My friend was on the design team at ubi mtl, he said they never had so much fun doing a game in the last 5 years.. They actually watched cartoon from 1980 like He Man etc.. To get the vibe, especially the younger ones who didnt grew up in the 80's lol

80's was a great decade IMHO. I still vividly remember getting up early to watch Captain Nintendo and other cartoons.

I watched the shit out of 80s cartoons. At first I didn't think twice about this game. Once I saw it was take on 80s cartoons and movies. The wait for my code is killing me lol.

Sounds like a personal problem. So, whenever you receive a video game as a gift, it isn't as enjoyable just because you didn't put money into it? Makes perfect sense.

Again, you appreciate quality, not price. Shit that is free is shit, shit that is $10 is still shit.

And before this gets out of hand, let's just agree to disagree. Can already see this going in circles.

Back on track, I got Blood Dragon free from AMD and I am thoroughly enjoying it ;)

Well, one could argue that gifts aren't free, someone paid for it and gave it to you. You were part of some AMD program that got you a game for "free"....you really paid for it by buying the GFX card you have. Just because there isn't a word to differentiate "free" from "gift" or "earned" doesn't mean that there isn't a difference.

Well, I never argued that gifts are entirely cost-free. To reiterate, you don't enjoy those emulators because you didn't pay for them. With that said, would you argue a game received as a gift would be less enjoyed as opposed to buying your own copy? Let's compare two scenarios 1) your favorite upcoming game was gifted to you by a close relative and 2) you buy your own copy. In both scenarios, your favorite game is the same exact game, no difference. The only difference is how the game was obtained. Would you say the way you obtained the game actually affected your experience playing the game? For example's sake... Eli's death at the end of Half Life 2: Episode 2 was less dramatic because your cousin bought the game for you? It would have been way more engaging if you had bought the game for yourself instead?

At the end of the day i'm arguing that the quality of the video game should dictate the price, not the other way around. The way the market works, appararently, renders this to just fantasy.

gosh, i'm going off topic again, I know this is the Blood Dragon thread. So here's dragons blasting fools away with laz0rs.

I agree that the quality of the game should dictate the price. I am in staunch disagreement on another point though. In general, people get less enjoyment out of items that they stole than items they pay for. I know I said "for free" initially but I was wrong...or more to the point, I wouldn't really consider a gift free. You might even enjoy it more based on the relationship you have with the person who gave it to you, who knows.

I guess I feel the same way about stealing books. Somehow, I'm more vested in something when I know that I put my hard earned money into it. I don't think you will find that characteristic to be altogether uncommon.

Remoted into my main rig and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragons is downloading right now! I'll be eliminating pixels very shortly after walking through the front door. :D

That's why quality shows. They had fun. They weren't employees pumping out more COD for a publisher on a never-ending time crunch.

That's why some of the best games start as mods, because the passion that drives it leads to better artistic direction. It's not a mind numbing task. The difference between "we must implement this feature" and "wouldn't it be awesome if the guy did this?".

Finished in 6 hours on normal. All garrisons, all collectables and all unlocks.
I had FUN. It's been ages since I've been able to say that after finishing a game. I had FUN! I've had these given to me in masses for looong time now: a good challenge, excellent storyline, great time, yaddayaa. But not: just fun.

Finally something in fields of fps where following are nowhere to be found: MMS, brown and grey, having to pull out asthmapipe every 10 meter sprint, realistic...ish, real weapons, friendly grunts following you around doing nothing but they have to be alive for x to work, seriousness.

Hostage missions where fun, all though I tried to all-ninja on their asses... Plan B was gladly an option! "Oh booger they noticed you... Oh well go all out and hope they're out before the hostage is."

Also performing takedowns on those poor enemies, just fun.

Hopefully this will serve as waking point to todays game industry: Give us these whacky fps games!

Finally got Ubi to recognize my code: playing now.

So far I can say that it runs pretty well on my 6970 in 900p eyefinity: controls are a bit wonky, but I'm having a BLAST.

Thanks, AMD!

Really pleased with how well it runs on my rig. To be truthful, I actually got pissed at first when playing the game. I partly blame my ancient keyboard (Logitech G15) for failing to recognize more than a few key presses, but I can't chain melee kills for crap. Literally. I have done it once, and by pure accident :( So I've spent the rest of the game just gunning my enemies down instead. Explosive upgrade for sniper rifle is probably my favorite way to take down enemies so far.

I agree with Jeff on GiantBomb that the game isn't as funny as could have been due to all the winks and nods. Like when the character complains about the tutorial, like they have to explain that it's a joke in case we're too dense to realize that they're making fun of overbearing tutorials.

Anyway, I'm still in the first two hours, and loving the game just as much as Far Cry 3. I really hope Ubisoft continues to make games like this and Rayman well into the future.

I want Blood Dragon to become it's own franchise. I would love to see a bigger, more varied look into this zany universe.

Ubisoft did a great job with this game, its more entertaining than the original Far Cry 3, I liked the beginning with those annoying hints, another element which is mocking today's modern FPS games though it was not meant to be taken seriously. And dragons breathing lasers made the game more interesting as well, I hope Ubisoft makes more games like these. And it was worth $17.50 as well.

They'll be a Blood Dragon 2. I just hope it stays true to this one. So many game companies sell out their franchises for one reason or another.

Crysis, off the top of my head.

Any news if there will be a 'Blood Dragon' multiplayer mode? I would love to play a battlefield-esque game in this universe. Like a zany BF 2142...

Played it last night.

Got stuck in an escort mission that broke, had to reload the checkpoint.

Killed the ninja turtles.

Saw a Blood Dragon with a Dino Riders brain box.

Still haven't been able to get the shuriken to work.

I'd love to see some list of all the easter eggs (if you can call them that) when I'm done playing.

After only playing the first 10 minutes or so. I like it, its like a blend of predator and terminator. I'm also a sucker for those old action 80s movies.

This is one of the coolest games I have ever played...no joke.

The great FC3 gameplay is there, along with some of the funniest writing I've ever experienced in a video game. The music is PERFECT. I was just watching Highlander and Manhunter the other day, and it's got the electronic riffs done in perfect tribute to the music of that era. The weapons are movie gold. The voices of the enemies are superbly Battlestar Galactica.

It's just...DAMN. I did not expect this from Ubisoft. Not at all. Tell you what, guys. Just for this? I forgive UPlay.

Let's not get crazy, man.

Maybe its because of all the comments setting expectations but when I was finally forced to use Uplay I can honestly say it was no big deal. I would prefer just to use Steam and call it a day but its not as intrusive and shitty as GFWL.

Only reason I didn't complain more about UPlay was because I got Blood Dragon for free. Otherwise I probably would have been more pissed.

Mainly it's just the fact that it's a shitty Steam wannabe that requires me to run yet another DD platform when there's already plenty.

Played it only a bit so far, and it is inferior to FC3. Lots of bugs, poor save system and the worst part is that animations are out of sync and weapon switching is a chore (I assume this is the artificial difficultly to make the game a "challenge"). Your character will at times flip weapons around for an entire 15-20 seconds, resulting in the player getting killed. It seems as if you select a weapon through the number key 1-5, occasionally the character will cycle through all of the weapons before finally bringing up the one you selected. This can be avoided if you use the slow and cumbersome wheel to select your weapons though.

Likewise, accessing objects like the vending machines is a chore as you have to be a an extremely particular angle. This can be said for just about anything requiring you to press E.

Often times the friendly AI gets stuck, requiring you to restart the last checkpoint.

Performance wise it is the same as FC3, just with some occasional stutters.

Overall, it is an average game with poor execution. Think FC3, with a different theme and a bunch of bugs. The developers were clearly incompetent and deserve to be fired in the hopes of never landing a job in the game industry again. How UBIsoft can take a game, retexture it, and create some many bugs in mind boggling.

I'd give it a 5/10.

this game had me at "Space.....Earth...."

frigging awesome game.

no bugs or issues with it yet. Searching bodies is still annoying at times like in FC3 but so far. I like it.

@Flogger23m:
First of all: finish the game, then give it a score.

That weapon cycling sounds bit odd, never experienced it myself.

Most of the vending machines and collectables are indeed placed so that using them is pit tricky. But I think this is because the overall nature of this game which tends to laugh at the player and with the player.

Afaik what comes to development of blood dragon, it was made for fun by the guys behind far cry 3.
Game is made for fun and comes from AAA publisher and AAA developer for 15 units of local curreny sure doesn't make the game perfect, but cheaply made which is intentionally shown in places but this also means little bugs.

For anyone having issues with the amd code, here's how to fix it. Don't add the game by using your installed uplay software store, like you do with steam. You have to use the link in the email then add to cart and add the code then make the purchase. Go back to your installed uplay engine and it will be there to install.

Woah buddy , slow your roll right ... now.

Ubisoft managed to make a quality game here but it doesn't forgive their years of continual and constant disregard for its PC gaming market that continues to this day labeling us all pirates and thieves..

But I'm loving this game as well. If Ubisoft develops more games like this I'll be willing to take more chances like this.

I've always been a huge Michael Biehn fan so having him doing the main character's voice is a huge draw and he really does have some great lines.

Spoilers if you click this...please, for your own good, don't click unless you've beaten the game, as this is one thing that shouldn't be spoiled.

If the first three minutes of this was the end-game reward for any other game out there, I would buy that game in a heartbeat.

Never has there been a better set of bookends to a game.

Now to find a way to go back and play through it again as the hailed king with all the upgrades I earned.
