Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Dammit we were doing so well in this thread.

Days since last pointless and already covered argument d3 post: 0
:(

It's like an ex-girlfriend you dumped half a year ago still shitting on your Facebook wall. Get over it and move on.

Back on topic. I'm thinking act 1 might be the best for loot farming. Overall enemy density might not be as high as act 3 for exp, but a leorics manor to butcher might have a higher elite count (and no stupid phase beasts). I won't have time to really dive in until almost November, but I'll have to hit the chats to really find the best spot.

Also, mp makes HC much more appealing for me, as no monster power looks to be a cakewalk and I do eventually want to clear all classes in sc and hc through inferno.

This part is funny. I don't think Blizzard gave 2 shits about TL2 and it likely didn't play a factor into ANYTHING blizzard did or does. TL2 while a great game is has nothing on D3.

This is like saying the Superbowl aired when it did because they didn't want to be impacted by the World Cup.

Sales of TL2 even at $20 are a fraction of D3....Active Players of TL2 are likely also not even a fraction of D3's. They just aren't in the same ball park at all. Apples and Oranges completely.

Even if Blizzard waited to until PVP to launch D3 people like yourself would still be bitching and complaining because the game is still the same fundamentally and its the fundamentals of the game that most people have an issue with i.e RMAH and no character development.

No then it would have had some sorts of nice end game to go with the pretty visuals while leveling up. When they launched it was more like "Why am I being forced to play the game 3 times before I get to the meat and potatoes of it." Then I got to Inferno and realized why they hid it under three pointless previous playthroughs.

I was just trying to say that in hindsight that they should have worked on what they're known to be really good at; Games and Game play. If they wanted to tack on a RMAH 5 months later then cool. But make darn sure that the game has all the features at launch to make it great.

In my opinion and I fully realize it's my opinion and not everyone else's, the stuff they are doing now would have made my experience in D3 much more enjoyable than making sure that the RMAH was secure and working. I haven't seen one post complaining that the RMAH is down in all of these posts in this thread. Just saying. :)

Gaming is a business first. Auction House was a pretty important part of D3 for blizzard, and they are the first company to do it this successfully.

Much of the changes needed for d3 required a mass end user testing. I would of rather had Blizzard launch the game now iron out bugs while I get to play then hold off launch for another year while they fine tune ever little minor detail.

Your opinions are valid......Its just that the past 200 pages are filled with the same opinion, and much of it is mingled with blind ignorance and meaningless hatred.......So you are just unfortunately the lucky 300th person to express this short sighted opinion.

That second part is debatable...

Yes and so is evolution.....and just like the evolution debate one side will reference logical and reasonable conclusions and the other side will type in ALL CAPS to get more attention.

I agree with you 100% and thank you. :)

Going to break out my DH first for old times sake with the 1.05 patch. Trying hard to convince my nephew that he would have fun pulling and running through mobs on his Barbarian if he had more than 100 resist all. He seems to think LoH is going to keep him alive. They need to add in additional achievements for rezzing people in a group. As hardheaded as he is I'd get it in no time.

Don't you play a Monk Stevedave? I know I could just Google it, but I like hearing straight from players that I trust. Did you when starting out stack one resist and use the talent that brings all your resists up to match that one or did you just go for the gusto and get the expensive stuff off the AH? Lately it doesn't seem so bad on the AH, but I was taught to be as cheap as possible as long as you're happy with the results. As long as I can "monk" around to Act 3 Inferno I'd be happy. I actually was owning things in Act 3 when a friend opened a game for me, but I decided that I'd rather just play through like a normal person would. Plus my nephew wouldn't last 10 seconds and would want to come.

Except Evolution understands when to cast aside "mutations" that don't benefit the species. Blizzard will attempt to stretch the RMAH across many of its games now since its become a success in D3.

I'm sorry but I see the RMAH as a failure for consumers , some of it is attainable to the average player but much of it is priced so high as to be beyond access unless you have very deep pockets.

Where I'm at with my WD , my only upgrade is a very expensive version of Skorn that costs almost 160 Million gold or $80+ dollars. For one item? That's insane.

But your saying the AH is a success. I'd like to know how so as certainly most gamers I talk too don't want or need it, the trading part not withstanding...and I've never read good comments about it other than paid for reviews.

From a technical standpoint developing the RMAH is not a hard thing to develop, relative to game programming. It's not a trivial process, but I can assure you it doesn't take an entire game development team to hash out the product. It's a silly assumption that cgi artists, sound developer, environment artists, played any part of it. In fact, I'd assume most of the development of the RMAH was done by a team seperate from the game development, considering its bnet money, not just D3 currency. I'm thinking the team that develops and maintains the subscriptions for WoW (not the ingame ah) are better suited than any game programmer, and those guys probably don't touch a line of code in the gameplay of wow either. They're not better or worse developers, but when it comes to real money, it's a different beast.

Coming as a developer in the financial world, I can tell you the development of the software capable of a RMAH is much easier than being legally allowed to do it.

From the producer viewpoint it was definitely a success.

What sort of witchdoctor are you doing? I've played around with the instant zombie dog/sacrifice build and that's fun as hell, but it gets expensive to get the Homunculus and other gear to get the cooldown to zero.

Agreed, I used to go to school with a programmer for Wachovia and he used to tell our class about what he worked on that night before he came to class. That's why I was wondering what took them so long to get the game out to consumers. Blizzard is a large company and certainly had a decade to work on the game. I don't want to say they were clueless about consumer sentiment at launch and these patches are the results of us 'Beta testing". I'd like to live in a world where one of my favorite developers gets it right the first time everytime. :)

That's why I said they must have been really scared of a breach of the RMAH to delay the game so much since the thing they seemed to be focused on was the RMAH at launch. Of course what I said is pure speculation on my part to keep a conversation going until the game goes live.

Oh the big question for everyone is...

Are we there yet? How much longer? Ha ha!

I can't survive act 3 with my monk. I found a Stone of Jordan with Spirit Regen while playing my wizard so I built a Spirit Regen monk. I didn't focus anything on any one res at all until I hit act 3 and started getting smoked. I picked up a few fire res pieces for like 100,000 each and tried to survive in act 3 and still couldn't because of my spirit regen gear also hurts my defense and offense.

From my experience an Act 3 monk is the most expensive character and there is no easy way to do act 3 with them.........although I'm hoping this changes with 1.0.5's decrees in damage so I can turbo monk the shit out of act 3.

I honestly play differently than most people. I enjoy playing this game for more than loot or best builds for efficiency. So I built a turbo monk to blast through the game with 34% movement speed + 25 % from Tempest rush. I have never been one to find the "best" build and just do that. I play the builds I find the most fun even if they are not the best. Its fun as hell to just mow down people in act 1 with a near endless supply of spirit which is the ENTIRE reason I built and play my monk...............So in short advice from me about a good build is not the best idea.

And lastly I have absolutely no problems spending real money on gear. If 20 bucks will allow me to play my character in a different manor for a few hours its completely worth it to me.

but if I were to give advice about a monk I'd say Identify the BEST piece of gear you can get or find with All res and another res. And build around that. But make sure you the best you are willing to afford.

One of my monk friends built his electric monk because he found a semi ok Electric ring and he went and regeared his entire monk for electricity and a few hours later found an even better ring with Fire Res..........So the better 1 piece of gear you get the less likely you are to find another piece of gear that makes you switch.

That's similar to why I like my wizard, eternal archon mode. I love the feeling of rounding a corner and seeing a pile of enemies, then one second later seeing a pile of dead enemies.

I was playing my DH and found some really nice pants and decided to level the Wizard. :)

I'm all about alternative builds even if I get called noob as I honestly believe the developers know what they have added to the game and why. So the skills that aren't optimal should still work and give me enjoyment if they also fit my playstyle.

Last night I grabbed the skill that stuns elites just to try it in Inferno. Can't remember the secondary skill I used with it though. Combining it with the aoe death grip I could stun the elites, run to safety, then pull them to me so I didn't get death gripped back into the fire. Of course it's probably not optimal, but it sure is fun! Turning the tables on death is always fun. :)

By the AH is a success I simply mean it works and works well.

I'm sure saying building the auction house was simple is an over simplification. Yeah sure I can program an auction house system. But that doesn't mean that just because I can program an auction system that Blizzards auction system was simple to make. We don't know the ends and outs of it.

and even it if is extremely simple it doesn't change the fact that Blizzard is the first company to pull it off. Its a pretty significant gaming feat that will likely have historical relevance in the future.

Now in terms of Public Relation and reputation management them creating a real money auction house was a shit storm for them as easily argued on whether or not it was successful.

I like the auction house. I remember spending at least 1000 hours crafting runes to get 1 Zod rune......Then realizing I just wasted an ass load of time for breath of dying when I could of just went online and bought it from a shady website for 1 buck.......Now that shady website is blizzard.

Blizzard saw a demand and provided a supply.............and I'm quite certain that in D2 the top players all used external sites to buy gear, runes, and what not.

Good News! Maintenance has been extended by 2 hours today!

hahaha Hilarious. I'm stealing this for the next project I have that goes over time.....which is pretty much most of them.

Having been in the software and hardware world Maintenance delays are pretty much common place now.......I know Value is also known for their "valve time" releases its even in wikipedia so you know its a big deal.

Except you've outlined the core problem with it... their $250 cap. I decked out a Sorc once for 5 dollars. 5 bucks won't even get you one piece of BiS gear in D3.

I sold a level 30 legendary ring that was pure crap for $3 and bought a $1.50 Maximus for my Enchantress for the lulz. :)

An SOJ could easily gear out an entire new Act3-capable monk from the proceeds. Trying to use one on an otherwise ungeared character is pretty much a waste.

Well I don't have much frame of reference here because I literally bought my first Items in D2 a couple of months before D3 was released and they were probably dirt cheap because D2 is 10 years old a this point. I bet good Items were pretty expensive when D2 was in its prime.....granted not as high as D3 though.

Blizzard has to set a cap or they will get their asses sued so fast. Imagine no cap and some douche spends 10,000 grand on an item then throws a hissy fit further tarnishing blizzards rep.......I hope they don't up the 250 cap either allowing people to sell items at their gold value will just up the price more.

Lastly you can still go to external sites blizzard can't do anything to stop that......That includes hardcore players too......blizzard doesn't set the prices.

#1 Barb Chest in the world (HC) for sale. $1000 :D

Blizzard should have helped keep things under control, imo, by setting the cap at something more reasonable, say $20.

Well he's not otherwise ungeared......He's just not defensive enough for act 3. And your missing the main point which is I want a turbo monk, he's fun. I don't want the standard best build monk or I would sell the SOJ and get bester gear.

I have years and years of this game ahead of me so I have no reason to rush gearing my character I'll just use my highly geared wizard to gear my other 4 classes and then some....sure it might take a year....but I should have a year to spend. assuming the game stays fun that long.

see:

Let bis items go for 1000 for all I care. It is definately not necessary to spend a dime to clear inferno or be act 3 farming worthy. That statement was true in 1.0.4 and even easier considering act 3 in 1.0.4 is harder than monster power 2.

With all the buffs to drops and roll potential, a farming set keeps getting cheaper to get.

Blizzard should have helped keep things under control, imo, by setting the cap at something more reasonable, say $20.

then they'd also have to set a cap in the gold auction house as well...or not sell gold on the RMAH. Setting a gold cap would be difficult because the value of gold per dollar varies. If they didn't have a gold cap nobody would sell good items on the RMAH they'd only sell it for gold then convert the gold to cash.... effectively rendering the $20 cap useless.

I was thinking you thought they shouldn't of capped it all....Not that you thought the cap should be smaller.

Some people want to spend money on items......and More people want to make money on items I see no reason why their should be a cap.....aside from stupid people who would accidentally spend thousands and then expect a refund.

Newegg should keep prices of high end video cards under control. They need to cap the price to something reasonable, say $100.
Valve should set a cap on all their games to something more reasonable, say $30.

Blizzard isn't controlling the prices, the free market is. People will pay for those things at that price, why stop them. The only reason they even set the cap was for legal reasons, not as a way to control the economy.

I won't disagree with you, you're right (even though the production cost of a diablo 3 item is $0). I just think there's something wrong with the way it is set up. No way should it cost upwards of $3000 to get full BiS for a character.

I'd be curious to see what the market would be like if they actually stopped botters. Maybe that's the real issue--inflation. Or someething. I just feel they did a shit job with this game's economy. I expected it to feel more like WoW's economy, but it couldn't feel further from that.
