Dell U2311H

But there is only one U2311H
There is a Professional Series TN panel P2311H, basically the same chassis, but lacking the IPS panel.

I recently bought a 2311 from dell.com. Overall the monitor is OK, and I think I could live with it. There is a bit of backlight bleed in the lower left (visible in bright room), and a slight blue tint on the left side. The tint is more noticeable with greys rather than whites. I was thinking about trying a replacement, but from what I've read here, I may actually have a "better" unit. Two questions:

1) Is there a quick way to get a RMA online, as opposed to battling phone support?

2) If the replacement is worse than the original, can I return that one instead? Do I need to do anything special to accomplish that? Can I try another replacement?

Thanks

I just got my u2311h today, after buying it refurbished on the dell outlet site. I only bought it at the outlet store because it takes 5-7 days before it even ships. It still took a week to get the refurbished one. Overall, I like the monitor but the bottom right corner is a little too bright. I haven't noticed any of the warm/cool sides or anything else untoward. For the past week I have been using my old dell 2005FPW, a 1680x1050 S IPS panel I bought in December of 2004. I still kinda like it better in some ways.

I haven't had much time to play with the 2311, but I'm glad it isn't terrible -- I'd rather slam my scrotum in a car door than call Dell ever again.

Has anyone tried using the U2311H in portrait and found text a little blurry compared to landscape? I'm not 100% sure but it feels as if it's due to the orientation of the RGB subpixels.

I haven't with mine, but my older dell 2005FPW S-IPS panel in portrait mode isn't what I would call blurry (just not right), but it makes me feel like my eyes are melting. I can't stand it.

Ok after looking at it a bit more it actually doesn't look blurry but rather exactly what you said, not right. It doesn't feel comfortable looking at it compared to landscape.

Does anyone know if the PS3 accepts multiple output? HDMI and Optical out at the same time?

I have this monitor and a LG 22" monitor. The LG is slightly smaller, and I was thinking of hooking the ps3 to this monitor instead as it is bigger. This video shows the ps3 video can be connected:

I am not sure about the audio though. I was thinking of running the PS3 audio into my PC SPDIF/IN and using my PC speakers as output. Found this online making it a bit more problematic:

Hello! I got the screen a few days ago and I also experienced some backlight bleeding, but more annoyingly, some crazy IPS glow in the lower right corner.

I am getting a replacement tomorrow, I know I can not avoid IPS Glow 100 % but if it's really disturbing when you are using the monitor normally, it shouldn't be acceptable right?

The replacement seems better, no BLB but still IPS Glow in the lower right corner, maybe not as much though. As seen from some of your pics you do not have it as much?

I had no tinting on the previous screen but now I see what everyone is talking about with the left side being dirtier than the right etc..

Yes, the PS3 does accept multiple outputs, have mine currently running video via hdmi and audio via optical, you just have to adjust the output settings under "audio settings" in the system section of the xmb.

IPS glow is not a fault and is not known to vary between shipped units. I have explained this several times in this thread.

Hm. I have read the entire thread in the last days and I have seen pictures uploaded by people where there is no noticeable IPS glow when looking straight at the monitor. My first one had lots of it in the right corner, the replacement has less. So I think there is a difference. Getting my third one tomorrow.

that has a lot to do qith QA from LG as they really widened the tolerances for eIPS to be so cheap. It also allows for cheaper backlights by making the panel much less opaque than traditional IPS panels...

It depends on the distance at which photos are taken. Once again, IPS glow should not be visible viewed straight-on (with respect to a particular screen area, normally a small amount is visible from the monitor as a whole), it changes with respect to diagonal angle.

Photos make it impossible to confidently discern IPS light leakage from backlight bleed, which is a fault.

Ok but IPS glow IS visible for me viewed straight-on. In one corner. And it is annoying.

Your picture looks like backlight bleed that happens to be in a corner, not IPS glow.

I'm not sure about that, my other screen had some bleed and it looked nothing like this.

Another pic:

Haudr -> it's IPS glow. Mine U2311H having the same. Just try to view from more sharp angle and that purple glow will spread through panel.

Exactly, it's the same situation with the Apple cinema display that only has displayport and requires an expensive adapter(converter) to take dvi/hdmi input.

You see, displayport is a later standard and has the pins required to export an HDMI/dvi signal, so a displayport OUT , CAN output dvi/hdmi without conversions. But a displayport IN , can't accept hdmi/dvi because hdmi/dvi connectors are not designed with compatibility to displayport pin-wise.

This is the only problem of this monitor for me, it only has 1 hdmi/dvi input, so I can't hook up both my PC and console simultaneously and switch from the monitor buttons. Unless I invest in a displayport cable for my PC (since the latest ATI cards all got displayport out and my 5770 does too...)

Found this quote here
and that was some 4 months ago. Is it still the same? I was really hoping to plug my PS3 HDMI>Displayport rather than direct to the LG as the LG has a smaller resolution. This link in youtube says you can hook it up to the display port:

Now I'm quite confused.

I just received my U2311, and I noticed a serious problem.

I'm currently using it via DVI, and I noticed serious ghosting in explorer. Basically, whenever I move a window it will blur and sort of feel like a slight lag. It's as if I didn't have my display driver installed.

I'm wondering if anyone experienced anything similar. I'm using HD6970 under 64bit W7. Could it be a configuration problem or is it a hardware problem?

My second replacement is here. While the tinting from the last one is gone or less, it seems that the left side of the screen is a bit darker/dirtier like some of you have called it. The ips glow in the corner is as big as the first screen.
To summarize the screens:

1. No tinting, full screen google.com I could not see any difference between areas, that was perfect. Lots of ips glow in the corner. small backlight bleed in the top.

2. Less ips glow, no backlight bleed. TINTING. green on the left, pink on the right.

3. No green/pink (maybe a little) tint but dirtier/darker on the left side. Ips glow is there like on the first screen.

I'm debating whether to get the Dell U2311H or get the ASUS VE278Q, is IPS really worth sacrificing 4 inches for it?

Ok Dell won't replace my monitors anymore. They said that I just have to accept the Ips glow all over the screen when looking at it straight on. Awesome.

IPS glow is a side effect of the panel technology. Its not a manufacturer defect. Return for a refund if you can't live with it.
