Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I really don't use Diamond skin in Nightmare. Up to Act 3 almost to Azmodan and haven't had too many issues. Some elite mobs are a pain but I get through it. I only really use it for bosses.

It's funny I can't remember my build but I know I have frost nova with the chance to improve damage after(something like that) the Force Wave one with improved damage rune, uhhh, the laser beam, what's it called disintegrate or something? I rune that with the split beam that does 40% weap dmg to addt'l targets. Blur, Glass Cannon and that Astral one.

I picked a few items last night and now I'm at like 4K dmg buffed. I use the magic weapon skill I think it's called with the improve damage rune.

Anyone else thing the Archon (sp?) mastery is pretty badass?

I tried using the Arcane Orb with improved damage, but it didn't suit me.

Archon is incredibly badass, and i thought it'd never leave my bar, until i did a 4-man group Act 4 nightmare last night, and i had to pickup Diamond Skin as my 3rd defense move so i would stop dying so much.

I also love Disintegrate + Chaos Nexus

Diamond skin is pretty tight.

For the people saying that the range classes are glass cannons past nightmare I find this to be the case, except it seems like most Barbs that I team up with end up dying more so than Wizard. Quite a few Wizards I have played with have awesome melee/tanking abilities.

Everything's a glass cannon in Inferno.

My party's Monk Tank has given up trying to "tank" anything in Act 3 Inferno now. He has beastly tanking stats and can still get 1 shot by certain things. It's kind of futile at this point to try to take damage.

Monks are indeed better tanks than Barbarians since they're very self sufficient with heals and resistance skills. In Act 1 Inferno, a monk tank is pretty useful. In Act 2 things get harrier. In Act 3 it seems any attempt to "tank" is useless now. Not sure what kind of gameplay Barbs and Monks will have to fall to now.

Absolutely moronic. I mean I understand Monks and Barbarians can DPS, well too, but to only be able to do that?

Blizzard just hotifixed Inferno. Apparently Damage reduction wasnt working correctly for melee classes. Monks and Barbs are doing much better now.

I just don't get this line of thinking. It just comes off as being impatient. It's like your trying to rush through to hell or inferno. Spoiler alert, it's suppose to be hard. You don't need the AH if you are patient. If you have to play hell a couple times to get certain drops in order to compete in inferno, well then thats what you gotta do. But if you're not up to that task then by all means take the easy way out and shop for what others have found on the AH. Thats how I see it. Jay Wilson is quoted as saying something like, "We made inferno as hard as we possibly could, and then doubled it amost to the point of unbeatable"
Well, I for one am definitely not rushing through. I have a 52 Monk and a 42 WD. If I had stayed with one I'd definitely have been 60 for awhile now. If you read further down I also mentioned I appreciate Inferno being as hard as it is, though maybe you quoted the wrong person.

Do you know how to increase the chance of drops? Play more and I know you haven't done this because it's been out for 1 week. If you're still complaining about this in a years time, then I'll concede to you that it's disproportionally implemented.
Don't know what you're asking in this first question. I've been comparing the drops to what drops were like in Diablo 2 though. When I said increase the drop rates of decent items and Legendaries, I meant increase them to how they were in Diablo 2. So by the end of Normal you'll have found multiple set items and Uniques, leading to a greater sense of accomplishment. Wouldn't work with the AH of course, though.

I actually stayed away from Diablo 3 with all the crap that I'd heard. I'm so glad I did.

The itemization issues make it clear the game is a joke. In Diablo 2, you were almost certain to get at least one good drop in every act on top of the drops from the bosses. The bosses almost always dropped a set, unique, or nice rare item. That's just playing through it normally without MF gear. Frostburns from my first HC Diablo kill? Nice.

These items weren't the most uber items in the world, but they were almost always upgrades. Heck, some of the items were used and traded for years. Sigon's set for example was always traded in Hardcore mode. It was good for twinking out new characters until you got them leveled up. Full sets traded well, even the lower level ones.

From what I'm reading, this kind of stuff is missing in D3.

It's "missing" because at its base, it's purely different.

Right now the itemization is more akin to Vanilla D2 when it came out. Useful/good boss drops are not missing, they just don't have green or golden text all the time.

The boss drops aren't an "issue"; it was a specific game design change. Rather than ignoring 95% of the game and just rushing up to the final 2-3 bosses, the elite blue packs now drop better gear. And IMO, with the randomised stats and ridiculous stuff they can do, it's more fun. Rather than knowing ahead of time exactly the boss abilities and just facerolling through the fight (Frozen OrbX20, teleportX2, repeat) you have to deal with some badass elite packs. You THEN can go get great drops from the boss with the stacking Nephalem Valor buff.

I think the plan was to increase replayability - hopefully that's the case. Also, in regards to those bitching about not being able to beat inferno within the first week - seriously? I think it's great that there is an insane difficulty level that will remain a challenge for quite some time, or even indefinitely. It isn't like they made Hell mode impossible - they added a whole new tier of difficulty, more bang for your buck.

You are missing out big time. Sure the legendary items that I've found (2) haven't been great, but good rare and magic items drop all the time. I don't really care if those items drop from level bosses or unique mobs - they are still dropping and the game itself is wonderful.

As a hardcore D2 player for many years, I can say with certainty that I would have been massively disappointed.

Now I don't have to be on the boards bitching for the next month until it gets patched.

Rofl you'd rather rely on forum banter than personal experiences when deciding if you'll like a game?
Way to go spectator mode 100%.

He can try the starter edition if he wants, but had i known the gear would be like this I might have waited for a couple patches myself. Still enjoying the game, but it'll be a shame if i get burnt out before a better gear system is implemented, if it ever happens :hopes:

I may or may not like the game. It doesn't matter. I've been playing a game that I really enjoy for the last 4 months and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.

All I was saying is that I had written D3 off months ago. I'm glad I did rather than sitting around waiting for it and then being disappointed.

I am not disappointed with the game. If anything I am more disappointed with the story in comparison to Diablo 2.

Feel a lot more confusing if you haven't read the books, which if you haven't you will think there are plot holes left and right.

I think the gameplay is awesome and vastly improved over D2.

i dont think ppl play diablo for the story haha. but yes the plot is pretty bad lol, same with all other new blizzard titles. old decent stories like sc/bw and wc3 are no longer existent.

^^ Agreed.

Yeah I won't soften it, but both SC2 and D3 have fairly average story writing (and dialogue can be cringe-worthy at times). That said, like with Mario games, game play is king. I've put about 30hrs into my DH so far (lvl52) and still haven't gotten to my other 4 characters. I guess we'll really see 1yr from now how it is. The addition of PvP should be a big one in the future. 1 year from now? Haha.

SC2 I thought had a decent story, but that is because the ending of Brood War was begging for a sequel.

D2...not so much. I guess there was the Worldstone at the end of D2, but honestly D3 has nothing to do with D2, even set 20 years later it still really doesn't explain anything other than just acknowledging D2 came before.

If you never read the Sin War books you would be lost!

Are you saying because of the itemization?

If so, then you were not a hardcore D2 player if you thought that uniques/legendaries were the "best" items in game.

I crafted and cubed far better rings (+2 necromancer skills, +2 amazon skill rings before they were fixed anyone?), amulets (20% faster cast, +1/2 all skills, +high dex, + all res) and rolled some of the very best rare circlets that USWest ever saw for necromancers.

If it's for other reasons then carry on :)

And what did you use in your other slots? Exactly.

There certainly were great rares, especially rings and amulets, but uniques were the best in almost every slot. Class and build were certianly a factor as well. My BO barb used Javs that weren't uniques.

Yeah I agree as others are saying. It is no where even remotely close to being on the level of not even getting the game. This is 100% your loss and I don't think anyone is going to care either.

I didn't ask anyone to care. I only stated that I was glad I didn't get it, and I get called out by everyone who has posted since.

I don't own the game, so I won't post in this thread anymore.

Engima in the chest (does this even count as a "unique"), Heart Of Oak (again, runeword)

Only uniques I had were my gloves (Magefist/Bloodfist/Frostburn) and my shield occasionally (storm shield or rhyme or the caster unique, can't recall the name now, Bone wall?)

Rare boots, crafted belt (cast speed + high recovery with other stats)

So two uniques and the rest rare/crafted. In D3 most people will probably have unique rings/amulets because they can have amazing stats. So 3 uniques and the rest rare/magical. Looks like D3 is an improvement!

Want to try again?

Don't knock on it until you try it.

Edit: The game isn't without it's flaws but as a successor to D2 I am pretty content. I do appreciate that it's no longer a huge level grind to be the best, my old PVP necro was at 98 or something though I did get my HC necro to lvl 99 after like...8 months.

nothin but <3 here

Also I don't understand the people bitching about the magical wpns > rares/uniques.

Did they all forget about the Cruel Hydra Bow of Evis or something back in D2's days before runewords??? Or any Cruel "Something" of Evis really.

I swear the game is full of wowtards who think unique/legendary = MUST BE BETTER.

Or the bitching about how the DPS on weapons is the only stat that matters, even though it was a huge favor to us. Before you had to use a calc to find out the damage based on the weapon dmg, attack speed, etc. You still have damage (i.e. 4 - 20, I'm still in normal, don't knock me ;) ), they just also show you what weapon does more damage over time. I might still go for a lower DPS if the weapon is faster, if you are putting out a lot more damage than necessary, it is better to hit more times.

a lot of people forget stuff

D2's skill system wasn't all that amazing until after the patch that added in synergies came out

And synergies were years after the release of LoD, not just D2.

A lot of the superior items in D2 Classic were rares, not uniques. I don't recall any set being worth wearing in Classic, either.

Angelics if you weren't a caster I believe....:p

New to the Diablo series and just starting NM so I gotta ask what you guys mean when you keep referring to a "set"?
I understand all these items
whites - pretty much junk
blue - magic
yellow - rare
orange - legendary
then all the gems for the different attributes.

There was Sigon's too now that I think about it, but neither were great outside of lower levels.

edit: Sets are Green items that have bonuses for wearing multiple items.

Greens. You'll start to see them I think at the end of NM (I've heard,.....I'm at the beginning of NM myself).

And they're exactly that, sets of armor that goes together for stat bonuses.

I still have yet to see one drop :(

look up Cain's set on the AH.

It seems like there are a few sets that are made from blacksmith plans. From what it looks like 1 plan drops for the whole set too, which is nice.

^This, I have seen people bitching on the D3 forums because they found a blue sword that does 850 DPS but a Legendary Sword only does 750 DPS. It's true, the blue sword has more damage, but the legendary has over 50 + to all stats, 10% increased attack speed, plus other random stats.

As many people have pointed out here, when you're in Inferno damage is not everything.
