are you people made of money?
Look how much some people spend on cars and boats, and being a hardware enthusiast seems like a cheap hobby.
My ultimate goal is to have a hobby in hardware, cars, and boats all at the same time.
I don't ever see myself owning more than two desktops though. One for high end everything, and the other as some type of efficient media center.
There are a lot more expensive hobbies than computers. Look how much some people spend on cars and boats, and being a hardware enthusiast seems like a cheap hobby. Look at how much some people spend on upgrading sports equipment with dubious benefits. At least when I upgrade my PC the differences are appreciable and easily measured.
Also think about how much money some people spend on fashion. Expensive clothes that are only worn a few times before they are out of fashion.
Then consider the money to time ratio. People spend lots on time on their computers, so when you consider the dollar value that way, it's an entertainment bargain. And if your folding may even be beneficial to society.

and lastly, my lowly Dell Inspiron Lappy with a 1gb RAM, dual core Intel and Radeon 1300 graphics. It will play CSS fairly decent, but really struggles with anything modern. The other machines...they can handle anything at appropriate settings, so I would consider them all capable "gamers".
BTW, as for other hobbies....I got about 12k sittin here behind me.. 2008 Kawasaki KFX450 Race Quad, and a little CRF150R motocycle I kinda use like a pitbike. ATVs and bikes can get EXPENSIVE if ya keep modding and buying stuff for them. PCs are CHEAP in comparison. My father is into old Hot Rods. I would be too, but they cost too much. There's a 100k in the adjoining garage and he just sold one other car for $23k. I think I'll stay with the PCs. LOL.
My other TOYS.
Nah, cars take too much time and money. Had a few "worthy" cars over the years. 1965 GTO Convertible, 1973 TransAM, 1948 Ford Convertible. I see how the cars took over my Father's life. Not goin down that path. BTW, I can cram my ATVs, bikes AND 3 or 4 PCs in my small 16'x32' garage/shop. Try stuffin 3 cars and a project in anything less than 40x60, lol. Oh yeah, tools...what ya need for a PC? phillips screwdriver and some zipties! The ATVs...your run of the mill Craftsman 150pc metric tool set! Add the money needed to build muscle cars, street rods or classix. LOL. Crazy.you say you'll stick with PCs until you get a nice vehicle that worth messing with.....
I'm pretty much putting PCs on hold now that I have a car that is worth making better and have never been a car person, I am hooked already.
