Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Are you talking about the very first quest??

What difficulty? Hell? I just ran through the wretched mothers quest on normal and got less than 2,000k xp including the xp you get for finishing the quest.

wretched witches? which act was that one? cant remember it

Ya, it's the first quest. In Hell, you get about 60-70k on the walk up and 44k when you complete the quest.
You want to try to kill as many monsters at one go to get the bonuses.

Its pretty easy to solo level from 15 up

-Buy a bunch of socketed items for cheap <5k each
-Buy 2 Flawless Square Ruby for helmet and weapon < 1k each
-Buy Flawless Square (your main stat gem) for everything else <1k each
-Find IAS or + damage rings and amulet
-Find IAS gloves
-Follow main quest only so you progress to higher and higher level monsters

This shows where its best to level up per act because you can get up to 125% experience for killing higher level monsters (but make sure you can steam roll them, taking 5 min to kill a normal mob 5 lvls higher is not fast exp). Staying in the same place over and over yields less and less exp. Just buy some gear for cheap on the AH, and keep pushing through.

http://gaming.stackexchange.com/que...mines-how-much-experience-you-get-from-a-kill

Also running with character more than 5 levels apart starts yielding diminishing returns for exp. So if you were being boosted by a 60, even though you're steamrolling it you're getting approximately only 5% of the max exp you can get.

You must've been in Nightmare for a long ass time to hit 60 in there. With the diminishing returns for being the upper 50s in nightmare, you'd be getting like 1-5% of total experience per kill

I went to hell when I got to 50 and just ran the first quest a bunch of times.

I did notice that you stop getting xp per kill when you are too high of a level for the area you are in, so I'd move on.

As a W it is better to stack DPS and burn everything down before you even get hit.

Obviously their are packs of elites that everyone is having troubles with (invul, reflect, soul rippers). But if you can get 100k dps on your wizard you will melt everything before it can hit you.

Attack speed and venom hydra/blizzard with MM/charged and Arcane orb/tap the source, Magic Weapon/force Weapon, Familiar /Sparkflint.

Roll through inferno (this is not a solo build. Solo is boring IMO).

Oh ok, I follow you now. I soloed the whole game and there is no way that build would have worked by myself. In a group I could see the potential.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be able to make a profit on this item.

^wth?

I'll buy stuff that's much lower than the going rate even if it's not what I'm looking for, but I think this one takes the cake.

EDIT:

Damn, just took a look. Nothing under 10 million that matches this dps.

Hell, no 1-handed axe on the auction house has a higher dps. Early April Fool's?

Yeah, I don't know what the guy was thinking. Either he was quitting the game and didn't give a shit, or he thought he was in the RMAH and meant to put it up for $200. If it's the latter (and I bet it is), I would hate to be him right now.

Perhaps the amount of suck on his end is proportional to the amount of joy the guy (you) on the other end is receiving right now. ;)

I'm having a blast leveling other classes.

1-14 is boring, once i get to 15 and get all gemmed up its fun steamrolling.

Finished normal in about 4.5 hours on my barbarian (lvl 31). I basically held frenzy down (you move to that direction when there is no target), and kept sprint up going everywhere.

I got a WD though normal too, I'll probably roll up a monk and DH through normal then bring all of them up through nightmare.

Where do you guys find the high dps items? I hardly ever get crap.

On another note, anyone feel like doing some coop goober runs? :p

That would be quite an awful mistake to make. Normally you'd have to manually select paypal from the drop-down box if you wanted to cash out on the sale too. Either he was really that braindead when listing the item, or he wanted a nice chunk of cash in his bnet balance.

Youre so lucky man. I think its obvious he meant to list it for $200 not 200 gold lol.

Thats obviously worth quite a bit more than 200 gold.

that 1H axe could be $250+ after the patch 1.03 IAS nerf (assuming the rumored #s are true)

LOL. What a stroke of luck

On that subject, I'm surprised that people are paying more than the game's price itself for an in-game item. Now its either I hunt my own 1k dps weapon or I'll never own one at all.

You can still buy stuff on the gold AH. Plenty of high dps weapons for much gold.

Couple of my friends cashed out for $500+ and are pretty much done with the game.

I spent a week away on business and didn't touch the game at all. Walking away and coming back makes you realize how unnecessarily tedious the game is. I haven't sold any of my stuff though hoping I can come back and play some day. The game's pretty much over for me right now since my close group of friends have stopped playing. My more casual friends stopped a long while ago.

Their nerf to IAS is going too far and has largely discouraged me from playing since I spent a ton on a 1350 dps xbow with ias on it. They're pretty much going to cut ias on weapons in half at least... sometimes much more. I was OK with an ias nerf as long as they didn't touch the weapons. However, they went too far this time.

While it sucks for people who have invested in IAS, I do understand why its getting nerfed. As it is now its the most important stat in weapon, or hell in any item (after vitality in armor), leaving your chars driving stat behind unless its really high in that said weapon.

I think instead of nerfing the number that comes on gear, adding diminishing returns would have been better. Like how it was in D2.

The idea was to balance it with other stats. For example +15% ias dwarfed the other stats in terms of itemization on certain armor pieces. This makes no sense on weapons. The highest DPS on weapons were achieved with +dmg and +%dmg. IAS was used to push it even further. The best weapons had ALL of the necessary stats to contribute to the final DPS number. For their purpose of balancing itemization stat costs, nerfing IAS on weapons was mind boggling. It actually contributed the least to weapon DPS. I'm miffed because now my weapon which relied on the IAS stat to have the DPS it does (it has a relatively low +%dmg and +dmg), is now relatively much worse than what I paid for it. Good grief Blizzard.

A hard cap on IAS would have made much more sense. They have a hard cap on move speed, why not do the same for IAS. This way instead of ALL of my gear now becoming worse, I can swap one or two pieces and still have the same effectiveness I did before.

Because now you have to replace all of your gear. I mean, yeah, if we were designing it, a hard cap would make sense. But the whole idea is to make you replace all of your gear. Preferably using the rmah.

I doubt that's the main idea... but at any rate, the IAS nerf may hurt some people. I think, however, since it's a blanket nerf you'll still likely be wearing what's best for you if you're geared out like crazy right now.

the problem is that Blizzard does not want to make things too complicated for their D3 customer base meaning they think the D3 customer base is full of casuals & stupid which is the reason for the straight reduction instead of cap or diminishing returns

the BS part of it are the RMAH buyers that spent $ on stuff like Lacuni Prowlers, Boj Anglers, Andariel's Visage which will be seeing a noticeable devaluation when the IAS is implemented

Ya I understand what you are saying. I was thinking the same thing that diminishing returns would be to complicated as well. Problem is...the only people left playing are the more hardcore players. All of the casuals already quit and/or got a refund lol.

ANyone know if anybody has created an Auctioneer (like from wow)-like app for DIII's auction house? A legit one?

Yeah initially I thought IAS nerfs were going to be jewelry/armor only, not weapon. Some people have spent millions (or since the RMAH, dozens of dollars) on good, fast 1h or high dmg 2h (which guess what - probably have a ton of IAS).

Weapon IAS nerf was quite unexpected tbh and Blizzard is creating dangerous new precedents in this patch.

I haven't been following the changes very closely. Why are they doing this? Do they think that inferno is too easy or something?

Dont worry, Inferno is getting some fixes too. As it is now its terribly unbalanced, majority of people hitting a brickwall in Act 2 (or if they are lucky, Act 3 atleast). Not to mention going waaay overboard with some of the elite mob and affix combinations. Not sure if that one is getting finetunes though, but I hope it does (Soul Lashers, anyone?) for it is number 1 complaint about the inferno. Encountering practically impossible combination in tight corrider which you HAVE to pass through is not fun, forcing you to reroll the level and waste the nephalem valor you had built with your blood up to that point and so on...

So my barb at lvl 58 is getting stalled in Act 3 of Hell.... Getting really frustrated and I have almost the highest dps weapon available on the auction house.

Anyone want to help?

How is your VIT and armor? Are you dualwielding? (because that is not generally recommended at this point of the game) Do you have elective mode to give you full freedom on what skills you can choose on what slot?

Anybody wanting to play inferno together hit me up battletag: farkedup#1250 I have a monk and a wiz. I just blew through act 1 on my wiz without any real troubles but now act 2 I'm getting 1 shot by those lil dudes lobbing grenades and I cant seem to avoid them very well since I'm usually watching those stupid bugs when those guys pop up and gut me! 20k damage and 17k life right this second. I've mostly been investing in resist all trying to prepare for things but even with more than 50% resistance I'm getting killed too fast so I'm wondering if vit should have been targeted over resistance

Wait 'til inferno, it gets really fun for barbs. I'm level 60 with 15k dps, 70k hp, 9k armor, and 600 all res. A2 is still ridiculously difficult while A1 is too easy. The difficulty jump between acts is just so poorly implemented.

I was running around 500 resist when i started to act 2, Wizard 17-20k dps. You just need enough resist/armor/hp that force armor will take everything above the 35% hp mark (I dont know the numbers you need for act 2 damage). It's a slow and rough process to progress through acts 2-4, dont expect to take many hits even with 600+ resist.

Change all of those gems to purple ones. You need vitality. Spec revenge to proc 30% of the time. Since it gives you a set % of your total life for every mob hit, you basically can't die when surrounded.

Make sure your passives are the ones that increase armor by the 25% and 100% of vitality. You can take either inspiring presence or superstition. I went with the 20% elemental reduction while leveling. I also had nearly full reduced lvl requirement gear, though. :)

Edit: Also, ignore pain specced to 7 seconds is hugely useful. You can level with just frenzy or cleave, you don't need another attack skill. I did my aoe damage with revenge and just focused burned a mob at a time. (Revenge will be up pretty much all the time anyways.)

Won't that completely kill my DPS then? Right now I have it set to gain 30% when at max fury and a few other dps ones.

Not really. Done right you can actually switch to a 2h and still take less damage. Lemme add you in game I might have some gems I can give you so you can try.

so after 10 butcher runs on inferno without a single death I thought I'd venture into act 2... well All I can say is witch is dead and escaped to the sewer but WOW have I died a ton of times so far in act 2. This is insane how I can dominate act 1 then the second I hit act 2 I do nothing but die! I'm a wizard.. anybody have some suggestions for what to roll with as a single player and multi player? so far in A2 everybody I come across is actually dieing more than I am. I revived guys 9 times during the witch fight all while kiting things around the pillars and dropping my venom hydra
