Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

My strat on the gold AH is I just list it at whatever the minimum the game pops up in the window with no buyout. Unless it is something really good. I actually listed 700 Inferno essences at double going rate and after 3 relistings they sold. Someone out there must acutally try and smith some things but it seems like a total loss as everything I ever tried was total crap. And at 100K plus per attempt for high end stuff who would even try it?

And its the most profitable way of making Gold in the game, just look at all the live streamers raking in 100's of millions for crafting for people.

100k is nothing anyway.

because of "gearflation", there is a shit load of gear and it never decays / is destroyed. So everytime someone loots a good piece of gear and sells it on the AH, there is less of a market unless people re-roll.

And rerolling isn't necessary anymore after you have all the classes, unlike D2 where making another character had a point (different build for example). It's all going to cotnribute to "gearflation". D2 had a ladder system where the ladder was reset every 6 months or so which makes the game much more fun. WoW has expansions and new content releases with increased ilvl's and many other things to make it replayable. None of this exists in D3 unfortunately. Add a ladder reset system IMO.

To be fair, it's quite a burden to gear up 5 chars. I realized this after my 3rd and stopped leveling up new 60's.

D2's ladder system also had the ulterior motive of 'refreshing' everything. The D2 market was rather distorted with dupes and bots. The ladder was somewhat refreshing every time.

In terms of controlling gear, WOW actually learned from D2. Despite my qualms about WOW, it got gear right. The BOP/BOE system was fundamental. D3 went backwards and I'm fairly certain this is the root of most of the issues.

If we're to be completely fair, D3 went backwards in ALOT of ways.

And i aint complaining because ive made money from sittin on my arse :D instead of paying to waste my life, im getting paid to waste it.

I actually wouldn't mind rares/legendaries being BOE in Diablo 3.

But why? Wouldn't it trivialize most dropped gear, as you'd be more careful with upgrades? Wouldn't that further the loot cost discrepacnies on the AH?

The only way I see that working is if BOE items could be broken down to augment rolls on crafted gear, which would remain tradeable. ie BOE Legendary can add another effect slot (must cap attainable effect slots) or increase base stats roll by 15% when you break it down into components and apply to crafting recipes. As it is, most crafted gear is pretty poor.

Welcome to D3, where basically playing the auction house is the entire game.

Enjoy your stay.

Glad I sold all my gear on the RMAH before the prices plummeted.

I'm all for that. Having BOE/BOP would make loot more valuable to the individual and stabilize the economy somewhat, as the use-sell mentality would cease to exist. Also, crafting may become more viable/useful.

Well everyone's talking about "gearflation". Binding something definitely takes it out of the economy.

Also, if Blizzard really wanted to stick with their Tiered Inferno loot system, the only way would be to have BOP items from bosses the same way WOW does. The reason they had to retune inferno drop rates was because no one was satisfied with farming Act 1 or Act 2 if it didn't have the ilvl 63 goodies. This was never an issue in WOW due to BOP.

Most of the loot dissatisfaction is mainly psychological. But then again, we are human beings playing a game. You have to cater towards what's fun and not mechanical or logical reasons. Right now there's no logical reason for anyone to complain about loot. It's fairly plentiful (on the AH) and you can clear inferno rather easily with what's available for not too much out of pocket gold. But it's clearly NOT fun.

They made the mistake of presenting the goal of D3 as beating Inferno. They then designed a tiered loot system which just doesn't work the way they did it. Realized that was a huge mistake and changed it. What we're left with now is basically a more frustrating version of Diablo 2 since Inferno is still nothing like Diablo 2 and it's still presented as the end goal of PvE D3... to beat inferno. It leaves a shallow feeling after you've accomplished that.

Have you guys seen the dungeon where all the mobs are named from the dev staff?

How would BOE items trivialize most dropped gear? You'd still be able to equip an item that was an upgrade for you, or sell it. You just couldn't do both, and items would eventually be removed from the economy because when you equipped an upgrade, you'd salvage the other item. Right now, items enter the game and never leave. Millions of them. Every day. The inevitable consequence of this is that "average" items will become less and less valuable as people gear up, and eventually even the best items in the game will become incredibly common and trivialize the difficulty of Inferno.

Making rares BOE would stabilize the economy, remove excess items from the game, and ensure that the game stays somewhat of a challenge for new players.

I still don't agree. Adding more levels would help alleviate the massive jump in effectiveness between ilvl 60 and ilvl 63 items. Adding imore interesting effects to bolster certain build types would help, too. It's too easy to find "best in slot" for each class, loot is too general. If loot is essentially where you get 98% of your stats from, it should be more varied than vanilla D2.

I can complain about loot logically, as all classes go for the same stats in the same slots. Nothing is unique enough to make you feel like your character is any different than anyone elses. Sure, a lot of that is due to not having true character builds. The issue is that gear needs to be able to make up for the lack of actual character building in this case. You can't just rely on "ya this slot needs main dps sta + crit/ias/LoH".

In early D2/LoD, you could group up with someone new and run into some amazing builds. Sure, some of them became cookie cutter, but they did separate themselves from the norm and created several ways to gear and build your character.

As far as the lack of end game, you're right. Theres kinda nothing to do.

So, I've got the the point on my Barb where unless I want to shell out 20mil gold+ or use real money I can't find anything even worthwhile on the auction house. A lot of times even if I set the max buyout to unlimited nothing pops up that is better than what I have.

I'm only in act 2 of Inferno, too.... Kind of bummed... There are slightly better weapons than what I have, I guess, but that is literally all I can search for regardless of price that beats my stuff.

I don't even play that much either. Boredddd

How many hours do you have into the game?

Time to get a new class and Repeat.

100,000 to 1,000,000 you see HUGE gains in gear....but 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 is such small return on investment. Very annoying to me.

Just checked, about 59 hours.

I haven't bothered to start another character since it took so damn long to get my guy to 60.

Damn. I have 100 hours on my Wizard, still have plenty of upgrades available to me :( Rings, amulets, chest pieces, all so expensive...

Yeah. I mean, there is better stuff out there by a little bit, but its all in the ridiculous price category which I'm not about to bother with.

Until this type of shit in China gets stopped, I don't think I can enjoy the game.

Because, let's face it: almost everything that drops in the game is complete crap. While leveling up, you can equip something that may not be best in slot, knowing you can sell it off once you're done with it. With crafting as it is, people are not only not going to equip a BOE item (especially post lvl 60) unless it is best in slot, they also know that breaking it down into crafting materials when they're done with it is mostly pointless. Crafted gear really falls off a cliff after say level 45. You'd be relying mostly on making money from vendored items and limited by the fact that crafting is kinda lame.

You would have to buff crafted items, but make the crafting materials cost higher.

What are your stats like? DPS, life, armor, resists, crit chance, crit damage, LoH?

I get the feeling you may not have a very good understanding of what's "better stuff".

Looks more like 2 accounts. Not that its any less scary, I miss the little chinese guys doin it, these robots don't look like any fun :(

Perhaps on those machines... but there were pictures I *didn't* grab that showed the windows task bar with at least 15 copies open at once.

Anyone here an achievement junkie?

I didn't really worry about achievements at first. But lately, been getting bored with the same old grind with good loot that seems to be increasingly scarce. Ran through a bunch of them the last two days and finally got over 3000.

I'm sure its happening in the US as well.....maybe not on such a large scale but still likely happening.

I am very tempted to open a new account and try to bot. Only reason I don't is it will probably take a lot of time to get everything setup and I'll spend less time actually playing the game........also the $60 for another account and having never programmed a bot application before.

I don't think this is true, I think the reverse would happen. People would equip great gear, but sell off BIS stuff unless they absolutely needed it.

And crafting is great, there are plenty of 6 prop crafts post level 60 that can create some of the best gear in the game, and craftable legendaries. It's just luck of the draw.

Oh, and this just dropped for me off a champion in Act 3 Inferno. Any guesses how much $$ it will sell for in in the RMAH? I put it up for 149.99 bid, $250 buyout. There is nothing on the RMAH with that much str/LoH/crit damage, AND it has vitality, and 800+ dps.

Yeah, that's almost as close to a perfect roll as you can get. A socket would have been icing, but who cares. I have no idea if I will get $150+ for it, but I'm hoping someone is antsy.

So, uhh, Blizzard admits Diablo 3 sucks.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/05/blizzard-admits-diablo-iii-endgame-isnt-sustainable

Article:
Blizzard has agreed with claims that the Diablo III item hunt isn't enough for a sustainable endgame.

Speaking on the game's forums, community manager Bashiok stated, "There needs to be something else that keeps people engaged, and we know it's not there right now".

"We recognize that the item hunt is just not enough for a long-term sustainable end-game," he said.

"There are still tons of people playing every day and week, and playing a lot, but eventually they're going to run out of stuff to do (if they haven't already). Killing enemies and finding items is a lot of fun, and we think we have a lot of the systems surrounding that right, or at least on the right path with a few corrections and tweaks. But honestly Diablo III is not World of Warcraft. We aren't going to be able to pump out tons of new systems and content every couple months."

Given the fact that Diablo was recently beaten on the game's hardest setting, some players have been suggesting Blizzard didn't provide enough content at launch. But Bashiok is quick to assert that this doesn't mean the company is content to sit idle while players are bored. He cites the upcoming PvP arenas along with a progression system as potential solutions, though neither will arrive soon.

He explained, "We're working toward 1.0.4, which we're really trying to pack with as many fixes and changes we can to help you guys out (and we'll have a bunch of articles posted with all the details as we get closer), and we're of course working on 1.1 with PvP arenas.

"I think both those patches will do a lot to give people things to do, and get them excited about playing, but they're not going to be a real end-game solution, at least not what we would expect out of a proper end-game. We have some ideas for progression systems, but honestly it's a huge feature if we want to try to do it right, and not something we could envision being possible until well after 1.1 which it itself still a ways out."

Several players were quick to suggest that this proves Blizzard released Diablo III before the title was ready, but Bashiok refutes this. He did admit however that, "Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose, but we believed pre-release that the item hunt would be far more sustainable, and would work to be a proper end-game for quite a while. That didn't turn out to be true, and we recognize that."

Despite this, the game doesn't appear to be in the dire straights that some are extrapolating from his admission. Comparing the title's retention with Blizzard's other juggernaut, World of Warcraft, he revealed that Diablo III was still performing well and that the game is yet to be released in several key territories.

"We have hundreds upon hundreds of thousands playing every night. Comparing to just normal drop-off post release of a WoW expansion, Diablo III has been very solid, and it's not even out in China yet," he said.

Diablo III became the fastest selling PC game of all time when it released in May, shifting 3.5 million copies within 24 hours. Our original review found the game to be amazing, though a bunch of our editors recently sat down to discuss how their experiences have progressed since then.
