Creative X-Fi a Warning

Status
Not open for further replies.
The peeps posting here are the guys from NGOHQ.. same freaking IP.

So you ban Terra from joining and continue to spread mis-information about the X-Fi.

Just to be clear on something... only the 2MB cards were affected by this bug. And it was an issue with the nForce4 adressing the memory.

A new Bios on the nForce4 fixed it. Creative went and re-released teh X-Fi with an updated Firmware.

Works fine.. I have an Extreme Music and a Fatal1ty.

I think NGOHQ are crap !!!!!! bastards! It's not journalism at all. Next you'll be telling us to search George W. Bush is the devil in Google and claim it's true since we get about 5.2Million hits. (I don't like him but he's not satan).

NGOHQ = Dog Poop.

CPU:AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice revision DH-E3
MoboFI Lanparty UT Nforce 4 SLI-DR
BIOS:phoenix Bios 6.00PG, and the DFI bios revision is 2006/04/06
GPU:XFX GeForce 7800GTX (490MHz core/1300MHz memory stock)
memory: 4x 512mb Kingston Value Ram DDR 400 ECC (pass countless hours of memtest)
PCI card:ATI HDTV wonder that functions in either PCI slot regardless of what other PCI card I put in
PSU: Thermaltake Purepower TWV 500 Watt PSU w/Active PFC
Case: Thermaltake Lanfire VM2000

Funny I have the same board and used my Xtreme Music in it (before installing my fatal1ty). Worked fine here.

I'm baffled as to why you opted to use 4 sticks of PC3200 memory... that means 2T timings instead of 1T.. that's a dive in performance of 5-9%.

Its ECC memory, I dont think the change from 1T to 2T timings makes a real difference to me.

And you have proved my point that it isnt a Nforce 4 problem. If it was an Nforce 4 problem you would have issues with your X-Fi as well, but you don't. I said it wasn't consistent for motherboards having problems, people can have the exact same motherboard and one might have issues and another does not. Does that not make you think it might not be the motherboards when the issue does not occur on every single motherboard of one type, and when the same issues occur on different chipsets?

As for NGOHQ, I don't know who they are, and I agree that they are most likely wrong about it being a majority of users having issues. The facts are still that there are many users with many issues with the X-Fi, and there has been very little done that fixes this issue for many of those people in many months. That is the real problem, that there are many users with malfunctioning X-Fi cards and no solution to their problem after Creative Labs having months to work on the issue and no real updates or feedback on progress on a solution.

This is a failure of their tech support, and their customer relations, and it is not a trivial matter. They have still failed me on more than one occasion, and have failed many other paying customers. There is no list for compatability stating what does and does not work with X-Fi cards from Creative Labs, just a lot of users getting blindsided by the card not working as designed.

Rawr said:
You cannot claim that all the problems related to the Nforce 4 motherboard simply because that is what the majority of users with issues are trying the X-Fi in.

Are you denying that the majrity of people have issue ar eon an nForce4? :)

The people having the exact same issues with different chipsets kind of hurts your proclimation that its an issue with the Nforce 4. And I have the latest revision of X-Fi that includes the firmware fix, and it even comes with a heatsink. So really Terra, there are people with both the Nforce 4, a bios update, and a Creative Labs firmware update, and their cards still fail to operate nominally, and people with other chipsets with the X-Fi and it has the exact same issues.

Mine too have heatsink?
And again are you deyng the ratio of nForce Mobo's with problems?

Explain how these are all related to Nforce 4 issues when completely different chipsets have been having the exact same issues, and it isn't consistent for motherboards having problems.

Never stated that ALL, now you reverting to "straw man" attacks?

I am saying that ist is NO secret that nForce4 and certains Mobo's have problems.
Som mobo manufactors have made a BIOS update...some havn't
For those where the mobo manufatrs won't do it, creative is trying to solve the problem with new firmware.

Terra- Even when it can be resolved with a new Mobo BIOS...

Terra - If I say what I think about people that ban IP's and do this kind of shite..I would get banned!

I almost bought an X-Fi for my newest system a couple months ago. Now I'm kinda glad I didn't. I have the Audigy2 in there now anyway and it works beautifully! I've owned SB Live!, Audigy X-Gamer and the Audigy2 OEM and have never had any problems with any of them. I even added passive heatsinks to the Audigy card because I could. I'm a gamer, so I'll continue to buy Creative until someone comes out with a better gaming sound card.

As far as all the problems people have been having, I'm not surprised at least there is some correlation with the NF4 motherboards. I've built two systems with NF4 boards and both had problems. I also know of several other that have had problems with NF4 motherboards. You can argue all day about how many people have trouble with the X-Fi with NF4 and other boards, but the fact remains that there is a problem. I think Terra brings up some very valid points that should be at least considered if not heeded.

Terra:

I have no affiliation with NGOHQ, nor am I a member of their community or forums. I request that you refrain from assuming that I am from NGOHQ because I am having issues with an X-Fi soundcard. I do not approve of them banning your IP address because you disagree with them, or because your drivers are using significantly less memory than theirs and you have proof. A few extra megabytes here or there is not my concern, I am more concerned about their lack of support, and the large number of outstanding issues that have not been properly addressed and the many users who are left to eat the cost of the soundcard because they cannot return it and it doesn't work in their setup.

There is also a problem with assuming that the issues are related to the Nforce 4 chipset because that is what comprises the majority of forum posts, since the Nforce 4 chipsets are among the most popular for enthusiasts. You could also claim that it is by a far margin an issue that is related to Asus because a very large portion of those posting with issues on the Creative Labs forums are stating that they are using an Asus board when they have their issues, which includes those with Intel chipsets and Via chipsets. It is possible that the issue is misrepresented as being an Nforce 4 problem due to the popularity of such motherboards and a possibly higher number of users with a Nforce 4 motherboard and a X-Fi soundcard.

Even Creative Labs does not know where all their soundcards have gone once they are sold, or what system configuration they are now residing in, and exactly how many in each different configuration are having issues. So I can only see what is reported on their support forums, and see that there are more than Nforce 4 boards that are having problems, and that it isnt consistent across a chipset series either, or by manufacturer, or any other item of hardware that is common to all the systems. The only common hardware component in all the systems is that they all contain some version of X-Fi soundcard.

I have the same problem with DVD Audio playing on my Audigy 2ZS with nforce 4 and dual core Opteron 175. My father in law has an ATI 200 chipset motherboard and an X2 3800 CPU and surprise, it does not have this DVD Audio problem, or any other dual core related problem. My friend does not have these DVD Audio problems with his X2 4800 on the new ATi RD580 board he has either, but his dual 254 Opterons have the same issues on his nforce 4 4400 Pro board that almost everyone seems to post about being Creative issues.

I would say there is a high level of coincidence where the nforce chipset is a major core of issues the majority of users have, don't blame it on Creative's X-Fi, because the Audigy series has the same issues.

I already said I don't care if I am in the majority or minority of users having issues with their card. The real issue is that many users are stuck with cards that do not function as designed. This is an issue with Creative Labs and their support, not with some article on the web about it. I did not take notice of how much memory the Creative Labs drivers were using before, and I have no reason to believe that it is a majority of users who have malfunctioning X-Fi soundcards. I never stated that I am in a majority, I merely stated that I don't care if I am in the majority or minority in having issues with the card. Now if you would be so kind as to understand that my only concern is that Creative Labs is failing its users with adequate support and leaving many people with no hope of a solution, you might understand why I would not be thrilled with their products.

My issue with this is that I, along with many other users with many other X-Fi related issues, are left with no support and no indication of progress on issues that are critical to the use and enjoyment of hardware that we all spent our money on. I can understand that there might be a few bugs, maybe even issues that cause the product to not work, but I cannot understand the lack of information from Creative Labs on the issues that are being experienced. Now just maybe they will come up with a viable solution shortly to their users with the various problems they are having, but until then, they are exhibiting a level of customer support that is unacceptable and almost appears to not care at all about any issues their users may have.

I have a solution for you.
Don't buy Creative.
Problem solved.
And funny how Creative is to blame, when a BIOS update fixes the problem?
(for those mobo manufactors that have fessed up and done this)

You have to look at how many X-Fi's have been sold and how many people are complaining about them. I bet there is such a huge disparity in complaints versus quantity sold that they really don't care to address every problem.

I agree that is bad but it is really just the side effect of a large company and how they provide support.

They don't have the engineers on the tech support desk's so the quality of support is just that, help desk minimum wage level.

A bios update does not solve these problems Terra. That bios update was only for the original problem of the X-Fi causing constant reboots or being detected as many PCI devices. So no, a bios update does not fix this problem, and that same problem is also fixed by a firmware update on X-Fi cards as well.

And as for your answer, that is not a solution at all. Not buying a product I already own doesn't fix anything at all.

The only "out of balance" thing I see is your blatant aggressive f4nboism for everything X-Fi to the point where you think anyone that says something even remotely negative about the X-Fi is an idiot.

This is even more amusing since the content of your posts make it clear as day that you are not much of an audiophile and don't seem to know much about computer audio and/or headphones.

Terra I think you're being kind of mean here... people who are having problems with a product are entitled to support from the vendor. Creative is failing to provide that support... just because a product works for you and your friend doesn't mean it works for everyone. I don't see why you're so fervently opposed to letting this Rawr guy maintain a legitimate standpoint in this discussion. The arguing between you two is dragging this thread OT and you should be the bigger man and drop it.

Frankly I'm disappointed with Creative's new generation of products, mainly over their Linux support and insane cost. But hearing this stuff makes me definitely want a Turtle Beach card in my next build.

What makes you think you can trash me and my website behind my back? You’re just a newbie who knows nothing about hardware/software. You don’t even know how to test these files for ram usage and you dare to trash me? You’re just another case of leak of knowledge. When you will deal with hardware/software on daily basis (like me) then you will have a right to speak. Until then, get on the bike and only return when you will grow up and get some knowledge. I’m surprised that [H] staff is letting people to behave like that; I thought it’s a respected website.

In NGOHQ we keep the forums troll-free. We ban people who can’t express their opinions in a respected way (Unlike other website). OH wow... a fan boy runs a website.

He used the word Newbie... hihihi.

I'm sorry sir but you are probably just as bad as Rolo. Running a website does not make you an instant know it all. Your website is filled with Biased commentaries, childish journalism and over the top attitude. You even banned an individual for posting his own opinion (without insults) just because it did not match your own. You sir are a website Nazi and your website is the pits.

If you weren't the owner of NGO and/or were not allowed to post a single comment, your website would do well.. but as it stands you're just a regular Joe and your website will be getting ALOT of negative publicity. (and as for driver tweaking, I used to make sets for 3Dfx cards because the company went under.. it's not hard at all so don't start preaching and thinking you're above everyone else just because of a few tweaked drivers).
If I were you I would click here to see that MANY users (look at there sigs) run X-Fi's with various motherboards without any issues (the majority do not have any issues). Like any product that is malfunctioning you can RMA it. There is a warranty you know (I suppose your MANY years of experience haven't really paid off now have they?).

And to reach your level, Tera would need to lower himself to your level. I don't think he wants to do this... but you kow what they say... arguing with an idiot is pointless... they'll just lower you to there own level and beat you with experience... with this in mind.. I bid you Good Night.. and Good Luck :D

Did I said anything to you? No. so piss off

You know you're digging yourself a deeper grave right? If you're posting here trying to rally individuals to your cause, well there are better ways to address your differences then banning individuals and/or blantly insulting them.

I suppose in the perfect world we'd all be like you Regeneration... but lucky for us we live in a world where everyone has there own opinions and are allowed to share them (at least in Democratic nations they can). The Nazi nation you're building over at NGO should be where you stay. I don't think you're very welcomed anywhere else... honestly.

Because all the other websites welcome differences of opinion so long as they're expressed in a manner that is more respectful then the manner by which you've presented your opinions.

If you come into this board, guns a blazing, insulting members.. you'll be met with the same level of respect.. and as you can see from my post above.. you will in fact be made out to look like a raging maniac.

Also I would like to point this out..

ElMoIsEviL, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I was banned for mearly explaining a possibility of what is occuring between the X-Fi and NF4. I did not post any insults.
As everyone can see NGO is a Nazi website run by young Adolf himself. I will begin to advertise this fact in every major forum for which I am a well respected member. I believe everyone on HardOCP should do the same at least until the website stops this child-like Gestapo behaviour.

I have a Creative X-Fi and an ASUS SLI Deluxe MB. I plugged the card in, loaded the drivers (not all the Creative Bloatware) and have lived happily ever after. I recently updated the driver to the Nov 05 version.
I have enjoyed the X-Fi and it seems to be a nice upgrade from my Audigy1.

I know there have been issues. However I cant say that there have been more than a "normal" level for a nw product.

I do agree that Creative support is non-existant, or at least not at all helpful.
They could also list on their support page what a new driver fixes or updates. (which they have never seem to have done in the past)

That NGO article seems to be just an opinion. I take it as nothing more.

Let’s think about that. You banned her IP address so she has to "go behind your back." You need to learn how to handle criticism without acting live a 5 year old. These last few posts have only harmed your credibility. Having a website means nothing about your hardware knowledge. You can say all you want about how much you know about hardware, but if you don’t have a good reputation then your reviews don’t mean anything. Whether you like it or not, you are acting like a whiny fan_boy. You need to handle situations like this in a much more professional way. Just look at how you handled ElMoIsEviL’s comment. Responding like that just made you look much worse. As the webmaster for that site, you need to work on that if you plan keeping the site growing. You have turned a lot of people off to your site. If anyone mentions your site or uses it as a source, I am not going to believe it because your site is no longer trustworthy. User loyalty/trust is one of the most important things there is. You can easily turn this around by just stopping the whole asshole kid attitude. Either fix your attitude or shut up, you are just digging yourself further into the ground.

Well, I finally got another response from Creative Labs tech support, and its the exact same message they have sent me twice before now. So this is three identical messages from their tech support, only broken up by a message asking me try something that they say I have not tried, which was trying the soundcard in a different system. The only issue with that is my original trouble ticket submitted to them told them I had tried the soundcard in another system and detailed all the components of that system and it worked.

that sucks man. it may be time to ebay the card and go with someting else. i have an extreme music running in an asus a8nsli premium without problems. you dont happen to have a raid or scsi card in your box? if so you many want to pull it and see if the creative card works properly
