Destiny - Discussion Thread

Not sure if it has been mentioned already but Motes of Light levels your gear up super quickly. With a telemetry, you can level your weapon to max in seconds.

So, picked up the Warlock exotic helm Xur was selling last weekend, and needed to farm spinmetal (didn't want to use LM for them).

Luckily my new ghost shell was upgraded with the ability to mark the locations, super handy! It took me no time at all to farm the necessary spinmetal using that. A lot better than trying to memorize farming runs on youtube.

I'm definitely impressed with Destiny now, I'm getting a similar vibe to it as I did for Phantasy Star Online for DC (which I really enjoyed).

One thing that I'd love to see is certain weapon actions (ie: assault rifle reload speed, weapon switching speed, etc) being assigned via a character skill tree instead of to the weapon.

The new raid is pretty fun. The group was all first timers organized through the100.io and although it took us a while to figure some spots out it was a good time. We only ended up making it to the second boss before calling it a night so no raid armor dropped. Did manage to get the sniper though.

Did the same thing last night just so I can get a drop before reset. Didn't get to beat Golgoroth, but I did get a rocket launcher after Warpriest. I like the new jumping "puzzle" that the raid has but my god is it hard to triple jump as a hunter to one of the ships.

I'm at around 245 light, but every remaining solo mission is still marked as Hard, and they are in fact pretty damn hard. Just way too many enemies to face alone.

Is there any matchmaking for those missions? Or am I stuck running endless strikes until my light gets even higher and I can finally solo them? Do the Heroic Dailies have matchmaking?

Do the level 36 strikes. I think you only need light level 240 to do them. Also when decrypting engrams make sure you do it one at a time and check the light level of each item. Equip them regardless of stats (they don't matter as much as getting your light level higher). Always equip highest light level gear before decrypting your items (one by one). This way it will speed up the way you level, drastically.

The 36 strikes are what I've been doing, from 200ish to where I am now. I had hoped there'd be something new to do by 245, either the remaining missions or some of the daily stuff, but I guess you need a lot more than 245 for those.

Damned Cryptarch got me good last night. Had enough LM for a Legendary engram from him. Picked the engram with the Chest piece imagery, thinking that's the type of piece I'd get. He gives me a legendary artifact - that I already had!

I then dismantled it for 3 LM.

I went from 190 light level to 288 in a week. Doing the dailies, 36 strikes, and quests. I used three of coins on boss fights. Doing the one at a time cryptarch is the way to go. Surpringly, I got exotics/legendaries from blues and purples. Just last night I got lucky and got a 300 weapon from completing a quest.

Only two of those days did I play for more than 3 hours.

I didn't know about the Three of Coins... I'll have to buy that next weekend. I've been doing the one-at-a-time thing already.

All I can really do in terms of farming is the 36 strikes, though. The remaining 3 missions I have and the heroic daily are too difficult for me solo.

The other option is hanging around the Court of Oryx on dreadnaught patrol. If there is a good crowd there you can burn through a lot of runes and get 2-3 engrams per rune. Otherwise if it is empty it will be tough to solo. If you don't have runes some should drop while you help others kill bosses.

Have you "defeated" Oryx through the story yet?

Also, I would work on doing the quest. You get random upgrade for completing them.

Paradox is a bitch. It really is a two person thing. An extra body is just helpful.

The first few on the Dreadnaught aren't too bad. Most of those are merely getting to a certain area.

I am getting bored again. I hit about 240+ light and nothing in the game is truly grabbing my attention. Also it seems not many people play crucible anymore.

I've never had an issue finding players in the crucible. The issue I've run into is only 2 people getting match made for a heroic strike. That fucking sucks with just 2 people...

The strikes need some re-working. All the heroics have the same modifier, they need to make it random or keep fresh troops but add a random modifier on top of it. Plus there are only the reworked strikes in the play list and it is getting stale.

Crucible I have never had troubles but I usually stick to the mode of the day or mode of the week. Hopefully Iron Banner comes back soon and then you will have no issues finding a match if you enjoy Control.

Played some great games of skirmish in the Crucible, that's probably becoming my favourite match type.

Also, Mayhem Clash was a hoot, very spammy, but it was a nice diversion from the normal Clash.

As someone who only got to light level 22 and played the main original game (haven't touched the first two expansions). What should I do if I pick up TTK?

Is it going to be self explanatory? Have they simplified all the materials and crap?

I would just work on completing the SP stuff up to fighting Oryx. You should be 39/40 by the end of it, if you also do bounties. Once completed, I would do Vanguard Strikes, Bounties, and Quests.

Just beat Oryx myself last night and hit 40 in the process.
Props to Destiny devs, that last fight was pretty awesome. I died a few times after the shift from the cave to that white island part, trying to figure out the rhythm and rules of the level.

Yeah, it was a good campaign. The NPC dialogue was entertaining too. I can honestly say I don't remember much at all about the original Destiny campaign, it was too disjointed and just not very memorable.

I'll probably start a new character and go through the original content (I skipped the two expansion packs), just to get the background of what's going in this suddenly interesting universe.

Look, if it has Nathan Fillion involved, I'm sold. The cliffhanger at the end was also kind of interesting, both in terms of Oryx, Eris Mon and the thing in the sword. Now, I just need to start grinding up my gear a little, and start getting into the PVP.

For anyone interested, I created a HardForum Destiny community on the PS4. It is open for anyone, but if you'd like to be manually added then just leave your PSN name here!

If I can find it through that horrible algorithm of Top 100 it shows me... I can't even find the Reddit one!

if you are only 240 you have barely done anything completed any quests and even attempted any high level activities. some really cool quests and character specific stuff that gets your better gear and exotic weapons. you can hit 240+ just wearing blue gear from basic drops.

crucible has plenty of players rift is always packed and when mayhem comes up that shit is awesome.

its official... ive done everything i can do right now for pve until hard mode comes out... i guess i can run the nightfall and raid every week and try to get to 310 :/

Thanks! So far 10 minutes in and already the playstation store kinda sucks. Added the collectors edition code and was still trying to make me pay for it. After some googling I found someone suggesting to restore your liscense a on the ps4, did that and it downloaded the collectors edition no problems, kinda sucks. What if I wasn't someone capable of looking up what I needed?

Oh well, 5gb into the 18gb patch for destiny then I can try it out, 45 minutes to go! lol

Yeah some stuff on the PlayStation is just stupid the store being one and get get me started on how sub accounts work. Luckily for them the system itself is good but those things are what keep my PlayStation purchases to exclusives only. I have two Xbox ones that my son and I use for all major games that we both want to play. Glad you figured it out if you want to play destiny on PS4 I'm MrBenchmark on PSN.

Played a bit of Destiny today. Was a decent run. Got an exotic chest out of a legendary drop and invective shotgun out of an exotic drop. Also got legendary helmet and purchase an engram from crytarch troll that got me a 260 legs. Was so pissed about that one.

Still level 259 light but damn the grind is strong in this one.

Soooooooooo this worth picking up now? Played through original campaign and got to twenty... didn't do any raids and seemed like I was playing the same levels over and over and over... it better now?

Each expansion has been an improvement with the taken kind being a huge jump in there being an actual story now. I'm enjoying he taken king a lot so far

It's much better. The loot drops are so much better now that I tend to get about 50% Rares, 30% Commons and 20% purples. Most of your legendary gear can be bought using Legendary Marks which are super easy to attain. There's also the gunsmith weekly which gives you a free high end legendary every week. Exotics aren't impossible to attain now since strange coins drop literally everywhere that by the time Xur comes around I usually have about 30-50 collected throughout the week and I don't even play that much. Xur also sells a new item that comes in stacks of 5 that buffs your chance of getting an exotic off a boss kill which scales up with every use/kill (but doesn't stack so using all 5 at once doesn't work).

The game is much better and getting to raid gear status only took me about a week of casual playing. As far as the raid, I can't comment because I haven't gotten around to trying it yet but the game is much better than it was before and PvP has many more game modes to keep me entertained. But there's only so much you can do at end game so there's that.
