Ghostbusters PC No Multiplayer

Well that sucks. I might buy it... when it hits the bargain bin for $10 or less. I really want to play this game but with DRM and no multiplayer I really feel that it's a total rip off even at $30. Silly Atari.

Agreed. No sale.

I usually don't complain, and probably after I play the single player portion of the game I really wont care that much. The issue I have with this is that none of this was mentioned ANYWHERE. Who the f' lets hundreds of thousands preorder something without explaining that the online portion of the game was just ripped out..

There are a few reasons why I am not that mad, im just in shock.
1. the console games suck balls for fps and third person shooters. Im sorry but I think console games should be left to racing games and thats about it.. (which I can still play on my pc and it looks better)
2. the graphics on the ps3 compared to xbox 360 sucked balls from the reviews I have read. So right there it only leaves pc vs xbox 360.. ( I love eye candy in games like this )
3. Xbox 360 gamers have to pay for xbox live and their internet connection. haha. Plus they will have to pay for the DLC and if we get some good modders around the pc community its free.
4. Xbox 360 graphics cant handle what the pc can, in the reviews we have read I believe pc was going to be the one that would go all out on the graphics aspect of the game.
5. The price.. Damn who wants to pay almost 65 dollars for a game with a few little add on mini games. I mean seriously if anything I think xbox players get screwed. I would never buy console for that reason alone. Their games are always 60 dollars on release..

Unfortunately Pc companies lately have been jacking up the price and doing stupid garbage like valve does. ( yea we are going to include free dlc and updates to l4d)
SURPRISE L4D 2 dont you all want to pay another 50 dollars? LOL/

So honestly Im dissapointed but im not going to cancel my preorder. The single player portion of the game looks promising and if all else fails it was only 30 dollars and I received the 10 dollar emovie ticket.. so more like 20.

I still think we should definetly continue to let atari now how retarded they are and also. Everyone that downloads the game instead of purchases it will just show them how stupid they were by removing the best part of pc gaming.

LAME

It doesnt have to have multiplayer. Its sad that they included it in the other versions. When pc is by far the best to have it added to. I myself wouldnt be even the least bit upset if they said in the beginning that they werent including it and WHY!!!

From the sounds of the multiplayer though im not missing much. If it was side by side coop story mode with 4 people I would be pissed. Let sony and microsoft rip off their players for 60 bucks

Why does every game have to have multiplayer?

It doesn't.

But when the console versions do, and the PC version doesn't, I call foul.

The PC version of this is going to bomb, and a huge reason will be the lack of multiplayer.

I don't think it will bomb as per say no one will play it. I think what you mean is mainly either people will wait till it drops to like 10 dollars. Or I think people will just pirate copies. I already preordered mine and im a little excited. The fact that there is no online does make me feel uneasy in the stomach and it kind of sucks. All the times I looked up the game I saw nothing about that being removed or not being part. It seems weird to me.

The best part is when atari is sitting their scratching their heads saying "I dont understand what happend, the perception of the game from everyone was excitement and joy" " I mean come on, all we did was slash the price in half and then remove half of the game? WTFBBQ?"

It is, but at least they didn't have the gall to charge $50 or more for it. I'll give them that. Amazon, for example, sells it for $28. I don't really care about MP myself, so that would be ideal for me were it not for the overkill DRM they put on this thing. I won't touch it for that same as the PC version of the Riddick game.

They still haven't gotten a clue from the Riddick debacle so I doubt they will here, either.

I don't care much about multiplayer either, but I was looking forward to it with this game. I had been planning on going out today and grabbing it, but then the whole no-multiplayer thing made me reconsider. Would be nice to have some real confirmation on retail purchased copies. I'm sure they'll patch it in later or something even if it really isn't there, but I'm certainly not buying it till they do.

Is there really any doubt about this? The huge price difference alone should be the dead giveaway that, no, the PC version does not have a multiplayer component, at least at present.

...Should those complaints turn you of to Ghostbusters? Well, over on the PS3/360 review, I said "no," but that was in part because the game actually had a deep multuiplayer mode filled with challenges for you and your friends to tackle together while individually trying to grab as much cash as you could by trapping ghosts and destroying portals. Sadly, the six multiplayer matches, twenty levels of Ghostbuster ranks, and twelve maps are nowhere to be found in the PC version of this game.

That knocks some of the steam out of this $30 title. The actual story of Ghostbusters: The Video Game should take you about eight hours and the game doesn't support Achievements for your PC. So, the price is nice, but you lose a lot of what keeps me playing Ghostbusters on my PS3.

Confirmed.

I really didn't think there was any doubt left on this subject.

Ghostbusters is the kind of game that I could see PC gamers pirating out of spite.

I was excited about this game until they confirmed the lack of multiplayer. Now I'm not even going to touch it (despite owning a 360)

I just got it from Gamestop....but I can't get it installed on Windows 7.

Annoying. The only message it gives me is this (in the windows event viewer):

Ending a Windows Installer transaction: R:\setup\Ghostbusters (TM) The Video Game.msi. Client Process Id: 1568.

Trying a vista image...

Only a little doubt ;) More of a dying hope that this game I've been anticipating more than any other for the last 5 years wouldn't be a halfbaked POS. The price is the reason I didn't pre-order, too good to be true and all that jazz.:(

Two reasons I preordered it. It's ghostbusters, I don't care who you are playing with a proton pack and a ghost trap is just freaking awesome. And second I received the 10 dollar thing ( atleast I hope I will, wanted to take my wife to a movie tonight and that would cover her ticket, oh i mean my ticket, lol)

The missing multiplayer sucks and makes me want to play it today(her birthday so not a chance) to make sure the singleplayer is worth it enough to consider 30 dollars. Ill give the developers this though, thirty dollars for 8 hours of gameplay is pretty freaking decent. Damn halo 2 and 3 were 60 for 360 and gave you maybe 6.

Ill write a little review on it when I play it myself hopefully will clear up some of this.

I just want a statement from them explaining. This is not a normal practice and lets hope that it doesnt become one either.

Its bad enough when these dumb companies release a series from a game and don't include pc like when call of duty 3 was released I mean wtf.??

If I hadn't already done the code redeem thing only to find out that no theater around here accepts the E-movie cash thing, I'd give you my code.

yea, it was just an example, but I still think its stupid, its like them releasing lord of rings or harry potter on dvd and the last movie they say

"sorry blu-ray only" lol..

Thanks for the "i wouldve given it to you" but sorry that the theaters around you don't take it, I know of atleast 3 that accept it, I checked it out.

And I read some reviews on cod3 and it didnt look like anything special. To be honest never even played call of duty 1, by that time 2 was released and the graphics in 1 were so bad that I couldnt play it lol.

If a game is released with graphics that are on par with others around that time and I play it im usually fine, but going back to bad graphics is hard for me to do after all the great games out there.

In essence thats what atari basically did to us "sorry you are going to have to buy a xbox360 for the same graphics and multiplayer, or you can go buy a ps3 and get crap graphics but you can also buy ghostbusters on blu-ray" LOL

Eh, that sucks, you could let me try anyway? lol I should be getting it in my email today, HOPEFULLY before freaking 6 when I want to go see the movie after I make her dinner.. it will probably come at 8, after we are done watching it haha

I could email you the printable coupon I got, but it has my name on it. Not sure ifi t would work for you.

I doubt they will check ID at a movie theater, I don't think I look under 18 lol..

ill pm you my email address.. ill give it a try and let you know.

No joy on Vista either.

I exchanged it for a new copy at GameStop, and it's doing the same thing. Just gives this "error":

gberror.jpg

Looks like a lot of people are having this problem. Fucking brilliant.

you exchanged what for a new copy??? are you talking about the game isnt working????

or are you talking about your emovie thing? lol.. whats not working? its just an error.. I cant look at your link im at work with WEBSENSE.

So not only did they gimp the game and put invasive DRM in there, they didn't even beta test it? Fuck I'm glad I canceled that pre-order. Best of luck to those of you that have the game and I hope you all shoot off some angry e-mails to Atari and Terminal Reality. They deserve it.

The game isn't working. It wouldn't install on my Windows 7 machine, so I tried it on Vista. It still didn't work, so I took it back to the store and exchanged it for a new copy. I just tried it again, and it still didn't work, giving the same error.

The game will not install. I'm trying it again without my AV (Avast) running, but I don't have high hopes.

Highlights from the link

After attempting to install the game and waiting for about 15 minutes as files seem to install on my pc a box pops up and states that the installer was interrupted and that no changes have been made to my system.

I just bought the PC version and tried to install and same thing happen

I have the same exact issue, I tried copying the DVD over to my comp and installing from that. No joy. Any other thoughts, ideas?

I'm having the same problem, and I'm running on Windows XP SP3. I even turned off my firewall..still nothing.

ok same problem here. Called gamestop and they will not take the game back. So I'm out the 30 bucks i guess. Thanks atari. Tell you what, you get it on steam and give us a code to download a copy that works and I'll be happy. Till then fix it, and fire the person that is in charge of this mess. Hell you think you would have done something about it with the last game. Guess im asking to much for a game company to be honest with the customers. Who the bigger pirate here?

Tried safe mode. Could someone point me in the direction if the security feature causing this? Maybe there is a work-around somewhere.

i also tried it on another xp pro box, and a vista box.. same error message on all.

Gaah! I just got my game and it does the same thing. Looks like we got another Defective installer like Terminator Salvation Fiasco. Thanks alot Atari.

i dont think its that, it doesnt even get to that part, it doesnt finish the install, no .exe in the install dir, i hope this comes out on http://store.steampowered.com/ pretty damn fast, and the cd-key works with it.

Turned off my firewall, turned off Anti-Virus, I have no emulators running...nothing. To think, I only found out that the game doesn't have a multiplayer after the failed install....I feel let down and ripped off.

same problem here, gets to the end of coping files, then starts removing backups and says installer was interrupted and not completed

UPDATE!!!!

from reading through those complaints about GHOSTBUSTERS NOT INSTALLING..

It seems that a lot of people were having problems. INSTALL it to the default location it asks for.. seems that worked for the few that tried that so far..

I havent gotten home to try it out.. SO I can't let you know if that works...

Man atari needs a back hand off a rooftop then smokered and then pounced down to an instakill death for this crap.

Tried it twice before, didn't work. Trying again.

Yeah, I tried the easy install. I am installing it on Windows 7, and I also tried it on Vista Ultimate x64. Didn't work either way.

I am really not interested in hacking the DVD to get this...game...to work. If that is required, it is fucking broken.

I just went through my registry and purged all ghostbusters entries (there were a couple dozen), and I'm trying it again with the easy mode installation.

Hmm i see this being the new Spore

hi ho hi ho off to torrent sites we go.

And you shouldnt have to, if they dont fix it, game stop needs to return the f'ing junk because it doesnt work.. you meet the requirements end of story..

I hate companies that dont HAVE ANY QUALITY CONTROL..

thats like terminator salvation(garbage anyway from what ive read)

lets hope this just doesnt destroy the whole excitement I have had for this game..

Kind of like when my friend installed the patch for dlc for left 4 dead.. i had like 3 hours to play, we messed with it for 3 hours and he couldnt get it to work..

he had to install it on a brand new hard drive to make it work...awesome.

OK, so this last installation attempt succeeded.

If the installation fails, you'll need to clear your registry of all Ghostbusters related tags and try it again.

If you haven't installed it yet, try the simple installation first. It will put it in C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters or C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters.

(This annoys the shit out of me. Perhaps it is an unintented problem with the installer, but it is still crap.)

If it fails, try clearing the registry of Ghostbusters tags and install again.

If it still doesn't work....well...http://www.atarisupport.com/

It's a damn joke that this game doesn't have multiplayer. I haven't really been into the game since hearing about, but it seemed like the perfect opportunity for a multiplayer co-op game. Let's see...big fanbase already, there's 4 characters on the team, the consoles have it, more PC's connected to the internet than anything else...but "F" it, we're not going to put it on the PC version. It makes absolutely no sense.

Egads... that'll keep me away from it; I don't install anything on C: except for Win...mainly because I hate reinstalling things after wiping win for a fresh instal but secondarily because there's no room left after Vista and all it's SP's.

This game is sounding like a huge bucket of fail on the PC right now. Sad, too, since I was really looking forward to it.

The game is alright. Nothing terribly special. Really would have benefited from co-op and other MP modes.

Pardon my French but this is a fucking crock of shit. No way can we return this to the store because its opened. Those of us who did buy it are pretty much fucked thanks to policies that stores have on opened merchandise. I see this as a defective product and we should be allowed to return it.
