BenQ GW2x50(HM) thread.

after equalising brightness of sRGB - yes Eco seems more saturated/vibrant that sRGB. I think thats the least of your worries. I am surprised only one person has commented on my report that in some circumstances you get a red motion blurr. I know it isnt an isolated incident as I returned mine and the new one I received has the same problem. But maybe a little less so. I note the AMA adjustment seems to be different.

Thanks!
That is disappointing then, as my monitor has worse colors than the $130 cheapo TN I had, even under "Eco." I was hoping the firmware was messed up.
My RMA was approved and I can send it back anyways. I think I'll send it back for a refund and cough up the restocking fee.

Hmm, is it possible for a panel to have all-around very unsaturated and dull colors? Everyone else says the colors are oversaturated, but compared to my legion of TNs, it's dull as heck.

This is a new model GW2760HS

Only GW2760HS specifically advertises no PWM so it is reasonable to assume that is the only one you can be sure has no PWM. Surely if the other ones had it they would mention it as a feature also.

They also talk about "Color Shift-free Technology" which they don't mention on any of the other 2x60 series that I can see. So maybe this uses a different panel that reduces the off-centre contrast shift at the expense of worse contrast ratio

GW2460HM doesn't have PWM confirmed by a member few pages back.

If you look at the spec page for the x60 they are now advertising the contrast ratio as only 3000:1.

The x50 were advertised at 5000:1.

3000:1 only for the GW2760HS model.

GW2x60HM have 5000:1.

Yep. Two panels I havent seen before rated at 3000:1 .

No difference between them in those specs. Seems that AUO is moving fast with improvements these days. Monitor releases cant keep up with the pace!

PWM free looks to be a reality. Finally. I'm not celebrating until we have solid reviews or I test one myself, though. :) Unfortunately these new variants made it a bit more confusing as which model to get. And they seem to be fairly far from becoming available in decent stores around here.

As for PWM freedom in all 60-seires: Perhaps. They way they mass-produce PCBs and the components they'll probably gonna reuse it elsewhere. But there might be a lottery in the beginning. GW2760HS will have more of a 'guarantee' since its officially specified as a feature which would give grounds for RMA if it does have PWM-flicker.

GW2460HM is the best monitor I've ever had. VAs truly shine this time. PWM? NONE! colors are phenomenal, white is white (IPS white is yellow actually by default). Bad pixels? zero! Backlight bleed? none.

Could be my monitor though, but I don't think so because got 3 of them (convinced 2 friends of mine after a small exhibition) with the exact same results .They are so cheap 160€ for a 24'' monitor of this image quality???

I'd never though that I would sell my catleap yamakasi for this baby. Go get them boys.

sounds so good, makes waiting for 27" models to be in stock that much harder.

btw, could you list which refresh rates and resolutions does it support (for gaming consoles and movie watching). does it do 50hz and 24hz? what about interlaced resolution for SD content?.

thanks.

well yours must be a dud as all my Tn monitors are dull by comparison. The reds are particulary striking on the GW2450. Ofcourse you have compare like for like pictures. Dull colours will be dull. Did you try a reset ? You did a side by side comparison, rather than memory? I use the standard setting anyway not eco or sRGB, and adjust the separate colours, mainly reducing the green by a bit. I do use a gamma of 3, brightness 26 contrast 50

Yeah, it's next to both my 2008 iMac (TN, 6-bit, I think) and some super cheapo Soyo monitor. The BenQ and Soyo were hooked up to my windows box and iMac, same results. Same desktop background.
Well, I just sent it back for RMA under defect... will probably get it back after the holidays, sadly.
I've tried adjusting it many many times, using TFTCentral settings, different inputs, and resetting it a bunch of times. I just didn't think that a defect could make the entire screen have bad colors. If I viewed an image of pure colors though, the benq won. It's as if the saturation or gamma curve was skewed to hell.

Anyways, thanks for the help. I'm a bit confident that I'll get a good monitor back for New Years. I hope so. If this is a defect, well... BenQ has serious quality control issues. I'll post back to confirm or not when the replacement arrives.

Thanks!

I should have added there isnt much in it between the two. Either would be acceptable

Did you also reset the Tn monitors back to default?

Did it go very bright? Can only think that either the backlight faulty or a very low gamma set.

Hmm, it was fairly bright. I reset everything, tried different OSes, recalibrated all my monitors (by sight, using lagom and OS X's pretty good calibrator)...

Well, I am inclined to believe that it was a faulty monitor now, since everyone is saying the colors are great. The best colors I've seen were on my Galaxy S3, far better than my TNs, so it's not as if the TNs were really good. I HOPE I had a bad unit, and I'll let everyone know if that is so. BenQ does have quality control issues...

Or maybe all my other monitors were the best damn deals ever.

You probably have your S3 on Standard display setting, which has colors waaaay over saturated. It does look nice, but these colors aren't very accurate and should not be compared to monitors. Set your S3 to Natural display setting for more accurate color mode.

Also, it's impossible that TN colors look better than this Benq VA, it goes against every review out there saying otherwise.

Hi!
Is there a definitive set of display settings that work the best?
I have just ordered a GW2750HM 27"
I am working through the 33 pages of the forum but wondering what's best to set it at. Will be used 95% of the time for gaming

I have ordered my gw2750hm from overclockers in the uk. Below is the link.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-062-BQ&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

The spec is as lower brightness and only 2x1w speakers.
I'm wondering if this is a 2760 in disguise or am I missing something?

Sorry, don't think this is a 2760. Manufacturers Code: 9H.L8NLB.QBE which means it's a GW2750HM.

2760 code is 9H.L9LLA.TBE and it's scheduled to arrive to EU stores mid January.

I have emailed the company to ask is it a typo or not. It should arrive tomorrow anyway so will update here as and when. Hopefully I get a good one with a later firmware.

There is also a BenQ GW2750HE, 27" (9H.L8NLB.FBE). Those specs match that one better. Newer panel with less LEDs. 'E' probably stands for Energy. Less bright and less speaker power, means less power consumption. Less bright also means less eye-strain from PWM effects and enables you to dim backlight to lower levels.

you can try using settings and ICC profile found here http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_gw2750hm.htm

My monitor arrived today and it was manufactured August 2012, with june firmware so this is one of the better ones?
I set all the settings as described here but then tried to install the icc profiles and not sure if they worked? Are the icc profiles just the contrast/gamma/brightness settings or something else? I followed the instructions but nothing happened? Am I just been stupid? Also, what was the general consensus for the am settings, high or premium?
Thanks very much.

usually it's very hard to spot a difference between ICC profiles with a naked eye, especially if they are similar. I doubt TFT central's ICC profile for this monitor is much different from the standard Windows sRGB profile, and that's why you don't see any difference. most important calibration usually happens from monitors OSD, not ICC profiles.

My first impressions are very good! I am coming from a Samsung 22" 2232bw though with 1680 resolution so it's a big change!
If I put it on game or movie mode it looks awful, I have it set to the default settings from TFT central and it looks good. Maybe a bit washed out on web pages etc but games look excellent.
Can't quite work out what AMA does, it's set to premium but cannot notice a difference between any setting? Also, what do all the different options do in the "hidden menu"?
Thanks for help everyone.

AMA is overdrive to improve pixel response time (reduces blurriness in motion). You want that on enabled on high or premium.

I cant decide if i am going to RMA it or not. Its working perfectly but i just am unsure about the quality. Games look excellent but general web site browsing is quite poor and i cant seem to get it set up right!

Hey guys I am without a monitor at the moment coming from and Acer 23 inch 5ms TN. I came across the gw2450 on newegg and noticed it was va and have read about all the monitor types and only been around TN panels and its only $150 so very tempting but I am in the us and do a lot of gaming and movie watching . I have read the TFT review but the. Read on here about a few different problems people are having . So would you guys recommend this monitor for my use or would I be better off getting the best 24 inch Asus , Samsung TN panel monitors at a similar price in the 2ms gtg range to hopefully minimize ghosting ? I am ready to order something just can't pull the trigger and get something not usable for me or miss out on much better picture quality than I have ever seen .

I would not get this monitor!
I got mine on Thursday and its getting boxed up to be sent back today! The colours are terrible, website browsing looks awful. I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to drop down to a 24" ans spend a little more in buying either a benq xl2420t, benqxl 2411t or a dell u2412m

There is a lot of variability with these kind of monitors and you can't really use somebody else's settings and expect miracles. How do you have it connected up?

Hello mattycarroll,

Sorry to hear your GW2750 makes "websites look awful". I currently have a dual GW2750HM setup, running off intel GMA 4500MHD, one HDMI and VGA. I don't game so my experience is only from surfing, movies and office applications. For what I do they are good enough. I am coming from dual 2209WA. The only one I can really tell a difference, surprisingly, is hardocp.com. The titles look yellowish on the benq and orangish on the dells, but I guess I visit that website so often the colours are etched in my brain (haha). Do you have examples of websites where the colour is off?

I used TFT central settings as a starting point then ran ezio-test. http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/testsoftware/eizo-monitor-test.html

It's all boxed up now and getting collected tomorrow. I have ordered a dell u2412m instead, hope that is better.

very surprised at this. I would have agreed about games/movies ( it has issues ) but for general desktop is fine. Colours are ok! Maybe you are so used to your old monitor you want the Benq to be the same?

The important fact you mentioned is "$" So I assume you are in USA? Then dont buy anything Benq. A guy here had no end of trouble with RMA with them. Seems like Benq USA are ... not good.

I have the 24", an early one, dated March. It has motion blurr issues for red in certain conditions, that I have mentioned in earlier posts. ie a disproporionate red blurr of red against dark in films. Dont know if they solved it in the later versions. I have learnt to live with mine ( I did RMA and got a slightly better one ) as the effect only in special circumstances & in general very good for watching tv and dvds, and when I got mine was very cheap.
