Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Well I've already been playing other games, or doing other things. I guess the game is boring if you are playing hours long every day but I still find it fun to play for a couple hours here or there.

Or just cash out, because in all honesty lets face it game will be dead soon.

doubtful

agreed; i mix it up.. got dayz, bf3 to play too

DH have the hardest time progressing. I would get your self a barb or monk friend cause your dmg is high enough for act 3
High enough? Yes. Able to go through without being frustrating? No. Although I admit I haven't tried in a while so I might take another stab at it.
Is it just DPS and Dexterity you are building? My experience with inferno is I stopped concentrating on DPS and Dexterity and started incorporating Life on Hit, Resist All and other important stats.
No. Dex is primary yes, but I also look for +vit and +resist all. LoH isn't viable for someone who dies in 1 (maybe 2) hits.
Yeah, just the real high end stuff is the only thing left for me to buy, and those prices haven't come down yet. So if I can't sell anything for decent money I'm gonna have a hard time getting money :[
And once I get to that point I think I'm just gonna farm. Or create another character or something. I already made a HC barb just to get a few stupid achievements and to play a melee instead of ranged class. It was much more refreshing then I thought it would be. But ultimately it still comes down to just getting good gear. Although your ass puckers up more often while playing a HC character. :p

I'm running into that as well. It seems like I have hit a gear wall where I've maxed out my ability to realistically make money, and the affordability of the items I can buy.

As a WD, I just his Act II Inferno, and man, people weren't joking. But I was thinking I had the stats. I have over 450 resists in everything, 6.5k armor. Though vitality is kinda low (18k?), my AOE dps is pretty sick when I get my zombie bears flowing.

Still, it doesn't matter what my dps is, since it takes me 4 button presses to get it rolling, and I get one-shotted by really any pack.

At this point the fun has subsided, and it's become a chore to plan out how I'm going to spend the next three days worth of gaming to save up for a single upgrade. Maybe. Co-oping helps, but I don't always have teh time to dedicate to other people. I kinda want to be able to dip in and out.

I'm not sure it even requires explanation.

Can you name a build that everyone was using because of IAS stacking?

Can you name a build that everyone is using because of crit stacking?

Actually yes there is a Mage build where you stack crit for infinite mana to infinitely CC elite packs, champs, bosses, etc. Only thing it sucks at is fire chains. Poison is negated because it never gets cast unless you go oom. That's what my buddies were running before they quit. They were farming Act III Inferno in pure crap gear with tons of crit.

If they ever log back in I'll ask about it in more detail. It was so good to have them spamming CC on the mobs. I got to Belial on my Demon Hunter and I only had 18k HP and 12k dps in Inferno just by casting aoe X spam. Was the cheesiest thing I've ever seen personally; but hey it works!

Didn't some barb have 743k dps by stacking IAS? I've seen so much stuff about Diablo III and haven't really paid attention to information about other classes other than Demon Hunter.

:)

Which is contrary to Blizzard's statement about stacking crit/ias for a build.

Again, contrary to their statement. They stated that the power of IAS on DPS was never the issue with them. So a DPS number wasn't the reason it got nerfed.

The big wall I ran into in A2 was the champ packs in the Aqua Ducts. Theres no way to kite the fast ones. And even after reloading a few times to get the non-fast ones, they were still to fast. I mean, I can kite them for a little bit yea, but I just simply wasn't killing them fast enough before I blew all my cool downs.

Im hoping these upgrades + maybe a few gem upgrades + maybe a few more Warden/Butcher runs will get me to where I want to be.

Well I really think that you need to read between the lines on that one. He may be treading very carefully about saying that but that is pretty much what he means. I mean cmon, we both pasted that pic.

Pre IAS nerf

This guy and Athene both had several videos on youtube showing off how fast they can kill bosses. I mean seriously, it was so ridiculousy fast that it was downright laughable and I'm pretty sure embarrassing for Blizz. They're just being careful about what to call the reasoning behind the nerf. But don't be disillusioned, it was because of the damage and it was too hard not to build according to that. They're just slanting it more towards the "build diversity" talk, but the two are directly linked.

Yet they still do it by stacking Crit + Crit Damage. At their gear level, Crit + Crit Damage dwarfs IAS and has always dwarfed IAS.

Again, quote straight from Blizzard:

We've no plans to nerf +Crit Chance or +Crit Damage. While +Crit Chance and +Crit Damage are very strong right now, there's nothing inherently wrong with something being strong. As mentioned above, players doing too much damage is not enough reason for us to bring out the nerf bat.

Don't feed us bullshit if it's not the truth. They're just spouting non sense at this point. I'd rather they were straight up with the players if they're going to communicate something like that.

EDIT: And if we're really going to go down the path of damage scaling and stats, IAS on weapons was the smallest budgeted DPS stat. +Dmg and +%Dmg were better and +100% crit damage + Socket are insane compared to IAS.

Really?

After nerf

Seems to me that 733K>165K

733k was with Super Saiyan, a shrine, and other buffs. 165K is unbuffed.

Are you seriously trying to tell me that cutting IAS by 50-75% reduced his dps from 733k to 165k?

Think for just a second.

I'm not saying that those numbers are strictly b/c of the nerf. I'm not exactly sure how much he lost, but I'm sure he lost quite a bit. Otherwise people like him and Athene and apparently you wouldn't have been in an uproar about it. All I was trying to illustrate was that IAS did have a huge imapct on DPS. Hence the nerf. And those same players haven't gotten back to those ridiculous 800K dps levels since then, even with crit%/damage.

I've watched his stream quite a bit, and I think buffed he gets up to somewhere in the 400K region or close to it. So fine I'll redo the inequality. 733K > 4XXK Damage

All I was trying to illustrate was that IAS did have a huge imapct on DPS. Hence the nerf.

And yet you ignore the statement by blizzard that says basically what you're saying is not a cause for nerf.

I think it doesn't take a lot of mathematical competence to realize the impact of crit / crit damage vs. ias. I'm also not going to comment about vague number comparisons without knowing exactly what buffs he had on. I'm sure you can work out the numbers if you actually bothered to think about it.

I'm going to give you a little hint: These players typically have 500%+ critical damage. Every percent of crit will increase their dps by 5% of their base. This is 5 times more effective than IAS.

Still unsubstantiated speculation. Why would Blizzard rebalance the game based on the stats of half a dozen players? (Do they actually do that? I don't play WoW, so honest question).

That's their claim, though... that there was a disproportionate number of players gravitating toward one build.

They've nerfed things in WoW because of a handful of players, but only when the abilities were so broken that they were exploitable. e.g. there was a guy in vanilla wow who used an ability that allowed you to stack up counter-attacks infinitely to one-shot an outdoor raid boss. He stacked up like 100,000 counter-attacks (all of these would hit instantly when you attacked next). They ended up limiting the stack to five after that.

So lets assume we know 2 things. 733000 was his buffed damage prior to nerf.
And 165000 is his base damage after nerf.

Lets assume the nerf was 50%, thats what I've always heard.

We'll take 733000*0.5 = 366500 damage

You don't think that he can take 165000 to 366500 with super saiyan, a shrine, and "other buffs"?

Thats roughly a 220% increase. WoTB with Insanity adds 100%. A shrine adds 25%. I'm pretty sure that with passives such as weapons master, or berserker and one or 2 other skills that you can close that gap. So, maybe it is possible?

Blizzard almost always balanced WoW for the high end players. That's what has worked for them for many years. Then when a new dungeon or raid is about to come out they nerf the old content so that everyone can experience it.

So I would assume that Blizzard is at least acknowledging that some players have BiS gear and are trying to reign them into the fold instead of them being an outlier.

They did though with the nightstalker and critical mass people clearing inferno week 1. They also fumbled the critical mass issue by first nerfing force armor then realizing they're moronic because critical mass was what drove the build. Derp.

Lets assume the nerf was 50%, thats what I've always heard.

Well take 733000*0.5 = 366500 damage

I don't know how else to explain it... 50% cut in ias is not a 50% dps nerf. You need to rethink how DPS is calculated.

Well IAS makes the server lag more so I suppose it's better in Blizzard's eyes to have a guy hit a boss for 500k once (crit + crt dmg) than 4 times for 125k (stacking IAS). For example Demon Hunter 1hnd weapons.

Crit modifiers lend themselves more to cookie cutter builds than IAS, in my melee only experience.

Meh, not really for WDs as far as I have been able to tell. Don't hit often enough for crit s to matter as much. It was attack speed that matters, so I can saturate the field as much as possible. It's largely an AOE class once you hit inferno in my experience.

idk about WD but for right now crit is significantly better then attack speed for the majority of classes. its much easier to stack and tends to yield much higher benefits in terms of dps

My buddies WD is pretty deep into a crit build. Some of the numbers rolling off can be pretty insane.

Im not supe geared but I run over 300% crit. My shock pulse (100% weapon damage signature skill) can crit for 200k.

If I tried mega arcane orb (been a while, 240-320% weapon damage I think) along with arcane dynamo(+75%) I could maybe break half a mil? I'll try that tonight.

In theory higher attack speeds also leads to more crits along with everything. This is why IAS was argued to be nerfed.

Crit damage affects - damage and in turn % life steal
Crit chance affects -affects resource regeneration (arcane on crit), numerous abilities(wizard spectral blade life steal on crit), and everything that comes with crit damage
IAS affects - damage, animation speed and kiting, more crits (since more attacks), life on hit, and everything that comes with crit chance and crit damage.

I was ok with the dps drop, but for me it hurt my kiting ability(attack animation speed) and survival (life on hit) more.

Hey guys what's a good res. for a barb to run in Act 2? I'm at 500 all res. 8k armor, 14k DPS and I still run MF in Act 1 but not sure if I'm ready for Act 2 yet.

I think I am going to start some hardcore, so insanely bored with this game, I need something interesting to do. Whats the better hardcore class? Monk or barb? Any hardcore players here? Hydralisk?

i ran through with slightly less stats than that around 12k dps 7k armour and 400 resist - u will die though - what is your HP - u need 20k plus at least. Now pushing 40k HP with 30k DPS - ACT 1 is laugh now can run around in MF gear :). ACT2 still hurts sometimes and ACT3 is a death fest :(.

iTravis -

Bump that resist to at least 650 and dps to at least 18k. I assume due to the ac, you're sword and boarding it. With at least 1700 STR, a ~750 dps weapon should put you in the 17k dps range.

IMO, Monk is easiest to keep alive. A good Revenge / life % damage / LoH build for barb can work just fine, though. You can end up shuffling things around and having retarded high mitigation, wheras the Monk will be sailing on resists.

Is that 650 for all classes, or just melee? As WD, is Mid 400's sufficient?

Monk is much easier to stay alive without being super geared. My first monk died because I literally went afk without pausing so he just wound up dead. The next one was due to an arcane vortex mob that I underestimated. The key for that guy was I should have probably twinked a little more from the AH at that level. I was feeling a little undergeared but decided to keep going. From all the affixes I've seen in HC... Arcane Vortex has got to be the most deadly. It is by far the combo that you have the least control over. I didn't really analyze affixes that much in SC, but it becomes pretty key in HC. Sometimes you gotta learn to just run away and avoid a pack instead of risking it.

With my Wizard (really didn't feel like playing a 3rd monk), I pretty much overgeared everything through Hell and managed to stay alive fairly easy that way. In Hell, you can grind to ~56 while in Act 1 doing Leoric's Manor and then grind to 60 at the beginning of Act 3. 56 has some nice item step ups and of course 60 has all the items available. There's enough gear so you won't break the bank twinking your guy while leveling.

When you first start, get the 2-4 dmg rings/ammy (you can find some from the AH or keep reloading until the vendor in A1 sells them). At 15, you get socketed helms and (most) weapons (some require 17 or 18 for whatever reason). Generally, daggers will make the best use of rubies. Buy a flawless square ruby for your helm and your weapon. This makes HC leveling super smooth until about 45ish in A3 Nightmare. The latter half of A3 nightmare is when your OP ruby weapon loses a bit of effectiveness.

Depends on your ability to avoid damage ;)

Melee are going to rely on resists a lot more. Mid 400's will probably get yout through Act II with clever tactics, but Act III will be a problem. My buddies WD is about ~500 res all and we had some issues getting through Act II. Act III is stonewalling us due to a lack of dps.

As far as Barbs go, mine is sitting at about 300 res all, 18kdps, 6600 ac and is not able to handle Act II at the moment. Lacking resist too much.

my barb can do act 2 but i have like 800+ resist and my armor to resist ratio is really close to 1:1... most people neglect armor but its an amazing stat, and the ratio between them being even is important
