Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

not really; just speaks loudly about the people who participate in the hard gaming forums. I'd say the whiners in this forum and the rest of the world are the minority when it comes to the diablo community 5% or less.

There are enough people "whining" that Bashiok came out of the woodwork and admitted their end-game content was junk and that, since this is not WoW, they couldn't be expected to pump out new content every couple of months (funny how they couldn't pump out a couple of months worth of content either).

I frequent a number of forums, large and small, and pretty much all the Diablo threads/sections look like this one: tons of complaints, more Auction House "strategy guides" than theorycrafting threads about skills/builds (even on forums centered on D3), talk of quitting, and a large number of posts/threads regarding fixing mf/gear swapping/gear stats/drop rates.

I too didn't think much of people dropping the game until all the irritants and disappointing factors piled up and I thought "I don't even want to play this anymore"...so I didn't, and I spent thousands of hours playing D2. I played D3 for about 150.

150 hours is a ton of game time but thats beside the point really.

The general feeling is that most people enjoy the game immensely. I dont know any other game that people complain about after playing for 150 hours thats just silly. Ive played about 90 or less and I can say only a couple of those hours havent been enjoyable. thats a pretty good price to game time ratio. Most single player games last what 30 hours at the most and thats a thorough play through. Its easy to throw a word like entitlement out there but honestly man 60 bucks got you 150 hours of entertainment. that is unheard of even in the game industry.

The volcal minority on the forums, because you hang around these forums alot you get it in your head that everyone hates the game. It's simply not true its just most people use forums to Whine.

Blizzard forums are hillarious, they always have been and always will be one massive QQ

I think people are more dissapointed that D3 isn't as good as D1 or D2.

If you went to your favorite restaurant with your friends and your favorite meal got served not to your liking, your friends wouldn't yell "ENTITLEMENT FAGGYT" in your face.

Waiting for my car to be serviced so read through that entire thread Intel posted. More whiners there than on this forum!

In other news, I started a barb on hardcore the other day. Just took down belial on nightmare last night at level 43. If you are starting to get bored with thia game but really want to get more mileage out of it, I highly suggest rolling a character in hardcore. Every time your health drops below 50%, your heartrate will rise. My closest call so far was belial on normal. As I mindlessly facetanked him, his poison got my 2500 health down to about 25%. Needless to say, I immediately went to thr auction house and spent my remaining gold on doubling my hp. At level 43 now I have 3200 armor and 17k HP and still feel like it is insufficient.

What do you expect though, Activision calls the shots its nothing to do with blizzard. I'm sure if they were not owned by activision we would get a much more fun game.

But thats the way she goes, Blizzard sold out along time ago. But i meen in all honestly i play this game very casually now and i make money from it so im not even bothered, The game design is tailored around mindless grinding its never going to be Truly fun. Same way i wouldnt find WoW fun now despite the fact in TBC i was hardcore as hell. You get older and you change

No it isn't: I just told you that I played thousands of hours of D2...and this is the next game in that same series. Hell, pretty much every other Blizzard game is known for long life; this isn't some crazy new standard.

But if you want to talk value and get that out of the way, it boils down to this:
I'm not sorry I bought the game, I'm just sorry that this was what the game ended up being after 4-8 years of development.

Across the board, the lack of depth in D3 is astounding compared to what they had to build upon. I mean, it was all right there for them. But going back and listening to the dev interviews and whatnot, it's very clear to me now that the devs making this game didn't even like Diablo 2 and/or that their entire perception of that game was based on a Hammerdin wearing Enigma. That's the only way I've been able to explain why they would have flat-out removed so much of what made the previous installment so good.

Yes it is, which is why you shouldn't do it, because X/hrs playing the game does not fix a broken game, and has NOTHING to do with "entitlement". I wish that word was banned in this forum, all it does is incite trolling.

Yes, Diablo 3 is broken.
Yes, I have played more than 150 hours
Yes, I got my money's worth.

Yes, the game is still broken. See how all of that was irrelevant?

Well, not to mention the Blizzard of 2012 has nothing in common with the Blizzard North that developed the first two.

Hello long lost twin.

YOU!

Haha, the first time I saw one of your posts earlier in this thread I had a moment where I thought "what the...I didn't post this...".

So you're the reason for the unnecessary break in speech after my name!:p

less then 6 years of dev. time under Jay Wilson ( he scrapped the first game entirely )

i agree the end game leaves something to be desired but personally its still way more fun then d2 as far as im concerned. thats a matter of opinion though. Games just dont last a thousand hours any more..

I still think they should have made Deckard Cain the Lord of Lies, it would have fit in the story perfectly, the lesser evils were always trying to usurp the primes, what better way than to make their enemies fight each other?

Instead, they took the easy road and killed him off with some stupid looking underling with butterfly wings! WHAT?!

I think that was the biggest let down of all.

Another design flaw was with finding all these letters....what kind of demon from hell writes letters to his subjects? ( Insert love letter here) Also Blizzard proclaimed that Azmodan was some great tactician yet he tells you his every move all throughout act III and never leaves the player guessing or surprised. Its like Blizzard has to spoon feed you all this information beforehand because they fear that you might not be smart enough to figure it out on your own.

IMO terrible design and storytelling. Especially for the amount of time they had to work on the game.

Seems that way. My heals and skill loadout are fine for everything else up to that point, but...

I guess I need to be a 30k dps monk. That's gonna cost me about 20 mil more.

I killed Ghom on my monk at only 20kish DPS just yesterday. Was pretty easy.

My monk,

21kish buffed DPS (just blazing wrath)
30k burst DPS (faith in the light)
11k Armor after buffs (Enchant/DR) I might have used MoE:HT but I'm pretty sure I used Overawe to avoid hitting the enrage...just try it out with HT first and see if you hit enrage.
800 res
900ish LoH
1.8 APS
32k HP

Looking at your stats, your armor is pretty low for A3. A3 is wildly different from A2 in terms of damage. Resists at 750 are fairly decent. Try to bump it up if you can. Remember to keep your armor:resists at a 1:1 ratio ideally.

I think you forgot a link in your post.

I have over 1000 hours in TF2. I'm sure there are many many people with 1000+ in SC2. Blizzard still hosts D2 servers and included the D2+LoD in the special edition...Battle.net is very much all about extending the life of their games.

As far as ARPG games go, Diablo 3 is an arcade game. It's got some instant appeal and flash, but the lack of meaningful decision making - you know, all those "illusions" of fun and choice that Wilson talked about - removed most of the strategy and thinking from the game. It'd be like releasing a new Magic the Gathering set that had only creatures and mana, then telling players that all creatures cost the same mana and the real fun is in opening new packs and maybe getting a better creature. Great...

anyone else have dedicated leachers who do nothing but sit in town until you reach a group? I have a couple of friends who pop in and do this and its so annoying. I wish I could hide my games from them but still allow other people to see and join. Especially when I farm act 3.

That sounds terrible. Leave my MTG alone!

Anyways , its funny you say that Diablo 3 is an arcade game, my friend and I came to the same conclusion the other day talking about it.

The game that it reminded us both was Gauntlet for the arcade.

PS: Great song!

In your social tab, you can enable an option that makes people have to request to join your games.

However, if you have a friend in there that doesn't have that option then their friends can just pop in.

Pretty good analogy, but I think it would be like MTG with Creatures and Equipment.....just to give it slightly more depth to represent skill setups as well as gear. But either way the analogy works.

mtg with just creatures is still pretty bad ass though.....just not as good as it could be.

MTG does have equipment cards.

Worst game ever made? It makes you wonder if whoever wrote that article can actually take themselves seriously in any situation. Didn't journalists used to take their jobs seriously?

video game journalism is pretty lamesauce

you misunderstood what I said.

He said D3 is like MTG with Creatures only
I said D3 is more like MTG with Creatures and Equipment

as to say is slightly more complex than simple but still too simple to be complex.

Since it's not really a game, and nothing more than a Blizzard money grab, I'd say it's one of the worst "games" ever made. Maybe not the worst, but at least really bad games are still......games. Diablo 3 is nothing but an Auction house with a crappy action rpg overlay. Even Blizzard admits, after so many years of development, that the game lacks content.

But, people are still going to vehemently defend it because it's Diablo and Blizzard is Blizzard. It will take time, but even fanboys will turn against D3 and Blizzard. All in good time.

if you think diablo 3 is a bad game then you haven't played terminator on the xbox

They're not "admitting" that Diablo 3 lacks content. They're just clarifying that the goal wasn't like WOW: to keep adding content, but rather like Diablo games: to repeat what's already there. I don't see anything wrong with that from the perspective of a Diablo game. If you expected content like WOW, then that's an issue of expectation.

Diablo 3 has some big issues, but the "lack of content" is not one of them. Maybe people have moved on from the days of Diablo 2 (likely, as I seem to have personally). But clearly, D2 didn't suffer from "lack of content".

It's like criticizing COD for being nothing more than a gun shooting game. Yea there's a lot of issues with COD games now, but that's not one of them.

Or, from the makers of diablo, hellgate: London.

I'm still enjoying d3 a lot, and I haven't even rolled monk yet. I'm pretty sure I'll have more play time in d2 than d3 total, but I'm ok with that. At the same time I'll have more "fun hours" on d3 than d2. Both games are just the same about loot grinding, but d3 took out the manditory reroll the same class to try a different build, and the brick wall months of grinding to get from 90-99, both of which we're not very fun for me after fInishing hell.

I keep changing my skill load out on my wizard since I shifted to crit build(trying skills out for myself, not following cookie cutter builds), and feel like I keep improving on how quickly I can clear. Definately beats rerolling a sorc to try meteorb, hydra builds, and lightning builds each time.

I don't disagree that the end game needs work but the game is far from broken if you play 150 hours..if it was broken you wouldn't have played 150 hours.

I spent ~10,000 hours on EQ, and that game is still broken.

It's by no means a terrible game or whatever hyperbole we like to shout, but it definitely missed the mark for what a current day aRPG needs to be. The combat, animations, and controls are easily the most solid part of the game, which is a great step. It just needs better loot, character progression, and end game.

Holy.

I don't think I've spent nearly that much time on games in the history of my gaming life.

That's only like 417 days . Somewhat bad example, because EQ has more content than any other MMO. But, that's what it took to be one of the very best worldwide. It did definitely teach me what works and doesn't work as far as grinding and carrots on sticks goes, though.

Aw man, how could I make a Wizard build that makes use of this badass high-level sword I found? Oh right, my Wizard can use almost every weapon/armor in the game without any thought on my part!

But wait, isn't this huge weapon meant for Barbarians or something? Oh cool: the same stats can roll on anything!

Even a Unique? Oh sweet: even these Legendary items can roll the same stats! I guess that's why they aren't "Unique" anymore! Oh that Bliz...

Max block? Not something I need to worry about this time! No time for that kind of stuff when Bliz is packin' in the ACTION!

I'll need to plan this build out carefully...there are no skill points this time? All the damage is tied to my weapon and items? Super cool! No more wasting time learning about the game this time! Get me into the action!!!

Oh wait, I'm still gonna need to be able to hit stuff with my weapon and skills...The game auto-hits for me on every shot!? Amazing!!!

I can't take any more awesome news! Shut up and take my money, Blizzard! Woooo!

.....

Oh yeah, so what kind of cool stuff will be items be able to do?

:(
