BenQ GW2x50(HM) thread.

75Hz on a AMVA is pretty much useless, since AMA/overdrive only works right at 60Hz, go a Hz above it and the native response time kicks, in AMVA panels, that means 15ms. at 75Hz the panel will be refreshing faster than pixels can respond so the ghosting will be massive.
Any i will borrow my wifes BL2400BT, test if it can do 75Hz over displayportand do a youtube vidoe of ghosting.

Just got my GW2750HM. Quality is amazing. Great blacks! Didn't need much calibration.

Highly recommended!

Set it to sRGB and you might not have to calibrate it. Mine was fine on that setting.

And due to BenQ's epic fail, they "forgot" to send me a shipping label. Due to this, I still own mine despite getting my money back from the chargeback. Unsure at this point what I'm going to do with it. It's currently in the attic of my house in Louisiana, and I'm currently in the new house in Washington. I'll get it with the household goods move around New Years.

In the meantime, if anyone near either Shreveport or Seattle wants it, send me a PM offer and we'll work something out. Otherwise I might just due a dual-monitor setup.

Pretty obvious which monitor is better. And the BenQ is over $100 cheaper!

I tried two different units of the ASUS thinking the light bleed was a fluke on the first try, but it wasn't.

hehe lucky man. You must know my sister. She got an Elonex Exentia XP media centre PC that way, worth in 2006 £2000 ( 2000 uk pounds ).She earnt it though with all the trouble she had, though in her case much was self made ( She gave it to me, I use it now and then and it has been a real pussy cat)

Very nice pics. Is the backlight turned on in the BenQ? I know some monitors just turn off the backlight when display a black image.

I am looking for a large monitor with good blacks and suitable for watching movies in the dark so I guess the GW2750HM would be a good choice? When I watch movies in the dark on my current TN monitor the black bars in the movie are not really black. I don't really plan to game much on it.

Also I wonder if GW2760HM will be available (in the UK) before Xmas. I am willing to wait for it because it has a nicer bezel and better speakers but I don't want to wait too long and have xmas postal issues..

Yes, that picture is with the brightness and contrast on the GW2750 set both at 50. The BenQ doesn't cheat and turn off the backlight.

I am quite happy with the BenQ. Definitely learned my lession to avoid IPS panels.

I haven't heard of the GW2760HM until you mentioned it and did a quick look up on it and it has the same specs, but just a carbon fibre looking pattern. Not something I would care for.

It has a thinner bezel and overall nicer casing, plus 2x2w instead of 2x1.

Minor differences but the same price.

Again nothing I would care for, the specs are exactly the same in terms of panel quality and thats the most important aspect for me when buying a monitor.

Ah yeah but if were in my position, having not bought one yet, and there was a chance you could get either one for the exactly same price, obviously you'd go for the slightly better one.

That's all im saying, im just wondering if anybody has heard if the GW2760HM will be in stock before xmas.

Looks like they only announced it this month so probably won't be available till the new year

I'd go with the 2750hm rather than wait on the 2760. This screams of "reduced bill of materials" to increase profit margins. All I'm seeing is that the 2760 has a smaller bezel, and weaker speakers. The 2750 has 2x2W, while the 2760 has 2x1W.

Even if you're not going to use the built in speakers, I'm not seeing any increases on this monitor, only reductions.

well even the BenQ shows some light thru in a complete dark room - any "black" bars will not be 100% black; the BenQ is better than the alternatives. But none of the unevenness as in the pictures of the ASUS VG27AH. If you buy the BenQ hoping that the bars will be 100% black you will be disappointed. What is important is that the contrast in the shadows of dark scenes is believable even in a dark room. I share your preoccupation with films in dark rooms. I have the 24" model.

Thanks, that is interesting food for thought.

BatJoe's picture of the BenQ above looks very good and the ASUS VG27AH looks pretty bad so if it is an accurate representation of affordable AMVA vs IPS panels in a dark room then I definitely will prefer the BenQ. It looks a lot better than what I have currently anyway.

You must remember that it is a picture taken with a certain exposure. If the exposure was long enough the BenQ would show an even tone of any B/W you want The evenness aspect is revealed by BatJoes pic accurately, but not the absolute black. My 24" is very even like his 27". My only problem, if you read my recent above posts, I have found a red motion blurr that affects eg skin tones against dark backgrounds. It mainly affects dark scenes ( which otherwise the BenQ is superb at handling) . Cant calibrate it away, can be quite bright & is quite annoying, as saturation is unconnected to the scene. I have sent mine back to see what BenQ says. Like you my main use is for tv/films so motion issues are really important. I will be very sad if nothing can be done about it as the BenQ was the only option that met my requirements, at a price I could afford.

Not sure if someone already posted links from this Czech site that does excellent monitor reviews. Just look at these:

If you scroll down to the response time chart you can see a nice breakdown of response times. They are quite slow at rise times from black tones. Chart doesent say anything about differences in color components though.

If its not a problem with your unit only then you can always hope that 1. They've fixed this problem in GW2460 and 2. They'll send you one of those in return. :)

Both of my pics were taken at the same exposure and fstop on my Canon DSLR.

Now the blacks in person on the BenQ are not as pure black but are the best I've personally seen.

I agree as good as I have seen also. Just that some may think from the pics they are dead black in rl.

Ok so an update bought the GW2450GM and after getting rid of my Samsung TN display i was expecting better viewing angles... better colors at the price of speed well the BenQ disappointed. The viewing angles are better but the color shift is horrid :(

The response rate is good no lag in screen change but colors are all over the place when seen at an angle >10 "tftcentral profile used"

Returning it tomorrow getting either that Toshiba TV 23inch MVA or a Dell U2312HM

This is a computer monitor... how much of a wide viewing angle does one really need? I don't know about everyone else but I just look straight on with my monitor, not really from the sides.

As for the colors, Samsung monitors always over do colors. Too much for my liking.

You need to calibrate the BenQ a little bit..........

Try these:

Brightness - 50
Contrast - 50
Gamma - 4
Color Temperature - User Mode
Red - 100
Green - 97
Blue - 95
Sharpness - 1
RGB - 0-255

What did you think about the blacks? DId you notice they were deeper than IPS or TN ?

Are you talking about horizontal or vertical angles? Or both?

And is the colorshift noticeable if sitting in your chair, using normal head movement/re-positioning? Just curious if you are talking about viewing the monitor standing next to it, or if it's a problem simply tilting your head slightly.

This is a computer monitor...

Thanks for the values tried them out but the color shift is pretty much still there :( very weird since the Dell S2440L which is also a same panel monitor has better viewing angles maybe the glass idk.

Yes much better than the different shade at every angle TN but not as good as my Sony TV's VA screen.

Both, the Vertical are even more limited. Sitting in front re-positioning my head does not cause much of a problem but when seen close or from a angle the problem crops in. This means if i type as i am doing right now the colors are fine as soon as i recline my lazy boy a little to see family guy, etc the image has a darker shade on the top compared to the bottom.

Ack... that was my main problem with TNs. I lean forward/back or shift in my chair a lot. Simply leaning back would change the top half of a TN screen to a different color.

Strange though, I don't notice that vertical issue with S-PVAs. Unless it's an issue with this specific panel.

I have it next to my sa650, the colors are identical, I cannot tell the difference from one vs the other, only way I can tell is one matte and the other is semi-gloss.

I don't notice the color shift that much, its still day and night compare to any TN panel I own.
IMO, I prefer the MVA over the IPS glow shift.

The font is much nicer on the samsung than the benq though, the benq is too sharp/broken even on the lowest sharpness.
the gw2450 pwm flickers slightly less than the samsung, but neither is usable with any settings lower than 25%.
I would still recommend the sa650 > gw2450 bc the ag sparkles on the gw2450, and none on the sa650, and that the font is just so much better.
If I get around to it I'll photo some for you guys/gals.

guys i'm interested in this model and i've tried to read some pages of this discussion and seems that someone loves it and someone hates it but i can't understand why and i can't read 30 pages of discussion :)
can someone be kind and summing it up a little bit for me, pls

+High static contrast
+Deep Blacks (better than TN/IPS)
+Better color reproduction over standard TN panels
+Great response time for a A-MVA panel
-Response time not as fast as TN panels
-Limited inputs

Other limitations that are subjective would be the design of the monitor itself, which isn't flashly or fancy and the fact it is "only" 1080p.

After an hour long phone call to Benq "Transfered from store" they say i have a defective panel and a techi is coming to change the monitor the day after. They want to keep my money and are very determined to please me lets see what happens.

EDIT: Get this the guy on the other side said some panels are defective because the drying part of the process was too short for that batch of panels.

On the negative side of things, it seems color shift at angles is a big one. And perhaps contrast shift for blacks (which is sort of the same thing, kinda)... where blacks may be darker in the middle of the screen than the sides, even looking straight on.

And that color accuracy may be a problem (green tint), without proper calibration.

Some of those are subjective, which may be why some people love these monitors, while others hate them.

also if you are in the USA dont bother with BenQ anything, ask Medion why......Rubbish distributor and ultimate Warrenty supplier. He had lots of fruitless chats with them.

whats about games like battlefield 3 or call of duty on Benq GW2450HM, someone try it??

Having tested a GW2750HM with a firmware dated March 2012 and another with a firmware dated June 2012, I can confirm reports much earlier in this thread that the AMA feature to help improve response time does work better on later firmwares. Basically you a GW2450HM or GW2750HM that is manufactured June or later.

No issues here (GW2750HM)

i can confirm this is the same problem with Dell S2440L... it is worse than a TN panel. ive covered it in more depth in the dell S series monitor thread..

Well I got my GW2450GM back, which the email from Ebuyer UK said had been repaired after extensive tests lol. Well a look at the factory setting menu told me the story. They had replaced the panel. Trouble is, they replaced it with the same generation/firmware dated panel, so has the same problem. I dont think the tecnicians had even bothered to try out the replacement, as it had zero hours useage, according to the factory menu.

So if you have a GW2450GM with firmware V01/20120309 you probably have the same problem - a red motion related blur when you have eg a skin tone against a dark background, the redness unrelated to the amount of red in the scene, which no amount of calibration will remove. The monitor is ok for general use but as a serious multi media monitor, no , in my opinion. A real shame. I'll probably keep this one for such use for my desktop pc whose monitors needed replacing & look else where for my media centre. But no more BenQ lol

That is not 1000:1 more contrast. Yes colors are better. But contrast is barely.

And here is black grey bars of the TN

dsc0108kn.jpg

Apparently I suck at holding the camera today...

Anyway as you can see the TN has far better horizontal shift then the GW2450HM A-MVA panel. And yes the GW2450HM's center is darker (higher contrast) the rest of the screen looks almost exactly like the TN. Stand in front of the GW2450HM where ever you move your head the high contrast follows.

Yes I will.

The BenQ GW2450HM is not semi-glossy. It is medium matte. Very similar to my Samsung 244T.

These show them side by side and the difference in coating
