Destiny - Discussion Thread

Kinda surprised at the poor reviews/bashing Destiny is getting. I put the game down and started to peek around online after a friend told me he was trading in his copy for Diablo 3.
 
The game has let me down, damn hype train. I thought you would play on more worlds and have more missions per world. I didn't even understand the story until I was done and went online. Thought I was fighting the darkness, then I see factions fighting them selves, ask my friend why, and he had no idea. The main story part of the game just seems so tiny and afterwards your expected to just play the old boards over and over, increasing difficulty. Blah. There is a bunch they need to add but hey, that's what paid dlc is for. Oh and did people get a lot of open world events? I only ran into 2-3 and I just hit 20.

A few events will trigger regularly every hour (i.e 2:10pm, 3:10pm, etc.) so you will catch a few if you are out doing patrols. They are an excellent way to farm marks and upgrade materials for legendary equipment.

Go back to Earth and do patrol missions. Get some of those patrol bounties before going there. I was always around 1 or 2 levels higher than any of the missions before going in. Getting those bounties done for Vanguard is where a lot of XP will start to dump on you.
 
I have a lvl 15 Hunter and a lvl 18 Warlock. I'm really enjoying the game. The repetition of the missions is being offset by how good the gunplay feels. The lower frequency of loot drops kind of makes it feel a bit more significant when it does drop. Being able to level up and unlock traits to weapons and armour is quite nice, too.
 
So just got a refund from Microsoft for the game. Between the problems With the game (load screens and PvP balance) and the disconnecting from the bungie servers they just refunded my money.

I havent had any connection issues, maybe i just dont play at peak times :/ either way good on microsoft to refund it

Ya wasnt at first, just been the last few days I've been having drops. Tried to fix it, even went as far to move modem to living room and bypass router and still no luck. In a few months if the game is still alive I'll pick it up again.

I have to connect to the Tower 2-3 times before it ever works.
The Tower is the worst by far. Sometimes I'll get dropped out of the blue. It's usually only a minor issue when connected to in game, but last night was pretty bad for in game too. Got dropped a few times in the middle of strikes.
 
I get disconnected about once a day (playing about 2 hours a day). My only complaint is the loot drops are kind of lame, but I understand it is what it is. The story was hugely disappointing, but I feel like a lot of the hate for the game is people playing by themselves. Playing with friends with voice chat is some of the most fun I've had in a long time. It's basically a not as good borderlands in my opinion....
 
Ive had zero issues but have have great internet and great home equipment. You guys that don't like just move on already like this is the first game somebody was disappointed with. I like it lots of others do too just move on hell I felt this way about dishonored but I didn't bitch about it in page after page in a forum.

You don't get to dictate to others what they talk about.

Just because YOU don't have issues, doesn't mean others don't.
 
You guys with issues what system? Live had one 45 minute hiccup last weekend been solid otherwise.

Otherwise what ISP what speed internet you can't just blame the game.

There is a lot in this game and more to come hell they already updated the game so more public events happen. Between the alpha and beta how the hell did you not know what this game was about? Leveling and loot a plenty is easy plenty of easy tips out there.
 
The netcode in this game is utter trash. The amount of post-mortem kills with gunfire I get entire seconds after I'm dead is ridiculous, and bad hit notification.

Also, what the hell determines which players get gear after a crucible match?

Not trying to hate but I think that it might show that if the majority of players are not having an issue with it then it probably isnt the game but how you are connected to the game.
I have never been disconnected from the servers. I play on EST and around prime time. I know the tower takes the longest to load in but that is because all the people running around, it has to attribute all the connections before it will figure out where to put you and others on the screen.
If you never get dissed on other games then maybe Destiny IS a bigger drain on bandwidth but that is still a bandwidth issue and not necessarily their problem. Could also mean you are getting pushed to servers with others no where near you geographically.
I am no networking genius but I do know a little bit about it, so this could just be a big puff of smoke up my ass, lol.

Would it be frowned upon to make another Destiny thread with people that actually like and play the game? This thread is mostly about people complaining and I know there are others that love the game.

The complain about the issues. The constant bashing of the game over every little thing is getting old. Trolling threads is lame and gets old after a while. Those of us who are enjoying the game would like a place to discuss the game without the constant bitch fest.
 
Yar, so far Destiny has been very stable for me network-wise (performance-wise too, it's been very smooth even under large firefights).

Didn't have a chance to play last night, but I'm only a few Crucible points away from my first piece of Crucible armour.

Tried my hand at using the Sunsinger in PVP, probably not the best PVP build (I was placing near the bottom of the score board and the Radiance abilities didn't seem to help my team all that much). PVE was quite a bit more useful, though, the Radiance abilities (making teammates special recharge quicker) seemed to make boss fights a bit more manageable.

I actually find quite a bit of loot in strike missions despite what people are saying. Enjoying the game quite a bit, but yeah don't get the hate some people are putting on this -- if they have played the alpha and beta.. I knew what I was going into. The gunplay and action is much more solid than the other "AAA" game on Xbone. Atleast I'm still excited to turn Destiny on other than the other one. My buddies are all slowly gearing up to level 24.. then hoping we can deck ourselves out in Legendary gear from lvl 24 strikes. Hoping by next weekend we can see our first raid!
 
I'm digging the game, but I'm frustrated at the MP.
Everyone seems to be really good, or I just really suck. First MP i can't get a grasp of.
I think my K/D is like .5 after 30-40 rounds, lmfao smh

Level advantages aren't technically disabled. So if you are much lower level than some folks, they already have their passives unlocked and CAN/WILL steamroll you. That or they are camping at good chokepoints and just sniping you all out.
 
Strangely, I'm having a blast. A lot more fun when grouping up with friends.

What did it for me were the strike missions and the crucible. Definitely a blast once at a higher level - I do not recommend trying it until level 15 or higher.

I'm level 18 Titan right now and I'm getting schooled.

What's the best MP weapon to use?
Scout rifle is my favorite for PVE but seems to not be so worthy in PVP.
Although in certain situations, every gun has it's pros and cons.

Auto rifle seems to be legit, but I need a better one, the one I have has too much recoil.
 
Look for a Shingen-C for now if you can at the vendor. Its one of the better auto rifles for PVP.

Its the one I prefer as the recoil is really low, and fire rate is near maximum. I just wish I found a blue or purple Shingen :(. I only use auto rifles/sniper in crucible.
 
Aim Assist is your friend in this game, once you "lock on" to a player, you can make much smaller adjustments to your sights and it'll continue snapping, especially on their heads... its a matter of getting the initial placement of your reticle, and you'll get better at it with practice.

Last night I was getting some very strange connection issues, my brother and I were in a group, we queue'd for Control, we both joined a game that was mid-way through, brother disconnected instantly, along with another random person, I played through, was 2min before match end, and I get DC'd randomly. Joined another game and got DC'd again randomly. This was ~10pm EST.

I find it annoying I can do 20min of farming lvl 20 Oryx and get 5x the loot as completing a lvl 22 strike which takes more time...and from what i read this isn't even the most efficient farm method!
 
There is an article on the Hard main page for you guys that think the network issues are a fairy tale.
These issues are annoying but the game is really fun and I'm level 22 at the moment. Having to connect to the Tower 2-3x does get old, especially when it kicks you out of your fireteam. Hope they fix it soon.
 
I've gotten some disconnect issues past few days for sure. They also need to add the ability to queue up quests in the tower. Why can you not fly out of the tower straight to the other planets? Why must we go to orbit first. They should also allow for loading in the background while in tower so it allows people to do things while waiting.

What level are you? I'm also having trouble with MP if most other players are 3+levels higher than me. Still having a blast though. Totally forgot about the patrol missions on Earth and did some for about 3 hours last night.
 
Level advantages are disabled in the cruicible.

It's the Iron Banner where they aren't disabled.

Wrong. Damage is normalized. Passive abilities are still a HUGE advantage.

Iron banner is where DMG and armor come into play.

I'm not trying to insult you directly this is meant towards everyone that bitches us down for complaining about connection issues. Just because you never had an issue doesn't mean fuck all. I've never had my car broken into but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And just and FYI its even on the hardforum front page news

Might I suggest when complaining you specify how your playing then what system etch.

My son and I are playing it on each of our Xbox ones in the same house Comcast extreme 105 here.
Zero issues

lol fair enough point. Mines on Xbox one 25mbps down cable 60-70 ping avg to servers on PC games

No issues here either on PS4 50MB internet.
