Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I guess it's confusing as to why they even bothered with the RMAH and AH in the first place. Seems like it would just create more loop holes for hackers to find and maybe even more money invested by blizzard to stop them.

The AH is not a novel concept. It's a pretty mature piece of functionality, at least from a gaming standpoint. Whatever they did to mess up D3's is another issue.

It makes everything solely dependent on your weapon; I finally leveled to 56 and was able to use a staff that took my dps from 4k to 6k - a 50% damage increase solely due to one item. That's crazy.

I agree the weapon damage scaling is pretty retarded. I went from a 170 dps weapon to a 240 dps weapon and gained 33% dps. Pretty silly that one slot increases it that much, whereas you could put all your gear towards strength/dex and still get one-shot.

There's in game trading in town.

How? Same way you inspect? I haven't seen the option.

Try right clicking a player's portrait. I didn't initiate it myself, a friend traded me an item he picked up on the AH for me while I was in game.

Yup, right click on a player's portrait and there is an option to trade. You can input an amount of gold at the top, or place an item into one of 5 or 6 item slots. Works pretty much how D2's did, with both being required to hit "accept", and your "accept" being automatically cancelled if they change what is in their trade window.

Nice!

Has anyone ever sold a gem? How does that work? When you go buy a gem, you don't get to pick the auction...

Everything I've put on the AH, gems included, have been gone in less than 10 minutes. Gonna quit my job once RMAH goes live and live off you fatties!!!

My sales used to go quick too, but since Wednesday night nothing has sold. It's weird to have that abrupt change in sales. Makes me wonder if there is some bug hiding my items. My pricing strategies haven't changed (I actually significantly lowered prices after the first 10 items went unsold) either, so I'm thinking they're getting buried. Either buried by other auctions, or some sort of bug.

I think the search function is partially fucked. I haven't found some of the items I was selling, but found others. Sometimes search will come up with nothing, or completely different items from the last search, too.

The AH is just flood now, my selling strategy of 1000g per magic and 5000g per rare doesn't work anymore. People are posting lvl 20-50 rares for less than 1000g and there is just too much of a volume to do any market strategics or research. Basically now making my money of any item with +100 to Vit and +100 to other stats since raw DPS and Vit are the only things getting people through Inferno since all the nerfs.

I was looking last night for items for my 55 wizard and didn't find shit. Surely nothing sub 1000g that was worth while.

I did notice that by default it will select your most recent toon(I think) and adjust the results accordingly. So if I leave it on my wizard I don't see anything past 55. Which makes sense.

I did play with it a little but I'm still having trouble finding worthy upgrades right now to get me through hell.

I'm sorry but at what point is dying over and over to mobs with insane abilities actually fun?

Jailer, Frozen, Shielded x3 = death. Cant get away to nuke them and they ignore my pets.

Oh and if I do manage to kill them, no guarantee of getting a good drop. Probably a shitty blue. Beaten the game on normal and nightmare think I got my moneys worth. Maybe play through on a different character...

I spent like 150k and I am destroying hell its a joke now. 30k hp and 5-6k dps is just retarded.

the AH kind of killed it for me.. not only does it take away the challenge but it takes away the sense of accomplishment. Finding items has no excitement in it because why would it? all the items i find are shit compared to ones i can buy for next to nothing.

Fighting them gets better in hell I think I was playing with 2 people yesterday and it was fun to try and kink out strategies. For instance we would have the DH take one and the wizard and I would burn down the other while CCing the third. etc. then we all collapse on the final one. shit like that where its fun because youre not dying in one hit its still hella hard and it takes a lot of work. even though its not that rewarding cause the drops are kind of bleh, doesnt matter cause all you need is that one super RNG and you win

Need to do inferno now then. The AH certainly does not take away the challenge of Inferno.

Yup. I said the same thing a while back. Now there is no reason to trade or item hunt or anything really, except to maybe try and sell it for gold. The AH kind of destroys the mechanic of the game.

Inferno is really kind of irrelevant because the difficulty is good just like you said. The difficulty levels that come before hand are just tedious not necessarily entertaining because they're trivial when using the AH. The problem is inferno really because lower level items are dropping with stats that are much too high for that level making the difficulties like hell lame and easy. The real problem is that okay maybe those super high dps items are rare right? like my 350 dps staff at lvl 54 or whatever. But there is over 6 million people playing so drops like these are more common than youd think and readily available to everybody. Kind of flawed

I agree. now everything I pick up is garbage. makes drops really unexciting. they should just have only RMAH because then people would be much more discouraged to have so many items from the AH

Are you playing a wizard?

Yes sirrrr I am

Curious to know your build then. I'm at about 7k dps with maybe ~25k hp and while trash is not really an issue, or bosses, some of the elite packs, the blue mobs whatever you call them are a pain. I can get through them but it takes a few deaths.

If you think the AH breaks the game then don't use it. . . . really not that hard of a concept. Nothing requires you to buy items instead of actually playing through for drops.

This argument does not work, just like fast travel argument does not work for Oblivion.

The game was designed with the AH in mind. They designed the loot system and drop rates around the AH. It is now impossible to farm for loot because everything is a world drop.

I tend to sell stuff on the AH. However, I intentionally don't buy so as to make the drops more exciting. It may be an artificial way to make the game more exciting for myself, but it works!

yup and making everything a world drop reduces the satisfaction of taking out that ultra tough elite pack.

It'll work through Nightmare. Good luck waiting for a new weapon to make Hell possible :(

well depends on the combination of Affixes and your level and act I suppose but here let me share and you can tell me whatchu think
lvl 56 Late Act2

frost nova = 9 sec cd
force push = 260% high dmg rune
diamond skin = extra absorb ( this gives you another 20k hp and can be used in alternation with frost nova to save some serious ass)
Blizzard ( 20% chance to freeze )
Ray of frost low cost rune ( this is my signature because it costs absolutely nothing my regen is more than the cost )
arcane orb ( penetrates enemies )

cold blooded ;arcane thirst or something ( arcane from health globes ) ; the one that gives +20 ap and 2 regen

Simple enough concept which works until hell.. its kind of like taking a test and being like well I could study... or i could just look at the answers that are given to me without any penalty whatsoever... hmmm... I know what you might think are you comparing a test to a video game? but trust me.. hell elite packs will test your patience with 2500 dps haha

I see what you're saying, but what would they need to change in order to gear it towards an AH system? Lower drop rates?

This precisely.

Coupled with their new stance on bosses, "We don't want people farming them," they've basically given everything the same chance to drop from everywhere. So you can't go kill Azmodan hoping for X drop--you have just as good of a chance of it dropping off a weapon rack, which is to say, not likely at all.

I've seen a few rare's drop off of weapon racks and trash mobs. But that being said, I always get at least a couple blues drop from the bosses if not several yellows. Is there a slight modifier applied? Also, wouldn't it still make sense to farm bosses as their drop more items per kill, so your chance for finding epic loot increases by killing bosses simply because they drop more?

This is not sarcasm, I'm really just asking for opinions.

well that kind of shifts at level 60 with nephalem valor... but the bosses should drop better look not the champions especially with 75% MF

Have to agree. I tried to stay away from the AH, but after getting killed literally at least a dozen times for each blue mob pack in Act 2 hell, I needed to do more DPS. I tried crafting...I made nearly 20 helms at the blacksmith, bankrupting myself, not a single one even had +int on it (I'm a wizard). No drops, nothing my friends had gotten I could use either.

I'm definitely still having fun and see myself playing for quite a while. Blowing crap up is always fun...but I do hope they tweak this game as much as they did with D2, because there is a lot of opportunity here.

Hmmm, I thought they geared bosses towards inferno when you get NV at 60. I've heard of people boss farming in those instances.

And yea, the world drop is a polarizing subject. I'm undecided as to whether I like having to farm the entire level as opposed to running through for just the boss. I wasn't much of a boss farmer in D2, more played casually and liked the friend interaction. I do like the fact that Elites drop similar if not better items than bosses do though, a lot of the time they're much harder to kill than bosses so I fell as though its worthwhile.

Any idea what your magic find is? Mine is pretty high like 48% and I don't find much. I do get some rares here and there, mostly stuff I can't use so I try to AH it.

In a way you could still farm bosses. I wonder if you got your MF high enough what would drop. They have said that the first time you kill a boss on that difficulty you have a slightly better chance to find good stuff (rares, etc), but after that it goes back to normal drop rate. I think that's pretty much bullshit because most every boss I've killed all the way up to just after Magdha has dropped garbage blues.

Anyway. Some (most?) of the bosses are pretty easy to farm in the sense that it's quick to get to them. Aside from I think the Skeleton King and the Butcher the rest are pretty easy to "farm."

Well perhaps my facts aren't straight. You guys bring up good points. Aside from the "first kill" bonus you get, which yields those couple yellows, perhaps they do have a better chance to drop items.

That being said, i've only seen one legendary myself--and it was off a weapon rack LOL

I click every single one now, hoping to see more orange pixels.

I was really disappointed that even the first time you kill a boss in NM/Hell, they dropped only blues. Really killed the excitement. Normal shouldn't have been the only time that counted; you know those items are quickly going to be outdated.

Yeah but then you spend 10 minutes killing a blue mob pack only to get low level blues or whatever. Really disappointing sometimes.

This was my exact experience with crafting. Wasted so much money before i stopped and started to use the AH. The gem market is fucked too. Now in hell, squares are dropping. I can't believe how much money i wasted upgrading from chipped gems
