Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Have you tried to login and play now? Shows servers down right now for upgrade preperations.

I think his point is, thats not an "issue" though, that is intended and planned downtime. You cant call maintenance a login issue. Obviously if the servers are down, you cant login....

PS: Now servers are down till 1PM lol. SOB.

lol for a company with so much experience in server management, they sure are the worst at it.

Perhaps they went for diversity and have a bunch of college cheerleaders getting into the IT field managing their servers.

Any chance anyone could post patch notes in here, please? Damn work firewalls.

Yeah, it seems like their first option for any issue is, "Take down everything!" You'd think they'd want to manage it much more and only take it down for major issues, and not lock out millions of users at a time...

Of course I don't have any insight as to what they're really doing, it may be necessary. But it seems excessive.

And thank you blizzard for not allowing us to cancel our own auctions yet.....

Aside from the surrounding launch days and the patch day I haven't had any login issues.

+1

I don't understand when people are having these issues. Is it just coincidence that the times I log in that there are never any problems with the servers? I've had this since 2 days after launch and only had one failed log in on this recent patch day, but even that was clearly stated on the right hand side breaking news section.

While we're on that... the mobile auth does work with android tablets. I have it on my transformer prime since I don't have a smartphone.

Hrmm if thats the case then whats stopping everyone from running an emulator version of Android on their PC and using the mobile app via an Internet connection?

Err...they seriously couldn't wait until next Tuesday's regular maintenance to take the servers down for that? Talk about minor...

EDIT: And thanks for posting the notes.

Ummm, I run the blizzard authenticator with an android emulator.... Free authenticator works great. Of course you can.

If you learn anything from this stuff, its that just cause something is listed, doesnt mean thats all that was done. :p There could be various other things in what they are doing not listed. Like server related.

Well, then my point wasn't clearly made or was lost in the rambling of my post. My point was that its incredibly frustrating that when I want to sit down and play a single player experience I can't because of the DRM method involved. If I was trying to join a multiplayer game then I fully expect there to be occasional server errors and updates, I get that.

Guess im just an old guy that thinks I should be able to play my single player game anytime I want...unless im actively patching the installation...

I understand completely and youre right, but it kind of comes with the territory of a new game and servers.

No offense to you but, if I may, I keep seeing people with this complaint about offline/single player.

You, and many others are failing to understand something. Blizzard clearly stated the game required an internet connection. They clearly stated it didnt have single player and wasnt offline. The box says its requires an internet connection. People make the assumptions this game is the same as every other game, you cant do that. Its your fault for not doing research and educating yourself before you made a purchase.

This game doesnt have single player, its impossible to play single player. What you are doing is playing online solo, that is not "single player". :)

I clearly took the blame in my original post for not following the game's development and knowing the depth of the always on DRM. I also tend to ignore DRM complaints because every other game ive played where the gamer scene has gotten its panties in a bunch over DRM has been overblown..the headlines seem to have nailed this one perfectly though.

Nit picking but I didn't read the box...I bought a digital copy :D

I'd also like to add to the list of complaints that Europe and Asia are currently online and able to play....why the hell is Blizzard giving them Asians more time than they need to play this...they can already whip our asses in it, lets cut them off longer damn it, lol.

It looks like single player mode and feels like single player mode; hell even the mobs scale down to a one character mode but it isn't single player because you need access to the auction house. Doesn't this make your pseudo single player game feel special now that the servers are down?

:)

Does it even matter? Youre never going to outplay or out level Asians..... Can you stay playing for 72 hours straight? I doubt it. :)

72 hours in Aion wasn't a feat of strength for me. Can't play this for 72 hours but there are some games I will.

I'm an adult and I have a job during the day. I don't care if the servers are down during the work day. And even if they are done sometimes at night - whatever, there are plenty of other games to spend time on right now.

Being that im a slightly overweight (probably a lie...6'2 220lbs..) and out of shape American, your right, my heart would probably explode after day one and red bull number 5, lol.

I'm 39 and stopped playing the game because I was bored. I was just messing with USMCGrunt. Don't worry I wasn't trying to slander your precious Activision-Blizzard.

:)

in a month no one will remember the servers being down so often and no one will care that it ever happened

i love how worked up people get in the heat of the moment with this shit

Yep, same here.

I fixed it by setting SLI mode to "Single GPU". If you disable SLI completely, it still happens. No idea why that is.

Thank you, sir. I'll give this a try when the servers come back up!

I too tried disabling SLI, never considering the "Single GPU" mode. Hopefully it works for now.

My problem is that I see no reason to be playing in a month. For me, it's hit level 60, get gear enough to beat Inferno, play another game.

I think Diablo 3 has some problems, but I think the sacrifice of single player mode for the increased social benefits of b.net 2.0, making the game harder to exploit/hack, and moving more of the code/assets to the remote servers was a good trade off. A few hours of downtime here and there to work out problems isn't the end of the world.

Right? With the drops as they are, I doubt I'll see much of any sets. There aren't any really fun/cool runewords to grind for. Legendaries are 'meh' although we'll see what they're doing to fix them. I'm not sure why they went with the WOW level 60 cap...at least if I kept leveling there would be some psychological reason to keep grinding.

We'll see. I'm still not even 60 on my first toon, and I would like to try a monk or a barb.

so you bought it for full retail and you're putting up with all of the initial launch turbulence why? you could wait a month or so and get it for a slight discount and avoid all of that. amazon was selling sc2 for like $40-50 a month or so after launch

the only reason I even bought it at release was to play through the campaign and ready up for pvp. the campaign will always be there

Because everyone told me Blizzard launches polished games.

I noticed last patch they removed the big xp rewards for just farming Azmo. It was like almost 90K per run. 44K exp for beating him then another 44ish K for just watching the portal to heaven open. Got a friend from 50-57 in fairly short order.

I'm in firm belief that the online requirement is to preserve the RMAH aspect of the game. Blizzard gets $1 from every transaction when it launches correct? 15% transaction fee for stacked items such as gems? Another 15% transaction fee if you want your money trasferred to Paypal?

They could have had an offline mode easily if they weren't banking on the RMAH taking off and making them countless dollars. I'm impressed with the money making potential of this game. Even with the hackers running some customers away it will probably make them more money than COD over the long run.

~60 hrs to get 2 character to mid-late 40's.

So I'd say you got your money's worth. $1/hr.

Bottom line is that Blizzard fans are die hard fanboys. Even if the game is repetitive and dumbed down it will still sell. People still see the Blizzard name and go ape shit. Or maybe its because Blizzard games are always universally playable on PC and Mac. I don't know.

I admit the game is not the best game ever created. I find it more fun than D2 because I thought the graphics of Diablo 2 were piss poor compared to games like Dungeon Siege, etc.

I couldn't really get into the previous Diablos as much as this one for some reason. I am starting to get burnt out on it and going back to Starcraft II. I'm hoping Blizz can hurry up and release the new patch for SC2 to update Battle.net 2.0 functionality and get Heart of the Swarm out faster now that Diablo 3 is finally out.

I dunno man. The game IS pretty polished. The servers and AH are a separate issue in my eyes. But I could you could lump them together if you wanted.

It has really uneven pacing, sloppy voice acting, terrible writing and story, stuttering/rubberbanding issues, lazy boss battles, itemization issues, several skills already nerfed, class imbalances etc.

Sure, lots of games also suffer from similar issues.

Well they have the Korean government raiding their offices and suing them. I suspect they will be working on polishing this game a bit more before they call it "done".

Personally I thought the story was pretty entertaining, and I didn't have a problem with the voice acting (fucking Deckard Cain, come on) pace, or any issues with stuttering/rubberbanding. The boss battles in Diablo have always been pretty lazy. D3 was a notable step up in complexity of the boss design compared to D2.

The itemization and class issues are apparent, but the game was just released. Everyone wants to compare the balance of D3 with D2 but ignores that Diablo 2 has 12 years of patching and balancing applied to it.

They will fix the problems, I am pretty sure of it. WoW wasn't balanced at release either (way worse than D3 actually).

What's this update your referring to? Global play where you can chose to play on any server? If so, why would you be so anxiously awaiting that? Just curious as I'm a pretty HC SC2 player.

This game will get patched up and fleshed out over time, especially when they add back in the enchanter, more gems, another act, another class, and maybe charms with the expansion pack.

However, imo, this game will hinge on how they do the PvP.

The scary part is that there are lots of reasons ($$$$) for making PvP pay-to-win.

If the people who buy the best gear in the game can queue up and own people in shit gear, they'll definitely have lots of people buying items to do so.

If they queue people based on their total item levels, however, the PvP will be more balanced and more fun for everyone... except for the people who just wanted to pwn noobs. In this scenario, there's zero incentive go spend your real money on the best items, because you'll just end up fighting people who also bought their items.

The scary part is that Blizzard already said they don't care about balance in PvP.

What do you think? Will they allow pay to win?

I guess we look at it different. You're talking about some technical issues and... story issues?

Polish to me is smooth animations, lack of graphical issues, etc. Know what I mean? The game runs really smooth and is pretty optimized. I didn't think the story had pacing issues, and with this type of game I'm not even sure you can quantify that. Voice acting doesn't really have anything to do with polish.

The stuttering/rubber-banding is server-lag issues. I honestly don't experience much of that and it will differ slightly for everyone during the initial phase (not to mention what if you just have a shit internet?)

So yeah, anyway. I still feel as a game it's very polished. You have gripes with other things though and some of those I agree with.

I hope its not off topic of D3. I don't think it changes how D3 behaves, not sure though.

I had to really look for this one, 1.5 is briefly mentioned here:
http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/4592755

The upcoming 1.5 patch will be our most feature-laden patch to date. This patch represents the first steps towards the release of our first expansion for StarCraft II, Heart of the Swarm, and will include numerous upgrades and fixes throughout the game. One of the most significant additions will be the all new Arcade feature which includes improved custom game visibility, ratings, reviews, game instructions, screenshot support, and more. Patch 1.5 will also include significant improvements throughout the overall user interface, streaming support, antialiasing, editor and modding upgrades, new art tools, and more. We’ll go into further details about these features in future developer updates. In this update, I would like to provide some insight into the thinking and motivation behind a few of the upcoming changes.

IMO it should drastically improve the game.

Also, one thing that really annoys me about Diablo 3 is that when I log in it puts me in General Chat every time. Is there a way to turn this off?
