DC Vault

I just noticed BOINC 6.4.7 is out. I've put my laptop back on Docking and Poem. It looks like Malaria could catch up to those projects soon.

If we maintain our current pace, we'll be the #1 team in DC Vault in two months. :D Somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

im making about 1.5-2 million cems/s more a second running 5 clients.. the way it spreads out it doesnt look like it is but did the math on it so its helping a tad..
Yeah I can see a nice step up on your chart so good going.

I think we will run into a little trouble shooting for the top spot so soon.
I'll be happy when we break in to the top 10.

I fired up Majestic-12 on what was my dedicated EON server since it crunched out the last of it's que.
I'll get back to EON here after we have a better spot in Malariacontrol.net - may be a while since this may take some time.

We figured we could get to #13 on just what we had when we still had two goose eggs for malariacontrol and proteins. With those two little roadblocks out of the way and continuing to collect firepower along the way, we should be looking higher than 10. The only thing really slowing us down is things like SIMAP and LHC that are so slow going.

We're the [H]orde, why wouldn't we be aiming for #1 from the beginning? :D

Oh I think we can make a push for #1 but I think it will take some time.
I break stuff up in manageable chunks and work on it like that.
I'm not saying we are done at 10 I'm just saying thats my next short term goal.:D

at this point i think we are starting to run out of D to hit number 1.. but top 10 is completely do-able.. its just going to take a lot more work to stay there..

Yeah, so far we've been able to jump a lot of inactive teams and rack up points, but once we get to the top 10, some other teams are going to start fighting back. A lot of teams have more than twice the members, so it won't be easy.

We're also getting to the point in some projects where there are huge point differences to overcome. For example, in PRP we have 71,472 points and the two team above us have 113,988 and 121,565 so we should be able to pass them this week. However, after that the next team has 539,277 points. A lot of the stand-alone projects with few teams are like that (EON, W@H), and the BOINC projects tend to have a lot of active teams which means we'll lose ground if we don't stick with them. The current gains of 800-1000 points every Vault update are nice, but they won't last.

agree'd guess we need to hijack more people running the SMP client for F@H and bring them to the dark side.. :p

I've slowly been adding cores.

I just added another 2 the other day. I'm looking at getting another E21XX chip and building a HTPC for the bedroom. Those ships OC so nicely :D

It really bugs me that I have everything backed up on the WHS in the basement and I can't stream to the TV in the bedroom.... yet. I could have gotten another episode of Battlestar in tonight. :(

Well, I'm thinking I'm gonna pull the trigger on one of Sunin's Q6600 today, so that will be two more cores within a week for me, then another 2 once I get my 2160 back in action. And I swapped cases at work from a SFF to a tower, threw in a couple personal 80mm fans, and "hid" the case behind my monitors so nobody asks why it's being left on all night. :D And before you ask, yes, I have permission from my head of IT, he's an old school SETI guy himself. Only rules were not to touch other people's gear for Borging, and no running it on weekends when they do maintenance and updates...

So I'll be up to 7 cores at home 24/7, plus 2 cores at work for about 100 hours a week. hopefully then I can add a second Quad, maybe a cheaper AMD rig later in the year. I'm just torn, as I want to hit front page in F@H, and that's gonna also take moar "D"... Gotta get my priorities straight! Any suggestions

yeah ill have my be-2350 back up and running once i finish my htpc build.. and one i can get a new psu for my athlon 3200+ then ill have 9 cores total running.. hopefully it was my old psu that was keeping me from hitting 3ghz..

Damn, now I'm torn - got room to run something else since Cosmology is all borked, and I'm not one to turn down a challenge, but we're already over 9K in Superlink, and only @ 7500 in Poem...

Need more "D"! Guess I'll have to stretch my cores even thinner...

Ya, Superlink doesn't really need a raid at the moment but I'll be crunching it regardless as I'm a sucker for limited run projects. Seems really hard to get any work units at the moment though, I had a few when I posted that were quickly 'aborted by project' and since then only a few have trickled down to one of my clients.

I switched from Docking to Superlink, but I'm staying on Poem too. Like you said, it's really hard to get any work right now.

Overall Team Position: (Up 1 places) 15
Overall Team Score: (Up 692.282246 points) 318,401.046336

I'm always up for a challenge, but what kind of challenge is that? Is there a GOOD reason why they think they need to finish this batch so quickly, and is there a point where I'm supposed to care? :D

Either way, all my cores still on BOINC are hitting the superlink with a 250 resource share. Like IcedEmotion, I'm all about the limited run projects. As we found out with proteins@home, you never know if/when the next batch will ever come with projects like that.

we should have zero competition all the way to 100th place on SoB.. though it will be a big hill to climb..

I'm with you. My quad is hard at it until Malariacontrol.net hatches a new batch here in the next day or so.
Catch me if you can.:D

On GIMPS, I switched from trial factoring to Lucas-Lehmer testing. I had no idea those tests take one month to run, though. If you wonder why my output drops off after today, that's why. Hopefully we'll get some major points when these things complete.

I'm still working hard at SoB. I am just barely out producing sirmonkey. Keep it [H]orde!

lol your not out producing me.. SoB just sucks with the stats.. right now im doing 32 million cems/s.. 20+ million on the 940 6 million on the 6400+ 6 million on a c2d 2ghz laptop..

I seen you put on a little more D on earlier then EricE added a little bit latter and so I was like these guys are coming for me so I added a little bit more.
We're so damn funny it makes laugh.

Oh damn, I thought I had you beat for once. Haha. I'll try to add more D, but I'm not sure what I can come up with. I am only running 2 c2d and 2 p4s.

I really wish I had a quad to compete with you guys more.

If razor doesn't add anymore D i might have a chance against him. haha.

Now if you could have only mentioned this a little sooner. I just selected "Gimps - what makes sense [default]" and wound up with the LL's on both boxen. Kind of reminds me when I started folding on crappy boxen that didn't run 24/7. :D

I just recently added the climateprediction.net client to my computers. I am starting to think I shouldn't be running that one though. My two computers I BOINC on are somewhat RAM limited and it seems to be a RAM hungry project.

Does anyone have any advice on that? Or even a few projects we could use a push in that don't eat up too much RAM?

I didn't know until the day I posted--I decided to try LL because that seems to be what most of the top teams are running. The weird thing is that I originally chose "what makes sense" and it gave me nothing but TF. I'm running it on my i7--I wonder if it assigns projects based on your CPU type? I switched back to "what makes sense" but now I'm wondering if I should explicitly set it to TF. Maybe I need to just set it to not get new work (if that's possible) until I see what sort of points I get for crunching four LL units for a month vs. however many TF units I could do in that time.

I put what makes sense on them both (C2D 6400 and BE-2400 FWIT). The BE2400 got a NF-PM1 and after that the LL, and the 6400 was added later and also got a LL. My guess would be the queue is FIFO and there was a batch of LL's right there.

I don't know, because I ran for a week and did 327 TF units in a row while set to "whatever makes sense" before I manually switched to LL. That doesn't seem random, unless I got lucky. The P-1 units are apparently precursors to the actual LL units. When I switched to LL, each worker did a P-1 unit first.

I don't know if I want to upgrade the software in the middle of crunching these giants. Let me know how it goes.

crappy bios most likely..

what did you have it running at?

Nothing major, it was at 2.6GHz, stock is 2.3. I've had such crappy luck lately with my rigs, I'm not sure if I even care right now since it's at least running. :D

try 3ghz @ 1.38v.. on my be-2350 i did 290x10.5 @ 1.4v w/ vdroop it was 1.38v came out to 3.045ghz.. should be able to do that.. ends up using a total of 89w at full load..

only 2 days left for me on SoB then everything is going idle til the end of the month and switching to a new project..

We have made some good progress in SoB. Nice work team.
That quad of yours sirmonkey1985 is doing a great job crunching. We will be awaiting your return.:)

yup i want to see how it does on some other stuff too.. i think we moved up over 75 places in SoB and could probably make it to the top 100.. but im to impatient.. :D
