It looks like you're over allocating on dex, so you might think it's going to cost an arm and a leg to make any significant upgrades. In reality, sacrificing dex for crit/critd will yield better returns in dps for now.

Lets take your amulet for example. A search for 5crit, 50critdamage, and socket showed me this for 15,000 gold (buyout) only

6.5 crit
63 crit damage
socket

Drop in a basically free flawless square, and that will increase your dps by 10k, all that for gold that can be found in under a minute.


For 132k, i found a ring
80 dex
3.5 crit chance
33 crit damage
79 vitality
31 min damage

giving another 6k dps at the cost of only 1.7k ehp

With 90k+ DPS, I dont think MP1 should be a problem (again I'm no monk expert). With that, dropped gold alone should be enough to start buying better gems. Go for star emerald on your skorn first. After that, you can look at upgrades in the 250k range. The way the gear works, gear is multiplicative: It's better to upgrade a lot of pieces of gear with 250k each, than to drop 4 mil only on one item while the rest is crap. Dont aim for the 100mil+ items yet. If you get lucky, good for you, but you still have a lot you can upgrade without ever relying on RNG.

I'm looking to rush my HC monk to inferno this weekend, then see how much a TR build costs for MP0 farming in act 1. What kind if EHP should I aim for to safely run act 1 inferno?

Yeah doing MP10 trash mob runs are fun as hell and you normally get at least 1 drop per run. Nothing quite like dropping a bell on a huge mob.

I have a few more video's of some alternate builds I have been working on...but I think I'll get an editing program first so I can splice out some boring parts.

A few Elites on MP10 with a Monk. Killing speed of Elites isn't that great but it was better than I first expected. If I can just up the DPS a little more...

I cannot really do MP10 on my witch doctor either. From what I have been told, MP10 is for Barbies and Monks unless you have stupid amounts of gear. I can kill the trash mobs, but the elites I have a 50/50 chance or them killing me or the other way around. I am only around 213k base dps, buffs to around 350k. Here is my D3 build.

I have a much better ring that that pox ring. It cost me about 12k dps to put it on, but the 4 piece bonus is crazy delicious.

Edit: I guess D3 doesnt show your gems. I have all 58 int gems except 1, which is only 50. I have to get that fixed.... Head gem is a +19% life.

Well, for monks it still does require stupid amounts of gear due to no DPS boosting passives. (Well, you can always deck out cheaply in full ehp gear if you're up for taking 20 minutes per elite).

But MP10 does work best in groups, even for monks, as long as the WD, Wizard, DH has higher DPS. I'm just getting frustrated though with public games, where my DPS is 200k, and at least one other player who joins is under 150k dps (about once every 20 games I see a player with sub 50k dps).

It would be nice if the next patch allowed you to put a dps limit on people who could join your game. (My general rule of thumb is I don't join a game unless I know I can solo a treasure goblin of that difficulty).

That is pretty quick.

Try combination strike passive with:
Thunder Clap (8%)
forsight(18% + 8%)
blazing fist( 8% + 15 IAS)

instead of Blinding Flash and see if it speeds you up or slows you down.

Its a bit more upkeep as you have to hit 4 buttons pretty regularly. but it does add quite a bit of DPS 130k to 225k

Just wondering but are your converting your videos before uploading them? I use Handbrake to do this. I need a good editor so I don't have a recommendation there as I'm too cheap to buy what I know is awesome. I'm not a thief so stealing one is out of the question. I did purchase a Corel solution, but it's not very good in my opinion.

Thank you for your advice and for the video. I really appreciate it. I had considered using Combination Strike before but I was a bit reluctant because of the upkeep, but I had no idea there could be so much gains for DPS, I'm going to try it out. Thanks again.

I think your question was directed at Stevedave but I just wanted to share my experience when making a video.


I'm using a trial version of Bandicam (10 minute recording limit each session) but it works really well. Barely has any impact on framerates when recording. http://www.bandicam.com/fraps-alternative/

If I want to edit the video's from Bandicam in for example Windows Movie Maker, I use these settings: http://www.bandicam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1125

Recording and rendering is pretty easy. The editing can be easy if you actually read a little background information before you start. To be really good at it takes time and practice to get your style right.

I never tried Windows Movie Maker to edit with. I'll give it a whirl and see how it is. I already have a FRAPS license, but I might have to purchase DXTORY to capture video in the future. Some of my older games can only be played in fullscreen and aren't compatible with FRAPS. FRAPS also messes with my ability to stream to www.Twitch.tv in some games.

I have a Corel VideoStudio but I'm not in love with it. For some reason my videos end up with sound desync issues. If I take the same video and render it with Handbrake everything is fine. One day I shall mess with it to see what's wrong.

Na I just used fraps and then popped it right on youtube.....probably why it took over an hour to upload the video was like 15 gigs.

I'll likely try it out next time...I just finished putting this one up....8 gigs for about 3 minutes. Act 3 key run in just over 3 minutes on MP6....missed the key though.

Average between 3 to 6 minutes on MP6 and 10 to 15 on MP 10....MP 6 seems to be faster.

I have a video of an Act 2 key run in 2:40 on MP6.......also did some ubers MP10 solo with my bell monk.....but I got my ass handed to me by Kool and it took over 7 minutes the King took about 6:30 and Ghom took 3:25. So I might try again but fighting Kool solo is about as fun as farming the auction house so I might not.

Recording is quite beneficial to me because now I can actually gauge the speeds of things and measure efficiency for key farming and such....I always would just guess until now.

I wanted to thank you for your advice about the Combination Strike. I had no idea it would make that much of a difference. It requires a bit more upkeep but if I use Breath of Heaven, Thunderclap and Foresight my DPS breaks the 330k, and if I use Blazing Fists as well it peaks to at least 380k. It burns through white mobs and it definitely makes a difference for Elites.

np... It is a bit tricky I never fully got it I kept hitting the wrong attack when I wanted to thunderclap.

Monk is such a good class I have gone from MP 58 to 78 in just over a week.
 
Feels like the only Legendary I can get is Won Kim Lau, and only bad 800 dps ones at that.

Messing around with Combination Strike right now. I can't decide if I like it or not. It definitely feels like I kill things faster though. I might drop down to only 2 abilities and the bell and see what I think

^^ Why i stopped playing.

All i got was shit for drops. Sadly the itemization is what killed this game for me.

I've read awhile ago that Blizzard was working on making changes to the itemization, but I have no idea how long that is going to take.

Yeah. I'll definitely come back and see what they do.

Probably will take them another year and might be too little.
 
I have put some major hours into this game over the past week and as I have always said there is no way the item drops are random. The item properties could possibly be random but I doubt that as well.

if I had the time I could build at random item generator and plug in the items and the properties to show what real RND looks like.

but to me the identify all book has drastically decreed the annoyance of finding nothing but trash. And crafting can result in some truly bad ass items.

Once again, if you're lucky. I was bored, and having all the items which can give me upgrades cost 1 billion+, which I don't have, I decided to spend ~100 million in crafting 6 prop conquest swords. 1000 conquest swords later, and 9 of them had a DPS over 1000. Only one of those 9 had a socket and only one had life steal. What I'm currently wearing is what took me 600 crafts of an amulet and 300 crafts for bracers.

Yes, you can create some great items through crafting, but honestly, unless you're ridiculously lucky, it's honestly quite surprising at how little money you'll actually save rather than trying to buy that 200 million item on the AH, and how much time you've probably lost.

The new crafting Items. Weapons still result as you said.

However the new ones can turn up pretty dam good results and not quite as far and in between. The best Gloves, Shoulders, amulets and Bracers are all had from crafting.
 
Just hit 58 on my HC monk, I'm gonna grind out Act 3 skycrown to 60 just to play it safe. Then I'll gear up with cheap starter gear and stay in Act 1 Inferno until I feel really safe.

My HC monk had more dps at the beginning of act 2 hell than my SC Wiz had at the end of Act 1 inferno back in the day. I'm totally loving tempest rush. Once I hit 60 I plan on getting some more MS than just boots and finding some good spirit regen items.

My friend's monk died sunday.

We were rocking our dual monk team Act 1 Hell Fields of Misery... the tree's poison killed him :mad:

Lvl 52.

Monk is my main class in SC so it was normal for me to build one in HC as my first char. My friend always had trouble playing monk and he mains the DH. We're gonna power-level his DH so we can run our DH/Monk combo like in SC.

Now my monk is alone :eek:
 
Paragon 2 now. It's crazy the upgrades you can get at 100k a pop. I'm at like 330k EHP, but only 20k dps. I'll be working to push to 75k+ while staying over 300k EHP. Not sure how much it will cost since I'm also keeping spirit regen above 10/sec
 
My adventures at MP10 as a Monk were shortlived. A group of Rare (yellow) Berserkers at MP10 with Jailer/Molten/Arcane teached me a lesson in humility. I've now settled at MP7/8.

If I can upgrade my DPS one more time I'll probably move up to MP8/9. But any higher will be out of reach without improving my defense.

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish you could just skip the blue and yellow and kill only whites. You'll get more EXP and more rare drops per hour than spending the extra minutes to kill the mobs...its what I do.

Here are the runs I actively do.

Key/demonic essence runs on MP6 - Most effective for my DPS and build. Higher MP would be better for slower moving classes but with tempest rush or Run like the Wind you can cover ground so fast that you can afford to miss a key 35% of the time.

MP 10 white trash mobs - EXP and Items from my experience this is currently the fastest way to get rare items and level up.

MP 10 Ubers - for HellFire Rings as missing a body parts sucks.

MP1 tempest rush - for fun.
 
I'm looking at ~2mil skorns for my monk that will at least double my current dps. Funny thing is that I haven't even finished buying my first stash tab yet:)

Can't wait to hit lvl 60 on my HC monk to start buying some nice upgrade not so expensive.

The high DPS weapon before that mostly all have -level req and are pretty expensive...

I regret not buying a 880 DPS claw for 200k a couple of days ago :mad: Had to buy a 700 DPS Hammer for 70k last night.. I attack so slow!! :D
 
I'm currently using a 1k dps 2hander with OS, spirit regen, and 7 reduced level. It was an instant 5x more damage as soon as I hit 53 :). Perfect for tempest rush through hell.

If I can get my hands on a skorn tonight I can give you the staff if you want a 2hander.

I did have a -10lvl 900 dps fist, but I think that sold already, I'll check when I get home.
 
Anyone else get random what seems like stutters sometimes? I've noticed this since I got my 3770k. Afterburner says I am at a constant 60FPS, yet it looks like the game is lagging like crazy at times, is this just shitty netcode problems?

If what you are talking about is different than RubberBanding then no.

But if you are talking about rubberbanding then yes I get them all the time....pretty much everytime I start to tempest rush out of damage I get rubberbanded back into it.
