Dishonored

This one recently shot to the top of my want list..Fingers crossed!!

I'm not seeing this as "poor graphics"... Video above looked pretty damn good to me. Normally I hate FPS but for this, much like I did for Mirror's Edge, I think I'll make an exception.

I think people are confused by the stylized art. If you go through the documentaries, they make the point several times that they were going for a stylized look, not a realistic look.

Watching the videos in HD, this game looks absolutely fantastic...like it can bring the kind of satisfaction I was expecting from Bioshock, but never got.

The last game that interested me as much on release was Skyrim. I have to credit these documentaries for grabbing my attention.

I'm not even sure what pack Target is offering

Absolutely ridiculous. This bullshit needs to stop.

Even at $59.99 I doubt the game would be worth it, even if it lived up to HL2's standards. Anyone else agree with me that paying $60 for a PC game seems ludicrous anymore, especially one that only has single player (most likely a short single player campaign too)?

I'll wait till it hit's $20 during the Winter Sales.

Ok I really want to be excited about this considering it's Arkane Studios but I've been told it's basically a poor man's Deus Ex :\

Single only is more reason to get it though. Either go all out single or all out multi. No need to dilute resources.

They want you to wait for the GOTY edition where you can get all

No, they want you to buy the $60 game from one of the retailers, and then go and pay another $15-$30 for the rest of the retailer-exclusive content via DLC, when it is most likely already on the disc.

I'll agree, $60 is lol, but not as lol as all the different preorder bonuses from places.

I refuse to pay that kind of price for a PC title. Granted, I can/could get it from Greenmangaming with one of their 20/25% off coupons but even that is still high for me on this, $40 is really the high end for me on getting a game nowadays. Only game I've boughten in a long time that was more expensive then that was Guild Wars 2 and I got it for $48. Otherwise I've gotten a lot of new games lately and haven't paid anywhere close to that. Darksiders 2 $36, Dark Souls $26, Borderlands 2 $33, new XCom $35. Some of those I would not have bought if I didn't get good deals on and would have waited till they were on sale even cheaper then what I did pay if I didn't get them as preorders.

I've become the same way. When I see a game for more than $45 I just completely lose interest, as I know I can just pick it up in 6 months time for >/=$40. Theres just too many almost new games for less than that threshold to make it worth that much. For $60 you can get 3-5 games, around a year old (with all the DLC), with much more play time and 3-5 chances to get something you really like rather than 1.

There seems to be more new games coming out at a faster pace than ever before. Theres usually 1 or 2 AAA titles a week, plus all the older games still easily and cheaply availible. In any other kind of market, where theres a mass of good being sold, and it's a buyers market (with a wealth of choice and a heavily saturated market) generally the sellers drop the prices to compensate. Games companies are doing the opposite...

1 or 2 AAA titles a week??...in which alternate universe is this happening?...Fall time period usually has a lot of AAA titles but most of the year is dead with a handful of good games spread out over an 8 month time frame

but I agree that $60 is definitely too much especially when I have such a huge backlog of quality games to play (fully patched with DLC)

And where/by whom have you been told this?

Everything we've all had access to has suggested this game is going to kick ass.

Nothing's concrete until we play it ofr ourselves....so I don't understand his point either.

most of these stupid retailer exclusive bits are unlockable via a simple ini tweak/cracked executable anyway.. if they really mean that much to someone. granted, not on consoles. but who plays those things? this is [H] after all.

Have a friend that works in the industry. He's been on this game for awhile.

Mainly, while the mechanics are solid, apparently the mission areas are too small and the game is too short, so the $60 value is questionable.

I've been wondering about length of the game. Yet it looks to have a ton of replay at least.

I was being sarcastic, pointing out that it might backfire for them by motivating people to just wait for the GOTY

Sounds fine to me, I'd rather wait as well, though it does look excellent. But it'll be more excellent at a sale price point. :D

I paid $45 @ GMG. I usually like the bethesda stuff, hopefully will not get burned. :)

So wait, this game's going to be short or something? What did I miss.. I was looking forward to this.

i think people are just putting on their hardforum pc gaming debbie downer clown shoe costumes on like usual

Pretty much.

Noted. We'll see what happens.

Doesn't take much with some.

I'm looking forward to my day one buy with confidence.

What does "being on the disc" have to do with the resources required to develop that content? At what point am I allowed to say, "I hired more developers and I want to recoop that cost by selling these packs as DLC"?

You make things so horribly black-and-white that I wonder if you have any experience running a business, or at least have the capacity to understand how business is conducted. Would you be a happier person if none of these "packs" existed, the extra developer(s) was/were never hired, and the game still retailed for $59.99? Or would you find something else to complain about?

Oh hell you know most people around here don't know their asses from a hole in the wall in regards to running a business. It's obvious.

Past that there's some people that I think are just happier and/or in their natural element when they're bitching and complaining. It's an art form around here with some.

Yeah, I'm not trying to get people to cancel pre-orders or whatever, and I'm still probably gonna get it on day one, because it sounds like the issues the game has are the same things that Dark Messiah suffered from and I still loved it.

That said, I'm 'only' paying $40 for it so there's that.

I LOVED that game. The video I've seen and the feedback I've run across...not as high up the ladder as yours...tells me we're getting something better than that. :)

So much the better. :)

Smart move, I learned after D3's and another games failure from a big developer failure never to buy a game at asking price anymore. Wait till the reviews are out and it gets criticized for being too short and all of the DLC are packaged with the game for only $20 before buying it. There are still a ton of amazing games out there right now that can be had for only $10-20, why blow $60 on a gamble?

And honestly, I have yet to play a single player game within the past 5 years that was worth the initial $50-$60 asking price, they have very little replay value and tend to be shorter rather than longer anymore to cater to the casual crowd. This is one of the main reasons why I'm a big fan of TL2, it's a lengthy game with a ton of re playability, very challenging and rewarding, has multiplayer, and only $20. Day 1 purchase no questions asked and it was released with a demo. You hardly ever see demos anymore.

Smartest way to play your cards right now is to pick up the games when they're $20 and GOTY and stay behind, far behind the hype train.

Yes, I would personally prefer this type of DLC never was developed in the first place. It doesn't benefit the customer. It is designed to benefit the individual retailers. Put those extra devs to work on more story content and side missions, release it as an expansion, watch me buy it.

The whole idea that part of the develoment money was used for pre-order bonus gimmicks, but only a small group will be able to enjoy each part is kinda lame. We are all basically paying for all of it, but you'd have to buy it separately to access it all. This isn't in my favor.

I'm not sure why you'd be so confused as to why consumers are worried about their best interests.

so you're basing it all on developer videos and 'feedback'?...seems like you've already made up your mind months before release so I don't see how that's any different from those that prefer to take a wait and see approach

Far Cry 2 looked amazing pre-release...developers talking about the open world structure, realistic graphics where fire spreads out realistically across the desert, unique mission structure etc...but they left out the parts about the respawning checkpoints, repetitive missions etc

I'd be more willing to jump in based on pre-release hype if it was priced around $40 but for $60 I want a little more unbiased info...I'm not saying I won't buy games for $60 as I recently bought Borderlands 2 and also plan on buying Assassin's Creed 3 regardless as I loved the previous games in the series...but new IP's like Dishonored deserve a bit more scrutiny

even moreso during the Fall season when lots of big new games are coming out one after the other...so being a little selective never hurts

Batman: Arkham City was worth every penny in my opinion. Just an example.

Borderlands 2 was $36 on green man gaming, literally for months on end. I have to agree, that I like to buy games when they're below $60, even if I have the cash to burn. I just like my deals...
