Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Just wanted to say, I played and it beat it on normal.

It's a pretty good game. But the drive to play is less than I wanted. Halfway through Act 3 I got bored. It was still cool, but it just didn't seem as fun. And Act 4 was a disappointment in many ways.

beat the game on normal as a witch doctor, lvl 33 at the end. i doubt i will play through again on nightmare

Got to 56 today as WD, then I logged later tonight and found out that my account got hacked :(
Anyways, its been fun co oping with friends. The fights gets pretty hard and intense after NM. The lags are subsiding. I don't see why people are so critical about it, but then thats just my 2cent.

I would give my left nut to play this game. Thanks Blizz for the always online butt jamming!:p

I for one had very high hopes for the game, and fought in it's favor tooth and nail. I have enjoyed it, and finished the game with two classes at this point, almost a third. However, I do have some problems with it, and it has mainly to do with content.

The game feels under developed toward the end, the first two acts feel far more thought out and detailed. There's a far greater amount of dungeons and events that add variety and flavor to the first two acts that don't exist or exist sparingly in third and forth.

Let's look at the beginning of Act 1, with the Jar of Souls event and Countess Event. Whenever you'd enter the tombs in Act 1, you had a chance of getting either of those random events and during the beta, they were two of most fun random content scenarios a player could run across. It was randomized events and quests that had me thinking Diablo 3 was going to be a very dynamic game that had a lot of unique fights and mini quests that would pop up in such a variety that playing through the game on multiple occasions would give me a bevy of new experiences. Much to my dismay, events seem few and far between, and they became generic and without any quality context like the Jar of Souls. Secondly, with the amount of NPCs in the game, you'd figure there would be some additional quests along the way to your ultimate goal. Instead of flooding each city with additional merchants, where are my additional quests? Why am I not saving a farm girl from a cave along my journey? Where is the additional content that may not add directly to story, but add to my character's renown? I was really hoping for a deep level of side missions, rather than just going into a random cave or area just to get open a large chest and fight a pack of monsters, that's all fun an good but give me some type of context to impel me to journey into said random cave or dungeon. With the amount of time this game was in development, it seems like there should have been much, much more dynamic content that presents it's differently on each play through, rather than just a randomized cave.

Also, the gear(and I can only speak up to level 36) seems repetitive and boring. What happened to set items at lower levels? Where are my Fetlocks? Where is Sigon's set? What about low level uniques that people would thrive on for short periods of time to get future characters moving? Secondly, and this probably has to do more with design of the gear than anything else, the progression is really dull. If said gear has a higher percentage of stats than my previous gear(higher dex, vit, ect) then I move in that direction in a very linear fashion. It seems like specificity of loot is almost completely gone because the affixes and stats are generic and only move you in one direction. I'm for the new skill and stat system, but if it waters down loot to such a generic degree that item progression feels as linear as the game play, it removes a lot of fun from the game.

I know that was poorly written rant and I'm sure a lot of it has been said before, and I am over all enjoying the game play, I just expected a hell of a lot more from a game with this amount of development time behind it.

***** SPOILERS ******
P.S. Also the story is total garbage, and the voice acting is near cringe worthy for the most part. I find the interactions between the followers and your character to be the most entertaining. All of the dialogue with Azmodan is absolutely horrid. E.G. "BAHAHA You may have taken out my siege weapons but my army is enormous and never ending, you will fail nephalem!" And he just keeps basically saying the same thing over and over again. Secondly, I thought the lord of lies was an enormous disappointment. I expected him to make me follow nefarious paths, maybe beguile me into killing someone important to the cause for saving humanity, use treachery or trickery. I mean come on, how awesome would it have been if he corrupted your mind for a moment and instead of killing a demon you mistaken killed Cain, rather than having some fairy woman kill him in the most anticlimactic unceremonious way possible.

I know people are going to think that I hate the game after writing all of this, but I don't, I'm going to continue playing it because at it's core , the game play,it's still fun. But I think some elements are missing from making it over all a great game from just a good one.

For a game that has spent so long in development, it does feel incredibly unfinished. I find it hard to believe that Blizzard even held a lengthy closed beta - did the participants point out the glaring problems with items at all? Or was it just a huge "this game rocks we love Blizzard" circle-jerk?

I have a strong feeling there was plenty of that.

I was in the beta from the start, the problem was the content was so limited you couldn't really surmise what the rest of the game would be like. Especially not the generic loot, from the perspective of a person who really enjoyed the start of the game, I thought it was going to be great and hugely diverse. Not just in gear, but in content as well. The first time I hit the Jar of Soul during the beta was one of most memorable moments I had had in gaming until that point. But the rest of the game just didn't quite pan out that way.

I'm starting to remember all of the weird, cool affixes you could get in Diablo 2 that just aren't there any more, chance to pierce, cannot be froze, freeze on hit(whirlwind pike barbs with armor that freezes enemies), crushing blow, ect. It's a shame the gear is so generic, I really hope the system gets hugely modified in future patches.

As a side not, I bet they're someone dismayed by the way the economy is going. High DPS items are so common, and the stats on all of items are so similar I doubt anyone will bother paying real money for anything. Gold already has very little value, and the auction house is being inundated with high level items. Considering the lack of rarity of gold and of quality items, there's no way anything will have any REAL value.

Diablo 3: Lord of Server Restarts

p.s.

I'm scrapping my monk and barb, rolling a wizard to farm gear for my melee chars.

I do wish there was a way to cancel an auction you post (as long as nobody has bid for it)...I priced something too high accidentally and now it will languish for a couple of days before I can change it :(

I was in the beta for a long time. the problem with the items was that the beta was capped at lvl 13, and only took the player to the skeleton king. On Normal. So the slice was so small that the issue never really came up. The spectrum of items in that 1-2 hour period is good enough it didn't appear.

I'm somewhat disappointed by some things that people have already mentioned.

1. The story, D1 and D2 were very serious and those games just felt evil. D3 seems like it's Diablo in the Warcraft Universe. Terrible trying to be funny (but not) dialogue. Animations seem cartooney sometimes (especially barbarian running). The game art style is more like a painting than a dark fantasy world in D3.

2. As Decko87 said, affixed like cold/freezing your character, poison, etc. Really dumbed down in D3.

3. Unlimited Town Portals...seriously?

4. D2 was (I thought) incredibly hard. I've only died in D3 because of stupid decisions on my part.

However, the combat/gameplay is much better IMO in D3.

The beta ended as soon as you killed the Skeleton King in act 1... ~1 hour of content. Finding higher level items wasn't really possible.

I sadly haven't logged in at all yesterday, and the 'itch' to log in hasn't hit me yet, even while sitting with my laptop infront of the TV looking at the icon. I then booted up BF3 and played for an hour before heading to sleep. This morning, still nothing.

Oh well, Max Payne 3 in a week's time.

It's completely and utterly unacceptable for a Blizzard game. There's so many things that make you feel like it's unfinished and rushed, which is an amazing fucking thing considering it's been in development for so long. The items aren't creative at all and every skill is based on weapon damage which makes the blues better than legendaries right now. So many things are dumb about this game. The auction house is messed up in almost every way possile, it lags, items disappear, gold disappears. WoW models/animations being reused in D3. Duping issues, issues where people can put 2h weapons in 1 hand, you can skip acts, classes are completely imbalanced in inferno, melee chars aren't viable passed act 2 inferno at all, etc etc.

BLIZZARDS ANTI-CHEAT SYSTEM WARDEN ISN'T EVEN IN THE GAME

It is glorious seeing Blizzard's reputation unravel though. I feel like I was a part of watching a company grow up and blossom into a flower and now it's shriveling up and dying.

Yes, I'm still on Normal. I was also talking about D2 on Normal difficulty.

oh ok. Yeah I mean, I really didn't think D2 was any harder. In fact, as you go up in difficulty, I think D3 is harder. Mainly because you can't just spam potions and abuse the TP.

I don't know why having to carry around town portal tomes is a good thing. Lost me there. The old TP was also abusive.

This difficulty thing has been brought up so many times. The answer is: get the heck out of normal. Hey, while you're at it, nightmare and hell are cake walks too compared to inferno. This difficulty comment is seriously baffling right after people beat normal. It's called normal for a reason. My grandmother's supposed to be able to beat it.

Well that's true about potions and the TP...which is cheap.

However, at least D2 had limited town portals...this just seems like dumbing down (like most of the game). I do enjoy it quite a bit, but some things are pretty disappointing.

Yea, but you also can't log into D2, charge up an ability and get "MIGHTY BLOW! You have slain 21 enemies in a single hit" text spamming across your screen constantly.

I think you're seriously the only person that misses having to buy TP scrolls.

If people are not getting into it because the game is too easy, they need to grin and bear it for 30+ hours of grind to get to the real game?

I do like the skill change to where you can use what you want. I think leveling those specific skills should've (or should) be added to that.

Attribute points should have been left the same. Maybe recommendations when you level or a choice to automatically assign points would've been better than taking that choice out totally.

Probably haha. I just think how they integrated it in D3 is silly.

I thought when I tried the beta that it was a one time thing after you beat a boss (which is a good idea). After trying the full game, I realize that it's just a spell you learn.

If anyone is serious about D3 like they were with D2 (btw all the complainers are the ones that poured hundreds if not thousands of hours into D2 comparing the two), then 30 hours is pretty much nothing in the grand scheme of things.

If they don't care enough to get a single character through the difficulty levels, then Diablo isn't really a game genre for them to be very honest. They're better off getting faster gratification from other modern games that end in 5 hours.

Holy shit, Diablo 3 has already sold 6.3 million copies! Maybe publishers/developers will take this as a sign to stop treating the PC platform as a red headed step child.

They will also probably take this as a sign that always-online DRM equals billions of $$$.

Or a sign that if it has the Blizzard logo on it, it'll sell, no matter if the game is poop or amazing. (I love Blizzard games, for the record, just saying).

Inferno is no joke. Been trying to solo through it a bit and practice taking on those champion packs. Then they went and nerfed the monk 15% damage shield. That didn't take long.

QFT!

Although as it stands now, the game is already getting stale. For some reason it just does not have that staying feel that D2 did.

I've been ripping through Inferno Act I on my DH, killing every champion pack I see, its not that difficult, its more or less tedious. I have a feeling my build will be nerfed too :(.

That is something to worry about. No doubt many will believe this rather than the reality that people are prepared to put up with bullshit DRM schemes, and even rabidly defend them, if the underlying game itself is worthy of playing in spite of DRM.

SS was ninja nerfed because of nightstalker.

Blizzard dropped the ball on that one. Nightstalker + crit stacking made SS too powerful. Let's nerf the base SS skill rendering all SS runes useless except for the duration one which is now 100% necessary to make the skill worth anything.

Really? I loved D1 and D2 and I didn't go past normal. I can't see how you could honestly say it's not a game for me when those two clearly were.

QFT! A generic zombie from Act 1 will drop a level 42 demon hunter with one hit on Inferno difficulty! :D

When did nerf it? I was playing last night and really didnt notice any difference.

This morning apparently. Still at work, so I wouldn't be able to test it. The tooltip apparently now says 1s (2s with the rune) to reflect the change.

Garbage.
