CONTROL (Remedy)

the only thing people are getting by boycotting a game launcher is the ability to play a potentially good game earlier...it's 2019, there are multiple game launchers...deal with it...you're not making any grand statement or affecting any publishers bottom line by boycotting the Epic Store...you're just missing out on amazing games such as Metro Exodus and maybe Control and Borderlands 3...Epic's strategy is working, the timed exclusives are selling well and there are going to be many more in the pipeline

Their strategy is working, not only am I saving money, I'm going back through all of my old games and replaying them. Having a blast too.

It's not a grand political statement. It's me deciding how I will play and "own" (not that you can call it that) and categorize my games. Last I checked, it's still my decision how and where my money goes for the things that I want. End of story.

Please stay on topic- there is already a thread for non Control discussion.

This game definitely looks more intriguing than a lot of stuff I’ve seen recently.
At 15 hours I hope it delivers on story. That the story is interesting, tight, well thought through, and is satisfying both in the questions raised and in their conclusions. So few games are doing that. I hope Remedy is still on board with that.

I’m sure the game play and gunplay will be just fine. I’m not worried at all about that part.

Control system requirements updated, are now a lot less demanding

https://controlgame.com/control-requirements-pc/

Minimum:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 / AMD FX 4350
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 / AMD Radeon R9 280X
  • RAM: 8GB
  • OS: Windows 7, 64bit
  • DirectX: DX11
Recommended:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660/1060 / AMD Radeon RX 580
  • Ray-tracing GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060
  • RAM: 16GB
  • OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
  • DirectX: DX12

Max Payne substitute I really liked that game this game has a female lead but she's floating all over the place. Basically Quantum Break and Max Payne had a kid. Then again I seen games that were too gritty and it doesn't have a Human element to it. So this game might go over well....

Whenever she picks up a box or something it sounds like that air sound from Quake one.

Agreed. At the minimum, the setting looks interesting and it looks like there is a transition from normal to abnormal as you progress. Too many games are giant copy/pastes these days based more around collecting things so this looks refreshing. Looks more like an experience than a list of tasks.

I will grab it,when its on STEAM or GOG.
Xbox Game Pass is where it likely shows up sooner, just like The Outer Worlds. I'll get it on there, since despite MS's failings with the windows 10 store, XGP is a separate and legitimate service/store that they're actually trying to improve -- it is Steam competition done right.

Xbox Game Pass is subscription. That is the death of PC gaming as we know it. It isn't competition done right, it is literally the worst thing that can happen to the industry along with streamed games.

Either get it on EGS, wait for Steam or pirate it because all options will be better than pushing gaming off a cliff to its death. It will be a huge loss for gamers and probably a long term loss for developer profits as well.

I agree with the subscription bit, but being on Game Pass means you can purchase a license outright through the Microsoft Store, as well.

https://hardforum.com/threads/hot-free-month-of-pc-game-pass.1985597/

yesterday people were stacking codes and getting 12+ months free...I only got 2 months free but there a lot of games on there that I never bought but was interested in playing- The Surge, Devil May Cry 5, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Ori and the Blind Forest, Gears 4, Gears 5 will be available on release day etc...great deal for free...but even the normal $5 monthly price seems like a great deal

my first time using Game Pass and it's not bad at all...better then MS Store but not as good as Steam etc because you can't access the game folder to use mods or even something like ReShade

You can, you just need to take ownership of the game folder once you find out where it is, which is not always easy as they often use internal names for the game along with some sort of hash code in the folder name.

Control- PS4 Gameplay

the game looks good but not amazing...seems like it'll be really fun for awhile and then feel repetitive...being confined to that 1 building is also disappointing...

It may be one building but it has more diversity in level design than most open world games. As long as it doesn't become grindy and isn't stupidly long it shouldn't become too repetitive. Seems like it will be around 15-20 hours if past Remedy games are any indication.

But this looks like a mix of Alan Wake/typical 3rd person shooters and Portal with a narrative.

game comes out this week...I'm hearing the ray-tracing implementation is really good, probably the best yet even besting Metro Exodus...I'm thinking about picking it up but need to see some reviews, the office building setting looks like it can get old quick without a change in scenery

someone on another forum who finished the game said that it took him around 8-10 hours for the main campaign with a little bit of side quests

Yep, story driven games just need to be played and experienced without sweating the surface impressions. This developer knows what they're doing, and you can't really tell how epic the game was overall until you've finished it.

The Tom Hardy movie "Locke" comes to mind here. On the surface, it's a guy driving in a car for the entire movie, making phonecalls. That's literally it. And it's unsurprisingly got a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes because it sucks you in. Good story transcends setting.

I have yet to play Youngblood waiting on RTX Patch.
Control watched Digital Foundry look at it 2 months ago and was hyped, watched some twitch stuff ,hype is gone.

I enjoyed Quantum Break and this game should better with the destruction and RTX,hurry up tomorrow and get here already.

For those who do not know
if you buy these games you need to have RTX card installed to redeem codes

Control PC review: an entrancing Lynchian fever dream

the way it goes about revealing its story and presenting you with its world – feels so confident, so artistic without losing its pacing or narrative weight, that you’re simply taken to another place: The Agency. Where unseen voices guide you, and an unseen force wreaks havoc.

What a beautiful game. Not only does it have a wonderful habit of using light to paint a picture, like a Hollywood cinematographer, Control also pulls off more experimental feats of superimposing images over one another and marrying them to otherworldly soundscapes, all while you’re doing something otherwise prosaic like walking along a corridor.

Unlike Remedy’s previous linear shooters, Control adopts a checkpoint system similar to the bonfires in Dark Souls, which must be cleansed of Hiss presence before you can save your game and upgrade your character...

Review: Control (Destructoid)

Control is Remedy Entertainment's magnum opus as it's the first time the studio has truly found the perfect balance between action and narrative...Control is a weird, enigmatic, perplexing masterpiece...it's also Remedy's most well-rounded work yet...

CONTROL PC Performance Explored – All In On RTX

Control is going to be a game that really puts the hurt on previous generations of graphics cards whether that be Pascal or GCN based cards...it also continues the trend of showing the strengths of Turing over Pascal and further separating the architectures more than what was seen when Turing first launched

Turing isn’t the only one to see a breakaway here, the RDNA based Navi cards from AMD, while suffering on the 1% and .1% lows compared to their competition, prove to be leagues faster than even the Vega based cards with less on board stream processors...

Lot's of reviews, does this mean this game is released?

It's looking like a nice freebie for some people that get it with their NVidia cards (Wolf: Youngblood looks kind of mediocre).
