Far Cry Primal

It's not completely unbelievable that early in the development process the idea was to use the same location as FC4 but of course in the past - but then maybe further along in development the decision was made (most likely to closer match history) to shift the game's location to "central Europe somewhere." It may have been too late at that point to get a new map in there, but then again who knows.

6 hours into it and I still haven't had a "Hey! This is Far Cry 4!" moment.

I'm on the fence whether it's overall enough "new" stuff to warrant full price (gut feeling is "no") and Ubi doesn't let its developers talk all that much so... never know if we'll get a legit answer, nor do we ever get the feeling that anyone cares about the customers.

Definitely don't pay full price for it. Watch GMG and other outlets like that and make a move when it feels right to you. I still see 25 percent off at GMG immediately marked off without even using a coupon code. That takes it down to $45. I won't be surprised if other coupons and VIP sales take place in the near future. Keep an eye on it.

Yeah it's easy to overlay the two maps on top of each other and cry outrage but gameplay is not topology and topology is not gameplay. Yes it "feels" lazy but so did the weapon models from FC3 to FC4.

The price will go down for sure and I have no plans of abandoning what I'm playing for FC Primal right this minute.

Digital Foundry Face-Off: Far Cry Primal

the PC release of Far Cry Primal still falls close to the console visuals - a disappointing reality, when compared to the margin of improvement seen in Far Cry 4 at its top PC settings...the main differentiator is, instead, performance, where Far Cry Primal delivers a locked 30fps on both consoles on an almost permanent basis...Far Cry 4 also performed better on higher-end AMD cards...

Don't drink and mammoth. I rode this guy right off a cliff.

That particular screenshot almost looks like something on gog from 15 years ago, heh.

It's rather satisfying to skulk through this lush jungle and take care of business with my nice friendly....pet jaguar. ;)

eh, the missions here are bullshit, no matter what they are. get stuff to fight off attackers, do that. 30 seconds later the tribesmen I saved are eaten by wolves. This has happened a few times. Other missions, rescue the captured dude. I kill two but can't find the third or untie him. I go looking and kill someone. But the mission disappeared. WTF? Did he get eaten or something? Escort missions. Well, morons run up ahead, and having bow just is not effective whereas the enemies can run and shoot. Down my tribe goes. And oh look, there is a bear. No fucking way this mission is going to end well.

I think the game has great aesthetics personally. It is obvious to me that my character was the ancestor to many WWII snipers. He would be proud to know that his prehistoric bow prowess saved many a life thousands of years later. It is also obvious that he was ancestor to every bumbling idiot with a bayonet. I guess that satisfies the universe's desire for Yin and Yang.

Yesterday, I was trying to remember if any of my hunting games had a jungle setting w/ bow & arrow.

Today, I jumped on Far Cry Primal @ cdkeys.com for $33

I'm 2 hours into it & love it so far...

I'm playing @ Ultra & had some stutter so I ticked shadows down one level & run smooth @ 60-75 FPS

2015-2020 GAME BOX: NZXT Source 210 Elite case, EVGA 1300W SuperNOVA G2 PSU, MSI Z97A Gaming7 mobo, i7-4790K cpu, stock cooler, 16GB RAM DDR3xPC3-12800 GSKIL RipJawsX, Gigabyte G1 R9 390 8GB, HGST 4TB 7.2K RPM HD, 47" Philips LCD TV 120hz (1920x1080), M-Audio MV40 speakers, Playseat, G27 Wheel, MS 2000 KB, Logitech Mouse, WIN7-64

Enjoying the game but have to question the morality. A couple of tribes are enslaving/killing/eating my tribe so I am going to genocide them all. They are the bad guys, we are the good guys, aside from the whole genocide thingy.

Awesome screens, but damn you need some FXAA or something, the jaggy-grass is killing me!

You really can't see the jaggies when the game is in motion. I play at 3440x1440 so not using AA helps with performance.

I jumped too when I saw your link. At 90$ Canadian, the price of Uplay here in Montréal, it was a no but for 40, it's a yes.

Are you a liberal, by any chance?

oh HA HA.

But Srs, I was not at all excited for this game, but these guys are making me want to at least try it out.

I agree, visuals are nothing special for a 2016 game, quite disappointed.

Calling you out: What games released in the last two and a half months fit your bill for "Nice looking for a 2016 game"?

I was a little shocked at Saylas genocidal blood lust too. She is obviously a mental case - she hears voices & wears a necklace of human ears to make the voices stop... however, I realize this is pure fiction & just a plot device to progress the story...

BUTT - the bad guys are hell bent on genocide too & there is little chance for diplomacy... it's just kill or be killed!

Drinking bowls full of blood + some eyeballs is pretty sick too.

Hm. I have not noticed any aim assist.

Usually if you use a controller there is a "gentle" assist.

I saw talk2troy mention the price on cdkeys so I bought the game.

I've only played the opening areas up until I built a fire after hunting goats and I'm impressed with how well it runs so far. I'm running it at 2560×1440, I set the graphics to 'ultra' and then set anti-aliasing to FXAA and I'm easily doing around 70FPS; it will occasionally dip into the upper 50s but it's not a noticeable hit. I imagine that, when I get out into the open world, framerate will tank and I'll be making more compromises. I recently went from an [email protected] to an i7-6700K @ stock speed while keeping my Galaxy 970 EXOC and I've been impressed with just how much the CPU and other components contribute to better performance in games.

I understand that they recycled assets for this game, but I might actually enjoy it because I miss the days when games had more gameplay and less dialogue (due to storage constraints). Sometimes I wish they would just shut up and let my imagination fill in the rest.

Edit: I need to ammend this. I don't know how or why, but the game was initially running above expectations, perhaps after I changed settings it didn't really apply them until the next time I loaded the game. After launching the game a second time, performance was about what I'd expect (~30FPS) with everything cranked. I don't remember the game saying that I needed to restart to apply changes, so I don't think it did, but after I did play it a second time it was as if the settings applied and my frame rate took a nice hit.

Will you elaborate? I hate any assisted aiming so this will make or break it for me.

In the option, there is an aim assist option that can be turn off.

Even if you turn it off, In the game when you fight a human enemy using the spear or I guess any melee weapons, the view kind of center on it when you are near him and fight him.

I play keyboard and mouse, and there's appears to be a slight assist. I've made some headshots that probably should not have been headshots. It is not really much to be noticeable. With controllers I imagine there is probably more....

I like the random missions much more than what fallout did. these are always cropping up, kind of good, kind of bad, because they often play out before you get there. If you help you may get extra people. ignoring them works also. so that is cool, unlike preston. :)

Oh gross there is an assist. I must have turned them off before I even began playing.

I have 16 hours logged so far & I'm only 25% complete!

I am exploring some side missions, but I'm not chasing trinkets.

At this pace, the game will probably take me 64 hours - probably longer.

The last 3 outposts / bonfires were "very hard" & I gave up on those - for now!

I have been walking around like a tourist & LOVE this game...

It reminds me of real places where I have really been a tourist.

I've done all the collectibles and achievements in FC3 and 4. I haven't decided if I'm going to do it all in Primal or not yet. 100% completion will definitely take some time.

The population maxes out at 300. I have done all the crafting, all the huts, almost all the skills. I think I need about 16 points for the rest. Not going to bother with all the items as it is just too much junk. Now about 64%. Just cleaning out the various missions. I really don't like the format where you go somewhere to get a mission then have to travel somewhere else unrelated to do the mission.

Far Cry Primal is adding 4K textures on PC (and Survivor Mode as well)

Far Cry Primal players on all platforms will be able to download the new Survival Mode as part of a free patch coming in April...And, PC players care getting 4K textures with the patch...Survivor Mode adds permadeath, which means it’s game over the first time you die – unless you’re doing a Vision mission...The combo of Survivor and permadeath will be available at any difficulty level, so players can try the new Survival mode or ramp things up with permadeath at will....A stamina gauge has been added to the mode. As it runs out, the player will become “slower and weaker” and force the player to sleep in order to replenish.

The minimap is turned off by default and the fog of war has been strengthened, so less of the map will be revealed as the player explores. Humans and animals will be encountered less often, so hunting will take little more patience. Fast travel will also consume stamina and food...

Permadeath survival mode, sweet. The regular game is way too easy.

I just hit 100% yesterday. These new modes sound pretty cool but I don't think I want to play through it again. I would like some more content, though.

So the game is getting 4kx4k textures? noice. Surprised it isn't the case already, as a lot of art has 16kx16k reference textures, but hey, baby steps.

this games looks amazing at 4K and on the rig in signature is stable at 60FPS without drops. Great game.

I don't know...they released a "4K Texture Pack" for R6: Siege but I am pretty damn sure those are not 4Kx4K textures. They look better but the way they describe the pack is "textures for 4K users", meaning you use a 4K monitor.
