Fallout 4

Try with the SMAA Injector or FXAA with full intensity this last provide better sharpness than the FXAA provided by the game and by the Nvidia control panel without blurry.. personally I use SMAA injector it's way better option than TAA + Lumasharpen as it don't blurry while in movement, and without that "glow" effect due the extra sharpening which was a dealbreaker for me using the mod Darker nights as it made the characters glow in the nights.. SMAA + 4K DSR (1080P panel here) is the better i've found for that kind of visual.

for settlements im using the Sim Settlement mod, one of the best mods ever used by me in this game, I think it should be even part of the game haha. highly recommended to anyone here

I'll mess around with all of that for fun. :)

How is that Sim Settlement Mod? It sure looks good. I see about 20 bugs outstanding on it so far.

So far all I've done is use the game's own settings...I use Fallout 4's Tweaker done by a modder named Bilago... makes life a lot easier and a must have.

I've maxed out eye candy, settings, "recommended" in Bilago's tweaker.

Native resolution.

For now all I'm using is the game's TAA setting with AF maxed at 16 and the latest version of Reshade's Adaptive Sharpener at default setting of 1.0. Nothing else. For now less is more and I'm really impressed with how it looks.

A Little Bit of Green. Less is more but touches some things up. After 200 years things shouldn't be *that* barren.

For settlements, so far, I'm using Homemaker and SOE along with the mod that gives you the Home Plate fuseboxes to use as a generator and the other mod that gives the power conduits expanded coverage.

It's great. I can put one 100 power fusebox up in Sanctuary by the bridge, connect one conduit to it, poof! Every passive power thing in that entire area is lit up. It's great.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12032/?

See this mod? I consider it absolutely essential when it works right. Unfortunately it looks like it's been abandoned for a year and I really hope it gets updated or someone else picks it up or runs something comparable. It takes a lot of the tedium out of settlement micromanaging.

True Storms combined with Darker Nights Level 3 (for me) is a really nice combination. The nights are darker without being absurd. In the console I did set timescale to 6 to slow that cycle down a little bit. I wouldn't go any lower than that.

Silent Protagonist mod. Anyone doing a replay should get this ASAP.

This eliminates the voices for your character.

A must have for me on this since I'm playing as Snake from MGS (per Armorsmith and compatible mods) or trying to as much as the game's choices allow for. The characters' goodie two shoes voices just aren't going to cut it. ;)

^^ I miss New Vegas. I sorely wish Bethesda would let Obsidian or someone like that take another shot at this franchise and we could get another "New Vegas."

I think I'm finally ready to actually play this...tried starting it a few times but got distracted with other things...I love the Fallout games but something about this has not captured my interest...probably a combination of the mediocre reviews and the huge time sink involved in playing a Fallout game...I think I'm going to give it a go again (with the High-Res texture pack) and maybe once it actually loads up and I start wandering the Wasteland I'll get excited to be playing again

I'm trying to do the same - I finished Ghost Recon and I'm about done with Mass Effect, I'll give it a go again.

I'm thinking I'd like to try a sniper with the gun nut perk.

after many attempts at starting this game and never getting past the character creation screen I finally started the game...made it outside Vault 111...Fallout 4 is definitely the best looking Fallout game (especially with the High-Res Texture Pack plus I'm using the ReShade injector to make TAA much less blurry)...still doesn't look like Crysis 3 or Battlefield 1 but it's good enough for Fallout...some nice character creation options but they still look kinda ugly...I did get him looking somewhat decent though...

change reshade Lumasharpen effect to SMAA (dig it with google's help) and it will look much better.. also.. for new starter I always Recommend Natural and Atmospheric Commonwealth (+ Interiors enhanced and after this mod don't forget to set Godrays In ultra..) Mod.. together with GRASSLAND and Vivid Series of mods Landscape, Road & Bridges, Trees and Rocks

with those you will be set with an amazing looking game.. Those Mods are mostly Lightweight and Typically FPS Lossless.. Textures from Vivid are excellent looking and better optimized than Vanilla so you may even be saving performance there.

if you are using the CPU in sig, better to have it heavily OC'd or you may suffer heavy FPS drops in Certain Areas of the Games, the game is heavy CPU demanding and require lot of Single threaded performance.. if you have issues I heavily recommend Insignificant Object remover it make the game way better and enjoyable in those zones saving lot of FPS.

I didn't realize how much I'd missed this game until I started my replay a week or so ago. I'm glad I did the spring cleaning and fresh reinstall... it's running like a champ.

I'm role playing as Snake from MGS thanks to that Armorsmith based mod that exists. It works. ;)

I'm still very early in the game but this settlement crap is really boring...build a bed, build a chair etc...can I skip over most of the settlement stuff and stick to the other side missions (and main missions of course)?...plus I don't even have enough junk to build anything yet so maybe that's adding to making it not all that exciting...but from what others have been saying settlements are not all that amazing...I'm mostly interested in exploring and finding new locations and areas...some beautiful storms roll into the area every once in awhile

Yeah I think you can pretty much ignore most of the settlement stuff...and I agree, it gets tedious unless you really want to play Sims Lite. And there is a LOT of it there...kinda wish they spent more time on story DLC and less on settlement stuff.

Those first missions are basically just an intro into to building. There are not too many of them. In my most recent game I did not want to spend so much time gathering so used the console to give myself the materials in large amounts. I rather like building the settlements up, just not gathering the mats.

My last play through I built up all the settlements but not the decorating part. Purely so they could be self sufficient. X number of defense, x number of beds, water, food etc.

I liked that part of Fallout 4, but can see how people could see it as being tedious. I would have liked to see the Fo4 app be able to tie into settlement management though.

the game does a terrible job explaining how to do things...I needed to look up a YouTube tutorial to figure out how to setup the radio beacon in one of those early missions...the game needs a better tutorial section...

** it also might be because I'm doing things too early...I setup the beacons and a few settlements almost immediately after leaving the Vault and exploring the world...I haven't even gone to Diamond City yet

I pretty much played the entire main game with as little as much effort into the settlements.

I pretty much played the entire main game with as little as much effort into the settlements.

seems like people either love the settlement aspect and build big, elaborate setups or hate it and use it as little as possible...there doesn't seem to be any middle ground...I find it takes away from the exploration and typical Fallout gameplay which the series is known for... :D

settlements was just tacked on, because building shit is cool.
it makes no sense in the context of the game that you collect scrap and can make buildings/equipment magically appear in the wasteland
If you actually had settlers there required to do the building, that would make sense but no

I have to admit now that I understand the mechanics of the settlements aspect I'm actually liking it...the game does a terrible job at explaining it so I used some online guides and now it makes total sense...I was starting to get frustrated with how prominent of a role Bethesda gave to this new feature but it really is fun and can get really elaborate if you choose to make it...for now I'm keeping Sanctuary as my main settlement and got it up and running with food, water, beds, turret defenses etc...I think it's at 69% happiness now and rising...I'm going to get the Local Leader perk soon which will allow me to connect supply lines making building easier...I started over and created a new game 3 times during my current playthrough because of the confusion over how to set things up

it's pretty cool how in Workshop Mode you can go around and scrap almost anything that is lying around your settlement

overall the gameplay is typical Fallout with much better graphics...the exploration and side quests are as fun as ever and the game seems less buggy then typical Bethesda games but I think that's because I waited so long before playing...I haven't even reached Diamond City yet as I've just been wandering around discovering new locations and setting up new outposts...I'm currently at Level 13 and have joined the Brotherhood of Steel...another aspect which confused me early on was that you pretty much need to collect every piece of junk you find, scrap it and transfer it over to your Workbench so that you can build, mod and repair

This is why many people hate settlements. Having to pickup all that junk while not going over weight limits is a pain. I fully built out vault 88 in my game. Every happiness item, 50+ of everything, rooms, weapon/armor displays, pool table and all that jazz just to say I did it. Everywhere else got the bare minimum except for defense to stop all the stupid failed to defend scrolling.

I wanted to stab the dude in sanctuary after a while though, "oh, there's something else I need help with".

Yep, I hear ya. It is a heck of a chore to collect all the junk needed to build a structure and equipment and all that. Settlement building isn't for everyone. But, I can tell you straight up that after completing the last quest for the Minutemen, the prize is well worth the effort. I used the weapon, stock and modded and it kicked some serious ass. Even against large enemies. After that was over, I went my own way with building and completely avoided the Minutemen 'busy' quests. Built a few humongous buildings along the way but only to say that I did it or to show off the collected loot.

Either way, settlement building isn't for everyone. :)

There's a mod for that. Stopping him from bothering you all the time, I mean...not stabbing him. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there's one for that, too.

Side-quest of the WTF? kind...

I'm currently in Nuka World, have taken over the park and started doing side-quests for each of the three gangs. Went to The Pack to get a side-quest and Mason goes on about The Operators working with an associate who is in cohorts with The Pack. After he gets through babbling I accept the side-quest and he assigns me this little gem:

I'm a honorably discharged Marine and (what I think) am a great tactical assessment, planner and executioner type person. I see several approaches yet wanted to get the community's opinion of how to go about completing this particular assignment.

How would you all approach this situation?

console command is always your friend if you need some extra junk.. ;) or added carry weight size.. :bag:

Yep, I used to build characters (yes, characters) around carrying as much shit as possible, or at least do away with carrying as much crap as the game legitimately allows with in game mechanics. This was even in NWN1 as I often completely refuse to play a non-str based character just so weight wouldn't be an issue.

I think it was Fallout 4 that I simply caved in (the perks didn't give anywhere NEAR enough carry weight), and consoled myself 10k carry weight. I definitely spent more time building settlements than I did playing the actual game, just so I could have a constant supply of fresh water to barter with and buy an arsenal enough to rearm the USA.

Legend has it that I could fit 3 water purifiers in the puddle of water in the middle of that drive-in cinema, but I could only manage to fit 2 :(

Yeah, I am weird like that.

Oh, I also farmed Hubologists outside of SF in FO2 (for their H&K G11e) just to test how many normal Power Armors I could fit into a locker... (something like a dozen, not more than 17, not less than 6, though I cannot remember).

Stealth boy your way into the place, silent kill everything that moves and isn't called Butcher, shout "aaaahh!!!! Fresh Meat!" behind his back (or preferably in his sleep), and during the confusion, zap him and collar him.

(I have not played any of the FO4 DLCs so I have no idea what the quest involves exactly...)

What I ended-up doing was having Valentine wait outside the hospital since I didn't want to attract any undue attention. Snuck in all the way to the operating theater room, killing a mutant hound and a super mutant brute with a suppressed 7.62 sniper rifle (6.0x damage with the aid of a dose of Calmex Silk) without drawing any attention. Moved to the audience room directly behind the target, opened the double doors and slapped the collar on him without alerting the mutant hound in the same room. Then, snuck right back out without killing or alerting any other mutants in the building. Perhaps not my best covert operation but it was good execution nonetheless. :)

One note to add for PC players. If you are using Legendary Modification with junks808's Legendary Modification - DLC and additional fixes then upgrade the Cryolater with the default game mods (snowball barrel, specifically) then add the 10% freeze chance Legendary effect. Playing in Normal Mode this is what you can expect if your aim is good:

Legendary Gunner Commanders = 2 shots, minimum 1 critical
Mythic Deathclaws = about 3/4 of a full mag (25 rounds)
Legendary Raider Survivalists = 1 critical shot
Super Mutant Behemoth = 4 shots with at least 1 critical

On Very Hard mode each enemy will require additional critical and non-critical hits to take down but it isn't much more than normal. The largest challenge is finding the cryo cell ammo needed to feed the weapon which is why I don't use it very much at all. I did get lucky when going through Gunner's Plaza. Seemed that place and Greenetech held treasure troves of cryo cells.

That's the sidearm I carry everywhere. Well-balanced weapon.

^^ This is now one of my main go-to weapons. This is fantastic without making it a "God weapon."

Looked at the .50 rifle but it just didn't seem like my type of weapon so I passed on it.

^^ I like this but a bit rougher around the edges and some tweaking and refinement.

Thanks for the link to the Console Name Fix mod. Haven't seen this one but will be downloading shortly.

I been using that Sim Settlement mod the last few times I played and it actually makes it tolerable to manage settlements and takes away a massive grind. I highly recommend it to anyone not using it.

There are a lot of shortcomings to Contraptions DLC. Many mods fix these shortcomings but not all. One of these is ammunition for energy weapons.

I got tired of spending a crap-ton of caps for Cryo, Fusion and other types of energy weapons. Got it into my head to turn Starlight Drive-in to a manufacturing site for the types of ammo that I normally use. Alright, let's get to work.

Re-assigned almost every supply line to Starlight Drive-in so I would have an ample amount of material to build a large manufacturing facility. I don't use fast travel so that took awhile. Once accomplished, started building a four story warehouse to house the equipment.

AceGoober_FO4_0253.jpg

Then, started adding in the equipment. Guess what? There are no Contraptions recipes for energy ammunition. Well, crap. Mods currently available only support energy ammo creation at a work bench. I don't want to go to a damn workbench to create energy weapon ammo when I have a slew of minio..er, settlers to gather the components necessary for me if the recipes had existed in the first place. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to be happy with creating ballistic ammo with this one. Maybe a few weapons as well.

Started a new character due to me messing up and missing a step so the Railroad, Minutemen and BoS all get along.

For this playthrough I decided to forego picking up magazines (except for ones that don't add perks) and bobbleheads. It is being a real PiTA. Did Bethesda change the difficulties? I've played on Very Hard numerous times - with and without mags and bobbles, and while a challenge I didn't have as rough of a time as I'm having now. I'm going through a lot more ammo to drop enemies than I ever have. Seems as though Bethesda tweaked the difficulties a bit with the last patch.

Let me brag on some mods and give some people some exposure and deserved hype and kudos.

^^ This mod is a PSA for anyone wanting to replay the game and the Far Harbor content. No more of that hacking puzzle nonsense in regards to DIMA.

I recommend any of the quest related mods post main game and DLCs so it's like you have "more DLC content" but it's up to you:

1.) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8704/?

^^ Mandatory just like their Essential NPCs mod is for Skyrim.

1.) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16423/?

2.) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21469/?

^^ Those are two quest mods that should be played in that order. I'm VERY impressed so far with them. I'm still on the Fusion City content. They even had some fun with some of the lore and certain characters. I won't ruin it.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25664/?

^^ This isn't someguy2000's Fallout New Vegas redone but early on I like the premise and setup. I'm going to try it for a while and see what happens.

I desperately wish someguy2000 had come on Fallout 4 but I don't know if he even bothered with the game. AceGoober ? If you know that guy, please reach out to him. ;)

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14946/?

^^ This is the OP special. Absurd fun.

I'd say the Institute is the best choice because you pick them and they instantly beam in for instant shock and awe. Incredible! If I download one of those "war all the time" mods I could see where things could get crazy.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16987/?

^^ Puts some life in the land.

EDIT ADD:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21009/?

Enclave Resurgent. Lack of any Enclave was a glaring absence in Fallout 4 and so far I'm pretty impressed with this mod.

Make sure you download these as well since the modder used them to avoid missing textures:

With all the latest gameplay updates (including Survival mode), graphical enhancements, the ability to play Mods for free on PC and consoles, plus all official add-ons included, this is the ultimate way to experience the award-winning post-nuclear adventure from Bethesda Game Studios.

My god I want one of those Pipboy editions. Sadly, it isn't in the budget. :(

Getting close to finishing my Abernathy Farm structure. Largest one I've attempted as of yet. Will post pics as soon as it is in working order.
