Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

No item in a game like this is worth $25 especially when you're not completely sure what you're getting.

My entire gear setup was maybe 15 million and I can kill diablo with my eyes closed on inferno, and I'm a monk.

You're going to spend a significant amount of money for a game you've beaten ten times before, that is now about to get more difficult without adding anymore content? Why would anyone do that?

If I was rich I wouldn't out of principle, only reason I keep playing is to make money period. I could maybe understand if pvp was an option but who knows if they'll make special pvp gear like they did in wow to get us to spend even more money.

You can't even flaunt around in a place like orgrimmar in wow so wtf is the point?

playing hc makes my argument even more valid, if it was sc he could be selling that money for $25, and not risk everything by getting dc'd.

I'm all for hardcore but not when I could lose everything through no fault of my own. I have no respect for anyone who puts that much time into something that could be crushed in an instant through server lag or crashing.

How much money are you making from D3? Is $25 a lot of money for you?

The rates are close to 2million per 1 dollar now. Unless you're constantly making at least 20million an hour, you could make more money working minimum wage at McDonalds,

Got a question. Nephew and I did the final push to level 60 in D3 last night on a Barbarian for him and a Monk for me. He was level 50 and I was level 54 when we started. I tanked the entire run as he was wearing level 35 - 44 items. Only one of his items had + exp on it. Some amount like +2; nothing significant.

When he dinged 60 I still had 1/2 bar to go. What made him outlevel me so fast? When I started playing with him a couple weeks ago he was level 32 and I was 50. When I dinged level 51 he dinged 49. He had tons of magic find and + exp gear at the time but sold it all for 2 million and bought straight dps gear for the final push to 60.

I died once when I literally fell asleep tanking in desecration. Otherwise I spent the majority of my time rezzing him and tanking as his bedtime is usually 9pm and we concluded at 6am just in time for him to get his kids ready for school. Does +2 exp really make that big of a difference in the game? He had 0% magic find and I had around 100% yet he found multitudes more rare gear than I. Same thing happens when I team up with any of my other friends and call out when we get rares.

Is it possible that my client isn't talking to the server properly so I'm not getting loot and experience? Just puzzled as to what happened. :)

Honestly I feel like this kind of stuff is explained rather easily. Its more than likely just a matter of perception. When you're not getting all teh lootz, you think everyone else around you is scoring so much more. If you want to be accurate and achieve a completely unbiased observation, well then you prob need to write and record all the data and analyze it after your gameplay.

If he had a ruby in his helmet that is what did it. Also he is probably getting every kill, which I think you get more EXP for getting the kill.

My nephew would drop his loot on the ground so we could ID it and see if something was an upgrade for either of us. So I could clearly see what he was collecting in relation to what I was collecting. I was just wondering that if someone else had heard of the this happening to other people who play D3 as I only keep up with current events posted in this thread. Thx Rdzona for responding though.

I chose his gear setup for him a couple weeks ago and I don't remember if he had an exp gem in his helm or not. I'll ask him tonight, but I suspect he probably sold the low level helm already. What you're saying does make sense as his levels from 32 - 49 would go quicker than me going from 50 - 51 and an exp gem in the helm would hasten it tremendously.

Also I had to start helping him in Act 1 Nightmare difficulty and played straight through into Hell difficulty. Since I was already 50, I probably wasn't getting anything close to what he was getting as far as exp goes for those kills. So it makes sense. I'll interrogate him tonight to see what he was wearing from 50 - 60 as I'm sure he's swapped it out or sold it after we hit 60.

Patch most likely hits tomorrow.

Diablofans.com summarizes all of 1.0.5 in its most recent post. Nothing new compared to the retail site, but I find it easier to digest the way they sum it all up.

If you have any questions about 1.0.5, go there first. There are some pretty sweeping changes.

This would be excellent.

Truth be told, though, I'm balls deep in some X-COM, and holy shit is that game addictive. Not sure i'll have time for Diablo yet.

I'm in the same boat. I'm on the last mission on normal, and I plan on an impossible run next (not ironman though). Between xcom and bl2 dlc, d3 is a distant 3rd.

Going to skip classic and go straight to impossible? Hardcore man.

I really want to do a classic ironman mode. I abuse quicksave too much... i think i need to be forced to accept my losses =P

Blizz just took a tad too long with this patch here. If it had popped a week or 2 ago, i woulda been on it like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Yay, have only been playing on the PTR for a couple of weeks... Glad it's going 'live'...

I'm so glad the patch is tomorrow.

It would be a good time for all you guys to switch to HC ;)

Just to update with their latest blog

New Event: The Infernal Machine

Ready for a double dose of diabolical danger? In patch 1.0.5, level 60 players will be able to forge a cursed construct called the Infernal Machine, allowing them to battle "uber" versions of some of the most malevolent mischief-makers this side of New Tristram…in pairs. While the rewards for defeating these extra-bad bosses will be great, some assembly is required. Read on to find out how to craft the Infernal Machine, where it can be used, and what epic rewards await those brave enough to unlock its secrets.

The Components

To craft the Infernal Machine, players will first need to collect four components from powerful Keywardens in each Act of Inferno:

The Key of Destruction will drop from Odeg the Keywarden in Act I - Fields of Misery
The Key of Hate will drop from Sokahr the Keywarden in Act II - Dahlgur Oasis
The Key of Terror will drop from Xah'Rith the Keywarden in Act III - Stonefort
The Infernal Machine Blacksmithing Plans will drop from Nekarat the Keywarden in Act IV - Silver Spire Level 1
Each component will be considered “Bind on Account,” meaning they can be used by any character on your Battle.net account.

Players will be able to encounter the Keywardens in any difficulty, but only in Inferno and with a full five stacks of Nephalem Valor will they have a chance to drop pieces of the Infernal Machine. While Monster Power is not required, each level will increase the drop rate of both the keys and the plans by 10%, all the way up to a guaranteed 100% drop chance at Monster Power 10.

The Device

After all the components have been collected, they can be assembled in town at the Blacksmith. Your Blacksmith will need to be level 10 in order to learn the Legendary plans, and he'll require 12,000 gold to forge the device in his furnaces.

Once crafted, the Infernal Machine will remain in your inventory until activated. Once assembled, the powers of the Infernal Machine can only be unleashed in one location -- a cellar in New Tristram known simply as the Heretic's Abode. To activate the device, enter the cellar (located just behind Brother Malachi the Healer) and right-click the item in your inventory. This will summon an ominous red portal that will lead you to a demonic realm where you'll be pitted against a pair of Sanctuary's most nefarious villains.

In order to access the Heretic's Abode, players will need to set their quests to "Act I – Return to Tristram." Activating the Infernal Machine will also destroy it, so to open another portal, you must craft the device anew. This process will include recollecting each of the three wardens' keys as well paying another 12,000 gold to the Blacksmith. (Don't worry about the plans -- once you've trained your Blacksmith, they will remain available in your crafting list for use at any time.)

The Bosses

Those brave enough to step through the Infernal Machine's ominous output will be transported to one of three randomly selected Realms of Pure Evil, where a predetermined pair of bosses awaits:

In the Realm of Discord, King Leoric and Maghda guard the Royal Crypts.
In the Realm of Chaos, Ghom and Rakanoth defend the Larder.
Finally, in the Realm of Turmoil, Siege Breaker and Zoltun Kulle protect the Edge of the Abyss.
In terms of difficulty, the encounters will be about as challenging as the Diablo fight in Inferno, and each "uber" boss will retain their full arsenal of base spells and abilities. Many of the abilities are more powerful, and certain bosses have even come up with new tricks to test those who dare to enter their domain.

If you happen to fall while battling one these Infernal foes, don't worry -- as long as you don't leave your game session, you can release and restart the encounter at any time by clicking on the very same portal you created. Similarly, even after both bosses have been slain, your portal will remain active in the Heretic's Abode until your game session has ended, which means that if you're out of inventory space, you're welcome to leave and return without losing your loot.

(Please note that you cannot be sent to the same Realm of Pure Evil twice in a single game session. This means that if you create or have access to four or more Infernal Machine devices, in order to use all of them, you'll need to start up a brand new game once you've opened up three portals.)

The Rewards

For successfully defeating a boss pair, players will be rewarded with extra items and gold. In addition, they will also have a chance to harvest demonic organs from each of their fallen foes, which can be used to create a Legendary item of unique power: the Hellfire Ring. Three organ pieces will be needed to forge the Hellfire Ring:

The Writhing Spine, which drops from King Leoric or Maghda in the Realm of Discord
The Devil's Fang, which drops from Ghom or Rakanoth in the Realm of Chaos
The Vengeful Eye, which drops from Siegebreaker or Zoltun Kulle in the Realm of Turmoil Similar to the wardens' keys, a full five stacks of Nephalem Valor will be required for the organ pieces to drop, and each level of Monster Power will increase their drop rate by 10%.
Each time you wish to craft a Hellfire Ring, you will need to present all three organ pieces as well as 15,000 gold to the Jeweler. Once all of the organs have been collected, they can be combined at the Jeweler using a new design available for purchase from Squirt the Peddler. This design will teach your level 10 Jeweler four variations of the ring: the Hellfire Ring of Intelligence, the Hellfire Ring of Strength, the Hellfire Ring of Dexterity, and the Hellfire Ring of Vitality. Depending on which variation you choose, your ring will be guaranteed to roll one primary stat with a set value range of 170–200.

In addition to the guaranteed primary stat, each ring will always have the following:

+35% Experience
+4 Random Magical Properties
No Level Requirement
Bind on Account
Chance to launch an explosive Hellfire ball when you attack
The Hellfire Ring will be considered Unique-Equipped, which means that players can only wear one at a time. Your followers will be able to equip the ring, however, and given the boost to experience and absence of a level requirement, the rings make excellent heirlooms to be passed down to each of your alts. If you no longer find the need for one of your rings, simply salvage it for materials at your local Blacksmith. So create one or create more -- the choice is up to you!

I have been following the PTR pretty closely and the consensus seems to be something like MP6-7 for Keywardens and basically as high as you can go for ubers, essentially MP10 if you can, because so much time goes into getting the portal open that you pretty much want as much of a gurantee that an organ is going to drop.

@Rdzona. In hindsight I think Blizzard should have managed their development time better and pushed ideas through like this rather than the RMAH for launch. They knew they had to launch when they did as they couldn't possibly compete against Torchlight 2 at $20 versus D3 at $60 so I'm not going to knock them for releasing the game unfinished state as it was clearly playable. But it would have been a much nicer game if stuff like this were in the base game from day one. I bet the artists, programmers, managers, testers, etc at Blizzard enjoyed working on this patch 1000x more than they did on the RMAH after launch. :)

And a little update on my loot drops. Played with my nephew again for a few hours last night. He got 9 rares and I completely filled all my bank tabs and bags before we decided to "show our bling" by dropping them on the ground. He was flabbergasted that I got so much rare loot in comparison to him. Well he got the exact same amount of drops, but his were mostly blues in comparison to my rares. He's only at 39% magic find as he just hit 60 and hasn't checked out the AH yet. I'm not rocking much more as I didn't feel like robbing the DH just yet. It seems that for Monks dps doesn't matter so I may be able to get away with just wearing magic find gear. Not like anything in Act I can kill me with only 400 resists right now since I can reset any elite pack at will. Going from Demon Hunter to Monk is like getting demoted from working on a CRAY to a calculator. Ret Paladin faceroll!

Following Stevedave's comment about experience gains, I'm wondering if the loot might have something to do with killing blows. I outbid someone on a 10,000 gold 1132 dps Daibo w/ 1900 LoH and a socket. Since then I seem to be getting more killing blows than my nephew's 870 dps w / 900 LoH each daggers even though I'm more stationary compared to him. I'm thinking that the server is dropping me more rare loot as when I Exploding Palm a pack I can get 6 rares if I do it right. I thought that got nerfed months ago? The other night I was getting just as much loot as he was but mine was nearly all blue and thus left to rot on the ground.

Or random is random and RNG is a b*tch. Ha ha!

Last night my friend and I killed a champ pack, after which he said "No rares!"

I got 4 rares. I'm thinking random is random.

Edit: he's a glass-cannon DH with like 400K+ crits, so I'm assuming he did a lot of the work on the pack too.

Sheesh man, no one is even talking about this anymore!!! LET IT GO!!!!!!
Game released on May 15th, we get it, they have done a lot of work since then, stop living in the past. And if you recall correctly, every Blizz game takes this path. They polish the game as it goes. Don't like it, don't play it, but this incessant whining and moaning over the same topic is seriously getting stale. Move on!!

I can't see MP10 really being worth it

Unless you play the game entirely for the fun of it an care little about loot....which I do. The challenge is all I want. 4 Player MP10 Skeleton King is going to be the nuts like a 30 minute fight.

MP is restricted for private games still, yes?

No other way around. Its available in private games and has not yet been implemented for public games.

EDIT: I think you meant restricted TO private games only. KaptainKhoas connected the dots, but either way you got your answer.

They can polish it as much as they want but they won't change the dumbed down game mechanics they created the game around. Drops could possibly be changed but the entire game would have to be re-balanced. So they won't do that.

100% more magic find. 1,000% more magic find. So you just get more shitty loot. Big deal. They can increase magic find all they want but it will never change the fact that all loot is shitty.

Ohh... I have a 5% knockback on my weapon! Effin great!
Diablo 2 special abilities: knockback

This part is funny. I don't think Blizzard gave 2 shits about TL2 and it likely didn't play a factor into ANYTHING blizzard did or does. TL2 while a great game is has nothing on D3.

This is like saying the Superbowl aired when it did because they didn't want to be impacted by the World Cup.

Sales of TL2 even at $20 are a fraction of D3....Active Players of TL2 are likely also not even a fraction of D3's. They just aren't in the same ball park at all. Apples and Oranges completely.

Even if Blizzard waited to until PVP to launch D3 people like yourself would still be bitching and complaining because the game is still the same fundamentally and its the fundamentals of the game that most people have an issue with i.e RMAH and no character development.

1st, this was not an invitation to talk about this some more, not sure why you would quote me as if my voice on how I feel on the subject wasn't already crystal clear.
2nd. I'm finding drops just fine. I'm actually finding too much loot really. Not enough of a demand. Everyone wants legendaries and sets now, but that still doesn't mean that there are a ton of good rares floating aroud.
3rd. You're obvioulsy still playing but just bitching and whining. See original post.

yes they are restricted to prvt.

Cheers :)

Thanks

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I do have to say that: It is because I play a game and care about it, that I bitch.

Only Rdzona may voice his opinion. All hail Rdzona.

No we get it...some people really hate this game, which is fine but its turning into thread crapping and going off topic is where it needs to stop. I don't want to sift through pages of fanboy or troll posts to find useful information.

Only Rdzona may voice his opinion. All hail Rdzona.

Lol, you're so cute and precious!
Do you seriously want to rehash all this same shit? If you or someone else really really wants to, just read the first couple hundred pages of this thread for your daily WTF BLIzz effed up D3 so baddddd, nerd rage blah blah shitty story blah, no skill points blah blah. I don't really think I'm out of line here, its not like the game came out last week or last month. Its been out 5 months.

The game is pretty awesome now and will only be even better once 1.05 is launched. PoE, TL 2, etc don't even come close to the same level.

OH SHIT! IT'S ON NOW!

Anyways, I'm going to roll MP1 for a while. Going to start in act 3 as usual to test the difficulty before moving to other acts to freshen it up a bit.

I AM NUMBER ONE LIVING PARAGON IN AMERICA! KNEEL PEASANTS!:p;)

I didn't even think I was complaining; only stating what the game is like 5 months later. I wasn't rehashing the past as that was just me recanting what happened to me last night playing with a nephew of mine on brand spanking new level 60's. I thought the experience of a new level 60 Monk and Barbarian in D3 would break up the "I got 400k dps and I one shotted every elite pack in Act IV" diatribe.

Sorry my post didn't fit your definition of what's fun in D3. I personally got a kick out of my nephew in Skype when I covered the Tristam portal area with rares and he had only 9. I only wish I had FRAPS on at the time.

Kneel'd.

I just couldn't hack Hard core that long without dying. I am always goofing off too much and get myself into some shit I can't get out of and die.

I should be DC proof on the low MP levels with the inspiring presence buff. I'll have about 3k LPS. That should give me one heck of a shot at making it out alive with a good group.

Thats pretty badass big aug.

I came across some chatter on reddit on how this patch overwrites the preferences text file in our game folder. So with you being a HC player, if you've set a lot of key bindings and graphical settings, I would definitely make sure to get this ironed out before you venture out and find out a certain key you were using isn't doing what it used to. Not really a big deal to soft core but, I would sure want my keys working playing HC. Just fyi.
