Ghostbusters PC No Multiplayer

I installed on Vista 64-all updated without any issue using the *easy* installation. Haven't had a chance to play the game yet.

If you do that first without trying to put it in some sensible location (like D:\Games\ for example), it will work.

I never install games to my C:\ drive, and I have not had a problem with it before, so I automatically just put it where all of my other games are. Apparently, that is not allowed with Ghostbusters.

I recall hearing about it happening to a game or two a couple years back, but don't really remember which games exactly.

If it's on Steam now, can you enter the CD code from the retail game you bought and then download it through Steam? I know this works with some games (like World of Goo).

No. Ghostbusters is not a Steamworks game.

I have a few issues and I wanted to know if anyone experienced any, none or all..

1.voice of characters seems extremely low.
2. crashing(happened 2 times, 1 when i went down into the basement and 2 after i started fighting the fat guy..(I am heavily overclocked so if anyone isnt having the same troubles ill back off a little and see.)
3. a little breaky in the beginning of the game in the office'
4. mouse movement seems a little odd, unsmooth in menus
5, cant remap all of my mouse buttons
6. graphics dont seem awesome from what ive played... what settings are you playing at and what graphics card resolution etc?

from the atari forum they have a few work arounds for their stupid install bug.. so check that out if you are having that issue..

And now a word from Threewave:

http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/06...comment-on-lack-of-multiplayer-in-pc-ghostbu/

Multiplayer for the PC version of Ghostbusters is something that Threewave and Terminal Reality always wanted to do. However, our focus was on making the console version the best that they could be - an experience that allows multiple players to re-live and re-fight many of the themes from the movies. When we looked at the resources necessary to pull off multiplayer on the consoles and the PC, it became a question of what could we do and still be excellent in our execution. We couldn't do all versions with multiplayer simultaneously with the resources that we had available - there was simply too much to do. Something would have to suffer. Therefore, we kept our focus on making the console versions deliver on the promise of being an integral player on the Ghostbusters team.

I'm torn on this. My glass-half-full interpretation (mostly literal) is "Okay, they really didn't have the resources to implement multiplayer properly to their satisfaction on both the console and PC versions."

My glass-half-empty interpretation, however, is (guest Atari Suit yelling voice) "Consoles print money, dickless! You will focus on that or I will fire the whole goddamned lot of you!"

I hope you are not playing the game with the pc in your sig.

'Nuff said.

Really. What else do you need to know after you see this?

Not like it hasn't been painfully obvious anyways.

At least these guys are being honest about it upfront. There's all kinds of games we could all name where it's painfully obvious the consoles were given the high priority and the PC version an afterthought.

Even if the PC version had multiplayer, the console sales numbers would have dwarfed the PC sales number (have you looked at the minimum spec?!)

The backlash of missing multiplayer in the PC version has been pretty big, but it would have been 1000x bigger if multiplayer was missing from either the 360 or the PS3 version.

They obviously had some pressure on them to get this game out early. It's too bad really...but at least we don't have to pay as much for the gimped version of the game.

my ghostbusters game allocation $$ went towards Oblivion on steam instead lol

if they add multiplayer, ill buy it

they dont support people like us? i wont support people like them.

Bingo!

And this is before we even get into the one additonal thing they "gifted" PC folks with: Over the top, near Draconian DRM that punishes legit buyers! Yay! It's almost as bad as the DRM they put on that last Riddick game. I guess Atari just hates the PC or something.

I don't care if it's cheaper than the console version or not.

pretty much how i feel, ive never been much of a console guy since i had my original Nintendo, to me consoles are for young kinds who cant master a mouse/keyboard combo yet and need cheesy remotes and dumbed down games to accommodate a dozen available buttons lol

Pardon my French but this is a fucking crock of shit. No way can we return this to the store because its opened. Those of us who did buy it are pretty much fucked thanks to policies that stores have on opened merchandise. I see this as a defective product and we should be allowed to return it.

But it's digital media, so you might have made a copy. Bad criminal! Bad!

Solution? Don't pay for this crap :/

Anyone having problems with the install, follow this guys instructions and it will work. At least it did for me.

1.
* Use the custom install option to select the destination you would like to install Ghostbusters on your PC
* Once the installation is complete (this can take up to 40 minutes) re-run the installer. This time select the C: drive as the destination location. The install should only take a few seconds
* When the second install is complete, copy the 7 files created in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters" folder and paste them into the "Ghostbusters" folder you originally selected for your custom install
* You will then be able to run the game normally

Does it suck that their is no multiplayer? Yes. BUT, at least the game is HALF the price of the console version, so at least they were reasonable about the issue.

Atari didn't even make this game. Anyways buy it on steam if you dont want DRM hassle.

I'm wondering if anyone who bought a retail version has figured out how to revoke the install?

I'm reinstalling windows in the morning onto a new hard drive, and I don't want the current install to count against me in the limit.

Anyone figured it out yet?

This is some of the dumbest installation mismanaged coding I have seen in a while. They didn't even run it through a proper installation designer tool? Really not even the Microsoft Visual Studio one?

Sour note for that. I guess lacking multiplayer and not installing to other directories easily is making threewave a few more black eyes.

Why would install issues cause any negative press for Threewave? Threewave ONLY did the MP.

My 2C:
The physics is great. I am sold on CPU physics, hands down.

The game is terrible. The boss battles are needlessly difficult, compounded by terrible cameras. The graphics are second-rate at best, and the voices, though by the original actors, are terrible and poorly executed.

Nostalgia factor started high but wore off quickly.

AT BEST, I give it a C+.
