HTC Touch Pro

Actually, i hope in official upgradability to WM6.5 of HTC Touch HD i own, but if i will be forced to use some ROM from xda-dev i will not cry :p.

And yes, 480x800 vs smaller resolutions is a big enough difference, not talking about the relatively big design change. My coworker have iPhone, he was jealous when he seen how readable are the web sites even without zoom compared to his iPhone 320x480 resolution :D.

So I have a GSM Touch Pro (Fuze) and I'm running a cooked ROM from XDA. It's a few months old and I'm wondering what others are running and finding to be good.

Main concerns for me are battery life, speed and non-leaky memory (my current ROM will bloat to 60% after a day and half of opening and closing programs/texting/email).

Thanks for your suggestions.

Wow, I have never seen it hit 60% and I am still on the stock ATT rom.

I will do some on the phone emails in a week, (usually receive vs sending). Also some web based email, some web browsing. Lots of RSS and a little bit of video watching. A good amount of texting and other basic use.

My battery needs juice every few days and I soft reset it usually once or twice a month. I keep my task's clear and closed when I dont need them and will once in a while check task manager for any left open programs.

Well shoot. Thanks for the feedback.

I definitely think there is a memory leak then. I'm not sure if it's a certain app or just my cooked ROM in general. Hopefully someone will have some good advice before the weekend, if not I'll just backup and start trying new ROMs out.

In my experience we tend to be so giddy about modifying our WinMo phones that we tend to make a hundred changes at once. This of course blows up regularly and can cause quirks, so I tend to try to make small changes one at a time. It's the same as in the windows world, you have a bunch of developers working on their own stuff and they could care less if it works with someone elses stuff, or at the very least they aren't communicating all the time. Every issue I've had with my phone I've traced it back to a particular app or tweak I've done, and I've either found a better/safer version or an alternative way of accomplishing what I was looking for. Flexibility is the strength of these phones, but it can also be a weakness. I'd start over with a custom ROM and make no changes for a couple days to be sure it's good out of the box, then start adding to it. If you've already done this, try a different custom ROM.

I just got one yesterday, I gave up my Mogul.

I think it's a nice phone but I think it's a bit girly looking, my mogul was a real man's phone, especially with the extended battery door and 3000mh battery.

The HTC touch looks a bit femine to me, it's definitely a better overall phone but I wish it was a bit bigger.

Heh, I have the Verizon one and I have to say I prefer it's "square jaw" look to the other rounded ones (aka feminine). :p

I updated my Touch Pro last night. I was running ROMeOS 1.40 and now I'm using ROMeOS 1.90.2.

Still very fast, everything I need in a ROM. I had to add in a few .cabs:
TF2D Config
Advanced Config
Answerkeys Disabler

etc. (all these are available here and there on XDA Developers).

Then I also upgraded my radio from the stock one (1.02.xx.xx) to 1.12.xx.xx

Haven't noticed anything different yet, but my GPS does work a bit faster now. We'll see if there's any improved call clarity. No one ever calls me. :(

Hmm, I'll give ROMeOS a go. I've been slacking about updating my ROM. Haven't been very productive phone wise since I posted earlier this month.

Seems like the Internet sharing is really buggy.

I know I had it working via USB tether within the first week of using it.

Now, a few weeks later, I keep getting Error 67, invalid username/password.

It sounds like the only/best fix is to call sprint support? Any other suggestions?

jebo: go get wmwifirouter. The older version is free. I am not sure what is in the new version, but I refuse to go to it if i can have a free version that works fine for me. No usb tethering needed. It simply acts as a Wifi router.

I'll check it out right now. Thanks for the recommendation.

wmwifirouter 0.91 (the last free version) works like a charm.

So well, in fact, that I'm considering buying the full version from the dev, just to throw him a bone for his good work.

Thanks again for the recommendation

Good man. The pay version does give perks like customizing the access point SSID, doing security, etc. I don't recall from last time I used the free one, but I think it just sets up an access point you can't control at all so anyone can join it, though I could be remembering wrong.

It appears you're right.

However, $30 for this app? I was expecting 1/2 that. Arg.

Can the touch pro play H.264 and Dvix without stuttering or dropping frames? I am a real import movie buff and I can't live without hulu and youtube.

Recently flashed my Touch Diamond from one of the older Juicy roms to GrooveRom 5 with WM 6.5 and it is awesome!

Battery life is really good now and the included apps and programs are perfect.

When I first got this phone back in September 08, the stock rom was terrible and the phone was sluggish. Over time, I've been flashing it with roms that keep getting better and I'm liking the phone more and more.

Garmin Mobile XT and less than 10 second GPS lock using HTC QuickGPS= heaven.

i want to flash my rom but dont know how. what is a good rom and how do i do it? is it hard?

i wouldnt mind my phone being a little faster and have a longer battery life.

The text size on SMS keeps changing on mine. Today it is rather large. It wasn't this way yesterday and I think it's gone thru a couple of different sizes befoe settling on current one.

I've tried going thru all the settings, but can't find where to change the text size. I'm pretty sure I did it before, but memory is failing :D

Are you sure you aren't accidentally running a finger around the circle near the buttons? That magnifies and reduces the text.

Just got this phone also so far so good. be looking to do some tweaks and upgrades as well.

Okay guys.

Go to PPCGeeks.com and look for SSK's ROMs they're simple and have like zero bugs.

It's really simple to flash. At first, you might be a little uncertain if you're going to mess something up or not, but it takes like 3 steps.

Here's a guide for the Touch Pro with video, all you have to do is follow it step by step, piece of cake! : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69854

Here's an excellent guide for the Diamond(has a lot of stuff you don't need) : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062

The first thing you need to do is backup your contacts, followed by unlocking your phone.

Hey, just joined the Touch Pro club. It's a massive upgrade from my old HTC S720, that's for sure.

I've been doing some poking around, trying to find a way to run speedtest.net on Opera 9.5 and I'm not having much luck. I've gone as far as installing flashlite 3.1 but speedtest.net is still telling me I must upgrade my flash version to 8 in order to use the site. I thought I understood that flashlite 3.1 broadcast the browser as having flash 9.

What am I missing here?

edit: Tried PIE, no go. Arrg.

Is anybody running pandora or another music app on their Touch Pro?

I had pandora.cab lying around from my Mogul, and I installed it. It works, but the interface is all screwed up, so about the only thing I can do is pick a station and listen to it as it goes.

im saying i don't trust the craftsmanship of an HTC phone. Ive found there hardware structure is faulty and unreliable. as they may be nice and all they are not phones for the long term budget buyer. most average people look to have a phone through a contract not 6 months into one and then get the phone replaced.

Yeah i dont think so, ive dropped my mogul on concrete 30 times, and i got this nervous thing where i open and close the keyboard all through the day...no problems at all. I just got a pro and its looks more fragile but i doubt it is.

my keyboard has been acting shady lately but now it doesnt work at all . had this phone for a little over 4 months now. thank goodness i have ins. but itll still cost me 50 bucks for a replacement.

i am on my third due to KB. walked into sprint store and they ordered me a new one. inconvenient, but saves me $50 a pop. i do like the phone though. My contract comes up in Feb next year. Looking at other options. Didn't have to pat for upgrade from Mogul so have funds to make change.

They are sending me a refurbished HTC Touch Pro as a replacement for my Touch Pro now. I don't mind because I like the phone. I didn't have to pay $50 either, which was nice. I have exactly 1 year left on my contract, but with he Spring Sero $30 plan I want to keep it longer than that, LOL!

Not wanting to start a vendor war here, but I've been seeing a lot of mentioned returns from Sprint people regarding the keyboard, not just here but on PPCGeeks. Should I be expecting issues with my Verizon one you think or is it just because there are possibly more Sprint users with the TP so it's more obvious? What exactly is the issue?

I have dropped my Touch Pro a few times, but my Mogul went through worse and the keyboard still worked. I never had a problem with it really besides the Mogul randomly kept restarting. I sent it back for that and received the Touch Pro in return. It could of been on my part for dropping the Touch Pro, but I think more would of broke other than just the keyboard had it been caused by that.

I tried out nfsfan's 6.5 rom and finally settled on the 6.1 Mighty rom.

Still can't find a good reference for getting speedtest.net to work on this phone though. Any help there would be great.

I've been running the NRG Phoenix 3.0 series of ROM's on xda. Blazing fast ROM's based on WinMo 6.5 - very stable too. They're a bit hoggish on battery life but I'm typically never too far from a charging method. I would consider myself a moderate to heavy user and never have had the phone run empty during a work day.

Just one note about NRG is that he's always making a new release based on the latest OS core - If you're a flashing whore it might be a bit much. Yes, I'm a flashing whore. I've settled on his June 5th release and have been very happy with it.

I've never tried a ROMeOS ROM on the Raphael on account he's taken his ROMs and put them on a website that's only available to contributing members. I've heard good things tho, might have to check one out in a future date.

Great phone - Can't wait for the Touch Pro 2!
