Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Started A2 inferno last night. Got past maghda, but I died quite a bit on my DH. My favorite mob by far was those wasps, Rare, waller, illusion, vortex. Be going great, get them to 1/2 health. Then bam vortex, dead.

You must be level 60 already. For a level 43 I have only about 200k gold after playing around 40 hours.

40 hours and only lvl 43? you are doing tons wrong

i make over 500k an hour not counting the AH crap but that is over 300 GF with 26k DPS I get slaughtered anywhere above A1 but farming and cashing in on the RMAH is the end game isn't it?

i just solo leveld a monk from 1-60 in under 16 hours of a non stop play session.

Funny AH stuff.

Found somewhat decent pants [ 680 armor, +70 int, +170 vit, +60 all res, + 2 sockets].

Put up on AH for 10 mill buyout... they got sold in under 10 minutes.

Just for fun, I do a search and they are re-listed for 25 million.

No wonder AH prices are going through the roof....

I'm thinking about purchasing this game. My brother let me play his account this weekend, and I had an absolute blasting getting to the mid twenties on a wizard. But I hear that the endgame is kind of weak at the moment and it seems like a lot of people feel let down.

Is now a good time to start playing? Have all of the major kinks been ironed out yet? Is the endgame really so bad? Is it worth $60 in its current form?

Thanks.

I think it is. I think this game will age well. It's not as though Diablo 2 was all that at release. It's taken many patches and updates as well as an expansion pack to make Diablo 2 really shine. I'm not playing as much as I used to these days, but I still log in every couple days. It was well worth the cost of admission.

$60 -- about 100 hours of good play time. For me. Not too shabby, but most people complained about the game not being a 1,000+ hour game. Well, Blizzard did kind of screw up when it comes to that.

There were very few bugs or glitches to begin with. I haven't played a game this stable for quite a while. 100 hours and it did not crash on me a single time. Just some lag here and there. I played as a hardcore witch doctor and reached level 60. Unless you live off shore, in Australia or in a remote place you shouldn't have lag problems.

I'd say, go for it. It won't drop in price anytime soon (it's Blizzard). It's good fun, but it won't keep your attention for much longer than ~100 hours.

Resellers of gear aren't the problem. Bots are the problem. It's trivial to run a bot and while Blizz does ban them every once in a blue moon they really can't do anything about it unless the botter runs the bot 24/7.

Professionals limit the use per account to under 6 hours per day and don't bot overnight and at overall odd times. A decent rig can run multiple bots at the same time. A hobby botter can pull 1m/hr in just gold and vendoring stuff using multiple characters. The professionals run hundreds of characters every hour of every day collectively creating literally trillions of gold per hour.

1st World customers buy the gold for like $1.5 per million. It's an entertainment expense. No big deal to drop $50 on some gold to have some fun. Multiply that my thousands of players buying gold and you end up with a lot of gold around.

Not much to do right now except the loot grind, PvP is still a month away it looks like. Wizards are very gear dependent once you reach inferno. There are only a few builds you can use until you get enough of the costly resist gear. Once you do though they are quite fun again, melee wizards are even doable (with high block shield).

I'm starting to seriously reconsider my approach to making money. Due to being dead broke on the later levels (albeit I can easily farm Acts 1 & 2 with 200+ MF), and having absolutely no luck in drops, I've decided to level up a barbarian. I can't farm items quick enough for the AH for low level gear. If it's a weapon and has a socket, attach a flawless square ruby and I can make 5k-10k, as the item will easily sell out in a few minutes. It definitely beats trying to find the perfect level 63 gear that can sell for over 10k. And I've made more money today per hour than when I farm NM with 220 gold find.

My other two notes:

Why does my Barbarian with 7 MF seem to be having better luck acquiring gear (and useful gear) than my Monk with 200+ MF? I swear, I've never had as good of luck. I haven't even had to use the AH, and the gear has been good enough that I can't even join a public game on my current quest because I'm too low level.

Finally, I've changed my mind about reduced level requirement. I just hit level 42 about an hour ago, and for some reason or another, I decided to keep a 600 dps spear. All I can say is wow... Sadly, I've sold my other weapons like this before, so my barb has had to go from dual wielding to a shield (and spears are so slow...).

"loading assets" off your drive isn't lag - it's just a slow drive. Lag has to do with your internet connection - the speed data is going back and forth between your computer and the server.

It seems like you'd know this since you mention "50 MS" - that is your ping correct?

Seriously? Lag is a common word meaning to fall behind or fail to keep up. He can apply lag to anything he wants if its doing what lag really means.

then whyTF did he mention his ping in the same sentence?
SSD is enough, i dont get lag in europe constant 50 MS.

the SSD doesn't have a damn thing to do with your ping.

It all depends on your friends. If your brother is actively playing it I'd say now is the ONLY valid time to get the game so you can play with your brother....he might be done with the game in a few weeks or months then when you finally get around to buying it you'll be playing with yourself.

Some people like to play alone but I pretty much only play when my friends are playing. To me this is a multiplayer only game.

Lifeless, pointless, lame. With most games I kind of slowly stop playing, a lot of friends and people I know, including me, stopped outright at the same time. It just isn't fun. :-\

Just as with D2 the community of solo-ers is pretty big.

I played solo all the way through up to inferno as a HC Witch Doctor, only during some boss fights I had company. It's fun either way for me, and for lots of other people I'd imagine.

I don't really want to defend D3 because I think that it is a reskinned D2 created to make Blizzard a shitton of money via RMAH fees and now gold sales (you can buy up to USD 3,200,000 worth of gold directly from Blizzard).

Having said that I do have to point out that what you wrote above makes no sense at all. Every single game is pointless from a deeper meaning perspective. It's supposed to be entertaining, that is all. If it was entertaining to get to the end-game then the purchase of the game has served its purpose. For a one-time fee of $60 you will rarely find unlimited entertainment.

At the end of the day every game is repetitive. Some people enjoy MF runs at 60 and others do not. There is no flaw in the game, it's unrealistic expectations that are the problem.

I guess I should have made it clearer. As my opinion (and everyone I've played it - EVERYONE), it's more boring than any other game we've ever tried. I've gotten limitless amounts of fun from other games, and would gladly pay $60 AGAIN to play them a 400th time. I guess it could be due to unrealistic expectation, but I think, and if I had to be frank here, it would have to do with the RMAH, and the boss-fights being uninteresting, coupled with gear being completely lack-luster. Will they fix it? Maybe. Too late for me though.

While clearly I'm not replaying Diablo 3 over and over currently, this probably means you haven't played many games if you can't think of one that's more "boring" than D3. For something that's so boring, you guys sure put a lot of time into it, no?

Pretty much nailed it. I'm sick of farming Acts 1-4 on Inferno for terrible gear. It's not fun. The AH/RMAH directly affects the quality of gear you see ingame (as in drop chances) and its ruined the game for me. I might look at it again once they change some things but as it stands now I'm done with it.

I played through the first difficulty, and halfway through the second one, that's all I could take. The plenty of other boring games in my collection don't hold a candle.

Yep.

Yep.

So after normal, you decided that RMAH made the game boring? Quite honestly, if anyone couldn't stomach the game after normal, then they really had no idea what to expect from a Diablo game.

Read what I said up above. It wasn't only the RMAH (which is a piece of shit) that made it crap.

It's a bit hyperbolic to say that EVERYONE thinks D3 is the most boring game they've ever played. The basic gameplay is pretty much what Diablo games are all about. And honestly, I doubt it took you that long to get through normal so you likely played prior to the RMAH so I really don't see your point there unless you had no idea there would be a RMAH prior to its launch. Not really going to argue about your opinion though.

"(and everyone I've played WitH - EVERYONE)"

Should be everyone I've played WITH, not sure why I typed 'it'. I just don't like that there aren't upgrades I can get when I'm playing with a friend, for my class. I've gotten maybe two, MAX, upgrades for myself that were relatively 'ok' stats-wise. I didn't think the RMAH would be something I'd need to depend on like a lifeline, that's why I'm disappointed. But what's it matter, I don't play anymore, nor do I plan to. The combat, was fine. I can't argue there, nor do I have any negative opinions on that portion.

I'm betting Torchlight 2 is going to cure these Diablo 3 blues.

Yet how did you come to the conclusion that you need to depend on the RMAH as a life line when you've barely gotten past normal? The RMAH wasn't out day 1 or week1. The RMAH came out a month after the game came out. Plenty of people had cleared inferno (pre-nerf) before that.

It just seems like this sort of twisted notion that you need to spend money on this game has some sort of psychological impact on people. We've had in this thread, a level 32 complain that he's too underpowered unless he goes to the AH, a level 43 claim he can't get anywhere without millions, and someone barely in nightmare claim that you need to rely on the RMAH. Where is this coming from?

If you don't like the gameplay, ok... but what interesting bosses did D2 have that are replayable 400 times vs.D3 bosses?

But there weren't interesting bosses in D2 either. I've played Inferno as well, should have mentioned that, tried a friend's monk and a friend's wizard, and I've gone through a few days of grinding and experienced it to a decent degree, it just wasn't for me. I fully understand that it's the nature of the beast, to re-do content over and over, that's what the game's about. But it's just not for me (or for my friends (excluding the 2-3 that still continue to farm)). This isn't the first time I've expressed disinterest in the game, I was one of the first people to start posting in the thread way back.

You know Q man, I doubt it. The action/clickfest genre has just been soured for me. I'll take no part in it unfortunately.

So D2 wasn't interesting either and the fundamental game play of replaying content in a ARPG isn't for you.

How again, is this an issue with Diablo 3? It seems like it's just personal taste and inappropriate expectations from a Diablo game.

I suppose I could post in some thread about a genre I don't find interesting about how it's not interesting to me, but what really is the point.

I suppose. But I really don't think it's just me with unrealistic expectations.

The big thing with this game is that I didn't like not getting any kind of drops, and killing 'bigger and tougher' baddies wasn't any different than killing some random creep. If I had to pick one thing, just one, it'd be that.

Then Borderlands 2 (and 1 on the cheap if you've never played it) might hit that itch better for you. ;)

I liked Borderlands 1. Because I got a feeling of satisfaction every so and so. I received upgrades that were well suited for different situations, but not enough to make things too easy.

I wouldn't lump everyone who isn't satisfied with the game into the category of 'unrealistic expectations'. I didn't have unrealistic expectations, but I'm certainly not satisfied with the game for other reasons.

I see the upgrades/drop thing quoted a lot. Blizzard explained it best in terms of statistics - but to paraphrase and put it very extremely simply: It really doesn't matter what the drop rate is on items. Conceptually, you can't keep getting upgrades indefinitely. As soon as you get an upgrade, the pool of items that are an upgrade for that slot is now smaller so statistically you will now get less upgrades.

The real issue is with their base itemization and the stat distribution on gear. Drop rates are not low. This is very obvious as Inferno is now a shower of rares. It's the inherent statistical issues with the stat distribution on gear and how reliant gear is on pure stats. Rather than vague generalities, I think it's far more constructive to analyze the issue on a deeper level vs. saying "i don't get upgrades" - since that's not realistic in any game really.

D3 does give you plenty of upgrades as you level if not only by the virtue that you're out leveling your gear, which is essentially what happened in games like Torchlight and Borderlands. People just never farmed those games ad nauseum at end game because no one expected to and that wasn't the point of those games.

I think LeninGHOLA nailed it quite a few pages back; by making the skill system entirely dependent on gear, your ONLY psychological motivator is getting better gear. In D2, at least you were still leveling up, getting more stats, doing more damage, etc. You still felt more powerful and had a carrot in front of you, regardless of items.

In D3, you have none of that. You're stuck digging through a mountain of shit for one tiny carrot.

For all the bitching I just wanted to say by the end of the summer I plan on having all chars (5-6 chars) at level 60 and pretty much using the game to sell items. I make $5 here, $3 there, which is cool since I play all the time so it's cool to get some energy drink money... lol. The game is fun sometimes to play, other times I get burnt out or frustrated.

I don't find myself as satisfied as starcraft 2 when I win a game, but Diablo 3 has made me appreciate games that were developed with a lot of time and energy - I've recently been thinking of trying some older games like Age of Empires or something for the heck of it. Diablo 3 is entertaining at times but still, somehow, fun to play. I just wish the game itself was longer - Maybe 1-2 more Acts longer?

Not really. I've been leveling some low level characters and going through the AH once I stack at least 10k gold from just running through events, acts, etc a few times and I can say that wow there is a huge jump in hit points, for example, as you level up. Also the damage I do with decent gear as I level up scales well. It's after level 30 that things get kinda redundant, IMO.
