DOOM: The Dark Ages

Looks great, but I'll wait for sale. I waited for Eternal to get an RT patch before buying/playing that like a year or two after launch, so I'll prolly wait until they get this all patched up for optimal performance and maybe some other graphical features. This just got me to play 2016 for the first time in a few years and I just learned it's capped at 200 fps on PC, but still looks great of course.. pretty unforgiving on Nightmare though.

Played for a little while and it's awesome so far. Only gripe is that is doesn't support 5120 x 2160, but I am using the previous Nvidia driver also so maybe that might be it.

id has done it again. The game is so smooth and well designed. I am really digging the speed of the combat, and it feels good parrying the tougher enemies. I missed one codex page in the first chapter, and that pissed me off. The combat is more Eternal than 2016. They just replaced the chainsaw with your punch. You have a limited ammo supply, and your health goes away quick. Playing the gentleman's way of playing Doom, on Ultra Violence with the default difficulty and game settings that gives you. You need to keep moving and use your shield and shield bash a lot. I don't think I like it as much as Eternal so far, but I've only played through the first chapter. If I keep playing I won't be able to get to work tomorrow.

It's good, but is it just me or is the random NPC dialog the worst sounding shit ever? It's super low quality and they repeat the same stupid shit constantly.

Seems like some people here already have the game and playing it. How?

Early release isn't until tomorrow Wednesday

Full release is Wednesday. Advanced access is 2 days before that, hence Monday.

So there's regular release on Friday, there's "early release on Wednesday" and there's also "advanced access yesterday/Monday"? LOL WTF just bleeding us for money to play the game a few hours early. I'm happy to wait till Friday, as this game will be around for several years till the next one, and paying a big corporation extra money for an extra few days early playtime is silly IMO. Doom Eternal came out 5 years ago, we've waited thing long, what's another 2 days

Regular release is on Wednesday, you may want to actually read something before responding.

Regular release is 1-3 hours after midnight on Thursday in Europe, depending on your time zone, which is Wednesday evening in the US. The early access edition was only 11% more on steam for me and includes campaign DLC so the upgrade is worth it, even if the base game is quite expensive for a PC title. It is the 1 FPS game that I'm excited about for 2025.

According to Bing. It's Thursday the 15th. Or Around Midnight Wednesday 14th. In some of the us. I'm with bing just say it's the 15th lol

Weird guy has 7 hours in the game want a refund but can't most of the negative reviews are performance.

Now I'm reading this game is 10-12 hours long even though it might be good I'll play for just under two hours if I'm not impressed going to save my credit for Borderlands 4

These posts are worse than the Flashlight not being bright enough in Doom 3 people feel ripped off. I just need a few minutes to tell if the game is engaging enough to keep.

I haven’t run into any issues besides the resolution thing, but other than that it’s been a great game.

IGN bro said it was about 20 hours but he might be slow coz he works at IGN. :cautious:

20 hours?...seems really short, at least compared to Doom: Eternal...Eternal seemed like a long game...I replayed Eternal with both Ancient Gods DLC's back-to-back last year and it seemed really long...but I like taking my time with games and exploring everything so most games take me longer to play than the average gamer

Remember it releases on the 15th. Chances are there may be a "day 1" patch on the 15th. Still dumb to sell an "early access" single player game if that is the case.

Only played the first 4 missions, but it is silky smooth on my end at QHD (1440p), max settings, DLAA, frame gen off and Reflex on with 5070ti and 5800x3D. My FPS is in the 80-110 range most of the time, but it feels smoother than most other games at similar frame rates. Game seems to be well optimized for responsiveness, but the RT only approach might be an issue on weaker GPUs.

Performance issues could be a machine to machine thing or a VRAM issue. My money is on 8GB card owners pushing their settings too high. The game uses 9.4-9.7GB of VRAM with my settings and typically 5-5.5GB available as windows and background stuff uses around 1GB. Basically on a 10GB GPU you generally want to try to stay below 9GB in the game and on an 8GB GPU you probably need to close down as many background applications as possible, play around with texture cache etc. and turn down a few settings. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people don't understand VRAM limitations and try to run everything max on an 8GB GPU, which could easily cause issues.

The thing with Steam even if you wanted the Deluxe Steam won't let you upgrade.
