HIS 5970 is here!!!

we are talking about 5970 here, not GTX 295.

and its hard for people to read when you spam the thread with your large pictures.

every thread you been through, you keeps posting GTX 295 or 5850.

if you think that is fine to do when every other person gets annoying by it, I suggest you to stop posting and just keep it to yourself. there is nothing personal here, just a advice for you before you get yourself a [H]ard-bash.

I think you are giving him too much attention just leave him alone, i doubt he is mature enough to understand that he is more of a nuisance than being a contributing member here. There are may be 1000s of people with better rigs and don't make a deal about it.

Just installed my HIS 5970 tonight.

Borderlands @ 1920x1080 8xAA everything juiced = smooth as butter
left4dead 2 = silky smooth
new unigine dx11 benchmark = 45fps everything juiced @ 1920x1080
Crysis Warhead @ 1920x1080, everything on Enthusiast w/ 4xAA = 45fps!!!!!! omgwtfbbq!

VERY happy with this purchase.

and this thing is quiet. Fan never went over 30%, temps are 55 idle, 81 load.

Nice to hear. Can't wait for mine :D

5970 rocks Aion. My room is really HOT though! This card puts off some serious heat! Yes now you can see EVERYBODY in a fortress raid! At 8xAA with Maxed settings and view distance! Check out these pics.

Are you in Legends guild vjcsmoke?
I was also, early in Frostwolf's first retail days. Played Diablo2 with the guild's founder James. :p

Yup I'm in Legends. Oh and the 5970 never got loud enough for me to notice which is really, really nice. I can't hear it over the little fan I have going next to me. I haven't OCed it yet, but to get this kind of performance stock without any tweaking yet is pretty darn awesome.

Oh and I can't wait for Diablo 3 to come out. I'm sure the 5970 will rock that game hard as well. =)

PS is there a setting to enable/disable crossfire in the CCC?
I just ran the Resident Evil 5 benchmark and the framerates are not what I"m expecting.
They are NOT better than the ones I got with a single 5870!

NM, I think it was just my settings. Got a rock solid 119 FPS on RE5 benchmark. =) Much better. Look at that flat FPS line. Beautiful! 8xAA and highest image quality settings of course.

That's not all that bad considering what I get with (2) 5870's in CF

nice card

So I take it you don't like my 295...:p

It's relevant to the thread any ways since my 295 is out performing the op's 5970 for some reason. If you don't like it don't read it.

You know damn well you pollute every thread with "hey look what I have". And no, I don't give a shit about your video card, I used two GTX280s in SLI for a year and the 5970 looks like a pretty nice step up. I don't want bullshit claims from someone that gets overly excited about their 5850 and makes a thread about flashing a bios to a 5870. I don't want to have to read even more bullshit from someone that made a thread about a bios for the 295 that could beat a 5970 (or whatever that horseshit was).

Your video card has no place in this forum section. Period.

Yeah could we keep it on topic with the 5970 please, my pre order arrives soon and I'd like to know if there's any major drawbacks before it arrives.

To fast?
smooth gaming?
Eyefinity?
Owns Nvidia?
Overclock to 1ghz using proper cooling?

Basically the only drawbacks are,
price, drivers.
The main drawback using crossfire/sli are profiles.
New games take some time until they are updated for the performance gain using 2 cores or two cards.

I got enough power from a overlocked 5850 to run eyefinity.
so, the 5970 will run just fine at stock.

Well I keep hearing a lot about bad drivers...but I also hear that its mostly due to the bad beta drivers.

It's just I'm going to be almighty pee'd off if I get this card after waiting several months for it, spending £450 then waiting 9 days for the pre order, only to find the drivers are crap.

Well we have 1yr of peace as he/she is leaving, though i'm sure someone else will step up to the plate yay!

Does it in Furmark? I've been following a couple threads where the fan always stays at 30%, even when the card is overheating.

Didn't run furmark. Just ran some games and unigine bench. Maybe i'll try tonight.

There is definitely something funky with the fan settings, because in the overdrive panel I hit manual fan, just to see what the different levels sound like, and when I hit apply on 30% it ramped up to 100%. Probably due to beta drivers i'm guessing.

Does eyefinity work since this is a crossfire card? Would seem stupid if they released it with no multiple monitor support. But then again it is ati...

Which driver are you using to run your HD5970? I just got my XFX and I loaded the 8.663.1_Beta5_Hemlock_VistaWin7_Nov11 driverset from AMD. My desktop froze about 2 to 5 mins after loading windows 7. I installed the drivers from the cd and so far its running fine.

I'm a little disappointed that with the drivers I have tested so far is that there is no fan control.

Which driver are you using to run your HD5970?

I installed those beta 5 drivers right from the get go and it seems to be fine, minus the fan control, but that seems to be missing from the drivers on the disc too it seems.

EDIT: Also, I didn't even uninstall my 9.10 drivers. Just ran the driver package and installed over top of my existing, worked fine on my Win7 64bit install.

Just ran Streetfighter IV benchmark at superwide dual screen just for the heck of it. Didn't even realize it could do that. 8xAA and same settings as before except for the rez. Here are the results. =)

My 295 vantage comparison. I was expecting you to get much higher scores.

vantagez.jpg

You have Physx enabled thats why your CPU score is so high. His is REAL cpu power.. look at the frame rates on the right.. he smokes your ass!

I would compare a GTX295 to a HD5870... not a 5970.

And vjcsmoke, I know you felt like a kid again opening that box and playing! I sure did when I got my cards, enjoy them dude and keep running benches! Oh, and OC it!

Is there any chance anyone with this card can do some overvolting with it? Specifically i'm looking to see what sort of headroom it has past the preset increased voltages that so far everyone has benchmarked with, i'd like to see mroe voltage through this badboy and see if anyone can break the 1Ghz GPU barrier.

Seems like a pointless task AMD cherry picking 5870 cores for good overclocking when we're only reaching 935Mhz Core max, especially when modded 5870s are exceeding 1Ghz.

If anyone finds a voltmod app by any of the board parnters which can surpass the 1.1625v/1.15v can you please let us know :)

I have own several 5870, all of them exceeding 1030+ core.

maybe its the heat problem that 5970 is limiting to, that may be the also reason why they clock it down so much.

No I dont think it has to do with heat, the reason they were downclocked was so they could lower the power requirement of the card to conform to the PCIe2.0 standards of 300W maximum.

The cooler is set to handle 400W of heat output which is way more than stock.

It's definately voltage limited, we just need to unlock the overvolt applications to allow any voltage.

Well I got mine in today as well, installed it along with a fresh copy of Windows 7. First results are... not great. I still have some updating to do, but I expected a bit more from this card even though I'm stepping down from Quad-SLI 295s. We'll see what another driver refresh and fully updating Win7 does for me.

Something isn't right. I can get 18000+ on my 5870 with the stock cooler. What drivers? Fresh format? Are you forcing aa/af settings in CCC?

Well got one of these bad boys.Waiting on another.Thought I do a few quick benches before format.
I reserve jugement till after format of computer.

First up quick and dirty overclock with MSI afterburner, just using core voltage, because Overvolt tool from Sapphire does not reconize the OC edition for which it was made.
Driver:8.663.1_Beta5_Hemlock_VistaWin7_Nov11
Clocks
Core 935
Memory 1100

To my surprise there were no crashes when clocks were set and I ran about 20 game benchmarks.

The cards are killer guys. Keep the pics/info coming.

I wish the 5870 would drop so I could pick up a second one. haha.

Played with my card a little this morning and I'm getting much better results, 162 avg. FPS in Batman, all game settings maxed @ 2560x1600.

I do have a couple questions though since it has been years since I've used an ATI card on my primary machine.

1. Is there any program along the lines of nHancer that has predefined profiles per game for a card like the 5970 or do I have to set AA and AF in the CCC each and every time I want to open a game?

2. How the hell are people screenshotting Batman? I tried it to no avail this morning but I remember it working just fine with my GTX 295s.

I believe ATI Tray Tools and RivaTuner will both do custom game profiles. Although with Batman, I thought nVidia put something in the game that borks AA for ATI cards? Maybe someone can clarify.
