Forza Horizon 6

Well the seasonal Togue challenge was fucking annoying. Either it immediately disconnects you because the other person left, or you leave because you realize you have no Mazdas in that vehicle class or something. Took me like 20+ tries, and the first time I completed one I didn't realize that you had to have a Mazda. Had a really good three races with some random dude though, last one was neck and neck and we each had one win. Absolute cinema.
You can see the restrictions by pressing right or left stick on the season menu.

I completed the rocket launch festival mission and now it's a full-on slog to unlock the last one. The map is now filled with drift areas and speed zones and whatnot, but they don't give you shit as far as points go.

I played an older forza horizon game and liked it, looks like this one is good.

I want to get a racing wheel, never had one before. It seems like it should be much more fun than KB/M or gamepad.

I looked at some setups and wanted to ask the [H] opinion.
The retailer I need to use has 4 options:

Thrustmaster T248X

Logitech G923 SE (which means G923 + their manual shifter accessory)

for similar prices (thrustmaster slightly higher but not by much).

T300 RS GT Edition is $108 more than the T248x. But I don't really want to keep increasing the budget (unless its like a RTX 5060 -> RTX 5080 type of jump or something)
Thrustmaster Ferrari T300 Racing Wheel Alcantara Edition
is also available but $170 more than the T248x.
The G29 / G920 aren't meaningfully cheaper than the G923 SE which seem superior.

I most likely will never try actual sim racing though, and I don't (at least for now) play many racing games.

What is your guys opinion on what I should get?

Do the actual races, they give you a lot more points. Doesn't take as long as it seems.

Any of those should be fine for what you want to do. I have a G920 and it works fine for these types of games. Though mostly I use a controller because for drifting it's way easier.

I literally ran out of new races to do getting to that point. No clue if you're supposed to repeat them or what, but I had 3 stars on every visible race on the map.
I ended up just equipping the fastest car I had (Pagani Huayra) and fast traveling from one jump, drift, speed zone to the next. Whatever stars I got on the first go = what I accepted. With that car, it was usually 2 stars without trying. It took a couple hours, but that did the trick.

At this point, I'm done with FH6. It was okay, but it's my least favorite among 3-6. 6 just never really felt compelling beyond something to do. Maybe I'm bored with the formula, but this one never had any "ah!" moments or anything I found particularly impressive.

So i got the G923 + shifter and the game.

The game runs really well. With a 5090 on 4k DLAA only lost me like 6 fps from 80 to like 74.

As for the wheel....
Wow im bad. I can't win any races on "average" difficulty with the rest of the settings on pretty easy.

I did change my settings after searching what they should be for this wheel, but it's still spinning out pretty damn fast even if im going pretty slow.

I did win some on "new racer" difficulty though. It's fun, but frustrating.

I don't think i'll get much better even with more practice. Ive never had a wheel go crazy like this in a real car. Some cars handle way better...

edit:

got frustrated, downloaded DS4Windows and easily completed #1 a race I did like 30 rewinds and didnt even complete w/ the wheel.

its kinda lame with the gamepad, but the game is almost unplayable with the wheel. =/

Is your steering setting set to simulation?

As someone deep into sim-racing, I only use a controller for FH6. Just too arcadey for me to tinker with and only hear about constant tweaking needed to get it feeling acceptable.

No, Standard.
breaking is ABS.
Launch control, stability, traction, ON.
shifting automatic.
If you're spinning out a lot, go easy on the throttle and look up tunes for the cars you want to drive. Some of the "base" cars are kinda hard to drive depending.

Make sure to brake in a straight line and don't follow the racing line if you have it on. The braking suggestion is often way too late.

Seems like in Series 2 they thought too many people were skipping the online targets, as there is The Trial every week this time, and it's worth 10 points. With the other targets this week you can't get enough for the second car if you skip the online targets. I'm going for the achievement to get all points in a series this time.

Thank goodness there is no achievement for revealing all roads because I am at 99% in Tokyo City and I think it's a bug because I went over the whole thing and everything is white. I even tried using color fill in paint to see where a grey spot is and all the roads filled in with color when I clicked it.

And difficulty scaling is still broken. Was able to do The Trial this week, but just barely. It took me longer to make a good setup for my Peugeot 205 than it did to do it successfully, though. Finished third in 2 out of 3 rounds. Team lost the first round, but came back with 2500 points in round 2 and 1900 in round 3 to win.

I'm cool with something that I can do on my own but having to rely on other online players sucks. Also the Eliminator head to head, you have to win, not just complete one to get that one to pop.

My last road was one that ran under a bridge and it took me forever to find it.

Yeah, this one can take a bit if the people you're grouped with suck. The first time around we won the first race and lost the next two because we had some people give up. Second go we won both of the first and second round.

anyone know what comes with the gold band? i somehow have to earn another 30K H points to get it and the grind is really fucking annoying...

Has anyone actually done it yet? From what I can tell, you have to 100% the Horizon Festival to hit the 70K+ points to get it. I'm at 61k now and it's looking like getting Horizon Play to Level 25 and doing the Link Skills are probably the worst of it.

It unlocks Legend Island, the last piece of the map in the southeast that is blocked off by gates, and the long races like Goliath.

That isn't the gold wristband. That is after the gold wristband.

Legend Island is unlocked at 32,500 points when you get Gold Wristband Access. If you look up at your wristbands in your Collection Journal under Horizon Festival, you'll see Gold Wristband doesn't have a check next to it like all the other color wristbands do. To get the Gold Wristband you have to complete everything in the Horizon Festival Collection Journal.

I was a bit confused there, too. I have the gold wristband. It's absolutely still a grind, but nothing that crazy. I did it in an afternoon. Just drive around doing all the world events and try to get at least 1 star in everything.

As you move up through the wristbands, when you fully earn one, it gives you access to the next wristbands events and then you go on to earn that wristband. The Horizon Legend achievement appears to unlock when you get gold wristband access and not when you've fully unlocked the entire Horizon Festival Collection Journal.

ah ok maybe i do have it then. i thought the "tick marks" indicated you had it. mine looks like this:

and i do have the island.
looks like im about done then... and as someone else mentioned, my play time was way higher than that estimated 25hr completion or whatever it was, think im at 40something.

Depends on if you want that check mark next to the Gold Wristband and the one next to the Gold Stamp, that's the only thing I can find that actually happens and there doesn't appear to be an achievement for either one. But there's also the festival playlist to work on each week.

If that were true then why do all the wristband achievements unlock when you get "access?". The wristband is what gives you access to events specific to that wristband. It's like identifying your running group when attending a track day in real life.

Yeah, that's the way I've been looking at it. You get access to Legend Island when you complete enough stuff to get enough points to fully complete the purple wristband which gives you gold wristband access. Why else would they have the bar in the same color as the wristband you're "earning" to show completion. Or it could just be really poor UI, which I wouldn't put past them.

To show your progress in completing the events that wristband gave you access to. Gold unlocks the entire map, so completing the collection journal is now the goal. I don't know what the reward is, if anything, for completing the journal is. You get the gold stamp long before getting enough Horizon points for the gold wristband if you have been doing any exploration at all.

Right, you get gold stamp access, but you don't have the check mark next to it unless you complete the entire discover Japan collection journal. It's the exact same UI as the wristband.

I basically just check in every few days and do the dailys, knock out most of the weekly season in a day or two. Not much left to do other than inevitably-crappy wheelspins. Of course they nerfed any sort of CR farming into the ground, but the game still crashes on PC unless I un-focus the window during launch. 🙄

That, coupled with the latest season basically having a bunch of repeat cars, is sort of killing my enthusiasm for the game.

Again, you literally have the stamp, just like the wristband. It shows the cutscene where it stamps the cover of your journal with the gold stamp when you get it.

Right, you have gold stamp access but you haven't fully completed everything under that gold stamp access, which requires you to fill the bar to get the check mark. Terrible UI, if they're going to say you have the gold stamp and the gold wristband, don't have an entire bar the same color that you need to fill and then get a check mark to show you've completed everything for it.

Turned out you only need to get all points in one season/week for that achievement, so I unlocked it with the last daily on Wednesday (150 MPH in a Ferrari). Been going after the remaining races and God, do I hate cross country races. The Goliath is a real PITA this time with the class requirement. I liked it better in previous games with it being open. Also, whomever designed the drift zones in this one needs to be shot, for real. Did they even play test the 3-star goal on some of these?

the cross country and rally ones are my favs. but yeah the goliath was a bit of a pain. the only drift ones ive completed was by starting a drift and then just smashing shit to increase the points until it was enough. i cant drift consistently in this version, part of why i hate doing them...

I think the big issue with drift zones is that they must have changed the way scoring works. Speed doesn't really seem to factor in much, and the 3-star targets are quite high for the length of the zone, which leads you to have to do this sort of low-speed back and forth crab walk thing up the road, which looks and feels stupid but if you don't do it you can't really get enough points. I don't recall it being that way in FH4.

Setting clean rivals times on the Cross Country races can get pretty frustrating, I dropped down to A class races for some of them just because I was flipping the cars too many times on some of the bigger jumps.

I used the food delivery truck with a drift tune to do most of the drift zones, it's slow enough that you actually have time to rack up some points before you get to the end of the zone. I'm on the food delivery story now trying to max that out to unlock that achievement, it's going to take forever.

Rest of what I'm working on. Play to 100 will take forever. I don't think Historic Effort can unlock until July or August IIRC.

Even though they reduced the XP needed for Play level 100 it will still take forever. I played over an hour on Saturday and only got to level 8 apparently.

Yeah, I can't see just grinding that achievement. It's just going to take some time either through the seasonal festivals or just when I want to get a session in to pass some time.

Yeah...daunting. Trying to make myself run a few spec races a day just to gain 2-3 levels a day or so. I wish Rivals counted to some degree. Actually enjoy that part of it. Don't care for nonstop "wrecking is racing" online for this game.
