HP ZR24w

Yes man you're right, I just want to share knowledge on the subject. Whether this slight difference in color is common and "acceptable" in this model. I don't know. That's why I ask.

In any regards, welcome to the forums. :D

I decide to replace my monitor and now everything is ok:) No tint problems, normal heat at the top.
Nice service from HP :)

Yeah, I was about to go for 3x ZR24Ws but the U2412M came out just in time and changed my mind since you can get them for $320 a piece (before tax) by talking to a rep through Dell Small Business... and they include a 3 year warranty.

Just got my ZR24W, and liking it so far.

Everything is perfect except for the left being just a little bit darker than the right (might even be the lighting in my room), going to if see it gets better with break-in before considering an exchange.

Ok guess I am really unlucky: the monitor's dark gradient (from left to right) is really beginning to bother me. Should I try replacements with HP or just return it?

Having tried a total of 6 monitors so far, I am about to give up and go back to my 2333 HD as my primary and only display till something better comes along.:(

Yes, you should go for a replacement. For sure.
I had the same problem but also tint problems and very hot at the top. My new monitor is perfect although I didn't calibrated yet :)

There's also the new U2412M from Dell. Check it out if you go for returning the monitor.

Got the new one, same thing except the light side is on the left...this is going back

I think I'll just return the monitor : HP support confirmed unofficially that this is a 'known' issue and the chances of this unevenness occurring in a new replacement would be the same.

Have to say I'm quite disappointed: 8 screens and no go (5 2333Ts, 1 ML249H and 2 ZR24W's): I want to try the U2412H but do not want to deal with the back light leakage issues a lot of people have been having.

My trusted, old 2333 HD will have to do for some time.

Update: after tweaking the settings, uneveness seems to be a bit less...only noticeable when you look for it, it is there but not too distracting...wondering if I should just keep it now.

Wow you actually went through 8 screens.

I don't see any point in getting the U2412 then. It has a very similar screen to the ZR24 and you would likely find just as much wrong with it.

So surprise, surprise, the screen became totally uniform overnight but I found one dead pixel and one dead subpixel (or may be an 'impurity') on the top.

Turns out that with HP's next day service they actually send refurbs and when this monitor was reset , the tech that replaced the screen probably put in too much pressure on the left side causing it to warp slightly and cause the issue with the uniformity and left overnight, the panel returned to its normal position.

HP support is saying they will arrange for an advanced replacement for me which may take more time but will ensure a brand new monitor: anyone ever had experience with this?

I am not quite ready to give up on this yet: but I so wish there were no pixel issues on this one, the screen has turned out great now.

You 'are really unlucky my friend. But I'm glad you don't give up.
HP's service was really good and helpful with my situatiom so nice to hear that they will arrange an advanced replacement.
Hope this will be your last replacement :)

Ok got two more replacements - one from overstock and one from HP, the overstock one has some 'minor' impurities on one side and somewhat of the color issue I noticed earlier, the HP one has a 3 mm dust/speck stuck on the top left!! WTH!!

I guess it's time to give up finally.

hey undertaker, did you officially give up? what did HP do? also where did you purchase from?

I'll be joining the club soon...my ZR24W should be here later today....now, I haven't read any of this thread yet...I'm just joining the club....are there any obvious things I should be looking for?

Also, how does HP handle RMAs? Do they handle it similar to Dell? Advance exchange overnight? Or do they send out inspectors?

i was part of the macmall deal...i just got my ZR24W

damnit i have a bad pixel....I tested it with dead pixel buddy, and its right there...everything else looks good though, no back light problems or noticeable weird color tints

what would you guys suggest? i ordered mine from macmall

I would suggest you decide if you can handle a dead pixel. I cant speak for you, but I wont keep something that isn't up to MY standards, one dead pixel isn't for me.

While I agree with you.

Would you go through 8-10 exchanges like some people are doing here for 1 dead pixel?

I don't know about you but I have better things do to with my time.

Got mine from MacMall today, got the $250 deal on the 6th. Just as good as the one I bought last year, no dead pixels or other abnormalities. For the stand, try pressing down slightly on the top of the monitor when you press the button, then pull up.

would i contact HP or MacMall? does anybody know what their policy is?

Nope, they would get 1 shot to get me one without any dead pixels, then I would return it and go with someone else.

I am not sure who you go through. Others that have done exchanges could better answer you. I do know that people have contacted HP and they have sent someone to them to take care of it.

I have an idea. MacMall does have retail stores. If you have one near you maybe you can take yours and get it exchanged, even test the one they swap out to make sure its ok. Just a thought.

just got my monitor. The thing is beautiful and i have little to no blacklight bleed and no dead pixels :)

I know this might be a long shot, as this thread is pretty much dead...but for those who are still poking around, and have dealt with HP warranty before, please advise

I purchased my ZR24w from Macmall. I have noticed a bad pixel on the lower right corner. Everything else looks good though. No tint issues or backlight. But I would definitely like to get the pixel issue fixed. Who should I contact, and do you think I will get approved? I've heard HP gives you hassle for just one pixel, and other stories, etc etc....please chime in if you can...thanks! :)

nope i never tried hp warranty. I was a dell kind of guy for their warranty at first, but the 2012m model is a gimped version of what they normally sell thats why i jumped ship on the zr24w.

Hmm, did you mean the U2412M? I saw a few people comparing it to the ZR24w on the Dell thread and it seemed like they thought they were mostly on par. I
I'm actually trying to decide between the two, gonna be buying two of either.

Problem is, Dell's site gives me a $320 price quote on the screens (Dell Puerto Rico) but then wants to charge me taxes on both displays before the discount ($50+), and on top of that they want $110 to ship both! I'm gonna need to talk to a rep to see if that's right but the site quotes an $800 total all thru checkout...

Whereas J&R recently dropped the ZR24w to $350 and they only charge me like $60 to ship both, plus I got a discount code that brings the total down to $750. It's not a big difference in the grand scheme, but hey, $50 is $50... That'll buy me Dues Ex HR. :p
