*takes offence as he loves his xbox*. i'll have no xbox bashing. you can say what you want about graphics etc. but hey look at halo 2

Hehe, you gotta give consoles a hard time, halo 2 looks decent, but a lot of that is simply due to the tv interlacing, whichever works i suppose. I always thought consoles were best for beat em ups and car games, halo was ok on the xbox i guess, but i need my mouse and keyboard to get those twitch reflexes working. Ah crap i'm off topic, oh, well uh, Doom3 will rock, yeah, back on topic.

All I really want to say, is I don't really care who has better frame rates, or IQ really, just as long as I can play the game and enjoy the experence of it. :D

The funny part was that you pay to download something that's free.

Search on google for the file...lots of free/faster webhosts.

www.filemirrors.com is a great site, and coupled with a program like flashget, that allows downloads from multiplies sources, you can always and easily max out your internet while downloading files.

LOL you wait in line.......thats just WAY too much to pass up..

Btw, I coudn't figure out who you were talking about but I certainly don't pay, heck no, I'm too cheap lol, dang right I just wait in line.
And you want to know what's even better lol? I was dling at 1.4MB/s.

its a setting on the dl bar suicide, bits or bytes..you were getting half my speed.. get a grip guys

stick with kazaa then whatever I dont pay to dl videos, I pay mostly to get patches and demos the moment they come out, when everything else is swamped and overloaded,
Why should you even care?

I

Lol true, i had to temporarily abandon trusty firefox for it, but hey this is doom 3 we're talking about, of course it was worth it.

the best part of the release date is my Birthday is Aug 4 ...Mwhahahahahaha, Thanks John, so kind of you to time it for the perfect birthday gift!!!!

My birthday pwns joo!

I am not sure what is so impressive about these damage zones you are all talking about. From what I have seen most games have certain hit boxes on player models that cause more damage than others. If you talking about these shot in certain areas actually cause a change in physical movement of the player then yes Half Life 2 is completely capible of this.

You are taking my comment out of conext when u say that I said the physics engine is perfect in HL2. I said that they completely modified to make it perfect as in they are trying to make it perfect.

Then you compare it to a car hehe. Judging by your name, your car probably requires a lot of stickers to go fast. Also downforce is probably your best friend too, so an air runway sized spoiler in on your mad Typ3R yo, is needed. The backward E makes it twice as fast too;p
Where the hell did that come from. A Type-R Integra is faster because of its god damn better engine. Maybe stay on topic stereotypical ass.

I am done arguing over this crap. People will play both games people will have funt hats all that matter. Well just see who makes more sales and who goes on to have the longest dynasty.

I have used Firefox without a problem on fileplanet in the rare instances I use it. works fine, I just dont have the "fancy" download manager.

There are no Hit boxes in DooM 3, from my understanding its actually based on the characters location in game, not weather it hits a box around them. This is per poly, not hit box.

OK So its more exact now? But same deal?

Damage zones aren't really something new. But being able to shot the leg off of a demon, and have it limp after you, now that would be cool, and thats what I was getting from his statement. Also from previous posts, all the footage showing HL2 do this was scripted, and wasn't able to be done "yet" in game, real time. I am not saying it can't be done in game, just that it wasn't done yet.

All I said was that I think. There really is not much of a way to proove what game is more anticipated. I probably feel this way because I have played CS for 3 years so I am always surrounded by people who are HL enthusiasts. I also think that D3 will pass by much faster since it does not have the type of multiplayer that has made HL so popular. I really think that D3 will be a single player game that passes by like Far Cry. However, games like BF: Vietnam and 1942 tend to stick around for a long time. How long they last also doesnt tell us which is more anticipated. I guess all I can show for proof is that Valve has sold over 10 million copies of Half-Life worldwide and all those people are waiting for part 2.

Right, because no multiplayer mod for an id game has never been popular. Remember Quake1? That game was mainly singleplayer and only included 6 (iirc) DM maps. What did we get from that? Most noteably, QW and TF... which spawned TFC for HL which is/was immensely popular. What about Quake2? A singleplayer game that didn't even ship with DM maps.... no that game never had good MP or any good mods for it.

In fact, HL's MP was rather dry and basic. It was only made as popular as it is today by other peoples work: TF and CS.

Good mods and solid MP in a new id game? Nooo.. nevar!

Yep I agree. That is what they were talking about with the HL2 ES vid where the zombies get their legs chopped off. They fall to the ground and crawl with their hands.

umm, quake 2 came with DM maps dude, remeber frag pipe, etc? that doesn't really change the whole point of your post though.

Also, don't forget some things Carmack has said about the multiplayer secition of DooM 3's engine, its currently very bandwidth limited, in that when you get to about ~8 players, it will start to lag even on a LAN. Although, I don't know the specifics they tested it on, weather it be 100baseTX or 1000baseT, copper or fiber (not likely fiber), etc. I am sure you can do some work with it, and get it to handle more players, but I don't know exactly how D3 does MP, such as protocol, etc.

Exactly. It made Valve realize how much the community drove the sales. That is why they have told us over and over again that HL2 is extremely more moddable than HL1 and easier too.

he has a point, Doom's multiplayer seems sketchy, 4 people? 8 i think they said they had running at one point.

id has stated in an interview that the engine is capable of more than 4 players (like you said, they had 8), but I don't remember where they said they had a maximum of 8, either. I just remember in a GameSpy interview they said that the engine is capable of more and that modders (perhaps mappers too?) will be able to utilize it. On another note, it was also said that the netcode has been moved to traditional client-server TCP/IP, which is good :)

And Doom3 isn't as moddable? I realize that's not what you said, but it's somewhat implied by your overall view of the potential of Doom3's MP. We all know id is great at providing the community with the tools needed to make mods, most noteably that Doom3 will ship with the very tools that id used to make maps. I don't think it comes with an SDK, though. If not, we know id'll make it available anyways.

I know they said it went Client-server style, but don't know if they said it would use TCP. Alot of games have used UDP. I am guessing your just talking about the general TCP/IP suite, not saying its using TCP. Also, I don't think they mentioned the cap for how many clients it can handle, only that 8 starts to get lagged.

I think so.

Yea, I thought all modern games used TCP/IP in one form or another? Honestly, I don't know much about the differences between it and UDP

Type R, I'm not sure what you're referring to, but i think it might be the per poly hit detection, so that's what i'll deal with. Basically, so far, all shooters have had hit detection boxes around player, for damage detection, such as headshots, you simply differentiate between the box around the head model and the rest of the body, and assign a damage value. No matter how sall the boxes though, it has always been possible to actually hit someone by shooting near them, which means the bullet trajectory might have missed the character model altogether, but it intersected with the bounding box and thus registered a hit.
The thing with Doom 3 is, It handles hit detection on a per polygon basis, which means, it's way harder to hit the things, you can't jsut shoot reasonably near them, but you actually have to hit the model. Now I know you're probably thinking, pff, big deal, it won't make that much of a difference, but the fact is, when the developpers themselves were testing it out, they spent quite a while trying to figure out why they weren't hitting each other, they wondered if maybe they had assigned too much health to the characters, or maybe the collision detection wasn't working, they found out though, that they were simply missing the other players.
Now let that sink in, the devs who have been probably been playing fps's all their lives suddenly took a huge drop in hit success, it does make a pretty big difference. For example when I tried the leaked version, (wasn't even really an alpha the version n° was 0.002 lol). I tried it. You could shoot between the toes and fingers of the monsters, I swear i shotgunned an imp then tested it, you could machine gun the space between the fingers, and hit the floor, same with the toes, or under the arms and legs, it really works and makes a huge difference.

Dang, happened again by the time I reply what i'm replying to is ten posts back heh.
