Fallout 4

The quests are better in BL2 and you actually have builds in BL2.

Agree to disagree about the quests I guess, but as for "builds"...sure, you can have just one ultimate "build" in FO4... if you play for 600 hours.

bleh, running all on ultra with af 16x and aa off, aa makes it all blurry and i like sharp textures. it usually looks a lot better but in this pic theres the time of the day involved as in fucking up the light up i guess, the point of that pic was to show all that im building in this game, three generators and the teleport station, fuck this shit, maybe on the next run. :D

There is no excuse for you not to have TAA turned on:

http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout4_1.html

Run with a post sharpening filter which returns the sharpness to the textures, but maintains the smooth foliage.

Alternately you can just use SMAA from the same tool, which does not blur textures.

all my previous pics were done with the same settings, im running it like this since the start, i tried fxaa and taa and i didnt liked the result on this game, i aways hated bloom, on this game both make it look like im running the game with bloom.

here, for comparison, same place w/ same settings but at 8am in the game (savegame + sleep time :p)

Spoiler question!
Regarding end of main story.

I'm literally at the point of choosing factions. Now, what repercussions does this have? I've spent 90% of my building time at Sanctuary aka the Minutemens place, so if I choose another faction, I will no longer be able to build there?
As well, with any faction choice, am I instantly enemies with the rest?

I created a save file just before the faction split and played all the endings.
In order: BOS >= RR > Institute

RR has a better finale, BOS has a better questline, Institute just sucks all-around.
I believe there's a 4th MM finale which I didn't play.

In terms of content... BOS is about 2-3 hours, both RR and Institute are about 1 hour, with RR being slightly longer. Institute is very short.

What is a spoiler tag and how do I use it? This isn't reddit, not everyone wants to know the ending here.

[ spoiler=Fallout 4]spoiler text here[/spoiler]

Just remove that space after the first bracket for it to work normally like this...

spoiler text here

I was being sarcastic with that towards the post above mine. :(

At least for now there appears to be some disagreement on the merits of TAA and TXAA.

I'm going to try it again myself today but at least up until this my own experiences with at least TXAA were closer to what came up in this article: It's like a thin layer of vaseline smeared on the screen and the performance hit isn't worth it for what it does.

I see the detail about the post processor in the tweakguides link.

Its fine either way. A lot of people dont even realize there are spoiler tags available for use (I didnt for the longest time), so it can be handy to post them up esp in a game thread with tons of possible spoilers/endings. :)

At this point I'm just roaming around the map in areas that havent been explored much. Run into some neat stuff here and there, but at this point, I think I've reached a power level that not much is going to be a real threat unless it comes in large packs.

Time to maybe start looking at learning the intricacies of settlement design.

I put over 200 hours into Skyrim by the end of 2011 and here we are 2 weeks after FO4's release and I'm completely done with it.
Hopefully I will be able to clock another 100 hours into the game within a year or two when there are more mods out. I'm not sure that will happen since I never re-visited FO3 or NV after their releases.

I still need to finish FO4's campaign, though. I stopped when I reached the faction choice.

I do have high hopes for TES VI. Hopefully we get a new engine and much bigger scale, a true 'next-gen' sequel.

Was that vanilla Skyrim? Are you sure that was without any of the dlc or mods?

No kidding. The mods are what made me play the crap out of Skyrim and FO3. Both did a ton to improve the game. Even with all the mods, couldn't fix FONV enough to make me want to play it. Setting just sucked.

Further logging in 100+ hours in less than 3 weeks? It is no surprise he burned out.

I'm not burned out, I've finished the game. I've discovered every location and explored every square inch of the map. There's nothing left to do except collect magazines.

Congratulations? Do you not have a job or a life?

Because to do 120 hours in the game since release is 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 3 weeks....doing not much more but zoning out in front of a video game.

I made a tutorial for building multi story structures the proper way in settlements. This doesnt use any prefabs, and leaves no weird gaps or issues in the building. Once you place your first floor tile, everything locks up afterwards. It's just a basic structure to get the point of the video across, but its the process I used to build that crazy thing on top of one of the houses that I posted earlier.

https://youtu.be/1uBUY2nQg3Y

(Im editing the speed so it plays at 2x so it cuts down from the 7 min time, but its still processing the edit)

Also if you search "advanced building" or something like that there are a lot of other cool tricks people have tutorials for. Like the foundations, you can put the foundations into the ground unlike other pieces. I didn't know that until recently, it basically allows you to build a nice flat level foundation on any type of terrain. Really helpful.

Killed swan at lvl 13 or so too.

On survival.

That Swan guy surprised and scared the crap out of me before killing me the first time I ran into him

Great game so far. 38 hours in and I haven't even gotten to Diamond City yet, talk about a time sink!

For what it is worth, I am seeing a ~7 FPS increase in minimum framerates at 1440p after switching from 16GB 1600Mhz 9-10-9-28 DDR3 to 32GB 2400Mhz 10-12-12-31 DDR3. So there is validity to the reports of increased performance with faster RAM speeds.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and enjoy your wasteland adventures this long weekend :)

great video, thanks!

the building interface is what got me annoyed the most when i tried to use it :p

LoL, I just built a little bar for the drink store you can create so it didnt look so dumb by itself on the sidewalk, and wouldnt you know as soon as I finished it half my settlers came to populate it. Pretty funny...

Still not sure if the stores generate caps or how much they generate. It does say theyre supposed to and it's based on the settlements population. I'm going to try skipping through 24-48 in game hours without touching my cap amount and see if any are added over the time frame.

Edit:

Forgot to mention one cool thing. I got a message that sanctuary was under attack. Thats where I've been building and have 18 settlers. I fast traveled there to find all my settlers going wild destroying some super mutants along with my turrets going. I gave most of my settlers better firearms and armor. ALSO gave some of them grenades/cocktails which I actually saw them using. It was great. They kicked ass. After I saw that I gave each settler 2 grenades for fun, hoping to catch some sweet carnage when its attacked again.

The settlement wasn't attacked before, only recently after I upped my resources. Not sure if related or not. Food and water both around 40 I believe.

Quick question to you all.

I know bobblehead Special boosts all count towards perk requirements, but does it also count for the stat boosting perk?

For example, if I have perception 9, and I pickup the PER bobblehead, I will avail of the 10 PER-k (you didn't see what I did there), but would I be able to pick up that last PER training perk?

Also, just checking "You are SPECIAL" doesn't boost any stats above 10, right?

Just trying to min-max stats, if Bobblehead does prevent me from going over 10, I will need to restart, again...

Why bother restarting. It's not that big of a deal. You'd be restarting for something that wouldn't gain you any more enjoyment then if you just continue on and live with a possible -1 point. Seems like an outrageous waste of time to restart the game because you may have lost out on ONE stat point. With that said, I feel like it's pretty obvious that the bobble heads gain you an extra point above the available 10, giving 11.... Just how I understand it.

Unlimited levels you should eventually be able to have max levels in all of the perks... and i dont know if it lets you go to 11 but it does count as having taken a level as in you get the star point as if you leveled it.

I know about the perks, I used the fact that PER bobblehead is found early in game as part of my character design, but I only found out recently that bobbleheads lets your stats go above 10, and continue to have effects beyond that point (all other FO's before this would ignore any special points above 10), which from a theoretical min/maxing point of view, is detrimental to pick up bobbleheads fore hitting 10 in any stats.

From the grand scheme of things, it probably won't matter in any significant way, but I always strive to create a 'perfect' character in any FO's, and this one probably won't be any different.

Since Sanctuary is just about complete I thought I'd make a sign to welcome weary travelers.

They do, but not much...you will get a handful in the Misc tab of the Workshop inventory once in awhile.

They really should have made the base defense stuff a quest that pops up. The dialogue you get I swear is either too quick or you never actually see it. Twice now I have received a message that I failed a defense at a location that I had no idea needed defending.

Finally got around to playing some of it today. Got a severe headache due to FOV on PS4. I will go down today to see if I can find a steam link. Otherwise, it will be tough to continue playing this game on PS4 (frames are fine but FOV is horrible).

Also, I am pretty sure there's a bug where if you dismiss a companion in power armor (this one was Preston if it matters), eventually when you come back to the settlement they are at, they will be wearing normal clothes and the power armor and pieces that were equipped will be gone. I didn't lose anything great but just something to be aware of. I tried making him my companion again and the armor didn't return.

spent the last 2-3 hours putting up concrete walls around my town, nothing getting in!!! at the front gate, you have a little maze to go through with turrets everywhere. :D

finished! man what a great ending, i did everything right! oh im so pleased, what a great way to spend the time, im satisfied :D

I'm going to try that. Right now My guys will clump together behind the main building in sanctuary and just stand there.
