I never saw the above post but I did end up with a 64 GB CL30 kit as it was available locally plus it was at a good price ($218). It also looks grand af with the RGB!!! Plus I can run it at CL28 easy. Some shots below.

I never thought I'd ever care for RGB on my RAM, but when I built my system I went with the Corsair Dominator's, and it turns out, it really complements the build and theme of the entire PC.

I could’ve gotten dominator titaniums with exact same chips for 327$. I think pocketing the 109$ was a smarter move lol.

Indeed. When I built my PC in April the options at my local MC were limited on the higher capacity packs, no regrets tho... at least being Corsair it uses the same software as all my fans, so ez pz to create themes.

TBF, I wanted a 64GB pack but MC was out the day I built my system, so 96GB (2x48) it was! On the plus side, when I am working, I can run quite a few VMs now :)

I was the same for many years, then I actually got some and along with the GPU it works really nicely.

think of all the things we would just have not understood. GPU, SSDs, wireless network, LCD/LED monitors, multi-core CPUs...and so on.

out of all of those things i think the idea of multi-core CPU and SSDs i would never have seen coming.

Seeing a 42” OLED monitor playing Cyberpunk 2077 with my current setup… fairly certain my 15 year old self would have jizzed his pants. :D
 
4x16 A-Die in my rig, 4x8 B-Die in my sons rig, and 2x16 B-Die in my other sons rig. I have another 32GB A-Die for an ITX Intel build, and then another 32GB A-Die for whatever. I also have 16GB of ADATA DDR4 shit sticks, they don't work with my Asus boards lol. And a bunch of high end DDR3, but those are for a buddy of mine in the states, just gotta send them to him but I have an Amazon addiction I think.

Back then I would probably have been playing quake 2 on a 16" CRT thinking 1024x768 was high resolution. Even if it was for the time!
 
ugh, I think I have been in the space for a while, I remember when I first started learning about PCs, 8GB was like "a good machine" and 16gb was like "do you really need it?" Then, it became, 16gb standard, 32gb is way overkill. Now we are nearing toward "why don't you just go for 32 gigs, man?" Oh how things change.

Now I feel really old because I remember going to buy a stick of 64MB thinking I was future proofing... :ROFLMAO:

I feel like the OS using most of your RAM to pre-load things is what really changed. Even a huge modern game only uses something like 8GB of RAM. Windows will just use the other 24GB for... Whatever nonsense it's doing.

Nah, I'd say most games are edging towards 12 to even 16gb, albeit, the ladder is only for a few exceptions
 
Back in 1993 I had 18MB of Ram in my Amiga 3000 and when I mentioned how much ram I had to PC people, they said I was lying since most PC's had 4-8MB of ram and it was expensive.
 
My last couple of builds have had more than I needed. Sure beats not having enough.. but mostly I am just in it for the interleaving.
 
My first computer had 640k. The massaging I did with the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to get stuff to load in a certain order so I had 600k free to play games was certainly a time sink. My next computer I bought 4MB dimms for that were gold plated and 4 of those cost me over $200 at the time. Thought it was worth it to play even better games...nice little 386. Thought for a while about getting the 387 co-processor for it but never did. Then looked at those "overdrive" drop in processor upgrades but never did that either. Wound up using that 386 until Pentium came out and built myself a Cyrix based computer with 16MB of RAM at first. Still like building my PC's.

first time I have been over 32G is today!

EDIT: same chips as the doms ... ? 64g kits same timing as doms... doms are prettier fo sho.

I go with 1/2 of supported max memory for the board whenever I do a build, helps with using them over time especially as they become 'extra computers' when I make a new build, and the old one becomes living room gaming PC, or virtual machine server, etc.

64GB now in main computer.

My first Mac was a barely used SE my parents bought me from an estate sale for $500. It had 4MB memory and a 20GB hard drive. I loved that little computer.

I really need to update all my forum accounts with my setup, but it really just isn't finalized yet.

My basic rule is, unless the ram is soldered, 64GB. I can plan how to use 64GB. BC-250? Put 64GB on it. Nintendo switch? 64GB! IDGAF about WHAT bus, just give me my 8x8x8 cube of memory.

I got a Mac Pro 3,1 once and it came with 64. I thought I was cool if I had matching dimms in my laptop, but a cube? FUCK YEA GIMME

The A3000 is a rather uncommon pick as far as Amigas go, being one of the pricey workstation models. Maxing it out with RAM, especially that weird SIPP kind and the sort that can do 68030 burst mode transfers, can't have been easy back then, and it sure isn't easy now.

Were you doing Video Toaster/LightWave 3D stuff with it at the time that warranted having that much RAM? Maybe a bit of Mac emulation on the side? (I'm guessing 2 MB Chip RAM/16 MB Fast RAM to get the 18 MB total.)

I bet you liked explaining to those PC people that Amigas aren't limited to 640 KB of conventional memory, either. 68k address space was so much more elegant than x86 back then.
