COD4 OWNS!

Whoa whoa wait a minute, COD was never about Rainbow Six type gameplay, what were you expecting?!

You might not have noticed, but the game absolutely does this. The higher the difficulty level you play, the more it becomes apparent. The choke points are the most obvious parts that you can see that gameplay mechanic at work.

Yeah pissed me off quite a bit.

I completely agree. I'm an old Rainbow Six player so I hold modern shooters to that level. Perhaps that is unfair, but I can't get around it. The guns lack weight behind them and I hate the respawning of enemies. I feel as if I have to charge a point in order stop the respawning and progress the level rather than eliminate all of the targets. I felt the same way about COD2. And is is just me, or are there only three different skins for the bad guys? It seems like there is an army of clones with RPGs on their backs.

thats exactly how the demo was. every 3rd or 4th guy you shot had an RPG it seemed like. i thought it was supposed to be a terrorist force, not a vastly equipped army. lol

i thought CoD2 was much better with that issue though. usually when you cleared out an area, it was clear. you didn't have to rush the "enemy spawns" to keep it clear.

you're right. if you want Rainbow Six, thats what you need to get. this is more of a mainstream shooter. GRAW2 is good if you like that stuff though. i enjoyed the demo and was thinkin about pickin it up.

Yes, this game is really about charging points, once you realize that you can have fun with it. It's like oldtime warfare, a battle of attrition. You try to weaken or wear away the enemy as much as possible as it respawns with your attack or tactics so that you are able to to charge the top and gain a few feet.

I'm nearing the end on Hardened difficulty level (second hardest), and the later levels are quite challenging. I've never used so many nades in a short period of time ... it gets frantic.

Yeah pissed me off quite a bit.

I'll admit I was a little bummed when I caught them resorting to the same ol' same ol' when it comes to generating enemies. CoD games have always relied on that type of nonending enemy spawn tho, so I just kind of chalk it up to being "Call of Duty" and thats how they do things.

On Veteran, it's freaking ridiculous the amount of enemies that the game pumps out.

Oh man, that should be crazy... I'm playing on Hardened right now.

When the game spawns a continuous wave of 8 enemies at you it gets annoying...
They are too aware of you and lob grenades like crazy idiots. I swear the demo on the Hardest setting was easier.

And heartwarming when they pick them up and throw them back at you.

Lol. What pisses me off the worst is when you sneak around and noone could possibly see where you are, but as soon as you edge out around a corner all the enemies turn to face you.

Thats always fun.

I just unlocked the Desert Eagle and boy is it awsome. I like the extra added bling to it :D.

Yup, most definitely. And for me personally, it ruins *most* of this game's experience. It is such a lame pathetic game mechanic that should have died long ago, but the CoD series continues to bring it back for some reason. It just wreaks of laziness. Instead of making a solid AI to make the game challenging? They just flood you with brainless zombies with "Magic" Manning quarterback'd grenades right on your lap.

What makes it a lot worse, is the fact the game's presentation and "encounters" are very impressive and exciting. The flooding of enemies just really breaks the realism for me.

A funny example of this, is on the one level where there is a bus across from you at one point, full of enemies, apparently there for when I get a little closer. Bunch of snipers laying around, so I sat there headshotting all of them one by one by one, while they just sat there, because I wasn't close enough to them for them to do their thing? It was pretty dumb. The second I'd pop one in the head, another one would run right up into the bus and take his spot, hunch over, and wait to be killed as well. Gee, exciting.

Aside from that... I semi-enjoy this game. I have not tried multiplayer yet, but another "realism" shooter loaded with MMOrific features (perks = bezerker rage rank 2!) to sheepishly draw in the MMO zombie hordes is a big turn off already. =(

^Agreed w/ SP comments

The presentation in SP is very well done, but the gameplay itself is subpar at best. The formula was great when COD came out 4 years ago, but we really should be past that by now.

If it was only that easy. In my opinion there hasn't been a true Rainbow Six since Raven Shield, and I do still play that. Modern tactical gaming is all but disappeared and only comes up as some game play mechanic added on to an action shooter (Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW, etc). So, if I had an option to play a tactical game I would. I do have some hope for Operation Flashpoint 2, but that is a long way off still.

On top of that, I just can't help it. I love Rainbow Six and I compare modern shooters to it. Like I said before, it's probably not fair but that is how I see it. I can appreciate how polished the story is in CoD4 and I think its a good game. Just not a 10/10.

I dont see any of these options do you guys? and whats HUD?

Team Hardcore - Hardcore Team Deathmatch and Search and Destroy. Limited HUD, extra bullet damage, friendly fire on.
Old School - Old School TDM and FFA. No classes. Weapons are pickups, health is increased, and jumps are higher.
Oldcore - Old School pick-ups and jumping. Hardcore limited HUD and extra bullet damage. TDM.
Ground War - Big team games-TDM and Domination.

HUD = Heads Up display. For COD that means crosshairs, health/armor stat bars, remaining ammo, etc. I believe some of the hardcore modes allow you to play with no crosshair but I could be wrong.

QFT

What do you go by in RvS?

I can only join games with 0 players in them.
If I pick a game with other players in it it times out.

Any of you guys have a clue as to how to back up your rank and stats in the event you need to format? Do you just backup the /players/profile/playername folders? I'm getting on up there and I'd hate to lose my ranking. I <3 the m14. I think it was dumb not to have your name and player stats server side.

I did see that towards the end, on the silo mission. I just saw it as being the same as in MoH:A, a device to make you progress rather than sit back and snipe people. I tend to play games like I mean it, so I get stuck in, so I didn't really see any of the respawning enemy stuff, since I reached the trigger point quite quickly.

This seems to happen to everyone. I'll only be able to connect to a game after my connection failing on at least ten different servers. Persist, innit.

It happens the entire game. You can sit in one spot with your team surrounding a house and pick off guys in the windows for 20 minutes. You can literally kill hundreds of people in a single house if you don't advance.

This reminds me of Goldeneye for the N64!

And yet insane bodies is only 64 :(

i used to do that when i was bored. i'd go to the runway level, get in the tank and go on a rampage with it for a bit, and then go park it where it was in that little gate area and block off the edges. then i wait til a bunch of guys run up to the tank and kill em all...wait and repeat lol. sometimes i'd use grenades, others i'd just use guns or maybe slap some ppl. lol. running em over is always fun too

Played this with 2 8800 gt 's in sli and it was a wet dream. Best 50 dollars I have spent in a long time.

The first game i played to the end in a long long time. I had a great time. The c130 weapons play was worth the money alone.

Alright, the opening was the coolest thing ever. You finish the ship mission and are greeted with "Infinity Ward Presents..." Not the biggest deal, but it's such a nice, cinematic touch.

Then you take that looong car ride as the intro credits roll. How awesome is that? I love it. :D

This video game just made me legitimately sad. I was like "Aw... man. shit."

+1 to infinity ward for being able to tug my heart strings.

It was like a kick in the balls.

Anyway, carry on.

I hate the car ride! My eyes keep drifting to the NON MOVING SPEEDOMETER!!!

Thats funny! I never would have thought to look at that...

While it's fresh on my mind as I'm playing this game, I have to bitch just a little... the whole "grenades from impossible angles, improbable throws. and sometimes out-of-freaking-NOWHERE aspect of the Call of Duty series is maddening.

I seriously just got grenaded outside and the only place the grenade could have possibly come from was the front of the house. I was at the back.

The AI must throw a wicked curveball, or be hitting them at me with a golf club.

Wicked slice on those guys.

If you liked that go watch the "wanted" movie trailer :D.

Yeah, but as I said, I never noticed it because I play it like I mean it, getting stuck in - so I didn't sit in one spot.

Sound sucks big time.
No EAX or anything else..
NO positioning I guess everyone uses USB headphones now.

POOR

Someone please help me out here. Im in the second mission (I think) and there's a stuck M1 and RPG's on the roof. They're asking me to plant the IR beacon and I DONT HAVE ONE! I cant find it either. I keep trying the "use" key and it aint working. Im at my wits end here.

Follow the gold circle on the compass. That will lead you to the spot. You'll see a glowing gold silhouette where you plant the beacon.

When you get there, it'll tell you to press F to plant the beacon. Do so. You don't have to equip it or anything.

I just picked up the game this weekend, at BB for $39, price match ftw!

This game is friggen awesome! Opening cinematics, wow, very cool. Runs like butta on oc'd 8800GTS non-sli on 24" LCD at 1920x1200.

Graphics are wicked, oh and running vista x64.

Sweet a$$ game!

7.1 surround, omg.. instense action!!
