Destiny 2

anyone have any sales numbers for the PC version?...feels like it's not doing as well as expected

I'm seeing roughly the same #'s of other players as I did with the PS4 version of the first game. That's pretty anecdotal, but it's also not the case for many games.

Destiny 2 now requires twice as much XP to earn levels.
http://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-now-requires-twice-as-much-xp-to-earn-levels/

Ha ha I was literally researching how to join a raiding clan before I purchased the game. Guess I was wise to read a little bit more and see this fuckery. ;) I need to save more money anyways. ;)

The XP thing is a non issue, after you hit level 20 all you get for gaining another "level" is an item called a Bright Engram which as far as I can tell gives only cosmetic items at least that's all I've ever gotten. I've logged in a good 30 hours and I'm enjoying running around doing public events in co-op, my gear isn't maxed out yet and I'm still on my 1st of 3 classes.

The XP thing really only affects a pretty specific group of players. A lot of people are having a knee-jerk upset reaction without understanding that. The idea that this is to sell loot boxes doesn't make a ton of sense either. It might be to increase their # of active players statistics, though.

I am reading that as meaning it will take twice as much XP to collect those bright engrams.

The more I read about these micro transactions and loot boxes and such the more I am impressed with the way warframe does it.
Platinum is the currency for warframe. It is required for cosmetics and certain types of UI unlocks (slots and such).
It can be bought or traded for with other players. Everything in the game can be had without paying a penny.
There is a grind but it seems enjoyable. Also based on it being a 4 year old game there is just tons of content and it is very refined.
I guess it is a contrast between two very different business models.

So, I'm pretty much done with the game, but I ran into "Thaviks the Depraved" while trying to get the Sturm and I'm stumped. It's pretty much the hardest (solo) fight I've encountered in either game. I'm just no able to hurt the guy and I can't get away from all of the traps. Is that even winnable without other people?
I actually almost took him out solo but unfortunately got knocked off and fell to my death. I was kinda pissed because I was super close to killing him but it wasn't necessary to complete the quest so then I just said screw it and quit.

I quit after getting him down to about 1/3 of his life a couple times...each of which took like 15 minutes. After 4 tries I bailed because it was getting late. Now that mission isn't there anymore, at least not solo.

I had him down to a less than 1/4 health but it took forever to get him that low. I was going to try again since I was so close but I was like screw that it took forever and the reward is probably not worth it.

I solo'd him no problem in less than 10 minutes, including accidentally falling to my death thanks to a massive lag spike. I did notice at one point he became invulnerable (everything did 1 point of damage) but I don't know why, it went away quickly though. I'm only level 270 and don't have very good gear either, but I use the Titan class and the ability that generates an overshield and health when you get a melee kill so I just punch all the cannon fodder to death and it keeps me alive.

A major issue that some aren't understanding isn't just the XP scaling for cosmetic items. The Fireteam Medallions give XP boosts, and from what I can gather at the many Reddit threads, is that players spent real money for silver (D2's real money currency for the EV store) to get the 25% XP boosts to earn more bright engrams (to get the cosmetics or whatever else is offered in the EV store).

Basically, players spent real money for FT medallions but the XP scaling made it so the boost from the FTMs were practically useless (25% boost on top of 50% / 4% XP when it should have been 25% on top of the 100% or even 300% *weekly reset boost for the first 3 levels*).

I think another big issue is that after EA's BFront2 PR nightmare, and Bungie's well-known lack of communication with the community, players finding hidden nerfs or such within the game fuels their rage that Bungie is heading down the same road as other devs/publishers who are increasingly seen as doing "money grabs" with loot boxes/mtx. You know... it feels scummy, and now that online gaming sites with large reader bases are starting to report it, everyone feels empowered to pile on in hopes of making Bungie (or Activision) change their ways.

For me, this is a big issue, but nowhere near as important as QoL issues (like mass deletion of shaders, clan/local/zone chat on PC, the terrible token system for gear that is essentially the exact same since there's no min/max or random perks, lack of meaningful endgame content, etc).

$26 for all versions on Amazon today. So damn tempting even with all the issues/negativity surrounding the game. I hate myself for even still considering it.

It's a great game and you'll easily get your money's worth. The negativity surrounding it is the equivalent of the "wouldn't recommend -500 hours played" reviews you see on steam. It's people that love the game. They just think it could be better.

I'd absolutely recommend the game for $26. Especially if you haven't played the first game. IMO, the people that probably have the most room to be bored with Destiny 2 are fans of the first game. While it's a great game, it's still 90% the same game with a big graphical upgrade. If you put in a ton of time into the first game, you're going to be in deja vu territory pretty quickly.

Don't do it man, don't support this bullshit.

Up to level 20 its kind of cool, the graphics and so forth are alright. If you dont know anything about the lore (like myself) then all the cutscenes and characters are gonna be lost on you though.

^^ That's good.

This game is going to evolve just like the first game did. I like Bungie and I like their attitude. They've earned benefit of the doubt.

Destiny 2 crashing.jpg
I am getting crashes about 15-20 minutes into the final drang mission and its extremely annoying. Its a stupid mission with way too many enemies and I have no idea why they think its fun to solo all of these bullet sponges. to add insult to injury, I have attempted it 3 times and each time it crashes sometime after I destroy the twin servitors while defending my ghost doing a scan.

I am running a Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080Ti. I have attached an image of MSI AB. I dont have it overclocked, just voltage limit and power limit set to max. It was only running 1987mhz, but its been stable playing destiny at 2038 mhz, so i have no idea why it would be crashing. It isnt a driver crash either. Just "Destiny 2 has stopped responding"

Shut off afterburner.

I still get occasional resets with Destiny 2, so it's not exactly bulletproof to begin with. That's with two totally different hardware (except the same GTX1080) setups, too. Afterburner does apparently cause known issues, though.

I would assume zero tolerance for any third party...well, anything at this point... until the coast is clear.

Agreed. I was just really enjoying monitoring CPU usage and GPU clock speed, etc.

The game really does run like butter. Now that ive upgraded to a 3770K i get 25 more FPS. No joke.

Well, the only joke is the in game AA, so I just supersample to 115%.

Which issues? I just installed my 1080 and have been using MSI afterburner to do the OC. I was aware that I wouldnt be able to see the MSI overlay but beyond that I haven't had any issues

So far so good with regards to Fraps and MSI afterburner, they dont show up in destiny 2 but I havent been closing them down and game has been fine so far.

Right now With every setting cranked to max except for super sampling I get around 120fps with a few dips to 100 on my rig @ 1080p. Pretty sure its my CPU thats holding it back now though (Running a GTX 1080 and i5-2500k @ 4ghz). So far extremly pleased with the performance and once I get my OC dialed in I will start playing with the SS, just locked my computer up by pushing my 1080 a bit to high lol (2150/5250). Will have to run home at lunch to reset it :(

I gained about 20-30fps moving my 4770k from stock to 4.5ghz. GTX 1080 at 1440p, I'm getting ~110fps average now (I have some settings turned down or off because they add nothing to my eyes).

With a 1080Ti at 1440P, all settings maxed, I went from a 2500K @ 4.6ghz to a 3770K @ 4.6ghz and gained 25 fps. Theyre hard to find cheap, but maybe the cheapest upgrade now is to drop one in?

just bought the 1080, going to wait until tax return time to upgrade the CPU lol, I've only got so much money! :p

Yeah. I went from a 2500k to a 370k too. $170 for mine but still much cheaper than a wholesale upgrade. Well, I got $70 for my 2500K so actually $100. I won the 2500k in a BF2 comp in Portland ala 2012 lol.

You aren't going to see many gains in most games once you have at least a 4-series Intel processor.
My 4790K and 8700K perform almost identically in spite of an additional 300MHz overclock, much quicker RAM, 2 additional cores, and newer tech overall.
In Destiny 2 I don't know if there were any gains at all.
