Forza Horizon 6

Got it on PC Gamepass. It’s not bad but right now I’m happy I didn’t pay for it, though my opinion may change later.

Sometimes it's just luck of the draw with the AI opponents. I've had a couple races where they're whipping me over and over. Then on like try #8 all of them will pile up in the first corner and I leave town and never look back. Some of those delivery truck missions are nuts. I've had the thing pegged out and take every corner seemingly perfect only to miss 3 stars by like 10 seconds. I'm not even sure how doing better is even possible considering they issue your vehicle for those.

The food delivery missions where it gives you the unmodified delivery truck and so much fun. Pro tip on these is cut the corners, the AI follows the racing line and in tokyo thats not the fastest line around the corner. There are some where the route it gives you isnt the quickest as well.

They actually seem to be pretty bad on dirt, but any street race they just dominate. Also I am not sure how to win a drag race against AI, they destroy me every time.

They're definitely terrible on dirt, I can confirm this.

Like finish 10 seconds ahead of them on dirt with sloppy driving then the next road race takes 4 tries and me bashing several of them into a wall.

On the same difficulty.

Also I randomly won some R class monster in a wheel spin and it's ridiculous. It clocks like 250mph when it's cooking and it still grips like crazy at that speed - like too good. It's squirrelly as hell because it apparently turns on a dime while absolutely rocketing down the highway.

A gnat flaps its wings in another zip code and the disturbance to the joystick is enough to suddenly point me 60 degrees in another direction.

I was just doing laps around the map on the highway with it for a while.

There are a ton of threads on Reddit about the cheating AI, I guess PG addressed it and said they are working on it.

OK, turned off all the driving assist and now I'm having fun with this! The cars actually seem to handle like cars now. I also found that the game looks much better with the raytraced global illumination off. It really softens the image and the lighting, and the game loses so much of its visual punch when its turned on I found. I also found that the lighting is much better when running HDR. All the auto exposure issues that have bugged me in the earlier Horizon games seem addressed with HDR now. No more super dark car cockpits!

Yeah I have all the driving assists off and manual, gives you way more control over the vehicle. I feel like drift challenges would be nigh impossible with automatic transmission.

Also, lol:

Jesus Christ! The character designs in this are some of the worst I've ever seen in a video game. Every single person I've seen looks like a mildly retarded androgynous frog with a meth addiction.

The characters are absolutely terrible

So naturally I just leaned into it and embraced living my best one legged hearing aid booty shorts wearing plum colored dog shit pile haircut life

The deadliest twink in all of Japan known for sending other racers off bridges and cliffs

Is there a way to get rid of this frame gen artifact? There's an outline that appears around the car when it's in motion.

I seen this as well. Already got bored with it like the previous two games. Uninstalled today.

I have 52.8 hours in the game and have been fast travelling everywhere and going from race to race to race grinding like a brake pad and im nowhere near 100%. Hell it probably took me 35 hours at least to clear the main story.

33 hours in, about 85% complete. Completed Horizon in about 28 hours. Just checking off the rest of the boxes now. Regardless, the time shown to completion on Xbox seems way too short from what it actually is. I will add, Convoy early on with friends helped immensely. But that's probably only been about 8 hours of my gameplay.

As fun as this game is, I have to rant a bit. The AI is fucking dogshit. Either they are unstoppable or complete garbage. I'm playing on Expert and it doesn't seem to make much a difference other than if that one guy will rubber-band back to being right on your ass the entire race. In corners they turn into an immovable brick wall and will straight-up ram you off the road. Thank god for rewind or I would have thrown my controller into the wall.

Also, I completed all roads and there's nothing in terms of an in-game reward? Not even a fucking Steam achievement? What the fuck. Arguably one of the most time-consuming tasks in the game and you get jack shit.

Already there are rare cars being scalped...Auction House was shit back in FH4 and it's still shit now.

I guess ultimately the game isn't that long. Steam shows me at 26.4 hours and I've done all of the roads, all of the mascots, most of the races (gold band and whatnot). All that's left are the Legend challenges, bonus boards and the rest of the fiddly stuff like barn finds and annoying 3-stars in some places.

Oh, and how the fuck am I supposed to get Great Speed skills in online races when it will only ever put me in C-class races? The cars aren't even capable of those speeds. And that is one of the current Festival Playlist items. At least you don't have to get 100% to get the cars, but damn.

Still, I don't regret buying it but I don't really understand where people were claiming it was so much better than 4 and 5. Seems to have the same issues as those had/have. Japan is a nice setting, though.

I think my single biggest gripe with this game = the trees. They're apparently made of tissue and the only purpose they serve is to slightly obscure your view and to rack up points as you drive around like a lumberjack. You'd think they'd toss a couple thick trees in there to foil you from just driving straight through their forests, but they never do. As a result, any time a race doesn't have flags/fires you can pretty much just point your car straight at the finish and just hold down the gas. In the rare event that you hit a barrier of some sort, you can just rewind and adjust slightly.
The game is still the usual dumb but fun experience, but I feel like the world has been dumbed down to the point of ridiculousness.

Honestly why I like it, and I'm confused at people complaining about lack of realism in the driving(not you), just in general. It's not even sim-cade, its an arcade racer, low effort, low pressure(imo). Just having fun with the ridiculousness of it, and that it doesn't take itself seriously. I keep my sim-racing stuff to ACC/Evo/iRacing/etc. Didn't even bother using my sim-setup for this game. Sat back with a controller and having fun. I do think the Japan setting definitely kept me interested. Don't think I put in more than 10-15 hrs in any FH title previously, but want to 100% this one, which I never do in any game for most part.

Make sure you're in a higher tier car when you join and while you're waiting for the race to begin, hit a highway and do the speed skills.

Rain races are by FAR my least favorite. The AI is just absolute ridiculous on them.
The AI isn't affected by the weather currently.

Yes, everything above Highly Skilled is broken. It's as if they set a scaling multiplier and never tested it.

It's not. To me: completionist should include getting all achievements , which will take a while since one requires you to get all available points during a season.

See above about seasonal achievement.

Yeah, I was wondering if that would work, but I'm pretty sure it forces you to choose a car pretty quickly after you join.

And this is how you get Drivatars like this:

This is how it's meant to be played though right? :p

I've never raced seriously in Forza 5, just do whatever it takes to get ahead, and if the AI is blatantly going to rubberband, then killing them isn't optional, it's necessary.

Anyway, so far I've played one long opening session a few days ago and just not touched it since. It just doesn't feel like it's worth playing to completion, everything is the same. I'd probably be playing more if I hadn't played Forza 5 to 100%. This is just exactly more of the same.

They needed something new like WW2 motorbikes with side cars and mg42 mounted. If it's going to be arcade, go all out. Land mines, spike traps, fucking banana skins would make the races entertaining if the AI is going to be such slop.

You literally HAVE to play pinball with AI in corners, you have to, or else they are unbeatable most of the time.

I'm approaching the AI exactly the same way I did in the prior games. I'm not really seeing much difference. I've always plowed into AI racers in the corners going all the way back to the late 90's NFS games. To me the main difference is that there are almost no barriers anywhere. It doesn't affect most races (since they usually have gates you have to pass through), but any other time your bonuses are permanently skyrocketing and there is 0 concern about just plowing through anything.

So this doesn't work, it forces you to choose a car before you get into the session. Luckily I managed to join an A class with a car type I had a decent tune for, and got to run around the freeway a bit to complete the task. Really lame though that you can't choose the class of race you want, it's entirely random.

I did it with the AMG One yesterday to get that Seasonal point.

With the AI racer names, I see the same ones almost every time in 6. With the previous ones, they seemed to create new ones or even pluck names from other online players. That's probably why people specifically know Bowie Knife99.

The names are based on the difficulty level. I wonder if M. Rossi is still in there from FM1

It'll use your friends list names, and then start populating with the other "standard" names like bowie knife99.

People play Horizon games offline?
I have. I play online but dont really mingle with anyone. Point was the profiling and AI opponents doesnt change, Drivatar system just puts a name from your friends list over top of the AI drivers. Sometimes it doesnt fill the whole grid with drivatar names as well and youll still see the AI name.

Edit: Also forgot to mention. The AI is from FM8. So when you go into the race it loads the ai config based off your car. So like in GT7 and in FM8 you can go into the race with a limited tune and before you actually start the race change your tune and the AI doesnt update. This is something i used in every race in FM8 to get more credits easier.

Well the seasonal Togue challenge was fucking annoying. Either it immediately disconnects you because the other person left, or you leave because you realize you have no Mazdas in that vehicle class or something. Took me like 20+ tries, and the first time I completed one I didn't realize that you had to have a Mazda. Had a really good three races with some random dude though, last one was neck and neck and we each had one win. Absolute cinema.

Feels like Albert WCG and wab3s are the ones programmed to be the most aggressive on my game. Bowie's there, but I don't recall having specific bad experiences with them. I guess there are also the named NPC's who shuffle between lagging behind and warping past you at lightning speed, but they tend to automatically let up late in the race.
