Crysis: Warhead reviewed (IGN)!

excellent, I'll probably pick it up later this year once I've upgraded to my uber system. till then, let us celebrate and Hamidxa's bringing the alcohol.
 
It does look good. I liked Crysis once I gave it a try so I'll be picking this up.
 
I pre-ordered a physical copy through EA. So I'll have to wait until it hits my doorstep.
 
Anndd, the hot topic of the week: What form of DRM has EA put on Crysis Warhead? Is there an install limit on this one too?
 
Yeah, I was waiting for someone to go off on a tangent about that: Warhead will use the same base DRM scheme as Spore, Mass Effect, and Red Alert 3. (Not sure if it will by default allow three or five activations, though.) Now I've done it...

Excellent review, Jason Ocampo normally gets it right. Most of his Gamespot reviews I concurred with.

This game is going to be what Crysis should have been. Fast paced, smooth graphics and a great FPS.
 
I'm still debating whether or not to get this or original recipe Crysis, having played neither...
 
I will definitely be getting this next week. I'm excited about the thought of playing it & going with stealth kills as my usual. :D
 
Hmm. I want to get this, but the DRM is really setting me off. I think I'd feel best if I bought it and then just used a cracked copy with my CD so I didn't have to deal with all the bullcrap.. Alas, that's probably not an option, and I'd really like to enjoy the invigorated multiplayer. Power struggle was fun, I'm not a fan of team DM, and with the crysis vehicles which are the best of any game (IMO) it's senseless not to get some more vehicle warfare going.

I'm on the wall with this one. Did they add more power struggle maps? Or scrap the whole idea? I hate DRM as much as the next [H]er, but for only $30 or so I'm really attracted to this one. I got pretty burned when they cut support for the first Crysis though. So maybe this is a wait and see, or a bargain bin game.
 
I'm excited for this. I finished the original crysis just in anticipation for this game.

I wonder how it's gonna play on my laptop now that my tower is down and out. :(
 
I didn't want to completely derail this thread, but if you buy the game with invasive DRM and download the crack, you don't give the publishers much of an incentive to stop using that invasive DRM - they still got your money.

Anyways, you could get the original crysis for about $30. I had fun, although IMO, it didn't really improve on FarCry gameplay much..

If it wasn't for the DRM, I would have immediatly gotten Warhead, and try to play it differently (aka, not simply hide behind cover and head-plink enemies from a distance). A shame too cause I hear they tweaked and improved the gameplay. They'll need to cut the price at least in half to convince me to buy it with that DRM and 5 hours of gameplay. There are other games I can buy and play.
 
Seeing the review and the price(I actually thought it was $40. Silly me.) I might just pick this up next week.

Either that or save my money for black friday or something.

I liked the review, just ordered it on amazon. Been looking forward to more crysis. I wish they could have found a way to keep the power struggle multiplayer mode. Sounds like they are catering this new one to the simple style as in COD4, I loved the original crysis multiplayer mode. Once you figured out how to complete all the objectives, and happened to get in a game with people who knew how to play it was a blast. Would have loved to get in some clan matches or something.
 
I am definitely picking this up on Tuesday.

I cant wait. The new multiplayer style should be amazingly fun.
I wanna see how well it runs with my new gtx260.

$30 is a great price.

I'd really like to keep the playmode around, as it was what really kept me in the game. TDM not so much. Power struggle was a blast once you got the hang of it and started working as a team.
 
Sorry, but companies need to learn that once I buy something, it is mine, period (provided I don't copy and sell it of course).

If I want to install it 50 times on my computer I should be able to. I wan't to pull down my pants and wipe my ass with it I will.

Sorry crytek, you've lost a person who would have paid for the game and made a pirate who will hopefully help to teach you a very painful lesson, and send a message to other idiot companies who think about doing this stuff. Once you sell something, it is no longer yours, you will learn this, or go out of business.

You can call me names, or say I'm making excuses, but I get really pissed off when a company tries to tell me what I can and can't do with a product I have paid for.

Yes, I know, I can get the message across by not buying the game, but it is so sleezy of these companies to do this, that pirating is a way to rub it in their face. They aren't stopping piracy, they are creating it, in my case anyway. I can't speak for the rest of you who choose to pirate this game.

Instead of pissing people off, they should try something different. I'd have no problems with certain limits if I was, say, only paying a couple bucks a month for a subscription (just an example).

No, pirating does help either, because at the very least, that still increases the number of players of the game, which in a way, can influence other people to buy it. Also, it adds to the stats of piracy, which fuels the flames for invasive DRM in the first place.

If you want to rally against DRM, the best solution is simply don't buy it and don't pirate it.

For $30, Crysis Warhead is an incredible value, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better shooter on the PC this year. The single- player campaign is tight and superb, and the multiplayer portion delivers something that you can have fun with. I love the intelligent gameplay of Warhead; this isn’t a game where you simply react to highly scripted events, but one where you have to think on your feet, and you’re rewarded for doing so. Crytek once again proves that its one of the premiere shooter developers in the industry, even if it does get an unfair rep as being “just” a technology company. Comments like that make it seem as if the Crytek had a chip on its shoulder, because it addressed almost every complaint about Crysis and then some. I found Warhead to be challenging, exciting, wild, and, yes, very much full of swagger and fury.

Let's start with the bad news, because there isn't really very much of it. Crysis Warhead is not a particularly long game - in fact, if you're playing on normal settings, and you're familiar with the first entry in the series, you can probably clock this at somewhere between five and seven hours.

The original Crysis may have given you the basic tools, but Warhead allows you to really use them, and while its previous titles made it clear that Crytek knew technology like few others, it's this strange off-shoot Warhead that proves it's no slouch when it comes to level design and set-pieces either.

Ya, i will see i i can get a 8800 GT or maybe a 9800 GTX, getting tired of my 8600 GTS. Plus there higher end cards are pretty cheap now.
 
i just can't wrap my head around the continous DRM it only hurts paying customers - pirates see no difference at all
 
So I'm ordering Warhead on Amazon this morning, reading about the DRM crap and thinking to myself "I wish they'd just put it on Steam", and as if by magic....

Time to cancel that Amazon order.
