Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

So I was so excited to buy a shield on the AH with 600 armor and around 50 int and vit. But as soon as it showed up in my box, it said "Demon Hunter only". I thought I had missed it so I went back to check. Sure enough, they don't show classic specific items under search. Anyone else notice this?

Are you searching by class, if not, why wouldn't you?

The, "Illusionist" mod on elite mobs is a real FPS killer.

I had something like 20 mobs from an elite pack rushing at me that all decided to use the illusionist mod at the same time. Four times 20 elite mobs on screen can bring even the most powerful of systems to a crawl. For someone who gets ~100FPS...being brought down to ~10FPS is quite noticeable.

Yeah. By default the class you have out is the one that it's filtered for. Either there's some kind of bug or he selected DH on the first drop-down box for some reason.

Just tried again. It seems that the issue was that it said my name and then (wizard). But that doesn't actually count. I had to manually switch it to just wizard to get it to filter that way.

I had everything on high, which is find for soloing. But playing multi always brings me to the 20's, so I turned everything on low to limit the fps drops.

Oh for the love of fuck 8 hours....What the hell are they doing to the servers that takes EIGHT HOURS!?

Not the same here. I get ~100FPS playing four player multi for the most part.

Specifically the Elite mobs with the, "Illusionist" mod *can* bring my FPS to a crawl.

Without searching for answers and from personal experience the illusionist mod on elite packs allows for every member of the rare and champion mob to spawn four times themselves.

So say you run into a group with both a champion and rare, both with the, "Illusionist" mod, then every mob, including the champion and rare, will be able to spawn four times themselves at any given moment.

Even worse is if elite mobs have additional mods such as arcane or jailer -- you're basically staring at a screen of a 100 enemies while they freeze you in place and drop sentries everywhere.

I have been able to overcome the challenge invariably each and every time. With that said...

The Illusionist mod is fairly b0rked.

Yeah this sucks...I got up to have a good two and a half hours of playtime before work (4am), but the "scheduled" maintenance was never mentioned when I went to bed around 11pm. Fucking boo.

What do you guys use prior to unlocking Force Armor at level ~46 on a Wizard for defensive purposes? I'm finding that I can get 2-shotted too quickly by champion mobs at times, and Energy Armor seems useless without that rune.

So from what I've been hearing is that DH, Wizard, and possibly monk are the only viable Inferno classes. I have a barb tank that does ok in Act 1 but for lulz I joined an Act 3 game and was one shotted by a trash mob. Repeatedly. I understand gearing up but when a couple classes have the abilities to survive while others don't....

Then add to the fact the account hacking is going on, lag spikes, and rubber banding it feels like Blizz is dropping the ball in a big way.

I made a barb too and got it to 60, but there's no way I'm even going to pass act 1 of inferno.

But oh well at least it was fun while it last. Going to reroll a wizard.

By the way what does everyone think of the item system? It honestly seems so stale in comparison to d2 and it doesn't excite me at all. I can't put my thoughts into words but I have been disappointed thus far.

Found my first legendary tonight. A helmet that was a little better than the rare I had recently bought on the AH.

I agree. I used to have lots of fun getting some good loot in d2 and could always count on the fact that I'd get something really worth it if I played some x amount of hours, but now those types of items seem really few and far between. I think disappointment about sums up my feelings. Haven't hit inferno yet, so I'm hoping it might pick up a bit around there.

Having a crapload of health helps. I've got 5 radiant amys and something like 25k hp.

My setup at 52 is all cold. Ice armor with slow rune, frost nova, meteor with comet rune, ice hydra, frozen beam with reduced cost as main attack and blizzard with reduced cool down as second.

Lots of kiting. Blizzard before aggro, throe ice hydra down, hit with frozen beam til they get close, them frost nova to freeze, throe blizzard and comet down, repeat as necessary, which is alot lol. But you can't hit what you can't catch. Having 5 radiant amys

Well I just dinged 60 before servers went down, just when I was about to start Hell Act IV. I'm hearing from the Blizzard forums that Inferno is like stupid hard. Like hard enough that very few players will make it past Act I. The bosses are doable, but its the elites/champions that makes the game interesting. Some guy even went far enough to say Inferno was broken as the elites/champions were un-killable for his toon. Do people really have this sense of entitlement over progression? I actually like the game being this hard, what fun is farming the toughest parts of the game?

Im Monk lvl 60 (obviously) starting Act III Inferno with two buddies of mine. Yes if you intend to survive longer than 5-10 seconds against any elite/champion/elemental-ist, it might be a good idea to:

a) remap your keybindings to something you can quickly get muscle memory for (as you will be smashing, kiting, reskilling on the fly), b) know your characters flaws and find a way to use group to diminish almost entirely, c) either be ALL tank or ALL kite, d) BE FUCKING PATIENT and know your shit.

That being said it is a very rewarding experience.

You clearly have no idea what it's like to work on servers. Shit takes a while, and always longer than expected, or you run out of time. Though Blizzard's probably pretty good about maintenance now with WoW.

Seriously they're working to resolve issues with the game and make it better, why are you bitching?

I'm pretty sure you've never played the game if this is seriously what you think.
Right. Because when I say good things about the game, I don't get criticized, but when I list a couple negative aspects that I do not enjoy, suddenly I've never played the game. I wasn't lying in what I said either. You are mostly likely going to need to buy items on the AH to survive in Hell mode, and you definitely will need to buy them to survive in Inferno. This is obviously what Blizzard intended, but I just dislike that system. I wish they would have increased the chance of decent drops and the chance of Legendaries with the removal of the Auction House. But then they couldn't profit from the RMAH. If you have a counter-argument, that's fine but claiming I haven't played the game if this is what I think is a cheap way out.

A few pages back a few of us discussed our qualms with it, and what we says pretty much lines up with your opinion. The stats are stale (dex, vit, int, zzz..), and in order to survive, you pretty much have to depend on others finding items for you (AH). It was so much more rewarding finding a sweet item drop on your own rather than seeing one for a good price in the AH (IMO).

So nobody tries to bite my dick off like AceCR42 tried to do, yes I enjoy the game and the itemization/AH are pretty much my only irritations. No complaints about Inferno difficulty as it gives us something to work up to and it'll be easier as we slowly gain better loot. Now I need to hurry up and get home from work so I can play. :D

Yeah this is pretty true. Not sure what they were thinking with the item system. I'm still having fun though. Working my way through Act 3 of nightmare as a Wizard and most of what I'm doing now is just getting gold, selling items, to buy better items.

Definitely enjoying the wizard a lot too.

So last night I joined a friend's game in Hell mode (I'm only lvl 42 in nightmare Act II) and WOW is that a great way to farm gold/items to help you through the harder modes. We did a few runs of Azmodan + the mini-diablo guy at the beginning of heaven and I gained three lvls, lots of rare items, and shitloads of gold. We did it probably three or four times.

I'm stuck at the final boss of Act IV Hell atm. I really think I'll have to go all out defense on this one. So close to unlocking Inferno!

Does anyone know if the pony lvl is a worthwhile place to farm for xp/gold/items? or better to hit the bosses?

Unfortunately, this game is quite different from D2. I dont think there are necessarily specific exp/farm places.

With that said, the further act you go in the game the higher gear you get so it might be worthwhile to do so in the later acts somewhere....

Because people work part-time jobs or other equally uninteresting jobs, and need their fix due to lack of other hobbies. Or no job, that too.

On a more related note, I was a heavy supporter of how great the game was, in Normal, and early Nightmare, playing with a friend of course. Now that I'm reading pages and pages of stuff from all of you and everywhere else, plus seeing it with my own eyes, I'm seeing a very flawed game. It's got it's fun moments, don't get me wrong, I intend on continuing to play it until I beat Inferno and get all the best gear, but the way the loot works and all the other issues, it makes me kind of sad. I find myself only wanting to log in if my friends are going to be playing, if one of them is doing a solo run at the moment, or if one isn't on, I'm right off to play something on Steam, or just go to bed all together. Just don't like playing it alone. :(

I hope they can fix some of the issues the game has down the road. I also hate their join game system.

Its almost impossible now to play with 4 people coop. Almost always you are joining the game with 1 other person. Its kind of dumb.

Their item mod system leaves a lot of be desired as well. Ive never seen such a poorly designed item system. Their legendary items arnt even unique really. No runewords. No special items. Nothing ever drops beyond the level you are playing at.... Gems take up an affix slot instead of being an added slot to rolled affixs. I could go on for a long time.

I just hope they can fix and improve some of this because I do see some of the complaints some have.

Because it's annoying as hell to not be able to play such a long time? As for Blizzard's experience with WoW? Yeah really horrible example. In the time I played WoW I can't recall a single time they were right about when servers would be back up.

You don't notice the complaints people have until you're well into the game and have seen it first hand. It stinks. Legendary's are anything but, rare's are worse than magic items, and magic items are all over the place. Strength bows? Not as bad as Spirit/agi gear in WoW I suppose.

On another side note, I still see 'magic' quality items as a blue/purple mix for the text color. Tested it on multiple monitors. It's my eyes.

I just don't get this line of thinking. It just comes off as being impatient. It's like your trying to rush through to hell or inferno. Spoiler alert, it's suppose to be hard. You don't need the AH if you are patient. If you have to play hell a couple times to get certain drops in order to compete in inferno, well then thats what you gotta do. But if you're not up to that task then by all means take the easy way out and shop for what others have found on the AH. Thats how I see it. Jay Wilson is quoted as saying something like, "We made inferno as hard as we possibly could, and then doubled it amost to the point of unbeatable"

But I do admit, the item system could use some tweaking. Is it perfect? No, what is. It's is completely useless?

I wish they would have increased the chance of decent drops and the chance of Legendaries
Do you know how to increase the chance of drops? Play more and I know you haven't done this because it's been out for 1 week. If you're still complaining about this in a years time, then I'll concede to you that it's disproportionally implemented.

Does anyone know if the pony lvl is a worthwhile place to farm for xp/gold/items? or better to hit the bosses?

I don't really think so. It's kind of just an easter egg and less of a farming place. The whole area only has about 3 champion/elite packs at most.

And they did maintenance every Tuesday on WOW's servers IRC... maybe we'll see something like this for D3 at least for a little bit.
