Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Mind posting your build. I have a dual wielding barb, but I always seem to be running out of fury, and with its short duration its actually not that fun for me. Not sure what others are doing different, but other barbs I've played with seem to be able to keep it up longer.

Here is the build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#hUPQik!bYZ!ZZcbYc

I think you need atleast 42% crit and that should make fury generation pretty easy. Its a little hard getting fury to start a fight but once you have half fury you just make sure you have as many mobs around you as possible. Takes some micro management keeping all your cd's up and also watching your fury level but once you figure it out its pretty crazy. I can pretty much run through field of slaughter pulling every single mob i can and mow through them like nobodys business. Nothing like being in a group of 4 and the 3 other players just standing there watching you tank the whole map..rofl

What is your definition of "less valuable"? I've never considered running with magic find, simply because I thought it wasn't worth the effort for a minuscule increase in drop rate, but with the revelation that the quality of those rares that drop is higher, I am absolutley shoehorning MF into my build. I think a lot of people feel this way, and where there is demand, the price increases, thus making it more valuable.

Also, the only reason the 5 affix roll is less than 4% is due to the 1% and 2% rolls prior to the 5 affix roll. It's still 4% on that particular roll.

Less valuable = not as effective as previously thought.

My initialy impression was that D3 made a single roll on the item quality, and depending on that roll, it assigned it either unique/rare/magical/superior/normal/inferior.
So, say, unique = 1%, rare = 4%, magical = 10%, superior/normal/inferior = 85%. So when you equip 100% MF, you get unique = 2%, rare = 8%, magical = 20%, superior/normal/inferior = 165%, but since the total needs to = 100%, it cuts off the superior/normal/inferior to 70%. Thus, with that system, +100% MF actually means you will find exactly 100% more magical, rare and unique items as compared to the base drop rate. That would apply for every single type of magical item, whether a 6fix rare or a 3fix rare.

Now that this revelation has come out, with a given number of items dropped, +100% Mf means that you are garunteed to find 100% more uniques; you will find something less than 100% 6fix rares, something further less than that 5fix rares... etc. So in my calculations, for a given set number of drops, with +100% MF, you will find less than double the number of magical items. Thus, it is less valuable than I previously thought.

To clarify, if MF applied as I thought it was applied, then the drop distribution for my above example with 0%/100% MF would be as follows:
100/200 uniques
200/400 6fix
400/800 5fix
800/1600 4fix
1600/3200 3fix
3200/3800 magicals
2700/0 whites

So +100% MF would result in 100 more uniques (same in both) 200 more 6fix rares (8 more) 400 more 5fix rares (47 more) etc..

Hence why I made the statement that MF is less valuable. It does less than we thought it did. So I am confused why people are all of a sudden stacking more MF because it supposedly increases drop quality.... well, it does.... sorta... but in a way that is less effective than we thought before! That is, we had more reason to stack MF in the past than we do now, but people seem to be doing it more now even though it is less effective than we previously thought it was!

Wow the difference between running Diablo 3 on a SSD compaed to a HDD is night and day. No more loading assets/ massive hitching when loading a new area

Yea wish I could load a private server up on my SSD to avoid the lag. :)

Or stop using a crappy hdd? lol
Runs like butter on my 1st gen WD Black 1tb.

Your storage medium has nothing to do with lag.

The guy below was referring to having a private server at home to combat the lag. He just happens to have a SSD.

Yes it does though, Loading assets if you read the blizzard technical support forums you will see the game hitches like a boss on alot of hardware. It's to do with the way the game Loads certain things.

Running it in RAM or on an SSD fixes the issue. So what ever mate

"loading assets" off your drive isn't lag - it's just a slow drive. Lag has to do with your internet connection - the speed data is going back and forth between your computer and the server.

It seems like you'd know this since you mention "50 MS" - that is your ping correct?

I was playing D3 at first on my Samsung 1TB , and was experiencing stuttering...

But then i just moved it over to my SSD and it was a huge difference.

For those that don't have an SSD, you can move the D3 MPQ folder to a larger than 16gb flashdrive and do a symbolic link for the folder. That should clear up your stuttering.
(7.7gb total for the MPQ's, 8gb formatted wont cut it)

also, if you have 16gb ram, you can put MPQ's on a RAMdisk

People use the term for hitching and stuttering aswell. I have a 7200 RPM samsung Spin point and no other game lags. It's the game engine at fault not my drive.

trust me, even a good hard drive you'll be actually noticing an improvement with it on an SSD. With normal hard drives going up in price with SSD's dropping I dont understand how anything like a laptop even has a spinning drive anymore.

All you guys clinging to the old drives those aren't good for anything other than storage space and media streaming.

But in D3 even with the game on the best SSD in the world this crappy game will rubberband because the D3 servers are trash or the game design is just trash or BOTH

I found a weird weapon last night:

If only the DPS were a lil higher this would be fantastic LOL 950 LOH and over 200 vit

That's pretty sick. Some barb is going to 2h that thing for some serious cash.

As I said, i don't see how I could get any better. Load times are pretty nonexistant, and I don't see an asset popping.

400 hours of gametime and I have yet to roll max on ar on yellow, rolled 79 on a blue that went to vendor but that's about it. Having three affixes that are very high on on one item almost maxed out is still worth something to someone. I could see this going for a million.
Thought I'd share. I sold the gloves, for a little over 4 million

no clue what to put it up for because I wasn't see anything close to it with such high vit and LOH I put it on the RMAH somewhere over $100 and just crossing my fingers

any estimates on what I'll get for that? It's better than anything on the GAH so I hailmary'd it for 30mil, lol

its worth a decent amount, the thing is, it's not a very "wanted" item at the moment, so to speak. (at least i don't think it is)

i think at this point everyone's looking for crit and crit accessories (and/or crit hit dmg)
the dps barb that would buy something like that might be going for the infinite WotB whirlwind build which requires crit... and the tank barb will want some sort of resist

on top of that...
everyone is still gear swapping before the last hit.
it will definitely sell once they implement a gear swap fix and everyone goes crazy looking for high primary stat + magic find

but at this point, only a select portion of people are realizing they can't keep swapping gear forever

that said, you might get lucky and it will sell :)

Gotten sick of the game after I realized that it is designed for exploitation and RMAH sales. Not much in there after you finish the campaign once and the gear finds are ridiculous just to make it a micro transaction heaven for Blizzard. Takes almost 100 hours to get a million gold but can get it for 1-2 dollars through RMAH. What nonsense.

After this game I am pretty convinced that I will rarely buy and Blizzard can choke on my left nut for all I care. One of the most exploitative models of gaming. I hope it doesn't catch up. Already Call of Duty crap did and I don't want other games like Torchlight 2 or the next Bioware game using this model.

Also gear drops are abysmal. Can't believe how poorly the game is designed.

what? I can get ~200k in a single hour of act1, not including any items that I can sell on the auction house. where the hell are you getting 100 hours to farm a million gold?

it's pretty ideal for a purely farming set. thats a very high roll on mf, a decent roll on gf, and very high strength as well. vit is always nice and dexterity, I don't know how good it is for barbarians? but I assume dodge is decent for melee, although obviously it could have rolled better like crit, crit damage, or a socket, etc. It should definitely go for a few million most likely.

You must be level 60 already. For a level 43 I have only about 200k gold after playing around 40 hours.

So what? You don't need gold until level 60. What is there to buy?? And getting to level 60 takes like, 30-35 hours by itself - most of my friends did it faster than that. So .... yeah, you're still way off.

Sold an amulet with 40 gf and similar other attributes except no mf for $50 on rmah three weeeks ago if that helps.

If you're sick of it and not even level 60, or through hell, you might as well quit now. It doesn't get better when you hit inferno.

Once you hit Inferno, the gold acquisition really ramps up, either by farming Act IV hell, or farming inferno.

You can get decent upgrades all the way up to 59 for 25-50k a pop on the AH. That should be easy to get in nightmare. I was able to afford the staff of herding (150k total) before reaching act 2 in nightmare the first weekend D3 came out. If you're still struggling to hit 60 with 50k items on the AH you should find a new hobby. I can make 500k off of selling a single unidentified lvl 63 1hander, and find that alone every 1 or two act 1 farm runs ( <45 minutes). Usually I can the rest of my unids for about 300-500k a run.depending on what unids drop.

What idiot is looks for million gold items before 60 anyway?

Weird... I found 1 i63 one hander [it was trash] in about 20 runs of Act 1.

RNG must hate me.

In fact, every drop I get (110% mf base) is trash.

This game is just frustrating....

The game has its flaws, there are legitimate complaints... but this is not one of them. This is the root cause of the psychological effect of the AH. Even level 43's think they need millions.

I didn't have a million in my account until after I hit 60 with my wiz in soft core. As I was leveling up, seeing those million gold listings on he ah was my motivation for grinding harder and faster so that I could one day have legendary gear.

Just hit 60 with my barb in hardcore the other day and she had 800k saved up. Used almost every last bit of it upgrading and pretty much doubling resists, dps, and getting 50% more armor.

Some players are just not used to the grind it takes to get to max level on games like this. Too bad, because that's where the gold flows like wine.

Heh, yeah I couldn't have said it more concisely. I also wouldn't doubt that a lot of the "crap" items people are getting now would have been perfectly fine in getting them through inferno because they're worth dirt in the AH.

fwiw.

When my DH hit 60, I went to AH and spent about 500k to gear him up to wipe Act 1.

Gold is not really a problem until you need to upgrade for 30 mil a pop.

Dont worry. You can beat Act 1 inferno with gear worth less than half a mil. Mind you that was a few weeks ago. AH inflation is silly right now.

I MF swap when i can after 5 stacks. My templar is just there to give me like 15% MF, so i run with about 110 MF in full dps gear. I burn down elite packs, swap to 330% MF, then go back for the kill. It's pretty dangerous with some packs, so I dont do it all the time.

I've seen up to 4 rares drop from a single pack (after the double kill glitch was fixed) with that high MF. MF doesnt directly increase the drop rate of 63s (often times they're white), but since you get more rares total, the total number of 63s that drop go up too.

EDIT: My Act 1 run is start from the beginning of Part 9
Run Festering Woods
Run Cemetery of the Forsaken
Run to the entrance of Leorics Manor
Run from Leroics Manor to Butcher

How long does it take Blizz to "review" transactions in the RMAH? I want my monehs.
