Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I am starting to think they up'd the chance of finding Legendary Items with the last patch.

I put in 80 hours 2 runs all the way to inferno act 2 and found 0 legendary Items.

Past 8 hours of playing and I have found 7, could just be luck but that is some fucked up shit if it is.

Random loot is... RANDOM

So after being really frustrated I changed my build to the Eternal Archon build someone posted earlier...damn what a difference. Actually played for about 3-4 hours yesterday and looking forward to playing again today.

Yeah I had a stellar night last night... Think I had something like 10 gems drop, and I lost count of the blues and probably 5-8 yellows. Nothing spectacular in there but a few things that I put aside for other characters. Seems like last night was my night for finding random stuff!

I played thousands of hours of D2, but at this point I'm thinking it was likely because I was 13-15 years old.

I did play TQ and enjoyed it - but only for 50ish hours. I did play torchlight and enjoyed it for the most part - for a similar amount of time. So I can't really compare and honestly they don't compare to D3 which I've already put more time in than those two combined.

If you were to play D2 today, would you like it still?

Random loot is... RANDOM

No random loot is nothing more than a calculation which determines drop rate and who/where it can be dropped from and based on how many people are playing and your magic find and who knows what else......Thus random loot is.........Similar to RANDOM. Few things are truly random.

They could of easily adjusted things.

If you were to play D2 today, would you like it still?

Actually I wouldn't.

For the past couple of years, everytime some juicy D3 news got out (especially when they first announced it officially), I got the urge to go back and play D2. That urge died after about an hour in game. The game was great when I was a teenager, but it really is quite dated at this point. Also, the item grind made replaying from scratch really pointless to me.

I have about 45-50 hours on my barb, have about 12 on my wizard. I solo the barb, the wizard I play with a buddy (WD). I had +65% MF on the wizard, we are only level 20. Act 2 Normal, had a legendary drop for me, my first one. Was some axe, added +10% MF among other things. Decreased damage and vit, but since I decided at some point to go MF or bust on the wizard, I use the axe. If I played solo I'd get murdered; I think I have 750 health.

Sure it is possible to clear to hell without buying off the auction hall. Our experiences are not false or incorrect just because you guys found everything you need to move further in the game. Loot drops and itemization suck in my opinion because I haven't been able to get the gear I need to move forward without buying off the AH.

I'm glad you guys don't have this problem but that doesn't mean it isn't happening to others.

I don't mind using the AH, I just don't think it should be the primary way I have to gear up. It should not be a rare event for me to find a decent usable item for my character while playing. I don't need a perfect overpowered godly item to drop every five minutes however it would be nice to find a usable item with some average stats for its level after 4 or 5 hours of playing.

No upgrades for me in the game. Glad to see that someone is getting their upgrades though. Happy hunting!

If you are not geared enough to progress then you can go back to the act before and farm gear, you will eventually find gear that is an upgrade. Using the AH lets you do it faster and as a lot of people have pointed out, you are usually buying gear on the AH that is higher level then the act you are in.

In D2, if you were dieing constantly in Act1 Hell, you would go back and do Nightmare Baal runs. It may take 50 baal runs to get any sort of gear that would make you able to kill the Immune mobs in Hell. In D3, people seem to not want to farm so they just go on the AH and buy things quickly.

The problem is there is no real farming until what, Inferno, with Nephalem Valor? I could go do 20 NM Diablo runs and get nothing but 2 crappy blues per. Same with the champion packs.

get MF gear? or just run around the maps and kill elites (which aren't very hard until you get into Hell). Then, once you hit 60 you get Valor no matter what difficulty you are in. People are still acting like this is something new to D3. You were not guaranteed awesome drops from Baal in D2. You had to have a lot of MF to make any sort of farming worth wild.

I saw a number of pages back to where there was some discussion about how Blizz stated in one of their blogs that the item drop rate was dynamic and was based off of the current state of the AH. I interpreted this to mean that if more items were being sold on the AH, the chance that item would drop in the game world would be reduced. And then the topic went cold pretty fast. Did this turn out to be false? If not, I'm surprised that it's not being discussed more.

If this is indeed true, this is easily viewed as Blizz's tactic at getting the mass to migrate to the AH and in time *ding ding* the RMAH.

I didn't have an issue with the AH at first, but it is slowly getting there. I guess at first I just saw it as a supplemental means on equipping my char and I could chose to do it. Now in late game it seems like it is an absolute requirement. From my perspective you might as well remove ALL item drops, increase gold drop to compensate and then just buy stuff off the AH. Why not? Doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference.

I read all these posts about having an MF set, but doesn't really yield any real beneficial results, and stacking NV to 5 and getting some decent rares that they can't use but can SELL on the AH. So really we can all just agree that the end goal is to get as much gold as you can in order to buy what you truly need off the AH. Is this correct? That's kind of how I'm approaching it.

You weren't guaranteed awesome drops, no. But you definitely got higher chances to drop better items from bosses in D2 than D3; I would say it was a substantial amount higher.

And at this point, no, I don't have MF gear...I can barely get enough gear to survive/do DPS in hell, much less also get a MF set. I'm about 50, 55 hours in at this point.

Nowhere in Blizz's quote did they say it was dynamic to the AH.

Someone else on [H] rephrased it that way.

This isn't a new concept. In Diablo II gear was randomized and so absolutely ridiculously rare that you could almost be guaranteed to never find the exact item you were looking for just by farming for it yourself. To be the best you had to trade items with others, as you might find an extremely rare item, they may be willing to trade for yours. If you wanted to get ahead within any reasonable amount of time you had to trade. Now, Diablo II had one thing going for it which was the mass proliferation of dupes for the rarest items, which completely tanked its economy and quickly allowed anyone to gear themselves in the best possible items for nearly nothing. In Diablo III you don't have that luxury, you need to actually find the rare items, or trade for them.

Now, you have a couple options, you can jump into our Trading Forum, post up your item/s and then meet someone in-game and barter a trade. You can also use the in-game Trade channel, and again barter trades. Or you can use the auction house system. How you trade items is up to you, bartering out of game, bartering in-game, the AH for gold, or real money once it launches. We're not forcing anyone to do anything, and if you don't ever want to trade with other players that's your choice as well, but due to the nature of drops in Diablo games, if you want to be the best you need to trade.

Like I've said before, people seem to have a very selective memory of D2.

Also, this is Bashiok's exact quote about the AH. There is no mention about dynamic drop rates, just drop rates based on the fact that the AH exists:

The auction house obviously provides an incredible service to allow for very easy trades between characters, and essentially blows out the wide range of items you could have available to you at any one time. So, in fact, the AH has to be a factor in how we drop items. On one hand you have a huge benefit because you can buy and sell items very easily, as opposed to having to post up WTS threads in the old USEast trading forums, but on the other end it does impact the item pool economy with the inherent ease at which you can trade items. If the AH existed but wasn't a factor at all into how items dropped/rolled, the economy would be completely tanked within a matter of weeks.

I could be wrong but I thought that was just one interpretation of what was said.

I thought it was meant to imply that because of the existence of the AH, they had to design item drops a certain way.

You are only guaranteed a rare drop 1st time you kill a boss (usually on normal mode).
You can't farm the bosses, not until Inferno difficulty. Without 5 valor stacks you are only going to get magic items. Only inferno + 5 valor are guaranteed 3 rare drops + a bunch of magic items.

This is my experience. Nothing of consequence drops after you have killed everything the first time. Hell even the first time I killed stuff crap dropped for other classes so the drops were of no use to my class.

Nope, this is the quote you're looking for.

The thing to keep in mind is that item drops wouldn't be radically different even without the AH. The AH merely smooths/speeds up item trading; trading would still be available and thus item drops would need to be managed at a rate to not flood the market with them. If anything it might be a few percentage points of a difference.

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense. I was only asking, and not implying anything. I can't get on the bnet site at work so I can never read these things that usually get posted, and usually either forget or busy gaming when I get home ;)

EDIT:

Like I've said before, people seem to have a very selective memory of D2.

Like I've said before, I never played D2:p

I guess these are kind of old now, but I just saw them. Heres an interesting forbes article now on the Diablo3 account hacking for all those out there that still seem to think its people losing accounts to traditional means.

On another note. It seems the Korean government FTC raided Blizzard offices in Seoul due to a large number of complaints and them not giving people refunds lolol. Seriously?

Ugh. Please keep this out of the main thread. There's one dedicated to this nonsense already - http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1038784839#post1038784839

Just bought an authenticator dongle. I figure, at this point, <$7 is worth the protection it affords.

Fair enough. :p Just sayin.

Just bought an authenticator dongle. I figure, at this point, <$7 is worth the protection it affords.

I dont think thats how people are getting hacked right now but ya its probably still worthwhile to have. You can see a plethora of people who are getting hacked only on their last played character, the rest of characters are being untouched and their account password isnt being touched. So its not people getting others passwords, which means its not going through account verification anyways thus an authenticator isnt going to help.

Either way its a good idea to have one. I went with the android emulator for windows and got the free mobile authenticator myself.

While we're on that... the mobile auth does work with android tablets. I have it on my transformer prime since I don't have a smartphone.

My son and I have been playing since launch. We first had a monk/sorc team, but his monk would just crush stuff in normal mode, so I made one as an alt. Well when I got to his level, I decided we would dual monk destroy shit. I was starting to have problems with elites in Act 3 of NM mode, which after reading forums made me feel like a nub. I got a point in Act 3 where I consistently get three packs of elites and I just could not make it past that point solo.

I decided to try the AH. Wow. I was so under geared for the content was the problem. I mean, just some base weapons costing roughly 30k to 50k made the content soloable again. My weapons went from like 80dps to 200dps per, which boosted my overal dps to like 2.2k at level 48. I wasn't a real big believer in the AH at first due to how slow and sucky it was, but now that I have used it a little more, I can't stress how important it is. Now I just need to program a small app to help me sift through some of the AH stuffs...

So I haven't had much need to farm yet (in Act 4 of NM), but is the waypoint system much different than in D2? I didn't see an option to go from one act to another, and if you change your quest you lose the waypoints you have already found (I believe they come back if you go to a later quest). Is this right? It seems silly to have to make a new game if you want to change acts, but maybe I overlooked something obvious.

Is anyone else experiencing hitching since one of the most recent updates? I'm getting something almost like judder, where the screen seems to be scrolling smoothly until there's a slight hitch, then back to smooth, hitch, etc. I don't recall having this issue for the first couple of weeks but the past couple of days it's been driving me crazy.

Tried two different drivers (301.24/301.42), different levels of settings (all low, all high), lower sound settings. Super annoying.

Does the mobile authenticator work on WiFi only? I have an iPhone 3GS, but it's not active anymore since I just carry my work Blackberry.

I've had that since launch, though it didn't happen in the Beta for me. From what I've found, there is no "fix" though there are a ton of things you can do to "improve" it.

I actually have two problems. The first problem is a sort of micro-stutter. When I turn max foreground fps to 200 it stops the microstutter from being constant and makes it merely intermittent.

The second problem is a very visible hiccup/stutter. It's much more sporadic and unpredictable. I've seen various theories on this from hard drive access issues to cpu core problems. I've not tried any of the fixes as it isn't nearly ass annoying to me as the microstutter, which when constant literally makes me feel ill. Yet again though, there is no solution, just tweaks to minimize the appearance.

So yeah, basically you can try some of the tweaks by googling stutter/microstutter or else just wait to see if future patches/drivers fix the issue...

Yep, same here.

I fixed it by setting SLI mode to "Single GPU". If you disable SLI completely, it still happens. No idea why that is.

Ya know....ive tried to keep a positive outlook on this whole always on requirement to play D3 but it has hampered my attempts to play the game more than any other type of DRM ive ever encountered. I was never a huge fan of D2 (though it was a good game) so this is not fanatical anger here dying to get my Diablo fix...I just want to play the damn game. Unfortunately, everytime I sit down to play it, its like a coin toss on whether the servers will be up to let me play a single player experience. I would much rather have a physical copy of the game and be required to have it in the drive to play the game then this shit.

I guess it's a bit my fault though, I didn't follow development of the game, wasn't on the edge of my seat waiting for it to release to play it, and I didn't take the day off on release day to sit and play it till my eyes bled. I just noticed it released, and with all the hype, decided to buy it. I've had fun playing it, though it seems pretty mindless on normal mode....clicky-fest and all. Nightmare seems to be a bit more involved and definately ratchets the difficulty level up but I can't even play it more right now...CAUSE THE DAMN SERVERS ARE DOWN...

Very frustrating...I will not be participating in another always on game like this again...at least not in the first months of the game's launch.

I had the stutter, followed the steps here. It made the stutter/jitter go away almost entirely, although there are still parts where it bogs down like it's a hardware issue. The stutter/jitter I am referring to is easily a kind that can make you sick, so I think I have the same as we are talking about.

Aside from the surrounding launch days and the patch day I haven't had any login issues.

Sounds good. When the server isn't full anymore and I'm waiting in que I'll thank the players that have given up on playing the game.

Fortunately or unfortunately enough, my battle.net friends list is mainly playing D3 now. I like playing the game enough to keep playing it until something better comes along (Torchlight 2 or something.)
