Destiny - Discussion Thread

I still find the game really fun.. but I knew what I was getting into coming in the game, I didn't expect any grandiose MMO style game because that's not what it is. I also really enjoy the gunplay, and crucible is actually fun to me. I really like Control a lot... so does my rocket launcher ;).

you keep saying its not an MMO when people have pointed out over and over again that that is exactly what bungie is trying to make it. 10+ hour raids only exist in MMO's, the amount of resource grinding only exists in MMO's and maybe some ARPGs like diablo 3. The token turn ins for gear and grinding for those tokens and reputation to buy said items only exists in MMO's.

Im currently level 24 and spend 80% of my time in game shooting the cave. The lowest level area..

I have picked up 3 purples from that and all my gear.

Nothing good from the missions, strikes, or pvp yet.

its kind of sad. I have also managed to finish everything but the raid so far.

Why can it not be a genre of its own? I see it more akin to an aRPG han an mmo. Its not massive by any means.

Its like people calling borderlands an mmo

It could just be a TMO

Tiny Multi-player online

It basically has everything of a new mmo minus the massively part and text based questing system. They are trying to nitpick the parts of mmo's that people get addicted to but avoid the label of it.

Lol god forbid people voice a concern about a game on a game forum. I wish these complaints had popped up before I purchased it, I use the forums as a good review of a game so I appreciate shit like this. If you looking to fanboi all over this game go to the official forums, tons of people their doing that.

Dude it is totally ok not liking a game for you or for others. This does not make the game bad, or developers somehow stupid. Me liking the game does not make me a fan boy. It is a personal choice. It is like you coming out and complaining that indian food is too hot, well me and millions of other people actually like hot food and your personal opinion on the subject truly does not matter nor makes indian food liking people indian food fanboys.

Man what a bunch of bitches here, stop complaining and don't play the game if you don't like it. I am having the time of my life playing this game but felt like borderlands/COD was the biggest waste of money.....Stop crying and go play something else, nobody is forcing you.

Waaaaah somebody doesn't like what I like!

The game can be fun for a lot of people, but the concerns being voiced by many are fairly solid complaints. They are not nit picks either. There are serious flaws which just shouldn't happen.

There are a lot of things Bungie promised and simply failed to deliver much less even try to do. The angry joe review drove home that point by having clips of the developers and developer quotes.

Well, for those that DO like the game. If you are on PSN feel free to add me or follow my group/clan. If we play around the same time I can get you in my Clan if you send a request.
KAOS
Level 27 myself. Still trying to get Ascendant Shards so I can upgrade my equipment so I can squeeze 28 out of my armor.
If you just want to follow and compare stats and you are on a different system, here is my Warlock. Valdarious

Your warlock is almost a duplicate of mine, and I'm also waiting on ascendent shards.

I managed to farm up enough of the world mats that I don't have to farm anymore for a long while (~100 of each item), gotta get an exotic weapon mission to spawn though.

After playing Fire spec for a while (which I initially hated), I can't go back to Void.

Serious flaws? Like you are not getting drops you want? You are not getting legendary stuff within one week of playing? You have to grind to get stuff? They are part of the game.

I don't see what things Bungie promised and "failed" to deliver. What did they promise exactly? Hold your hands through the game?

Oh the irony coming from you.

See vanilla D3. The core of the game is good, gunplay etc. However, when you can dump hours to get an engram to drop and it is still shit that is a problem.

I can see Bungie needing to over haul the loot system much like they did in D3.

Pretty much just started playing last week. So far, I have had a pretty darn good time. Missions are decent length, PVP is optional if a little shallow (reminds me a LOT of Mass Effect), and the graphics are impressive. I've got a level 10 exo Warlock, that has been a lot of fun. The levels bring enough improvements, and guns leveling as you use them doesn't hurt.
Haven't done a lot of group play yet, largely because I can't figure out how to invite or lfg, but so far so good.

I still see bitching about the loot system. I dumped hours into the game and I got a legendary auto rifle from maybe 20 purple engrams. Legendary armors? None I can use so I buy them at the vendor. Problem solved.

You can't always rely on your luck. Sometimes you have to work for it.

Your completely ignoring every other complaint about the game.

1) The idiotic fact that i cant even try to join a strike or go directly to a mission from the tower

2) The information provided in the menu system is a joke, why can't i see what my reputation for any faction is? Or my x/x of my weekly marks?

3) NO PROXIMITY CHAT in a game that was advertised as being highly social

4) No voice chat in strikes with randoms

5) Players that leave are RARELY if EVER replaced in strikes

6) The double roll system is beyond idiotic. Your 5% chance of getting a legendary engram just turned into a 2.5% chance of being an actual legendary (made up percentages)

7) No Pugs for weekly heroics

8) No useful in game clan features

9) Absolutely horrific mission design

10) Boring world design, where every mission seems to start out at the same place and you just run to a different area on the map

.
.
.

theres more that i just don't feel like listing right now

1) valid point

2) just go to your faction vendor for your faction rep. Your marks are in the navigation menu.

3) I don't use mic, so meh. I could see this feature could be useful for some.

4) see #3

5) meh

6) meh, you can just grind and buy your legendary stuff if you don't get lucky.

7) what the hell are Pugs?

8) what are your suggestions?

9) subjective

10) subjective. Some variety would be nice.

9 and 10 are in NO way subjective. Every single mission is a carbon copy of the other in a different location. Find console, use ghost, defend waves. Thats every single and i mean every single mission structure.

Going to my faction vendor means i have to go through 4 horrible and unnecessary loading screens to leave my mission, go into orbit, go to the tower, go back into orbit, go back into a mission

Hey now! Be fair - sometimes the missions end with a boss (normally a super sized version of a major enemy). :p

My complaint about the reputation let me expand on.

If im out grinding patrols, i want to know what my reputation is currently at. Lets say im at 1300 rep and i need 1500, i can look at that and see that oh hey i have 3 bounties completed, 2 for 50 rep, and 1 for 100 rep so im done! You cant do that right now, its just guess work on when you should go to the tower to turn in your bounties which means enduring as i said before all those load screens

Other than the occasional boss - literally every mission is the same thing. Run to spot, Dinklage phones in a few comments, kill waves of enemies, repeat 2-3 times and the level is over.

I don't think I understand this kind of game as people keep wanting to get better loot...but I haven't really figured out why. You're getting items that help you do better at a game you aren't enjoying? Wut?

I have one more mission to complete on Mars and one I'm done with it, I'll probably shelve this game until they overhaul it like Diablo III.

1) The idiotic fact that i cant even try to join a strike or go directly to a mission from the tower

Agreed. Global Agenda had a nice system where you can be in queue for a PVE or PVP mission while going about your business in its 'hub world'.

2) The information provided in the menu system is a joke, why can't i see what my reputation for any faction is? Or my x/x of my weekly marks?

This is currently one of my top pet peeves. A little icon appears showing your current rep progression after a mission, but if you miss it - you'll need to go back to your faction vendor. Absolutely infuriating. Can easily be fixed, though.

3) NO PROXIMITY CHAT in a game that was advertised as being highly social
4) No voice chat in strikes with randoms

Huge issue. Mind you, even if you could talk to randoms you meet in a world, it's not like you could easily join up in a group because of the current fireteam setup. I can understand trying to protect users from offensive chat, but the major consoles (afaik) all have parental features that can protect sensitive users.

5) Players that leave are RARELY if EVER replaced in strikes

Haven't run into this issue yet, but it would definitely be a kick in the ass to have it happen, especially when the rewards for completing strikes are nowhere near the reward of camping the loot cave for an hour.

6) The double roll system is beyond idiotic. Your 5% chance of getting a legendary engram just turned into a 2.5% chance of being an actual legendary (made up percentages)

Yar, though this is fabulous trolling on Bungie's part and has made some entertaining parodies.

7) No Pugs for weekly heroics

8) No useful in game clan features

Agreed to both. The lack of ingame clan features is especially glaring - we're paying $60-70 for this game and should be able to have a complete experience, not relying on additional platforms to access more features.

9) Absolutely horrific mission design

10) Boring world design, where every mission seems to start out at the same place and you just run to a different area on the map

The world design very much reminds me of Super Mario 64's level structure. You have different missions (or Stars in Super Mario) in a world to complete (or collect), and once you finished one mission (found a star), you go back to your starship (or hub world) and jump back into the same world to complete the next mission (or collect the next star).

Personally for Destiny I would've just preferred a more fluid questing system, just make me go through a quest chain instead of making me go back to the beginning of the world over and over again. But I guess that would really eat up the time it takes to complete the main story.

I started doing a lot of PvP bounties for Crucible rep. I seriously don't remember the last time I've had this much fun in a straight team deathmatch. I think it boils down to going back to the basics much like Halo, while adding just enough extra little features to make it interesting.

Despite my passive defecits of being level 11 while most others playing are level 22+, I could still hold my own. A lot of close matches that usually came down to a 200-300 point difference. It's amazing how many people are completely reliant on the motion tracker. Most of the time if I just stay crouched in a corner people stroll on by, oblivious :D.

And I know rep doesn't come into usefullness until level 20+, but by the time I reach just Rank 1 in rep I will have already been level 20 for quite some time, let alone Rank 3 :p.

Yes, the game has quite a few major flaws with it, but I am having a great time ;).

The difference being 10 minutes of load times in destiny, and at least in super Mario 64 the levels changed as you completed stars.

There is a difference. I'm enjoying the game. You are not enjoying the game. So, stop playing (and complaining) and go play Diablo 3.

Your not just enjoying the game your shilling for it. Refusing to acknowledge issues within the game is just that. Also not wanting people to post glaring issues with it is the same as censorship. These boards exists for people to point out positive and negatives, not fucking advertise for it

Who are you for to decide who enjoy what and who doesn't? I enjoy this game. I don't care if you don't enjoy the game. It doesn't affect me. Bitching gets old. I get on the board to talk about the game with those who actually play it (and enjoy it). If they don't enjoy it, then they should just stop playing it. Simple?

Is anybody stopping you from doing that? If you dont like the trend of the thread dont post in it. Simple?

If people just sit back and don't post their feelings, the company will just continue to pump out crap and other gamers will go out and buy more bad (or at least flawed) games.
Destiny isn't the worst game ever and I've had fun with it at times. However there are so many issues with it you can ignore them.
When the community spoke Blizzard ended up fixing Diablo 3. Hopefully Bungie will do the same...and hopefully it won't require paid DLC to do it.

If you want to discuss the game then discuss it dont come in here to pick a fight with people who are talking about negative points that many people agree with. Thats what you did initially and why your getting the reactions you did. I still play the game, I still enjoy it, but that doesn't mean I don't see the issues with it. Telling people to stop posting negatively about the game because you enjoy it isn't going to get you anywhere, instead of picking a fight just post something about the game in a positive manner and youll get the responses you want.

I have a level 25 warlock with 3 legendaries all of which i bought from crusader marks, I've played enough to do that, and have yet to see a single legendary drop, and that is an issue. I've only even gotten 2-3 legendary engrams and all of them from the cryptarch and none of them decoded into a legendary. It is a legitimate complaint, dont just discount everyone elses complaints.

And Destiny is not that far from being a great game either. It really just needs a loot 2.0 type of update. Change the loot system, add better side missions, increase the level cap and rework end game. That's really all it needs to be a very good game.

I agree that drops are just luck and it may seem insane that the cryptarch has to decode the seemingly rare purple engram and a legendary weapon is a low chance of the outcome. I think people are quick to learn you are not supposed to get excited from purple engrams until you see what comes out of them. I have only one legendary weapon from the crytarch and 3 of my legendary armors are from the FWC vendor. I've learned that relying on luck is not the way of playing this game. It will frustrate the hell out of you. Relying on luck is a mistake. Luck is useless. Luck doesn't care who you are. I would have issue if there is no other way to acquire legendary items. Thankfully there are vendors who sell you those given you have enough rep. Earning rep is not hard. Do daily bounties, strikes, and crucibles. They are fun enough for me to continue playing the game. Getting a legendary weapon from an engram is just an icing on the cake. Once you have high enough rep to buy legendary stuff, you no longer care about legendary drops. You'll start caring about the items required to level your legendary gear.

Yeah that's called corner camping. Not exactly something to be proud of.

Global Agenda had a nice system where you can be in queue for a PVE or PVP mission while going about your business in its 'hub world'.

I just finished the campaign and hit level 20, finished every strike, etc. and if there's one thing that really stood out on the long list of "WTF, Bungie?" screwups, it is that they couldn't see fit to make a co-op queueing or drop-in system for PvE for the story missions, the way they did for strike missions. Trying to team up with randoms in the Tower hub is pretty much pointless since fireteams are defaulted to friends-only. My friends were never on at the same time, so playing the story missions with randoms would have been much more fun than slogging through solo. The strike missions were co-op fun and the revive mechanic brought back some sweet L4D2 memories, but also highlighted the absence of co-op in the campaign missions. Yeah, yeah, "its the campaign" but its also where most of the playerbase will spend its gametime.

If it weren't for the fact that Gearbox got a drop-in co-op system in Borderlands completely right, on a shoestring budget, 6 years ago, I probably wouldn't be half as annoyed.

Grinding armor to "level up" further past lvl20 quickly revealed itself to be pointless, or at least not worth my time, since it would require doing the same things ad infinitum. So I'm effectively done with the game. Maybe in a month I'll start another class from lvl1. I tried a dozen rounds of PvP and did okay but ultimately realized that I already got the Halo jumping around the map TDM thing out of my system many years ago. I'm sure the squeakers that were still in diapers when Halo was at its peak circa 2007 are enjoying Destiny PvP because its new to them.

I really wish that the PVP was a lot more like halo3 multiplayer. I'm only level 15, but it seems that even with the level advantage disabled, the gun advantage still weighs heavily in favor of the higher level players.

I really want to like it, but the game that is supposed to be a staple for the system isn't really holding it together as much as I would like. I'm honestly considering switching to xbone, getting the master chief collection and halo 6, and being happy. This is my first ride with Sony, so I'd like to see them do well. I'm just having trouble holding on.

Why did you get a PS4? Are you aware Destiny is on both systems?

Cod ghosts was my first foray into console fps. I'm enjoying Destiny a lot. I should add, I've been playing fps since the first Wolfenstein 3D, Blake stone, etc. So I enjoy fps PvP a whole lot and really enjoy crucible here. Then again, I usually do very well :D
