Real as far as I know 1, 2. In game I believe. I think it's the exclusive fps being developed by ubisoft.

EDIT: And a scan.

EDIT2:

Someone said:
Apparently, a Ubisoft representative has stated that these are "target renders"...not actual in-game screens at the moment, but what the team expects the finished product to look like. I believe Ubisoft did this once before with Splinter Cell, so it makes sense. Unfortunately, I have no credible source, as this information comes off another message board(Revolution Report), but it sounds realistic to me.

I just saw these on the Nsider forums.. and IF they are real... I RETRACT EVERYTHING I SAID BAD ABOUT NINTENDO.

Probably then if it's an exclusive. You can make out the caption on the second pic, it tells you to notice the tilted guys hand ( picture of the player in the corner) to the on screen action. Cool.

ummm... looks like something you would play at Gameworks or any other arcade.. meh

While I think the Rev will be 'cool'... I quite honestly still firmly believe I will get tired of holding my hands up to play a game, and the very very very very very sad fact that AT BEST these games will ONLY be running in 480p. :(

lots of ppl do not even own an HD set, i dont. so i personally dont care. :)

So it's going to be the perfect console to play Time Crisis. Cool. They'll just have to have a wireless pedal to step on for cover.

Updated the first post, and this won't play like those arcade games btw.

I've been borderline with the Rev, and these graphics IF REAL are impressive at this point. E3 will show more to us ...

But I simply cannot get over the fact there is not HD support :( Dissapointment to the extreme...

dude, all you have to do is move your hand a little to the side. its a lazy persons dream. pick up your mouse and move it in the air. now, while its still in the air, click a button.

you just mastered the revolution.

You can sit down and do it also, but it wouldn't look as clear in pictures if they were lounging on the couch

Cool indeed, 'gangsta' style. In full it says, "Notice how the angle of the in game gun reflects the angle of which you hold the controller". I don't think I'll bother trying to work out what it says in the caption on picture 1, maybe it'll be easier if you bump down your desktop resolution.

I noticed they seem to be using a more recent build of the controller, on the front the sensor is a circle, but in the older picture's it isn't.

I think Steveip is a little edgy since he didn't get to post this.

HD is way overrated.

"HD" simply denotes high resolutions... High resolutions are way overrated? You LIKE playing low res? You post here at the [H]?

I'm not directly attacking the Rev... from a business perspective, the lower res is due to the hardware which keeps the cost down and maybe smart. Yea, low res on SDTV is not the end of the world and you won't die a horrible death if you lack an HDTV.

But that blanket statement of yours is entirely asinine. "HD is way overrated"? C'mon, cut the drivel.

I can't wait to see a game movie for this.

Assuming these are the graphics to expect for this game, have ubisoft got final dev kits?

no one is supposed to have them until June, so I'd say no, they don't.

However, they are probably on the list of people who will get them first. This will likely be a high profile launch title

I should've clarified. HD *TV* is overrated. I bet this game will look fine on SD widescreen mode even on HD TVs, despite the fact that these screens are probably photoshop-touched up aside from Game Informer's claim that they are in-game (like PD0 screens before release).

It is clear, though, that this exclusive will certainly be a high profile launch title. Check out this translated text from the magazine:

Armed with the katana and a selection of firearms, you myst follow Myu to Japan and defeat Tokal, but first you must gain the skills necessary to confront him. According to --- the first third of the game will be more brutal by necessity. When you are first learning to use the Revolution controller, you will be less precise and --- (blurry and cuts off)

"a series of headshots, it is often more beneficial to take a non-lethal shot, such as shooting a gun out of an enemy's hands. I mnay situtations, there wil be a higher-ranking enemy who commands the others in the area. By defeating him and sparing his life, he will offer you his respect and help. The enemies he commands will surrender their guns and the boss may offer you a new weapon, a special path through the level, or other reward. Any time you spare an enemy, you will be rewarded. as it always takes more skill to spare a life than to take it. Freeze shot adds a lot of dpeth to the gunplay and is a natural fit for the Revolution controller, but isn't the only way that Red Steel adds spice to the combat. After all, why would you carry a sword through a game if you couldn't use it? Although the majority of Red Steel's gameplay will stress ranged combat, there will be times you need to get up close and personal. You can switch to the sword at any time, and if you can get close enougn to an enemy, you can use it for on-hit stealth kills. In other moments, you'll find yourself locked into intense one-on-one sword duels. Any time you take on an enemy with a sword of his own, you'll need to take yours out right away, or his blade will make short work of you. Swinging the Revolution controller in front of you, you will see the sword onscreen (cut off)"

To further explain why the Revolution will be ideal for FPS games, More handed us the latest version of the controller, allowing us to turn it over in our hands, fell its light weight and small size, and wave it around in thin air in a pantomime of gameplay. “The controller is a pointer,” he continued. “It can sense motion vertically, horizontally, depth, and also twisting. So you can do a lot of movements, and it feels the orientation and gravity. So with one hand, without any buttons, you can do tons of things and in a much more direct and natural way than pushing buttons.”

The shaky disorientation that came with the first moments quickly gave way to fast, accurate blasting (?) of targets on all corners of the screen. Thanks to the improved reaction time that the Revolution controller offers, the Red Steel team can create (?) gunfight scenarios that would be extraordinarily difficult with a standard controller. Most console FPS games limit their enemies to a horizontal plane (?) to ?? player frustration, but targets on a vertical plane are just as easy to hit with the Revolution controller – you can aim at a target as quickly as…

Gun play AND sword play? I certainly hope it's refined enough :)

Though, N-Sider seems to have more insight from the actual article:
It seems Game Informer's initial impressions of the title, control-wise, relate closely to a mouse and keyboard setup, as was expected. For those who expressed concerns regarding the ability to straffe in FPS games following the controller's unveiling at TGS 2005, the next bit of this article may be of interest to you:

Straffing around a target is incredibly easy, as keeping the controller pointed at an object while moving with the analog stick keeps you focused on your target.

The article goes on to list other areas of control unlike any other explored in the console world, to date. This includes throwing grenades using both over-hand and under-hand motions -- players simply act as if they're physically throwing a ball -- or pushing objects over by moving the controller forward (towards the screen).

Red Steel is being developed by Ubisoft Paris, who are known for such block-busters as Prince of Persia, Ghost Recon, Far Cry Instincts, and Splinter Cell. Game Informer plans to have this issue available through their online page, April 20th.

How are you going to under-arm grenade throws sitting down? I sure hope there's an alternative method.

the game sounds pretty sweet, and ubisoft has a lot of talented developers. even if those are concept screens, who's to say that that's not possible? remember when it became known that the first screens of GRAW were prerendered? the final thing ended up pretty damn close.

except try holding your arm out in front of you for 3 hours at a time. i doubt anybody here could hold it that long. i see myself turning the sensitivity way high, bracing the thing on my knee, and not moving my arm more than 2 inches in any direction.

i dunno man, monday night football, watching jack bauer beat the shit out of people, and other programs certainly look a whole lot nicer in high def.

I think anyone who's griping about having to move their wrist around to play, is a lazy lump and just needs to grab another damn bag of cheetos and wait for death to come.

Or you just turn up the sensitivity..

steviep you've obviously spent no time at AVS forum or even a few minutes in front of a HD tv .. or you're lying to back up your favorite console.

Saying that HD is overrated is rediculous. Watching the X3 demo on my 360 as a d/l from M$ is incredibly crisp and clear compared to the garbage coming from Dishnet. I refused to buy a console for the longest time simply because the graphics were horrible. Once the 360 came out with HD support required I jumped on the offer.

Wile im glad you finaly got a "console" just lettin ya know you missed some of the best games ever made on all the old "crapy low res" consoles :p

Edit: Some older console games actualy beffit from low res, they can mask affects and it can even make them look better.

in HD you need more pollys to make somthing look round and sharper textures to make somthing look real.

HELL YEAH BABY!!! I have been waiting for this console to come out since I first heard about it. Not to start a flame war but for all the people who said the Rev's graphics were gonna suck should take another look into this system. Can't wait to pre-order! :D

w00t!

Just FYI, the article says the shots are in-game.

Unlike what that mysterious "ubi-soft rep" said from a message board out in the intar-web

One thing that I think the rev will gain by not going HD is better textures. I tried out a 360 and hd was nice, but at the cost of texture quality is not worth it IMO. I would rather have nice textures and lower res than crap textures in HD. Yes I realize that rev has lower quality hardware, but I think it will make it up with programabillity, thus coming basically to the same IQ as 360 for at least a couple of years as programmers learn how to use the 360's capabilites.

Basically Im gonna get a rev instead of the other two because I think it will be more fun, which to me is more important than how pretty the pictures it can make are.

Also, I agree with the above post that if you are too lazy to play an arcade shooter from your couch, then you should probably look into getting therapy.
