Fallout 4

Some info picked up from the trailer.

The man from the flashbacks is the same as the Vault 111 dweller shown at the end. The playable character is a pre-war survivor.

how does 3 hold up? I bought 3 before my laptop started having crossfire issues and was never able to run it at a playable FPS for me so i never played through it. Never went back to it after my most recent build

I installed it fairly recently, as I never really played it much either. It's not incredible with a stock install, but definitely serviceable with everything maxed. A few mods would go a long way, but I haven't had time to install any yet. I'll get to it sometime. :D

It's great, some people think it's better than New Vegas.

However, you need to change one line in the config and add another to get it to work on a modern multi-core PC. You can find the needed tweak on PC Gaming Wiki. They also suggest using a modified DX9 .dll, but I never had to do that. A link to the modded DX9 file is on the PC Gaming Wiki as well.

Some high res in game screens courtesy of Bethesda. Mostly stuff that was in the trailer... minus all the YouTubeyness.

Looks better in all it's highres glory. I see actual reflective shaders!

Why does everyone in the gaming industry have some kind of mental problem? Yeah, you accidentally released confidential information. Fuck Bethesda for firing you. In revenge, you will release more confidential information.

Yeah, I get fired for releasing confidential information...so in revenge, I release more confidential information in a public forum traceable back to me. Why am I still sitting here unemployed?!?!?!!?!??!

Doesn't look terrible. Textures are very flat though, don't see much bump mapping going on; rug is flush with the floor. Hopefully high res packs crop up soon.

Could just be your great-great-great grandpa with uncanny resemblance. Or lazy modelers.
Nah, it fits with the cliche story.

My prediction:
You will play as a pre-war survivor who had a family and probably a dog. Somehow you end up in Vault 111 without your family, but with your dog, and you go to cryo-sleep for X years. You wake up and leave Vault 111, and explore the world and learn what happened to your family, sad flashbacks, etc.

And the game forces you to play as that male character because it's part of the narrative.
Dogmeat dies at the end saving your life or something.

Also hair.............I know Bethseda is far from the only one (DA:I had TERRIBLE hair too) but I wish more devs would put time/technology into hair and clothing. Make it look well...like hair and less like an unmoving tub of plastic stuck to someones head or clothing that's just a stiff texture over a model and just bends instead of moving like it should.

I'd rather see realistic hair/clothing physics then super-high-detailed graphics galore.

Gameplay-wise it's as good as ever. Both FO3 and New Vegas are. I replayed through FO3 recently, current working on NV.

Graphically they are obviously dated... they are running Oblivion-era creation engine. Thankfully, there are tons of mods out there. Load up on high-res textures, lighting and weather mods, ENB, etc. and they can be made to look respectable.

All we have is a trailer and some screen shots, and the game already "sucks". Some people need to get a life. :p

:D That's all I have to base my slightly more positive opinions on as well, but...

I actually would have no problem poking a bit of fun and/or ridicule if the game appeared to be ridiculously deficient in some way, but seriously, it looks fine. Yes, it could be better, but people who aren't developing the game will always come up with something they'd rather have. :p

I grew up in and near Seattle. So... I prefer Shadowrun games.

Though actually I suppose they have a Boston one now too. :D

A little bit disappointing graphically but could be worse. Otherwise looks good.

Hopefully with a new lighting system they can implement actual flashlights attached to guns and none of this pipboy light nonsense. The pipboy light that barely lights up a 5 foot radius around your character.

I'm also interested to see what the inside of a vault looks like now, there were some pretty great vault exploration quests in Fallout 3/ NV.

No, I mean what is in Boston.

If you were to tell me that the game took place in New York, Vegas, or Washington D.C., my imagination could start running, but this is like telling me the game takes place in New Hampshire or Connecticut.

MIT and a bunch of liberty monuments.
Fallout's theme works perfectly in Boston... I think.

In the FO universe Boston is called "The Commonwealth".
It's also the entire state of Mass, not just the city.

Fenway Park, Faneuil Hall, Boston Common, New England Aquarium, Museum of Science, Institute of Contemporary Art (I think this is the one with the crazy platform above the harbor), Massachusetts General Hospital, and much more. Historic neighborhoods with interesting feel - North End, Southie, etc. Also Boston Logan across the water and the JFK Library just past Southie. And then like TaintedSquirrel said you have tons of Rev War and liberty themed places. Then there is everything across the Charles River in Cambridge - MIT and Harvard, Central Square between them, etc.

Maybe an expansion set in Lexington and Concord just down the road?

so nothing important then...

Nothing at all :p

Maybe the mirelurks can be replaced by a lobster-derived version in the harbor?

We may see more androids if the game does involve commonwealth.

(To avoid spoilers, I won't say why, but if you don't know, and haven't already done so, do "Replicated Man" quest in FO3, starts in Rivet City)

Can't tell if it's id Tech 5 or the engine used for Skyrim. Regardless, I'll play it.

It's Gamebryo, you can tell from the animations and some of the textures. Might be updated from Skyrim but I'd bet money on it being a version of Gamebryo.

There has been a dog in every fallout game so far, except maybe New Vegas.
Pretty sure his name is always Dogmeat, too.
