Fallout 4

VATS was the beneficiary of several mods including variable speed mods which I appreciated. Otherwise again, you don't have to use it. Don't take it away from the rest of us that like to have the option. Everyone wins. :)

The "story" in FO3 was pretty bad, but I definitely preferred the atmosphere/environment of FO3 over NV. However, NV was better all around when it came to characters, story, companions, etc.

Companions were definitely better in New Vegas, I don't dispute that. I think the characters for me that is not the case. I thought the characters in the FO3 were better and more memorable.

Compared to FO1 and FO2, the story in FO3 was a disgrace and it shat all over large portions of the existing lore. Story being good or bad aside, there's no excuse for butchering the lore the way they did. To be honest, that "airship" or whatever is hovering around in the FO4 trailer has me more than a little worried that they'll continue this trend.

No VATS would be a complete deal-breaker for me. It's the game's secret sauce and what separates it from other open-world games, including Bethesda's other titles.

They surely need to improve the non-VATS combat (iron sights in FNV were a great move in this direction) but if they ditch VATS altogether, it's not Fallout anymore.

If breaking lore makes for a good game then so be it.

It didn't really though. The game was good in spite of it, not because of it. FO3 could have been even better if they stuck to the source material they had to work with. FNV stuck largely to the source material and the story was significantly better as a result.

NV's story was better because Obsidian has good writers on staff. If Bethesda had people who knew how to write proper stories the lore issues wouldn't have been as well glaring obvious.

Unless they seriously overhaul and drastically improve character animations and gun handling, VATS is a necessity. Other than those of us that have actually gone back and played FO3 recently, I don't think most people here can remember just how bad the animations and gunplay were in FO3 outside of VATS.

For real. I mean, if Planescape: Tides of Numenara can get Patrick Rothfuss on board to write (read: An actual, honest to god writer that sells millions of books) then surely Bethesda can afford someone even semi-decent.

No kidding. For all the money and time they spend on these games a couple good writers on staff shouldn't be THAT hard.

Here are the things I want to see in F04:

1. 64 bit, please. This is not 2008 where many people still have Windows 32 bit and are limited to 4GB RAM (3.0 to 3.25GB in most cases). I want to see F04 use over 4GB so we aren't relegated to using third party utilities or mods. Though, for Fallout: NV ENB did come in handy.

2. If I am making a 300+ yard sniper shot the bullet better follow gravity and fall. I shouldn't have to aim a target's chest, or lower, in order to get a headshot or even hit the target at all. If there is wind involved then I would like to be able to adjust for it. Maybe implement a wind direction and speed into the Pip-Boy?

3. Fix the LOD. I don't want to see blocky, washed out terrain in the distance. Thankfully, modders made made meshes for LOD which improved F03 and FO:NV.

4. Fix the AI. If I shoot a baddie in a group I don't want to see the others standing around as if nothing happened. I would like to see them go, "Oh crap! Raider got shot! Find the bastard who did it!" and start hunting for me.

5. Why is there a area limit for where a enemy Raider, Robot, Deathclaw, etc should stay in? I would like to see them chase me wherever I go until either they finally kill me or I kill them.

That's all I can think of for now yet I'm sure I'm missing others.

I like all of those except 2. Fallout isn't ARMA. I want to have fun shooting a weapon without worrying about realism. A little bullet droop sure. Wind direction? Keep that shit out of unrealistic games.

Or have them as optionals like VATS. ;)

Max difficulty = you get that stuff, too, for example.

That could work. Implement a lot of that hardcore stuff modders already add as options in the game.

A little bit of bullet droop is fine yet as it currently stands in F03/NV the bullet rises after a certain distance. Aiming at a target's balls and not hitting him at all is ridiculous. I'm hoping it is not the same in F04.

They need the "dashed line" aim assist like in Mario Golf. :D

Wind direction isn't even in vanilla Arma. Definitely would be out of place in a vanilla Fallout.

I've been tinkering with a New Vegas modded install and here's the order I decided works best:

NVSE
(run once)
4gbFNV
NVSR
MTUI
(run once)
Project Nevada (copy optional MTUI files, overwrite), (check appropriate mods in DATA via launcher)
NMC Textures + Patch
LOD TEXTURE
Camera Mod (edit esp names: add "x" to beginning to fix load order etc)
One Tweak
Archive Invalidation (run it)

This will give you better textures, UI, and the benefits of Project Nevada. All without having to mess with a mod manager.

Maybe this'll be useful to someone else :)

One other thing...

I hope they keep this from happening. :p

A few more hours till Bethesda announces their 2015 release date for Fallout 4

So we have Fallout 4, Doom 4, Dishonored 2. I wonder what else we can expect, longshot would be a new i.p. or Prey 2.

They'll probably have a new expansion or dlc for Elder Scrolls Online.

Not sure if I want to watch Giant Bomb talk over the video or just watch the conference plain without distraction.

Be interesting to see how much, if any of that, hits this year. Fallout 4 seems likely so far.

I think Prey 2 was abandoned a while back, sadly.

Agreed, my guess is Fallout 4 and Doom beta this year. Doom sometime early-mid 2016 and Dishonored 2 in fall 2016.

Why would they beta Fallout? Whether it's true or not, betas are almopst always billed as an opportunity for the devs to test things like server load, netcode, balancing, etc. It's very unlikely that FO4 will have an online component, which means there really isn't a point in a beta.

Doom 4 beta seems a lot more likely, and it's something they could easily toss in as a pre-order bonus for FO4, Doom, Dishonored, and anything else they may have coming down the pipe. I'd have to agree with your timeline though. FO4 this holiday seems to be a given. Doom 4 and Dishonored next year also seems likely. I actually think Doom 4 would be better positioned in the holiday slot, given that it's a better known franchise and more likely to take some sales away from the annual holiday releases. Dishonored would probably do better in summer, where there is less competition. Being that Doom 4 has been talked about, shown off privately, and teased though, it stands to reason that it's farther along and more likely to release first.

Either way, I'm excited to find out. Dishonored was a wonderful, under appreciated game. I loved it, and eagerly look forward to a sequel. Doom 4 would be a lot more of a wait and see type thing. Partially because it's been so long since we've seen a Doom game, and partially because I hate Id Tech 5, and I don't have high hopes that 6 will be overwhelmingly better.

Gah, why is Twtch so shitty? Getting constant lag/pausing of the video, I am on a 100mbps connection and it seems whenever a stream is "busy" it always does this.

Not happening here, go complain to your service provider!

Youtube stream working fine for me.

So far Doom looks a bit....disappointing, enemies just standing still, no sense of them trying to take cover or do anything remotely smart, though I was never big into the old style fps so maybe that's the market they are going for.
