Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Just finished the little free demo. What are you guys rolling character wise? I've been playing as a monk. Going to buy the game, and wanting to go with the "best" overall character on the first play through.

It just depends on the playstyle you prefer. Do you like up close? Monk or Barbarian. Caster? Witch Doctor or Wizard. Ranged (archer)? Demon Hunter. They are all quite different from each other. AFIAK, all classes are having difficulties with Inferno mode pretty evenly (since Wizards got fixed).

Anyone playing the witchdoctor and finding that classes special skills are extremely weak? Im mid way through the arreat/fortress section and my fights take forever due to all of the special abilities not assisting in my primary atackl. Gargantuan is a nice distraction along with the hired mercenary but still, nothing that does damage. Im only in normal mode...

Witchdoctor is my first class playthrough. Where the game is fun, I direly miss my custom attribute point and skill tree options. This one spell per keybind per group crap is BS.

Have you been upgrading your weapon? I suggest finding a decent weapon with an open socket, and put a Square Ruby in it. Those can be had for around 1k gold on the AH and will increase your DPS significantly whilst on Normal difficulty, since gems are not limited by level requirements.

Turn on Elective Mode in Options (I think under Gameplay). It allows you to have multiple Primary skills, Seconary skills, etc and doesn't limit you to those groups. That'll open up your combinations a bit.

Started farming act 1 inferno

My wizard has 30k hp with 20k damage now, about 3.6k armor and 200+ resistance with force armor on.

I have very similar stats. I think 26k health, and 19k dmg same on armor and resists. Most of ny gear is critical dmg and critical percentage. I started act I inferno last night and its alot easier than I was expecting.

What skills are you using? I use magic missile + seeker, and blizzard + duration/dmg on my mouse. Hotkeys are magic weapon + increased crits, diamond skin + more absorption, energy armor + force armor, and venom hydra. Passives are glass cannon, galvanizing ward, and the one that gives the arcane power bonus. I was using critical mass until they Nerfed it and it's not procing anymore.

I throw hydras everywhere I go, and slap a blizzard on a group the basically kit and mm when I can. Diamond skin for if they get too close or jail/vortex.

Im a gear hoarder. Every item that falls blue or yellow I pick up until my inventory is full. I TP back to town and read through all items one by one to upgrade my character or my merc. I have emphasis on damage+Vit but it seems no matter the additions I still struggle to clear enemy hoards. I dont lose HP rapidly or struggle to survive, I just sit forever trying to drop enemies life.

There's your problem. I'm rocking a 51 WD right now and vit is a pointless stat, for the most part. Your summons are your armor. You should, above all else, concentrate on Int. It boosts your damage significantly with each additional point in addition to any damage your weapon does. So, if your weapon does 100 damage, your vitality boosts that, then your class abilities multiply THAT number. If getting your INT up gets you +50% (that's low btw) damage, many of your skills multiply your damage by %225. So that added 50 dmg actually becomes an additional 113 damage.

Go to the AH and buy a bunch of stuff with great armor an as much +INT as possible and you will see a big difference.
Using Acid Cloud, I can easily clear clumped groups of mobs in 2-3 casts.

Using gear that you find might not be enough. The item drops were built (unfortunately) around the use of the Auction House. As in, you won't find nearly as good items by yourself, or else the Auction House would be oversaturated with them. So, yeah, the Auction House is almost needed to progress with any sort of ease.

Rdzona, AceCR42, and dremic will disagree with the facts though. :p

Wait til you get to inferno and tell me you're fine.

I disagree with your statement of VIT being pointless, but agreed otherwise in everything else you said. Your minions will end up getting one-shotted in mid-late hell and definitely in Inferno (including your Garg; they really should have made their survivability increase with your VIT or INT). It's not really a big deal though as you can find plenty of items with both INT and VIT on them. No need to sacrifice one for the other.

Fair enough, since I'm only nearing the end of NM...

To be fair, as a DH stacking nearly all damage stats is probably the preferred route. HP doesn't really matter when you get 1-shot regardless of how much HP you have.

HP does matter.

I'm playing as a hardcore Witch Doctor, just finished Nightmare Skeleton King. I have about ~5,000k health. I finished act 4 yesterday on a co-op with a lvl 33 barbarian. He had over 8k health.

I'm pretty sure an average normal character when finishing Diablo does not have more than ~1,500 health.

I'd imagine a hardcore barbarian having couple hundred thousandths points of health if / when he gets to inferno. That's when it matters.

You just have to stack vitality and sacrifice other things, like magic find and dps.

I was referring to a non-hardcore character. The words hardcore and inferno don't even belong together right now. It would be a decent feat getting through hell without dying, but I don't even think it's possible on inferno. I've died to things I couldn't even see coming because a mobile charged from outside of the screen and one-shot me.

Ugh, I just found a legendary sword "faithful memory." Level 27 requirement and it basically sucks. It's like winning the lottery and then finding out that the jackpot was only $1.

We need trophy rooms so that we can hold on to these legendaries.

Though taht may explain why I see mid-level items on the AH for millions. Maybe people are putting stuff up there so that it can sit in their Ah inventory?

Yeah, Act 1 Inferno is pretty easy barring some of the insane mob stat combos. I mean sure I died a lot when I started, but it was maybe around the same amount as I did in Hell. Act 2 however, is utterly ridiculous lol. I basically "corpse ran" my way through many areas and took out maybe half or less of the rares/champs I encountered. I have Act 1 on farm now and I just take some of the last sets of quests to the Butcher. I think its from the point where you leave Leoric's mansion all the way to the end. There's usually more than enough dudes to stack 5 Nephalem Valor before reaching the boss.

Yeah not looking forward to act 2 lol. Too much fast stuff and mortars and projectiles. I've only fought a few inferno blues in act 1 and I guess I got lucky rolls. They only had the weaker stats like extra health, health link, fire chains, jailer etc.

First teleporting walling arcane invulnerable minions I see, I am out haha.

Like I said, wait til you get to inferno. I've seen DH with 16k+ damage in inferno get face raped. I've seen 22k damage wizards also get face raped in inferno.

Even trash mobs in act 1 hit for like 8k. Those fat things in act I that explode into worms, explode for 15k. I have way more mitigation than you do since I play monk. Monks and barbs have innate 30% damage reduction to begin with. I run with 55k hitpoints, sometimes 60k hitpoints. My damage is only 9.2k (admittedly not as high as I'd like, but I haven't found gear yet that's better, nor can I afford the top tier 10 million+ gold stuff on AH) and my resistances are only at 225 across the board (monks have a passive that raises all res to the same level as the highest single one res).

Lemme tell you, if I can stack 5 nephelem buffs I'm already a happy camper in inferno. Those elite packs are no joke. Waller, vortex, illusionist, arcane, immune. If you think you can outdps stuff in inferno, might as well stop now. It's about outlasting in inferno. Maybe after the game is several months old and people have way better gear, can you start outdpsing stuff in inferno, but I don't see that happening.

If you think you're glass cannon and surviving now, great. I don't want to burst your bubble. In inferno, though, you're glass cannon is gonna be a glass squirt gun.

And then wait til you get to act II, III, and IV. hah

Act1 Inferno isn't too bad...it's really Act 2 that the nonsense really starts.

I'm down to ~100ms latency finally. Much better.

Yeah, latency seems much better now. If they would finally fix the HDD loading stutter I would be happy.

Sell them in AH for some really good coin. My luck was finally turning and got some good gear, including couple of legendaries though they were not good for my char, but they sold for very nice profit. Was really hurting for coin anyway due to upgrading my jeweler and smith. :)

Then I shall eat my words and bow down to greatness. If you're surviving, kudos. Seriously. How far are you into inferno solo?

Currently in act 2. I'm in the same situation as basically everyone else, and will likely have to avoid most of the blue and yellow packs if I actually try to progress. I've mostly been farming act 1 with my friends. Seriously though, go check out the DH forums if you haven't. The general consensus there is that the class is so squishy right now, there's little point in stacking vitality. We have to kite like crazy, and you don't have a ton of time to actually shoot the enemies. That means you have to do enough damage to kill them before they enrage. Good luck doing that only gearing for hp. I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just pointing out what I've read and experienced in my playing... no need to "bow down to my greatness. "

I guess Champs with Vortex ability are a pain in the ass for DHs? :p

Ha, I checked the AH and a legendary just like the one I found was selling with a buyout of $10k. Like I said, crappy legendary....

Act 3 - where to buy health potions?

If I remember the Act correctly health potion sales move to a guy standing next to the healer. Took me and my bro by a surprise when we were running low and no merchant was carrying them anymore, except that one.

Oh. Mine werent crappy, they were just totally not for Barbarians.

But hey, 10k is quite a bit better than the 300-600 golds you would get from ingame merchants. :D

Sorry I have a question....... my friend is lending his account to me for a trial since he's going on vaca.. I don't wanna mess with his characters, but I noticed that the stash was universal between all characters.... is gold also universal?? I'm level 1 but it says I have 26k gold already!

Yes, gold is universal.

Anyone got a guest pass? PM me please.

Edit: Nevermind. I just went ahead and bought it... despite all the issues I have with it. *facepalm*

Not as laggy for me tonight. Maybe some of the other 6 million are drunk instead of gaming tonight. Still 179ms but maybe they fixed something also.

How long does it take to get to lvl 10?

Plan on going straight to hardcore and don't wanna mess around much in SC.

So commodities on the AH are down again. The AH has been up and down constantly, and my items I just bought aren't showing up and I am one of thousands having this problem atm according to forum posts. Another issue, another day, another sad face for a game I had high hopes for.
