Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

I played it for 3 hours last night and its like borderlands 2 with the additional gravity effects, an oxygen mechanic and new characters and abilities. I enjoyed it and I'll probably chip away at it like I did borderlands 2 because I enjoy the humor and the universe. I made a gladiator and got around level 6 primarily with melee, I also tried out claptrap for 5 levels and his skill trees are a little abnormal - in a good way, I tried Nisha and her ability so far seems to destroy mobs extremely quickly, I was least interested in Wilhelm and I didn't play him too much.

Same. I think I played for a total 5-6 hours yesterday before having to tear myself away. What's comedy is I had been counting the *days* for The Evil Within to unlock, and when it did I couldn't tear myself away from Borderlands. I played Nisha, Athena and Wilhelm each to about level 6 or 7 just to get a feel for their skill trees, and liked Athena the best because of her shield so continued playing as her. Besides the tanking ability the shield gives you, I just dig the shield. I'll play Claptrap last (if ever) because he was already borderline Jar Jar Binks in this series and being a playable character now, meh. Plus his action skill is randomized.

One big difference from BL2 is your playable character has a voice now during dialog with NPC's; in BL2 you were just kind of a silent witness. And the dialog is different for each playable character, and for that reason alone its probably worth replays as each character. Example, Athena is kind of all business, and Nisha is way more catty. *spoiler* At one point Moxxi makes you promise something. Athena just responds "I.. promise", but Nisha says "I promise not to tell anyone you're a clown faced slut that's now a .... " I forgot the rest of that line but it was gold.

I thought the floaty, zero-g jumping around in outdoor areas would be cheesy after I first saw it in gameplay videos. But turns out it's fun. I thought the new oxygen meter, and having to maintain a level of it would be annoying. Its not. I can't really think of anything I don't like, and I was pretty glass-half-empty about this title, thinking it was "just a BL2 mod". But they hooked me again and I'm probably in for the season pass. And co-op is a blast as always, a hallmark of this series.

The reason I would buy this is for the coop ability. I love playing this game with friends. I actually really liked BL2. I didn't like BL1 for some reason.

I'll probably buy this as well for me and my brother so we could play. We used to trade all kinds of weapons in the game.

I liked the Eurogamer reviews' final line--- "Too big for DLC yet not different enough for a sequel, think of it as a familiar snack served up too soon after an enormous buffet"

That shield is badass, Im eager to see how the rest of the Athenas skill tree plays out. Often times equipping it and running in to swing the sword before launching it for a one hit kill is so satisfying.

As for Nisha, I can't recall playing a character that uses a whip, I'm a little more interested in how her melee tree works out.

Except TPS isn't snack size, and "too soon" would depend on when you stopped playing BL2, which is already 2 years old. I stopped playing BL2 after Assault on Dragon's Keep (the final season pass DLC) came out.

So playing TPS now with the familiar BL2 elements and gunplay but new maps/campaign/characters actually feels fresh again. Ultimately, this game is more Borderlands for the people that can't get enough Borderlands.

So what's the verdict on this? I'm still on vacation and itching for an FPS game. Is this worth $60.00?

Got up to level 6 with Athena seems pretty decent so far. Is anyone using DSR? What resolution can you push? I was playing at 4k with Max everything (ultra Physx,No FXAA) but I was getting some drops in the 40s in heavy combat so I went back to 2880x1620 and stays locked at 60fps.

If I were you I would've backed off the PhysX rather than backing off the res. Put it back up to 4K and drop PhysX to low and see if drops still happen. Then increase PhysX a step at a time until it drops again. I know in BL2 the high PhysX setting would drop your FPS during intense fights with lots of crap flying everywhere, and the differences between the various PhysX levels are hard to tell apart in practice.

Exactly right. It doesn't do anything wrong. Adds few a neat wrinkles of its own. Playing on the moon is fun.

The story is flashback of sorts. Athena is being questioned after the events of part 2 and her story is what you are playing here so in that sense there's a progression of sorts that I'm sure will contribute something to the eventual part 3.

How to remove the black lines from Borderlands:TPS
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BorderlandsPreSequel\WillowGame\Config\DefaultEngine.ini
Change:
DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.WillowScenePostProcess
to
DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.RyanScenePostProcess
Haven't tried it but I'm betting CinematicScenePostProcess is still a valid value also.
You can also disable the startup movies in this file by adding a ; before each line of the StartupMovies within the [FullScreenMovie] section also, such as:
+StartupMovies=2K_logo
becomes
;+StartupMovies=2K_logo
Happy vault hunting!

Edit: no idea why, but there are a bunch of spaces that appear in this text that are not actually in it. Should be obvious which ones to take out though once you open the file.

I never understood removing the black outline in the Borderlands games...it's part of the art style and charm of the series. Gives it that comicbook look. To each his own I guess.

I'd find one of the discounts deals going on. Nvidia codes are as low as $30 on the forums here and retail codes as low as $45 at varying online stores.

For that price it's worth it in my opinion.

Its worth $45 for sure. Although the "$30 on the forums" with the geforce codes has pretty much dried up, so you're looking at $40 for geforce code off ebay or $45 at GMG

Yeah, I was thinking I could find a Steam key from the Nvidia promo pretty cheap but that never happened. Ticks me off they are using the free Steam keys to sell the old 700-series. I feel like after ponying up almost $400 for a 970 I should have gotten one.

Almost $400? Most 970's are $329. Anyhoo, I imagine Nvidia doesn't feel a need to bundle free game codes with new cards that launch to insane demand and OOS everywhere. Bundle codes are really only a switch they flip when sellthrough starts softening.

In other news, anyone find any legendary gear yet? I have yet to find my first purple, but admittedly haven't had time to play since launch night.

There are a number of reasons. But we'll just call it personal preference. You don't loose the comicbook look.

I will prolly buy it when the price is chopped down.

Hit me up when you do I wouldn't mind picking this up cheap if I have someone to co-op with Borderlands is pretty unplayable on solo for me so I'm in no hurry. I could really give or take on this series.

Moderate Borderlands fan but this couldn't keep my attention for more than a few minutes.

So you paid 50 or 60 bucks to bail only after a few minutes? I reckon you didn't touch co-op either then.

I downloaded a demo. Co-op in borderlands has never interested me outside of the first iteration.

I downloaded a demo..

how dare you
how+dare+you!.gif

That was my question. At first I was filled with a desire to go find this mystical "demo". Then I thought, "Wait... a demo for a PC game in 2014? It's gotta be fake."

Turns out it's not real.

I think it's more of a very creative interpenetration of the word demo...

yeah there's a demo for this. its called borderlands 1 & 2. there is nothing substantially different about this one

This game is shit. I loved borderlands 2. Several bugs on quests, mission car jumps that leave you dead everytime. Missions that are drawn out and boring. Having two claptraps on a team is a beating. If your on the fence... walk away

You talking about Claptrap being overpowered? I've been told that he is OP.

I can't see Borderlands fans that are in the mood being disappointed overallwith this based on what I've played so far.

I have not encountered bugs or glitches... yet.

Someone made a point earlier in the thread about how back in the late 90s or so something along these lines would be considered a robust expansion pack and I think that's a fair assessment overall.

I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it unless you are just a die hard Borderlands junkie that can never get enough no matter what.

How are the death animations? in B2 they nerfed the animations and made them more pg.

Not liking it.

There are hundreds of diablo clones out there. What made Borderlands unique are characters, stories and environments. The actions and loot grindings are there. Rest of them are not. I wouldn't call it a d3 tier flop, but not worth 60.

This game is ripe with bugs. I'm getting constant "out of video memory" errors and weird quest bugs and the performance is god awful. It runs like a pig but its the same fucking engine...

Overall as a big Borderlands fan I'm disappointed. I'm thinking of getting a refund through Steam. This is a very lackluster addition to the franchise.

Even its charm and co op can't really save it at this point..

I've got 18 hours into the game and I love it. Haven't ran into any types of bugs as of yet. The second boss was a pain in the ass to beat but well worth the effort. Any plans I had for Saturday are going to be tossed-out the window in favor of playing B:pS. :D

I was playing it yesterday and it crashed on me. Apparantly if you have crossfire enabled, it could cause issues. AMD's latest drivers have a ton of issues so I didn't use the latest. I have yet to try the beta though. I really don't understand why it could be using a crossfire profile if one isn't present.

I'll definitely be grabbing this when it hits "Expansion Pack" level pricing. I love Borederlands, and BL2, and I know I will enjoy this. However, it doesn't seem like it could contain $60 worth of BL content to me. Plus I have a few other things to play right now anyway. Looking forward to playing this eventually though.
