Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

What are all you Inferno wizard stats so far and how far are you able to progress?

I've spent about 1 million outfitting my wizard (which is probably on the low end of Inferno raiders) and I have 32k dps (with glass cannon and magic weapon buff), 35k hp, and 3500 (buffed with force armor). VIT aruond 800 and INT around 1200. Reists range from 220 to 260

I use a 840 dps wand and an off hand source that does around 60-220 dmg and has a 2 second Blizzard extension.

I'm about half way through Act 2 right now. I upgraded to the aforementioned wand and source before bed last night so I'm hoping this will help me make way. I stupidly tried over and over (20+ deaths) to get past a fast pack yesterday to no avail.

Skip act 2, go farm act 4. Your DPS is on the low but doable end of Iskatu farming.

One of their dumber decisions. They let you change skills whenever and elective mode is great. Yet I can't change my skills or I'll lose NV. So I have to really plan ahead and find a build that works for both trash/blue/elite mobs and bosses.

Thats the whole point of it. Its supposed to be a substitute penalty for not having to invest in a skill tree: You lose a buff if you reset your skills.

I like it, makes a lot of sense to me since you don't have to pour hours of non-game study into a build and can actually experiment with different setups depending on your gear.

Let me clarify:

1) I use ability that has a 120 s cooldown.
2) I cannot swap that ability for another ability in that slot until it is up.
3) If I am in town, and that ability is off cooldown, I can swap it for another skill and it immediately goes into that slot. There's no 5-second timer that is applied.

In Inferno, when I popped in there in the zombie area (before entering Tristram), I was able to swap a skill and didn't have a 60-second cooldown. I did more research in what you said and it seems there is a 60-second cooldown. Sorry if I got this wrong. Maybe I ran into a bug or something? Oh well.

The cooldown gets longer with each difficulty.

I believe it's:
Normal - 5s
Nightmare - 10s
Hell - 30s
Inferno - 60s

I use a slow 2H to maximize blizzard and hydra damage. I also have arcane orb when I really need to blast things hard. At about 40k dps with magic weap. 20k HP.

A3 more or less stuck here since I really hate playing the kiting game. I just farm Siegebreaker and butcher (siegebreaker = 1-2 stacks of NV, butcher = 5)

Also mass stunlock refers to getting a fast 1h + source, getting up to 2.93 attack speed or so and spamming the ever living shit out of piercing orb + lightning hydra + paralysis to keep mobs stunned. Also works on bosses. Most people also go high crit + crit dmg with this build since you are attacking so fast and because 1h combo is usually less avg dmg vs a slower 2H.

I tried blizzard a few times on inferno belilal. I never used it before then and didn't like it when I tried it. I've progressing through inferno act 3 just fine without blizzard.

There's always the AH + AO alternative to hit really really fucking hard with temporal flux to snare/kite.

What sort of build are you using?

What is your highest damage with full damage gear? I burned the snakes down before they could touch me = no kiting needed. I guess though glass cannon requires good gear as well.

I can get up to 24K but I go in at 16k because I need teleport so I drop magic weapon.

I also loose about 300 intelligence to up my Vitality and resistance so I don't get 1 shotted by the snakes.

What sort of build are you using?

My Eternal Archon build
Split Magic Missle for quick single target dps on large mobs
Diamond armor to absorb 20k if things get dicey in phase 3
Force armor, necessary cause my glass cannon build is only 300 resist
Force(?) magic weapons, straight up damage buff
Venom hydra to speed up phase 3 with massive movement
Improved archon to burn through p1 and p2.

In my glass cannon build i was at 45k damage. 800 dmg weapon, 100-200 lich helm, rings, ammy and gloves all 15% IAS and int for speed. I was able to kill all mobs in p1 and burn him down below 40% in p2 before my buff wore out, and pushed him to p3 slightly after adds come up. P3 i changed armor during the transition so i could survive the gas.

Glass cannon armor set gets me 48k damage, 200ish resist and 3k armor, 20-25k hp. Full defense grants me 15k damage, 900-1000resist, 7K+ armor and 30k ish hp. I've been mixing and matching to push through Act 3, but I havent gone that far yet.

Quick question guys, are those stats numbers apply to all classes the same? I mean there's no difference in damage to let say a wiz or DH with the same armor as the barb or will the barb take less damage?
Also my barb at Lv53 has 30kHP, 3500 armor and 4k DPS at Act 1 in Hell, are those good stats or could be better?

Yeah think I'm done with this game. Lvl 56 witch doc and having issues in hell difficulty act 2. Im fine in a grp but solo its just corpse run after corpse run. 24k health, 5.5kdps, 2k armor. Pets constantly getting 1 shot from elite mobs.

I have about started getting bored with my witch doc myself. Luckily, he is the second char I started, not my main.

I have noticed, as others have, the witch doc is kind of flawed. Blizzard screwed him up royally with all the cooldown bullshit. I dont know why an arpg has cooldowns anyways, but the poor witch doc has way too high of cooldowns on almost everything that could make him useful. It would have been nice if they made the summoner build viable. I wish they would have had him more similar to the necromancer in D2, with curses and stuff that didnt have cooldowns.... That would make him fun and a little more viable.

Just fyi, you need to stack strength, int, vit because the minions gain bonuses from what you have. So id guess they are weak because you are weak. Kind of flawed if you ask me but thats how it works. And ya, minions die way too fast. I am hoping they will fix him in a later patch, but ill probably stop playing mine for now, his mechanic is kind of boring as it is.

What stats do I need to farm Inf act 2?

Got tired of walking through butcher, and got owned by first pack :(

strength too eh? hmm might look into that.

Man, grinding this damn alchemist is silly, I've gotten him twice and never had the chest...

EDIT: And now that I posted that, I got it, lol

The stats to my knowledge should all scale the same. Monks and Barbs get a 30% damage reduction on top of armor and resistance, but thats because they're in the fray more.

I cant remember how I started hell. I'd say take a quick look at weapons at the ah and see if you can find an weapon upgrade for a reasonable price. A neat trick is to look for a lvl 60 weapons with reduced level requirements. The stat curb jumps at 60, so you can find godly weapons relative to low 50 weapons.

Ok, made it to Act 2 boss on Inferno!

Had to cheese my way past half the blues (run to a corner and die to get them out of the way) but I don't feel too bad because some of the combos felt invincible.

In my first three tries, I got to the final stage twice (where he turns into a full screen monster). Best I got him down to was 50% health. What I noticed is that the boss brings me down to about 10% health when he uses his sledgehammer arm. I know that Force Armor was nerfed... but I thought it still worked for cases like this where I have considerable health (low 30k). Seems like every other mob hits no more than a third of my hp max. Did they completely remove the effect of the Force Armor?

I've got 39k dps buffed now but because I die in two shots, I can't progress any further on him. Any advice?

Thanks for the response. I just played a bit and got through the Skeleton King, took me 5 mins to beat him but it seems to be ok so far. I try not to go all out on the gears until I hit 60, just do some minor upgrades and they don't seem to cost much. Hopefully I won't spend that much to get me through Hell. :D

3 hours, 40+ deaths and 80 potions later, finally beat Belial. Got 4 blues, but was just relieved to be done with Act 2.

I finally got his pattern down. If I had to play him again, I'd say I could do it in less than five tries. I'm trying to remember the last I spent this much time trying to beat one boss, dying over and over in the process. Must have been back in the Nintendo days.

Here's a salient post regarding the use the AH and it cheapening the concept of visceral success by ascertaining gear on your own. Not only does he describe the psychological deafening effects of how relying almost solely mitigates the fun factor of the game, he lays out logical steps on how to fix the problem at hand in a very simple, savvy way.

It really deserves it's own topic, but hardforum seems inundated with Diablo stuff, and I figured the few people that actually care enough to read this are right here to begin with.

You know if the trash and elites leading up to the boss fight gave the same satisfaction instead of the "Boom you're dead!" mechanic that they exhibit now you'd love clearing it in the same manner that you loves the boss fights.

His entire essay is based upon the idea that people should be getting most of the gear they need from drops in game. It was never that way in D2 either (unless you cheated.)

Everything he said in that essay could be applied to D2. How many people actually found a zod? How many of you got Stormshields and Shakos? Now, how many of you did it LEGIT with no map hack, no botting, nothing? I bet it's not that many. I used map hack. I botted. I STILL didn't find that many. I never found a Zod. NEVER. I played that game until 2006. NEVER ONCE did I find a zod.

I still had dozens of mules across multiple accounts filled with SS, Shako, SoJs, Enigma, runes, etc. The only reason that happened was because of botters, dupers, and hackers. So now we don't have an excess of botters, dupers, and hackers, and people are saying they can't find gear?

Instead of making us sit in trade channels and spam, we have the AH. Guess what? We'll be spamming trade channels anyway. It won't be long before people won't sell the best items for gold, and things will go trade only. We'll take to the forums just like we did in D2 to trade our items. The AH only makes it easier for new people to get cool stuff.

Will everyone be happy once the hacks get released?

If you want less deflated AH prices, play HC. People actually need to buy lower lvl gear once in a while. SC will never have a real economy because nothing is ever removed.

On a different topic, I don't even think most people even know what a good item looks like. I've seen things selling on forums and on the AH for tons of gold and they are just crap. I wouldn't even equip them let alone pay money for them.

The true min/maxing hasn't even begun.

So because you used shortcuts, that means everyone did? What wonderful logic!

That's not what I said. That's not even close to what I was saying. Did you even read it?

My point was that EVEN USING SHORTCUTS, I still never actually found a lot of the items in the game. Never.

If you traded in D2, you were taking part in it. All those cheap SS, Shako, runewords, etc only existed because of cheaters.

Now we don't have them (or as many, or maybe just not yet), and people are whining they aren't getting drops.

Welcome to reality.

Yeah, I say this a lot, but I find it funny that people here are complaining about not getting all the loot they want (and on top of that, not getting Legendaries after a single normal run, holy hell) in D3, when you usually had to run bosses hundreds of times to even get that one Unique in D2. And that's not getting into the fact that you had to farm a full MF build first.

I never saw a Zod Rune drop in my entire career of D2. Maybe I should start complaining about that.

Agreed completely.

Edit: Wayyyyy too many people want to just beat the game on Inferno and call it a day with cheap items.

Yup. The runes were plentiful in D2 due to duping / other shady methods. I remember when LOD was young, someone calculated that it would take hundreds of years of playing to find a single ZOD rune by yourself. In fact, the shitty drop rates in D2 were precisely why botting was so rampant. If everyone got everything they ever needed from 30-50 hours of playing the game, why the heck was there so much botting?

On a different topic, I don't even think most people even know what a good item looks like. I've seen things selling on forums and on the AH for tons of gold and they are just crap. I wouldn't even equip them let alone pay money for them.
My friend just sold a set weapon (500 dps) for 1.4 mill. The only thing I could conclude from that is people have no idea that the DPS number includes other modifiers (ias, +dmg, etc.). Boy is that guy going to be pissed after equipping it and finding out it reduced his damage.

The only thing I'd like out of this game is manual stats so I can at least attempt alternate builds focusing on different things.

The worst part is I bought into these people's crap before I got the game. I almost let these "criticisms" ruin it for me.

Thank god I bought it and actually thought about it a little bit. The guy who called me out in the other thread really brought me back to earth.

How about better itemization? I'd like that. For right now, game's dead to me (not just because of itemization, that'd be stupid).

I have no problems with the itemization. Finding those bad ass godly rares is awesome.

Your idea of better itemization needs to be clarified. Are you being intentionally vague?

You may have made this point elsewhere, I missed it. Apologies if you have.

Try Path of Exile until Torchlight II comes out. Much better itemization, boss fights, graphics, keyboard layout, epicness of spells, and more in my opinion. For $10 I've wasted more on coffee and bagels in a day. It's has some of what Diablo III is missing and some really cool ideas.

Pointless to keep wishing that Diablo III developers are going to make the game fun for you if you don't like it now. If a developer doesn't deliver what you want from a game there are always other competitors.

Enjoy!

Yes because they never patched, tweaked, or released an expansion for Diablo 2.

Haven't they already announced continual support for Diablo 3?
