First Revolution screens

this is true, a few of my more hard-core gamer friends come over for game nights every now and again, and at first the thought of playing the mic games in mario party stunned them (thought it was stupid) but now they are the most sought after mini games.

I cant wait to try out Odama… looks interesting.

And im dieing to see how interactive they can make the next mario party on the rev..

Party games for teh win. :D

Here's a newsflash for you: when you play any video game, on any platform, you "look like an idiot".
Maybe you do. I look like a guy playing a video game.

The action of "playing video games" is/can/will not be associated with the notion of "being cool".
What the fuck does "being cool" have to do with this?

steviep said:
I had more fun with games like Donky Konga and Dance Dance/Karaoke Revolution (i'm not a singer or dancer) lately than I have with most of the FPS and RTS titles that have come out in the last 5 years...
Good for you. Those are 3 titles I have absolutely no interest in playing... ever.

steviep said:
...and it had everything to do with the level of interaction required with the game, and the fact that I could actually play those afformentioned titles with actual people that are sitting next to you. If anything, that actually makes you "cool", or at least "cooler" than you would be sitting by yourself like a lump, staring at a screen and clicking buttons.
I have fun playing Halo 2 with up to 15 other people at once. When's the last time you played Donkey Konga or DDR with that many? Guess that makes me cooler than you, huh?

I don't think concern over looking like an idiot is something you can outgrow. Who really wants to look like an idiot, either to other people or to themselves, at any time? Is this concept really so hard for you to grasp?

LMAO

"I look like a guy" -> Implication: I'm manly/cool.

Ah, hilarity.

If it's not about being "cool," why are so quick to say that you don't want to look like an idiot (the opposite of cool) and that you look like a "man" while playing games?

But whatever, if the Rev proves to be as fun as it looks, all of the insecure naysayers will come around.

I didn't realize there were only 2 states of being: cool and idiot.

I never claimed that I "look cool" while playing video games... I stated that I don't want to feel like an idiot while I am. How you and stevie pulled "being cool" and "being a man" out of your asses is beyond me.

It's not pulled out of our asses. You clearly have image issues that are defined by your level of insecurity. May I ask why you would never ever play games like Donky Konga? To be honest, you're missing out on a hell of a lot of fun... more fun than can be had with almost any FPS title that has come out in a long while.

I can play Donky Konga, DDR and Mario Party with my girlfriend. Can you play Halo or Quake with yours? Playing online is also quite different from having a 'couch game', and is in fact quite antisocial. Once again... you are PLAYING A VIDEO GAME. That's something that you obviously haven't grasped.

If people are concerned about looking like an idiot while playing games then they are just too concerned about what the buddies think and not having fun. Reminds me of high school/college.

I just read a story about this game being in B&W (SADNESS). That's really cool. I really hope Nintendo can get people to be more creative in game design, regardless if it's for their system or not.

Game design should be about risks.

The Revolution will be nice, regardless of HD support. If it can do 16x9, that's all I need, if not oh well. It will still be fun.

Gimme a break with the insecurity bit. It's tired, and it's untrue. I don't play these games because I don't want to. They don't interest me. Get it?

I don't see why not. There's plenty of girls who like FPSs.

Good grief. You think I'm talking about playing online? No, I'm talking about a bunch of guys getting together on a Saturday nite and playing Halo 2 on 3-4 TVs on XBoxes connected thru a network in the house. I've done this numerous times with these guys, and I bet it beats the fuck out of playing Donkey Konga with your girl.

I know full well what I'm doing. Do you not understand that I prefer to not feel like an idiot, no matter what activity I may be engaged in? Geezus.

i see your views and all.. but i mean.. why are you even bothering to post in this thread.. seriously?? you know it's always gonna turn out to be a crap fest..

I hear you RancidWAnnaRIot, but looking at something and saying it sucks is not the same as using it and saying it sucks.

It's not any fault on Gamz247 for not wanting to play those kinds of games and nothing anyone says in this thread can make him. But you can't just say it sucks w/out trying it out. So if you get the chance to give a new game a try, you should.

------------------------------------ EDIT------------------------------

Girlfriends come and go, so if you're not serious about a GF, why care what she does? I know I didn't care about the majority of my GF's playing games with me. As long as they came around when "daddy needed his medicine".

The wife on the other hand, I'd rather have her have an intrest in games than stop me from playing them all together.

Yup.

lol, gotta love nintendo topics, they always seem to get out of hand.

Game seems like it might have something going for it with the plot and whatnot. Swordfights should be awesome too (but only if they let you 2 hand the revmote, one handed swordfights just wouldnt be as fun, but I dont know if they can do 2 hand with the control scheme they are using).

I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but the Only bad thing about it is I can see it (and pretty much any FPS for the rev) sparking a little contorversy because now not only are you shooitng people in the head in the game, but you are actually aiming at their face and pulling the trigger (albeit the trigger on the controller, but we know the lobbyist wont see it that way).

True. Jack Thompson will have a field day, I'm sure.

This is probably the saddest argument that is routinely launched by Nintendo fans. I know it makes you feel better to have the delusion that people dislike Nintendo because of the image, but eventually you're going to wake up and realize it isn't true. Some people don't like what you like and require more than ridiculously oversimplified games to get enjoyment; stop giving us bullshit reasons that insenuate you're better than them. It's that kind of asinine elitist viewpoint that makes people tune you out anyways.

Good for you. Yes on Halo, no on Quake (Her computer isn't up to par to play Q4). I'd rather take her out anyways (She enjoys the motorcycle, and the ATV is fun for both of us as well).

I"m gonna have to agree with K600 on this one.. who care if you can play games with your GF or not... at least i don't care..shit.. video games are my domain.. i'll be damned if she tries to get in on it... lol... it's MY HOUSE!

Why do Nintendo lovers seem to above all others tout the strengths of their beloved system while failing to acknowledge the strengths of other systems. Sure the Rev seems to have some rather innovative ideas but its lack of HD isn't a good thing. Having more headroom is always a good thing. It doesn't have to be used but it can.

Microsoft, Nintendo and even Sony are all great in their own way. I hope the Nintendo does well and helps advance the industry as a whole however I'm not so naive to think that N is some great benevolent company. They're out to make a dime just like M$ and Sony.

Oh please, K600. Playing videogames with my girlfriend wasn't the entire point of my argument... rather, an addition to illustrate part of my point. This isn't about Nintendo's image either, that was a previous part of the thread. This is about playing a game that is clearly fun to the majority of the population (i.e. the Mario Party/Donky Konga types) INCLUDING those who don't normally play games. That's also one of the places Nintendo is aiming the Revolution at (non-gamers) as they are seeing a major successs of this market on the DS. Simply, this market is about 355498504385930485039485304 to the power of 65999 larger than that of us hardcore gamers. To top it all off, they generally have more disposable income, too.

What you fail to realize, Game247, is that these people also view you as "looking like an idiot" when you're sitting on your ass, staring at a screen like a zombie, and clicking buttons. What's normal to me and you, is not understood by them. That said, when my father saw me beating drums on Donky Konga, despite how "stupid" one may feel, you have a great amount of fun and they usually become interested in what you're doing. A group of nerds doing a LAN party with XBoxes on 4 separate televisions actually seems like fun to people like us... but how easy would it be to play Halo LAN games with those of us who aren't hardcore gamers? Do you even understand what makes games like Karaoke Revolution and Mario Party such a blast with others, despite their cartoony nature and simple gameplay mechanics?

As for the topic (Red Steel), Jack Thompson may not have as much of a problem. Ubisoft, I think, has decided for the Teen rating on this game, so that it may actually be sold in stores, and sell well (thanks GTA). As a result, despite violent actions in the game, blood will probably kept at Goldeneye-like levels. That, and you are rewarded for AVOIDING violence if at all possible.

These screenshots get me even more antsy to buy the Revolution every time I see them. I even made a desktop from that concept art ;)

When a console was about to come out, I'd get all giddy just to get it for that "next step" in graphics and whatnot. But then when the Revolution was announced I was like "Ok... so what are they gonna do?". Then with the controller announcement it was "I want a PS3/360, but I NEED a Revolution.".

I know the folks at the GameStop/EB in Oceanside are gonna get sick of me calling and asking when they are gonna take pre-orders :)

I've dealt with similar hardware when I worked on military sims. And it will be fun.

-------------------------------------

There are always skeptics when it comes to Nintendo. Even though every console they put out (Minus VirtuaBoy) had games that became instant classics. And the track record of putting out stellar games for a first party developer.

I've always liked the direction Nintedo goes with their consoles, and I've never had regrets for getting any of them. And knowing Nintendo, whatever screens they put out will be running on the hardware.

They release revisions of the GBA hardware on almost a yearly basis, and they sell tons. Who else can do something like that?

Getting "pwned" is something young people talk about a lot. Enjoy your generic FPS titles, I'll be "flailing" like an "idiot" and having more fun than I've had in a while, thanks.

I'm sorry you confuse trying to get people to actually come up with logical thoughts and answers to explain their nonsensical posts as attacks.

I'll try to be more polite when I'm asking why it is ok for N lovers to ravenously spit out things like, "gta clones and generic FPS shooters" while simultaneously singing the praises of "Mario 342: mario re-shingling roofs", or "Mario 446: mario cuts the lawn".

Here's the thing:

When it comes down to it, what have sony/ms really done for gaming? MS made online console gaming mainstream (which was inevitable and tried numerous times before). Big deal, it would have happened eventually.

What has Sony done? They made 3D viable. I will give them props for having the vision that Nintendo didn't (the tech. behind the PS was originally going to be a SNES add-on). However, they did so a little fanatically (they tried to prevent Konami from releasing Symphony of the Night on the PS because they only wanted the PS to be associated with 3D). But in the end, I think that the PS1 was good for the industry.

When you look at it from a hardware standpoint, the PS2/Xbox/Xbox 360 and probably the PS3 have just been upgrades, doing the same thing only prettier. If that's what you like, that's fine.

But Nintendo has pushed things with most of their consoles (although the SNES, the Gameboy line and the GC were just hardware upgrades). But they took risks with the Virtua Boy (ok so it sucked, but they tried), they made the analog/thumb stick a standard with the N64, and we really don't need to talk about the DS - we all know what it does. So even though not all of N's consoles have been really innovative, they've done a lot more innovating than the other hardware companies.

But what ultimately bothers me, I think, is that we have these discussions at all. I do believe that the PS2 and the Xbox were not very good for the industry in general, but I still own each of them, because I like the games. I definitely have more respect for Nintendo than I do MS and Sony, but ultimately I love games, and am always going to own a ton of different consoles. The difference is, I'll buy Nintendo hardware at launch, and other hardware a few years down the road.

Mario rehashes != new games/genres with Mario in them. Xerus', you're probably right. I would probably rather play a Mario title that involves house renovation than I would the latest rendition of *generic space marine shooter 6555*.

Cause the difference between Mario 342 and Mario 446 is that mario was re-shingling rooves, rather than mowing the lawn.

The difference between FPS 189819032 and FPS 123091720 is....wait...gimme a minute...I'll think of SOME difference between the two. The only reason why I bought COD2 and BF2 was because there werent that many servers/players playing COD and BF1942

Bingo.

Rehash = same mechanics, same settings

Nintendo franchises tend to have new mechanics with each iteration, hence they're not rehashes.

Yes, it clearly does ;)
But enough with the childish bickering. The line must be drawn HERE! :D

You still haven't named me Mario rehashes, and I did ask you for them. Don't quote Mario Party, either... because

A) It isn't made by Nintendo
B) It is the only example I can think of where a Mario title is rehashed, and labelled it as such already

But they introduced new things to the game (hardware, play mechanics).

Yes, sometimes. Not all the time, though. Many of the Mario Party titles are complete rehashes. Regardless, it's the only example that I can think of where Mario is in a game that's a complete rehash. I don't understand when people rag on Nintendo for "churning out rehashes" like every other game company does. Neither do I understand the "Mario washes Windows 466!" type comments, or the "enjoy your millionth rendition of Zelda and Metroid", because aside from a very few of examples, Nintendo isn't guilty of rehashing.

You still haven't named me Mario rehashes,

Umm the new Mario for the DS. Rehash of Mario 1 and 3.

As for non Mario games just off the top of my head Zelda 2. Metroid II.

Zelda II was in no way a rehash of Zelda 1. Have you even played either of those?

I never really played metroid II so I cannot comment on that.
